actually we are both SO lucky because tumblr wouldnt let me send the ask initially—I had to copy an earlier version and try sending it to myself several times to figure out what the error was. so i DO have an earlier copy of the ask—it was less clean so I'll add more fun colors to make it less of a pain to read. ANYWAY, IT IS AS FOLLOWS:
"THE GEORGE EPISODE...sorry this is gonna be a long ask, I hope you don't mind! I love that ep for personal reasons that have almost nothing to do w/ the episode itself, which is, I agree, aside from the social message of "don't be a bigot" (AND TRAPPERS SINGINGGGG) kind of mid!
but. i was re-watching it recently. and the scene where George comes out and then Father Mulcahy interrupts w/ the football and Hawkeye does a really bad throw, kind of caught my attention oddly.
I know the main purpose of the interaction is to wrap up the scene nicely, give Hawkeye a way to bounce off of George asking Hawk not to tell anybody abt him being A Homosexual. but it also directly connects Hawkeyes Comedic Sports Failure to George's Homosexuality and w/ the way that lack of aptitude in sports is considered a Gay Thing especially back in the day, the little voice in my head that loves looking for meaning in stories said: "This is a purposeful connection the writers are drawing between Hawkeye and George"
and then the rest of my brain kicked up and kicked in and kicked down the door and said "take a breather, you transexual bisexual. not everything is about intentional queercoding." and i was like yeah. fine. whatever. fine. alright.
and while I do kinda believe bisexual reading of Hawkeye is inevitable to any viewer who has ever given thoughtful consideration to how one man might want to touch another man, calling it coding in this scene might be a pretty dramatic stretch. i can't argue with that. sure.
BUT. i was working on a sewing project later and needed something light and easy to listen to, and i poked at the MASHMatters podcast and found they had an interview with one of the writers of that very episode—Gary Markowitz. [ep 71 if u want it]
AND. i have three interesting things to tell u i learned from that.
1) ORIGINALLY the ending of the episode was not going to be "Frank was hiding something embarrassing in HIS past TOO! He paid for his degree!" (Markowitz did not like this ending because he was like "are we really going to say that being gay is something in your past you Should be ashamed of?") but instead. Frank was going to get drunk and admit that there was an older family friend with a tattoo he really. really admired when he was younger. Admired the guy's muscles. Maybe. Sure, maybe he wanted to be him, but maybe...maybe he wanted...Something Else.
Obviously...I mean. I don't think I'd consider that a Diversity Win.
Honestly? In this one weird case maybe I agree with the censors that blackmailing Frank about paying for the answers to the test was kind of better. Esp with the idea that "the most homophobic people are the homosexuals themselves" being a particularly shitty trope.
and I think the explicit confirmation that Frank himself might have some homosexual tendencies might have overshadowed the single-ep-character, George, and come right around to being a "well its ok to bully the annoying homosexuals" message. which would already be a horrible message in an era where I think homosexuality itself was cause for disgust and irritation for many people. but. well. anyway.
2) MARKOWITZ MENTIONED THE RADAR AND HENRY BIT.
Markowitz said they intentionally included the monthly checkup bit to illustrate how, in a situation such as this, men are often very intimate with each other, putting themselves in vulnerable situations with other men, touching other men, already.
Like, sure the rest of the episode maybe you (a homophobic 1970s audience) are freaking out about a man wants to touch other men intimately, but you're totally okay and unbothered about this corporal getting so up in his C.O.'s business that he can see a little nativity scene in his ear?
He said they wanted to make it clear that homophobia is a silly stance to take when men are touching men for all sorts of reasons all the time in a setting like the military. Like. It is just naturally a kind of homosocial homosexual homoplatonic environment just on account of how homogenous the gender variance of any given environment is.
and I was like. whoa. hey. that's a lot more thought than I gave the writers credit for, and that's on me! I really like that scene even more now!
3) Apparently, when Markowitz and his writing partner (John W. Regier) submitted this (their first script to get accepted) idea to the usual MASH writers nobody was Thrilled about it. Like, it was Fine but they were in a friendly competition with All In The Family to tackle social issues, and so they were like "FINEEEEE i GUESSSS we'll talk about THE GAY ISSUE. since All In The Family Hasn't yet. WHATEVER."
which doesn't surprise me in the least given the show itself as well as the time it was made in, but does disappoint me a little.
ANYWAY!!!!!!!
