Am I in pain? Hell yes I am, because do you actually know what this means? Despite of the horrible feeling that you are never wanted, that you bring misfortune? How traumatic must that have been for a small child, that he doesn't want to talk at all.
But the father is also to be pitied because he himself was stuck in his superstitions, which at the moment were more important than the love to his wife. Only Akeno-san's death opened his eyes, because he also loved his son in a way, but he was broken (as many characters).
In a way Yoriichi is in one point very much like his fathers son, if it is about the love of their life. They can't fall in love again and can't remarry. Choosing solitude over everything. How pure must his love for Uta have been? How hurt must he have been if he was not able to move for 10 days away from her corpse. Not drinking or eating anything. What strain must that be on his body and soul. (I am still crying everytime when I read chapter 186)
But he was also healing in a way. Especially after 2 years when he went to Sumiyoshi and opened up, talking about everything that had happened to him. And still, nobody was able to fill the emptiness in his heart that Uta's death left behind.

It started as a reverse AU in which Giyuu has Yoriichi's role (because of the parallels between them + my Sengoku era Giyuu drawing)...
but it turned into a sabigiyuu au when i realized Sabito would be Giyuu's 'Uta' (╥﹏╥)

— AU FIC WITH NEXT GENERATION HASHIRAS —
I like to think all the mistresses of the Butterfly estate had a side chick hashira, with whom they had unparalleled natural chemistry.
Like Kanae had Sanemi, with whom she was kind of friends with and their bond was quite a bit strong.
Then Shinobu had Giyuu, with her teasing him about not having friends and being the only one who tried to talk to him.
Then Kanao and Tanjiro. (In my AU where they are the next generation hashiras)
And Aoi and Inosuke. (In my AU where she rejioned the demon slayers and becomes the next mistress of the estate after shinobu)
And maybe one of the caterpillar girls (most probably Kiyo) and Sengoku. (In my AU where he becomes the next flame breather)
It is kind of a tradition at this point.

AHAHA I MADE IT
3 DAYS IN A ROW 4K+ WORDS EACH CHAPTER BB WO!
Chapter 9: Sickness through Young and Old
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Chapter 10: Third Brother
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Chapter 11: Within the Water
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Because all the chapters go through almost the same arc! Let us have the three chapters be talked in one post.
-Let's talk about the first case: Sickness!
Because what literary story set in medieval Japan does not have a tale of sickness and good ol' unknown disease that will only get worse by time~
"Wait wasn't Tanjuro also sic—"
"Shhhhh sh sh shsh....We are gonna cross that river soon... soon."
But really, it seems that while looking through some good old diseases that have plagued Japan in feudal times, I have come across the fact that they also had those kinds of "Victorian era wailing for its last breath" kind of tropes there and I was like "how. Hoho.
Cool story I found was that of Minamoto no Tametomo fighting the smallpox demon, so maybe I'll make a reference to it some day... prob.
Is the disease Yushiro has a real one?
Yes....and no. Basically it's going to be ambiguous as to what it is, especially for the effects that it will come to play later, and most importantly, where the cure is found.
And now that we are talking about Yushiro...
The Idea of the Koucho's having the head being a woman actually was inspired by an actual onna bugeisha in the sengoku period: Tachibana Ginchiyo(1569-1602)
And out of all of the other women Castellans[i.e appointed women officials to lead a castle or command] Tachibana stood out to me due to the fact that her name may have meant (depending on the source) "to listen to the words of a discreet person".
Well, did she listen? did she not? Well the record of the family certainly said that she had the bravery of her father, the titled "Lightning God", and oh yeah, stepped out to become the heiress of the clan despite the her father's retainers trying to convince him to choose another family member from an extended branch as his heir.
And did I forget to say she saw through Toyotomi Hideyoshi's attempt of assault and chose to arm her and her maids with naginatas (and arquebuses too some sources say) while paying him a visit, and he wasn't able to do anything [though the account may be false, I took some ★★inspiration★★ of that too]
She also had an army of women she trained :).
I mean. To be honest there where so many other women out there too, Mitsuri, Daki, Kanao, Kanae Tamayo and Nakime's backstories will also have elements to other popular women back in the sengoku era while also mixing in their Canon backstories in the series.
