The term “kin”, in contexts of fictionkin or otherkin, actually originated from a Lord of the Rings forum! Some members of the forum felt as if they where spiritually elves from the series, and thus coined the term “Elfkin”. When other kintypes appeared, Elfkins assigned them as “Otherkin”, which is where the term comes from!

The majority of Otherkin in general are 18-25

But the majority of Otherkin on TikTok are 12-14 and TikTok is the main platform where we are seen by non-kin

So now there’s this big misconception that we are all young tweens running on all fours and wearing mask when in reality most of us don’t do that and its barely scratching the surface of the community

I’m not saying young otherkin aren’t valid because they are young, I’m just saying right now they are the face of the community because TikTok is the place where non-kin “learn” about us

This has been asked many times before, and will be asked many times again, and that is completely okay.

It can be normal to not have memories of your kintype.

However, it is important to make sure you know what memories are.

Not every memory is a visual recollection of events one after another.

Sometimes a memory is a familiar smell.

Sometimes a memory is "just knowing" and being sure of something.

Sometimes a memory is an impression of a face.

Sometimes a memory is a recollection of touch.

Sometimes a memory is music you don't know where you heard it.

Sometimes a memory is knowing the sound of someone's voice.

Memory is different for everyone, and not every memory is something that plays out like a flashback. This is as true for regular memories as it is for kin memories.

So I came up with a term with the help of a discord server and I was prompted to make a coining post for it so, i'll give it a shot!

Soulhood [noun]

A level of kin embodiment meaning that the kintype in question encompasses your entire soul.

The term is meant to act as a strong form of kin connection, and also has an element of spirituality to it, which other kin terms don't necessarily have! It does not require having lived as the kintype in a past life, or in another universe, etc; only that you feel a spiritual connection to it.

That being said, this term was coined by someone who is primarily a psychological kin- I made this term because having something feel so completely connected to me spiritually is a new experience for me, and I wanted a word for it! For spiritual kins, this might just be.. every kin you've ever had. But that is completely okay!!

Anyone can use the term if they feel it fits them, I only ask that you do not gatekeep it or use it for hateful or discriminatory purposes-- nor do you EVER use it to describe yourself as "more valid" than others, or anything similar.

Additionally, you may use it for identities that aren't kintypes, for example, with a copinglink or constel. What counts as a soulhood kintype is entirely up to you and will likely vary heavily between people- the kin experience is never the same!