So I took all this stuff and brought it with me when I started thinking about all the other little scenes in there—like when George pauses when Frank mentions The Pink Scourge before Frank clarifies that he means communists.
OR when Henry gets his nails done by the nurse he's sweet on—and asks with an easy familiarity for the buffing treatment. How she calls his hands beautiful, and he says he got them from his mother.
OR OR OR. the one where Hawkeye is painting that nurse's toes, and she says "wow you're really good at this" and then Radar comes over and ALSO says hawkeye is really good at painting toenails. and that scene is RIGHT before he throws the football really badly. and how THAT is followed by Mulcahy getting tackled by a bunch of other soldiers, so it's just a writhing mass of olive drab, men's bodies against men's bodies against men's bodies.
Perhaps it wasn't just to wrap up the scene, but also used just very very subtly reinforce that in some ways, Hawkeye is less of the Red Blooded American Icon of Masculinity than this Gay Soldier, who is begging to be sent back to the front lines to serve his country, despite being assaulted by his own unit—and then. maybe. Maybe the American Ideal Of Masculinity, commonly tied to football, to being in the military, etc, is itself...a little...Hm. You Know. Like when Radar opens the door to the shower while Hawk + Trap are in there, and a crowd outside starts clapping. I think that transexual bisexual impulse is getting the best of me maybe. anyway.
ANYWAY i hope this ask was enjoyable for you you and i thank you for reading it! Your analytical posts about MASH always give me a lot to think about and I find myself wanting to return some of that enjoyment back to you! "
postscript: thank u so much for posting ur thoughts despite the tumblr mayhem, i am eating them!!! slurping them up like a carton of noodles. packaging the rest in a little tupperware to save for later!!
ah thank you for re-submitting it! i couldn't remembering enough of it to summarize your points and do them justice.
... very very subtly reinforce that in some ways, Hawkeye is less of the Red Blooded American Icon of Masculinity than this Gay Soldier, who is begging to be sent back to the front lines to serve his country, despite being assaulted by his own unit—and then. maybe. Maybe the American Ideal Of Masculinity, commonly tied to football, to being in the military, etc, is itself...a little...Hm. You Know
I do think this is what is textually happening in several episodes of MASH, including in George. @marley-manson articulated it very well in a post that i am unable to locate at this time, where she stated that Hawkeye's "hmm" moments are about gender expression. moments that hold him up as something other than "Red Blooded American Icon of Masculinity."
there's lots of examples of this from early MASH but my favourite is this one from Yankee Doodle Doctor. runner up: Frank at some point @ HawkTrap "you-! you... guys!" HawkTrap: "we are notttt~"
totally valid to see that as lending itself well to a trans Hawkeye headcanon (although Trapper is the one following when they dance, not Hawkeye - and big lug that he is, Trapper also manages to subvert trad masculinity in his own masc way... ), but I really like it as is too - there's more than one way to be a man. you don't have to buy what traditional masculinity is selling you. you can be a lover, rather than a fighter.

MONTHLY MEDIA: October 2023
It's the scariest time of the year and I'm not talking about tax season. Here's how I spent the month of October!
……….FILM……….
Tumblr media
Elvira: Mistress of the Dark (1988) Knowing practically nothing about Elvira's schtick, I was floored by how...utterly constant the jokes come at you. I later read a review that described Elvira's character as "Groucho Marx with boobs" and I couldn't put it any better. If this didn't end with a rap I'd give it a perfect score.
Tumblr media
The Nice Guys (2016) So great. It really is a shame we didn't get more with this cast cause it's all just so great. The casual violence, the comedy, the setting, it's perfect. Between this and Barbie I'm now realizing just how perfect Ryan Gosling is at playing the beautiful idiot. "I think I'm invincible. It's the only thing that makes sense," is so good. Anyway go watch it if you haven't seen it.
Detroit Rock City (1999) Does a great job of setting the tone early and commits to it through to the very end. Fun and gross and problematic...just how KISS would want it.
……….TELEVISION……….
Tumblr media
Poker Face (Episode 1.07 to 1.08) Love that I can watch an episode or two and just kinda enjoy the ride. More episodic mysteries, please. And with Detroit Rock City, this makes October a real Natasha Lyonne month.
Love is Blind (Episode 5.01 to 5.11) Wild to discover an entire proposal/wedding got axed from the show and I'm constantly reminded that anyone who goes on a reality tv show will inevitably disappoint you.
……….YOUTUBE……….