But my favorite backstory drafts right now are: Shinobu, Makomo, Uta and Amane's
Because
Oh
My
God
Female Warrior Monks
Them. Even just thinking about their backstories make my bones chill bro, like the stories are so good I just wanna write it all down but I CaNT—
Yall I love this period so much I can't breathe. So many things bro I'm dying. It literally brings me Illiad levels kinds of HYPE!!.
Also the fact that Shinobu was trained by Himejima who is a monk like– I cannot NOT take this opportunity to make Shinobu a heiress, this without exactly the legitimate rule since she is still just a de facto daimyo as of now... as of now.
Also the fact that Ginchiyo married her childhood friend but in the end they didn't love each other and beared no children... :)))))
Are the other characters also modeled after famous Sengoku people?
Hell yes.
Though not one one specific person, more like the personalities are set from real people, and their backstory too but they are still, ya know. The same kny characters you know off.
The most obvious have already been seen honestly.
With Yoriichi acting out as the Kampaku, already a strong connection to Toyotomi Hidesyoshi.
And the two compelling forces of the story (AND MY FAVORITE CUZ OH GOD THE HISTORY! THEIR STORY! MUZAN ACTUALLY HAS BACKGROUND! KAGAYA TOO HELL YAS!) The Kibutsuji being a close resemblance to Oda Nobunaga and the Ubuyashiki a connection—especially since I said that the last battle was going to die of that from Sekigahara— To Tokugawa Ieyasu.
And our two new members
Akechi Hairo being a reference to Akechi Mitsuhide who betrayed Oda Nobunaga, while Hairo is just, lower moon 2 Hairo. [I don't sincerely have a few fleshed out backstories towards the Lower moons in this story—just like canon lol— but they still do have a bit of significance and relevance in some plots.
For example: The hand demon that we just say in chapter 11 and his Nii-chan.
And also Shinsaburo, 真三郎
真(Truth, same kanji as Makomo) 三(3, hehe) 郎(Young man/Male) who was a inspired by the poet and one of the government's leading generals in Kyushu, Imagawa Ryoshun(1326-1420), due to two things that will be part of Shinsaburo's backstory: His military achievement, and the tutoring of finest Uta poet of the fifteen century.
Moreover.
Poetry.
Damn.
Pretty good IG, if you know Japanese and kanji. I actually plan having those poetry contests[by myself :")] or making some waka during summer break once I start learning Japanese. I don't know if that'll work but It'll be fun.
I'll be like probably canon Iguro, just writing lovesick poems, but instead of Mitsuri it will be about the Maracuya iced mixed Soju[such a good drink it elevated me] and my ghost bunny.
Now.
WAR SHIPS ★v★
Tumblr media Tumblr media
ESPECIALLY THIS BABY GIRL!
LIKE OH MY GOD.
The upgrades, the fact that they put a freaking house over the whole thing. Just imagine how many row men you would need to build that thing. The wall put up on front with the little holes[hazama]! Just look at how cool that is! It really be an entire fortress floating!
Aaaand of course the first I hear of is from Oda Nobunagabuilding them but with iron in 1578....that's metal, hehe ( ˘ ͜ʖ ˘).
But overall the massive construction for these kinds of things, just to fall :"), damn it's like I'm watching the destruction if most castles in sengoku again.
Of course they were all just Atakebune.
Sekibune and the Gozabune (Kobaya) were also other kinds of ships out in the sengoku period. Respectively:
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Of course they are much smaller than the atakebune because the atakebune was meant to be the largest, even had a turret over it (like the watchtower in which... moments happened ~) equipped with various equipment.
Though, due to their size it meant that these kinds of ships wouldn't be used as much [think they were more used to fight off the others in the Korean peninsula or missionaries, which is why the Koreans have their turtle ship and I have to say that man do I love that little ship, alongside admiral Yi who will appear, as someone else tho, for some crossover content in this fic, since I saw Korea and you know me gotta love those crossovers. So their main ships that where mostly used to fight in where the lighter and more comfortable Sekibune and Kobaya ships. There is also more information from a YouTube here, she talks so calmly about the 3 ships so if you wanna more info- there [sadly I had to put Google translations for this one :")]
As for some English vids, there are just Total war Shogun let's plays (":. Good game tho. It actually helped have an idea of what to make me write for these chapters. Alongside the battle of Miyajima which. For some reason. The only thing I could picture clearly. And it bugged me for most of the whole watch. Was.