Tumblr media
Pop Science And The Limitations Of Infotainment by Coffee Break Really interesting breakdown of the dangers that go along with turning science into something more digestible and engaging. Well worth the watch. VIDEO
This is Financial Advice by Folding Ideas Yes I did watch a 2.5 hour dive into meme stocks. And I'd do it again in a heartbeat. VIDEO
Tumblr media
yay, modern filmmaking... by CinemaStix and The Pirates Trilogy is Pure Bliss by Just Write Clearly I enjoy watching video essays about film and these two really stood out. Both channels tend to lean towards celebrating film and media but Cinemastix's...gentle deconstruction of why the faster pace of editing in modern films can be a disservice to the artform really left an impression with me. And I'm still a big fan of the original Pirates trilogy. VIDEO (Modern Filmmaking) VIDEO (Pirates)
……….READING……….
Tumblr media
The Tombs of Atuan by Ursula K. Le Guin (Complete) I love a good beefy novel but then you read something like this: something so lean and yet so rich, and you start to wonder why authors need hundreds of pages to tell a story. A Wizard of Earthsea didn't click with me when I first read it but I really should go back to it (as well as continue the Earthsea Cycle).
Take Ivy by Shosuke Ishizu, Teruyoshi Hayashida, and Toshiyuki Kurosu (Complete) Really great style-inspiration after listening to the podcast series dedicated to it.
Tumblr media
Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: The IDW Collection Vol. 11 by Kevin Eastman, Tom Waltz, Damian Couceiro, and other talented illustrators and letterers (Complete) Went back to the TMNT comic after seeing Mutant Mayhem and this was such a great return to form! One of the strongest collection of stories I can remember in a while. Even the human-centric stuff (which tends to fall flat for me in this series) was interesting and just enough to work. Really great stuff.
Ultimate Spider-Man Volume 10 (HC) by Brian Michael Bendis, Stuart Immonen, and many others (Complete) I admit I've always prefered Immonen's work to Bagley's so I'm excited to finally get into his run in this reread. The Ultimate Goblins never worked for me but this volume has a really great second arc that highlights the best of Spider-Man (blending highschool drama with superhero drama).
……….AUDIO……….
Tumblr media
Destroyer by Kiss (1976) You know I never really got into KISS and I have no idea why. I love theatrics, I love rock opera, I love a gimmick. This has all of that in spades. Needless to say I'm now a big fan.
……….GAMING……….
Tumblr media
Oz: A Fantasy Role-Playing Setting (Andrews McMeel Publishing) Both of my groups are in Oz this month (it is Oztober, afterall). One crew is currently sorting out drama in Munchkin District and the other is still navigating the aftermath of some magically-caused domestic terrorism.
And that’s it. See you in November!

warning warning, this may be an unpopular bsd opinion! brace for impact and potentially hurt feefees!
honestly i don't think i'm even going to bother with the bsd manga anymore until someone tells about this arc having at least some sort of hope or resolution because, especially with each chapter being monthly, i'm kinda getting tired of how much of a never-ending convoluted charlie-foxtrot this arc is.
hell, i was talking with my friends in one of the dazatsu discord servers and it's literally been more than five years since we've seen dazai and atsushi interact in the manga. what made me love this manga was the character interactions, especially between those two.
i miss when bsd was just a fun little series about weird and interesting characters with weird powers doing weird shit and solving weird cases, with the occasional character arc.
i miss this series being about hope and it never being too late to improve yourself, all that crap.
if every chapter was weekly then i may or may not feel differently about the state of the manga, or rather this current arc. but i also understand as an illustrator and sometimes comic artist that comics are tough and the manga industry is already a harsh mofo and i have no intentions of contributing to the problem with my impatience
don't even know where i'm going with this anymore, but yeah. i'll still read all the light novels and wan chapters, and even still watch the anime because i wholeheartedly love this series and i want to support it however I can. but i just can't be bothered with the manga anymore.
TL;DR: i'm sick of the bsd manga at this point. wake me up when this arc is finally over

(Gerard Way, by me. Black ballpoint, red fine-liner. 🖊🩸 )
Soo I’ve not posted much OC character stuff of recent as I’m still writing the second chapter of The Lord of Wet and Pyro Princess Adventures (Genshin Ayato x Diluc fanfic I’m having a lot of fun with as I’m back in ~Genshin playing mode~ since I invested a bunch in the game and it’s also the Lantern Rite time of year again, a favourite of mine).