What about an underwater kiss scene?
So I did that.
Freaking did that.
Time for some accidental cpr–kiss.
Shouldn't have listened to that cpr song. Now look at me. Trynna put a kiss scene there...
At least it went on in a natural matter.
Supposedly in the drafts it was just going to be a normal battle more focused on Sanemi and Giyuu development, seeing how they both act towards one another especially when they come from different ranks of society yet are going to marry the girls of the same household. So that way I can some Sanemi background explained after the battle. I'm still gonna do it tho, but once again, this was going to supposedly be a small small battle.
However this was Giyuu's debut to being a samurai so I was like NO.
And also had no internet so I rolled with another things which was the Miyajima Battle.
And oh boy I really expected to just be so few chapters not dragging 3 (4k) long chapters. Hopefully it can stop at two more because now we have Shinsaburo and Sanemi backgrounds to add on. Which.
Oh.
Boi.
That like opens up a whole new cast directly.
And because it's also the Giyuu~ Debout~ to a Samurai~
You get what this means no?
It will soon be time for the vows~~~~
Hehehehehhehehehe

Something I was kind of thinking about was due to how Karai says in the episode 'Shreddy or Not' that she was sealed away with the Shredder around 500 years ago it is possible that Karai was possibly from the Sengoku Period of Japan which kind of made me think about how in Kimetsu no Yaiba, Yoriichi was from the Sengoku era as well, which kind of made me think that in a Demon Slayer Rise crossover Karai & Yoriichi could have possibly been around at the same time as each other.

Summary:
"...and I can't remember my wife's or children's faces..." —Kokushibō Taishō era, 1915. A lonely young woman's life changes after a strange encounter where the surface of a hidden world is revealed. A story of contrasts.
Tumblr media
You foolish girl...
You run shaking fingers over your dry lips, feeling a sear that rushes through your veins like hot, poisoned wine.
It was not supposed to happen this way, and maybe it was indeed all your fault. You’d been weak, tried to show him you didn’t care what he was or what form he took, no matter how divorced from reality it appeared. You only wanted to show him that... that you wanted.
And what precisely did you want? You gaze up at the sky, where the night is cloudless yet there is no moon or stars: as if they, too, fled the aftermath of his fury.
Once, you said you did not fear him, standing like an unmovable pillar before the potent dread and despair that seemed to consume the living breath of everything in his presence. You didn’t know better, and it was easier that way.
“We should never have crossed paths,” you tell the nothingness outside. You wish he could hear it. Then you’d have your dignity back, and maybe he’d be satisfied knowing he was right.
Tumblr media
A spring evening. It was early April, the air drunk on the bloom of cherry blossoms. You were returning from the festival, feeling too warm even in your thin yukata, strands of hair sticking to your temples. It was the herald of a mercilessly hot summer.
Alone, you took the streets towards home, yearning for your refuge after the day’s agitation. You felt safe in your small town and thought nothing of the steps echoing behind: until it was too late.
You offered them whatever money you had, but that was not their intent. Terror paralyzed you, choked you so you couldn’t even yell for aid. You tore at their faces, kicked and thrashed. You’d never known true hatred, but as you cried in despair you wished the grizzliest death upon them.
“How pitiful.”
Words echoing like a hollow wind, words you’ll never forget until your years are spent and the spark of life fades from your body. The grip on your arms froze, and in your own heart fear unending spread like rot.
There was nothing there when you looked, though, only a shadow in the shape of a... man?
“Humans have not changed. You all remain disgusting… and weak.”
His voice was deep. Cold like a winter moon, resonating within you like the shuddering vibrations of an earthquake. A speech strange and antiquated, the tone laced with contempt, and through the blur of tears you couldn’t see his face.
“Even to your kind, preying on others seems to be the norm.”
They... there were two of them, both of which had simply forgotten all about you and turned to run.
You must’ve cried, you must’ve screamed. Your mind couldn’t comprehend what your eyes showed you. You could not even move.
But where two men stood a moment before, now were merely two widening pools of blood, flowing into one another.