I’ve had a request to finish my WattPad Kaze fanfic too, which I’ll try and deliver but I got kinda stick in the basement scene lmfao as writing Zero as a top is so odd for me even though I Want It to happen.
I’ve wanted to get out some Kaze stuff as not as many people post it anymore and I’ve realised there’s still a big fandom community for Vampire Knight which is excitingg! I might move it over to Ao3 once I have time.~
I’ve been a little busy planning and “making the art” and custom credit card designs as well as payment plan ideas not too mention considering setting up an Etsy or Fiverr or somewhere people have more access to than pixiv as setting up my regular posting on my pixivFANBOX and trying to build a schedule for Saturdays whilst juggling my physical/mental health and transition as well as parenting and socialising more. Basically I want a gallery of stuff to trickle out rather than doing it every week under pressure rather than when it comes to me, as whenever I have pressure to deliver I lose my imagination and just feel like it’s a chore so avoid it. I’m sure other creatives can relate!
Likewise I’m sitting back and reading again to unwind again and haven’t caught up with everything I’m reading yet but I’ve got numerous things In The Works I’m taking more time on rather than rushing out chapters such as:
• The NYE one shot for Orange Juice in the Studio~
• Chapter 3 “A Date In The City” of Orange Juice in the Studio, essentially the ~teaser~ Aquarium and ice cream parlour date where I finally introduce supporting character into the actual story who works at the parlour! I don’t know when I’ll be introducing Mama but they are on the horizon for sure. I’m currently busy researching real locations in Valencia and I’ve never been so I don’t have in person reference and am sourcing that online. I’m also researching top LGBT+ hang out locations/clubs in the city to make appearances in the storyline.
• ORANGE JUICE IN THE STUDIO CHARACTER INFO SHEETS!!! Exciting.
Here I’ll give lots of what you need to know about OC and Reader! I’m wondering if I should not make one though for Reader or ask for engagement from my actual readers of Who Reader Is To Them, as well, the whole point of the character is to depict You as a reader, and those who relate to what I write can get on board. I will make a mock up one for sure and be loose with it as a rule! Or leave out absolute details like “star sign” or height or something.~
• Beginning work on the AU “HorrorLand! The Isle of Marionettes”! This will be about the Orange Juice OCs. As you can tell, it’ll be slightly gory horror fiction, somewhere to express my love for horror and things but not canon. Just a little fun.
• Designing what will be in my monthly newsletter which only Bronze subscribers will get for yours truly to enjoy!
• Weekly updates to my pixivFANBOX, with my manga style art specifically. My pixivFANBOX is for my manga art style only, my other types of art can be found on zer0comicz IG, and Zer0 Comics on Facebook, or posted on here. This is my official name for my freelance illustration/comic business.
• I’ll try getting some new commissions up I’ve got of OC and Reader on here and/or on @crimsonyoukai , if not that, I’ll make some mock ups on PiCrew whilst I’m doing my own.
• Tiered FANs will be getting The Monthly Marionette+, this begins after the first month of being a patron on Bronze, Silver (to be set up) and Gold (to be set up). I’ll announce when the newsletter is starting to air!
You can get early teasers for chapters of OJITS posted on my pixivFANBOX as well too on Bronze tier, I’m not posting teasers so much on here anymore until I’ve aired it for protection of my work etc.
My Ao3 profile for writing updates!
Any queries or questions or anything you’d like to know in general or what you may like to also see from me, please feel free to drop them into my Ask Box!
I have commissions open for art likewise. Each custom piece is £5, £10 for more detailed works, which I offer postage for the original or a print. Tattoo designs are £25 each.

What kinda gamer is ThatLuckyBear?
This is a long post. So I'm into video games maybe a bit too much. Here's what I like:
Tetris + Dr. Mario (puzzle games): Core to my gaming spirit. I like to do speedruns of 0-21 on Dr. Mario 64 and I've been known to play 0-20 on Dr. Mario for the NES as well. I loved Tetris since NES but fell back in love with Tetris DS and now I mostly just do sprints on tetr.io. I'm also a 8 chain Puyo-Puyo scrub and I like the game but lack the energy to get better at it. Since this is kind of in the vein of puzzle solving the Ace Attorney games as well as oldschool Point and Click adventure games are wonderful for me as well.
Soulslike: These are all fun. I haven't played most of them though. Dark Souls 1 and Bloodborne are my favs and I've put a lot of time into Elden Ring but Miquella shut down my run and I haven't had time to grind it out. I'll finish it eventually though.