The stranger stood there, turned away from you.
You retreated back on your hands and legs, your back hitting the nearest wooden hedge. You tried to speak, but what would you even say? “Will you kill me?”
He looked over his shoulder at you. He had long, shining dark hair, tied back from his face. He wore a kimono and hakama. Was that a blade fastened at his waist? His features were still muddled, or perhaps it was your fear toying with perception but try as you did, you couldn’t discern them.
The stranger—the murderer—turned back ahead, saying nothing.
For a mere moment the paralysis in your limbs eased, and you took the chance: you up and ran, as fast as your legs could take you, never looking back.
Tumblr media
You sit alone on your bench, wiping your forehead. An early summer evening falls. It was another hard day of labor, but you are pleased: the garden now looks as you’d wanted it to, and that brings a sense of peace as you watch the silver slice of the moon, set like a brooch in the velvet sky.
The sensation of being watched is sudden. The surprise is great when you gaze ahead and see the Shadow. The now familiar frost encircles your heart, and the world has become eerily still as even cicadas stopped their endless chirping. You stand.
That night, that gruesome, surreal experience still lingers in your memory, no matter how many times you tried to forget. And now it’s here, a living nightmare having taken two lives that you know of—saving you from your fate in the process. But your curiosity of all things unexplainable is innate, and instead of fear, you find a voice to speak. “Have you... Have you come to take your due from me?”
What does one even ask a revenant? Is this presence such an entity? You’d never been deeply spiritual or religious, but now, this feels like a haunting.
He is not looking at you, as though he’d not heard your question. He appears taken with the small pool mirroring the golden light from several lamps, highlighting the crimson tips of his hair.
You try again. “Am I being haunted?”
No answer comes. He is as still as the stones in your garden.
“Did you make this arrangement… yourself?”
You recall that timbre and odd fluctuations, soft and umbrous. His archaic speech, as from another age. His voice akin to an ill omen. But within, you feel no threat or peril, not this time. Might as well humor him. Or it. “I did,” you answer. You are surely mad… surely, you think, even as your feet drag your body closer until you stand at his side.
His long locks hide most of his features, but despite that you can tell they are youthful, those of someone in their prime. He feels very present, for a ghost.
You watch the water in silence, the sickle moon reflected in the shallow pool. In its mirror-like surface, you, too, look like a shadow next to him. A single petal falls, causing a ripple that breaks the vision.
“I did not thank you, sir. For... that time.” When you blink, you are alone. “Wait!” You look around, darting to and fro in the garden, finding not a wisp of him.
“Well, then. It seems I am being haunted after all.”
Tumblr media
At first, it is morbid curiosity. You go, night after night, sitting in the same place, waiting. The wraith does not show itself again, but still, you go.
One night, you play the flute—an old thing your late father used to entertain you with once upon a time, until you begged and insisted you wanted to be taught too. You’d use the pastime to fill the empty spaces in your day, and it became a habit. It reminded you of him.
An intriguing meld of thrill and fear unfurls in your chest, and you know.
This time, he is seated on the same bench, back straight, posture dignified. His sheathed blade rests over his knees. He never looks at you, your haunting spirit. But he’s returned and this time, you don’t speak at all, you ask no questions. You keep playing, and he listens, and an ancient joy fills you to the brim.
Tumblr media
You play the flute often after that. Sometimes, you also sing, alone. When the moon is full, he stays longer. Now he speaks more than before, though his words are measured and at times even curt. Some questions he never answers: such as his name, his origin.
Once you asked who he’d been in life.
“Different.” Not quite an answer, but the most you’d gotten on the topic.
You slowly set down the flute. “Do you play?”
A hand twitches nervously on his knee: the most human reaction you’ve seen from him to date. It charms you, that same meld of unease and thrill flowering through your body. Wordlessly, you extend your hand, offering him the instrument.
The shock is great: for the brief moment in which his fingers brush yours, there is no other sensation but that of calloused human skin touching skin. He feels as solid as any other man. And this, now this gives you pause.
Your fingers close around his without thought and you gaze upward, finding...
Him, staring back at you, lips parted, revealing... fangs.
His features are indeed young, but like a veil lifted you see him: three pairs of eyes stare back at you, at first in surprise, then narrowing. The next moment he is on his feet, the flute fallen on the ground between you.
“You... You are no wraith.” What are you, then?
He turns around faster than you can see.
You’re shaking, you remember the deaths, his manner, and now the inhuman, impossible make of his physiognomy. Are you hallucinating? You must be. Perhaps loneliness has sickened your spirit, perhaps the effect of his presence instills madness in minds. But you’re boldly pulling at the sleeve of his patterned garment, rounding and facing him.
“Upper Rank… One,” you read in his eyes. He is still as Death, the void of silence surrounding him stronger than ever before. “Is that your name?”
You stare, fascinated. Your body cries flee but as in a spell you lean closer, balancing on your tiptoes. He is tall, taller than any man you’d seen or known; what are you doing? Your arm wraps around his neck and finds hot iron beneath silk. His lips are just as warm as the rest of him, but the rumble of a growl bursts through your chest.
You cannot breathe; the air refuses to enter your lungs.
He faces you, standing a distance away now with veined hands balled into fists.
“You foolish girl...”
His icy voice hurts your ears, the raw hatred in it so scathing your legs fail you as though severed, and you fall to your knees.
“How dare you... I could crush you like a fallen petal.” That same voice, dripping malice withering the life around you. The crimson in his eyes is aflame. “Perhaps, I will...”
“Yes I’m human, and I'm flawed, and overstepped! But you do not even have the courage to say what you are. Why? ... Why do you keep coming here?”
He stares you down, silent, cruelty twisting his mouth.
“Please, tell me. At least tell me, and then do what you will… but why?”
Please… tell me why.
His expression morphs from cruelty to utter horror, yellow pupils blown so wide they nearly swallow the red. His entire presence disrupting the world around you now seeps... regret?
Why? Why must you leave?
He raises a hand as if to ward you off, even though you still kneel and plead.
He takes one step back—away from you—and whispers, for the first time in a trembling voice. “You... your face...”
Michikatsu, please...
He retreats another step, a hand to his head.
We are a family... are you not happy? Are you not...
You slowly rise, against all reason trying to reach him again.
“Begone!” he thunders, and though you near him, though you wrap your arms around him driven by a need so deep its roots reach beyond your own life, you find yourself alone again; unscathed, holding nothing.
The song of cicadas fills the night. Your chest hurts, your heart feels bruised and broken behind your ribs. An overflow of emotion wells in your eyes.
I will never see him again.
A voice within, your own and not your own. But you wish...
You wish it were his fingers playing through your hair instead of the empty wind.
The moon above is blood-red, partly hidden beneath a cloud. The flute lies at your feet, abandoned by the bench.

Nezuko's Favorite: Konpeitou
It's time for Kimetsu Kitchen, and over-analyzing a tiny lore detail! And by tiny, I mean 1.5cm or smaller.
Tumblr media
As already stated in the first fanbook, Tanjiro reminds us the Yuukaku Arc Taisho Secrets that Nezuko's favorite food is humans konpeitou, colorful tiny candies that are made almost entirely out of sugar. They are best known for their signature shape, with a bunch of bumps called "tsuno," that is... horns.
Tumblr media
Aha, I see what you did there, Gotouge. So in that light, I'm not going to hold back wherever I see connections to Nezuko. First off, like Nezuko, konpeitou also comes in many fun sizes. Because of how the horns are formed with the candies bumping into each other and dripping onto the biggest protrusions, the candies have fewer and fewer horns as they get bigger.
We'll get into how they are made is a second, but first a brief history. Konpeitou, like castella and tempura, were introduced to Japan in the Sengoku period by the Portuguese missionaries. Warlord Oda Nobunaga was even presented with some earlier versions of this "confeit" that had anise at its core for a refreshing finish. However, after the missionaries were kicked out, they disappeared for a time, until Edo-period townspeople in Nagasaki (with access to trading with the Dutch) developed a pan-fried version, which they named 金平糖 (gold-even-sugar). Konpeitou were a rare treat accessible only the rich and powerful, such has the emperor using it for special occasions, until a new and easier method with rotating frying pans was patented in 1903. This was already 36 years into the Meiji period, and Nezuko would had been a toddler.
The first konpeitou factory opened in 1907 in Osaka, which is when they really took off as a wide-spread treat, including being sent abroad in soldiers' rations. The first ones were not flavored, they were purely made of granular sugar and sugar syrup (a mix of sugar and water, so yay, more sugar!), and they came in four different sizes. However, the first variations came when they made a mix of four basic colors to reflect the seasons: pink for cherry blossoms in spring, green for summer greenery, yellow for the autumn leaves, and white for winter snow.
Tumblr media
(The closest example I saw to the colors Nezuko might had had available, don't mind those orange ones.)
Throughout the Taisho period they gradually gave way to more popular sweets like ice cream and chocolates, but when Nezuko was a 12-year-old likely around 1912~1913, these would had been widely available and popular.
So how are they made today? Still mostly in Osaka, there's only about 10 factories in Japan that produce them. But only about 5 in Portugal that do, so no wonder people assume they are a Japanese invention! Although you can still find them as purely sugar-flavored and some cafes likes to use them instead of sugar or sugar cubes, you can find them in a very wide variety of colors and flavors now. Basically, if it can be dissolved into syrup, you can color or flavor konpeitou with it.
Konpeitou starts with granular sugar, turned twice a minute in tilted frying pans that are 180cm across at 75 degress C. Every few minutes it gets coated with a scrap of syrup, which gradually makes the candy grow bigger and bigger. It sounds like a simple process, but it takes a lot of patience and practice to get the precise humidity, temperature, timing, and movement to attain a translucent appearance and smooth texture with a pleasing array of horns.
If there is one character in KnY who is extremely patient and can pour that sort of effort into developing something, it's Nezuko. Konpeitou grow only 1mm per day (so it takes two weeks to make a batch of large konpeitou), but that ongoing, dedicated growth is very auspicious, like... hmm. Like what the asanoha pattern on Nezuko's kimono symbolizes. I've always assumed the vines in Nezuko's demon crest symbolized the same thing.
Alright, now to turn this into a Kimetsu Kitchen blog. If you are in Osaka prefecture, you too can join a very brief konpeitou making class to add the finishing touches to a little batch of mostly-finished konpeitou! You get to choose the flavors and colors, and for extra money, you can even add edible gold flakes or get cute jars to put them in. I got to make two batches, one based on the color and flavor already in the first batch. I was concerned out pink and green might mix, so I went with pink followed by yellow for a nice nod to Zenitsu's efforts in Kimetsu Academy to give her the perfect konpeitou. However, I wound up with a nice shade of peachy orange like her hair, and I'm sure Zenitsu doesn't mind.
Tumblr media
I call the flavor "drink bar" because I thought a non-pick flavor like melon would be ironic and I wound up with a mix of melon and cola. It's pretty good.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
The base konpeitou was purely sugar flavored and white, but with tiny ladles of syrup with food coloring and flavor added and stirred about ten seconds at a time, the shape also gradually changed as the horns got more pronounced. It really is up to taste how little or how much you want to add, they're very versatile once the basics are formed.

FRIENDS TO LOVERS TOURNAMENT BRACKET
thank you all for your patience! here's our updated bracket:
Tumblr media
(the typed-out list of match-ups can be found under the cut)
sorry if your ship didn't make it in btw. we made our selections based on number of submissions + strength of propaganda and these were the ones that made the cut
a reminder of the rules because we want this tournament to be a fun & safe space for everyone:
be respectful to the other voters and to us mods. supporting your fave(s) is encouraged, but we will NOT tolerate any hate towards other ships. anything from "wreck those twinks" to slurs and hate speech will get you blocked IMMEDIATELY, no questions asked or chances given. if you have nothing nice to say to/about your opponent then literally don't say anything at all; just vote and scream for your blorbos then MOVE ON. there are better things to do than being toxic about some pixels online.
a ship being canon does not make it "superior" and a ship not being canon does not make it "inferior". comments like "XX ship is canon therefore it's better than YY ship" will also get you blocked immediately. we let headcannoned ships in so more people can indulge in silly blorbo fun, don't ruin it.
propaganda is encouraged! preferably do it in the text of a reblog of the relevant poll, but sending it via an ask is also an option
-mod deli 🎀
4. also propaganda in the form of fanart, fics, and memes are also encouraged! (just specifying this to make it clear)
-mod soba 🍜