Metroidvania: Huge fan of the genre. Hollowknight is my favorite at time of writing but Castlevania Dawn of Sorrow is an ultra banger and I would have a hard time not mentioning it. I've played all the DS Castlevanias and I love them all.
Schlooters: Looting and shooting is fun. I play coop with my wife and we really enjoy Borderlands. We also had a good time with Outriders. Destiny 2 has been kinda tough to get into but we're trying to get a feel for it before investing any money.
MMORPGS: I've been doing these since 2003 if you can believe it. I was playing Ragnarok Online pre-beta by sneaking onto jRO. I really hit the road running with the iRO beta. Since then I've put a lot of love into Tera Online (Elin berserker just tickles my "hehe" bone, I had a popo too but Elin was the best imo) - I enjoyed FFXIV (Lala paladin) but it's too expensive for me to keep up with the monthly. I really wanna finish FFXIV's story someday. Phantasy Star Online, and Dungeon Fighter Online get a honorable mention but I really haven't had a chance to be in love with them since my MMO muscles are weak and my gaming time short in my age.
RPGS: Classic and modern I'm a big fan of RPGS. I've fallen in love with Dragon Quest recently although it was one of the first RPGS I played (Dragon Warrior NES.) I remember looking through Nintendo Power Magazine and looking at the illustrations and descriptions of the weapons and just getting SO JAZZED. Anyway Super Mario RPG is the best RPG of all time followed by Pokemon Blue/Red would be my call. I love modern Pokemon games but I haven't spent much time with others.
Action RPG: Monster Hunter, Yakuza (love but never played much,) Cyberpunk 2077, Resident Evil (2/4/7) and so many more. I'm a hunting horn main and I am head over heels for Monster Hunter and will always love it.
Competitive: I like to compete but I don't do it much because I have /emotional issues/ and I can't keep my lid on proper. That said I really have a great time playing Smash Ultimate (not a Melee guy sorry it's too hard for me) Street Fighter, Tekken, Granblue VS, and Smash are kind of the only ones I like playing these days. While I used to do a lot of FPS competitives I'm boycotting Actiblizzard so no COD or Overwatch til they remove Bobby Kotick. Valorant is too hard and time consuming but I love it (I'm bad at it sadly.) I might play Fortnite someday but idk if I'll get into it.
the COMF: I love some comfy games. Some of the above fit that category for me (Pokemon Red/Blue to be specific) but Stardew, Animal Crossing, anything Wholesome games, Minecraft, Stray etc. Anything that can make me sleepy usually fits me well.
Platformers: I get into some 3d mario games. I especially enjoyed Odyssey. I kind of get most of my platforming jazz out of the metroidvania stuff but I couldn't get through this without mentioning how much the 3d (and 2d for that matter) mario games matter to me.
There's obviously millions more games that I forgot and couldn't touch on. Day of Defeat was a formative competitive shooter experience as well as all the other HL1 mods I played. I could go on forever but I hope this helps you understand what kind of gamer I am. While I'm pretty eclectic in taste I'm also pretty formulated. These days I spend most of my time trying to find coop experiences to have with my wife so lmk if you've got some cool ones I should look into. 🧡

Fun With Numbers: Writing Analytics Version
I did one of these before and it was fun (for me) so I’m going to do it again (for me) because what’s the point of tracking all your writing word counts over years in an Excel document if not to do fun numbers games with them! (the actual answer is that it was/is meant to have a visual reminder of my writing patterns so that I know that it is normal for me to have an up/down/up/down rhythm to how much I’m writing, but.)
So! I have been tracking my daily word count on a spreadsheet since August of 2016, which means I’ve accumulated a fair amount of data over that period of time, including:
Total Word Count (2016-2021): 2,156,279
Average Daily Word Count (2016-2021): 1,290
Average Monthly Word Count (2016-2021): 39,185
Average Annual Word Count (2017-2021)*: 468,248
Now if you want to see a nuts comparative graph charting five years of daily writing data all on top of each other, here you go:
Tumblr media
But that really just gives a visual indication of the relative level of how I’m writing day to day, which is more illustrative of the fact that I am remarkably consistent. That highest peak there is from July 31, 2019, when I apparently wrote 6,112 words in a single day. Overall, though, it runs pretty close around the same range.
Cutting here, for those who don’t want to see me go really insane...
From month to month, meanwhile, comparing by year:
Tumblr media
Hard to suss out any real trend/pattern here.
(Love how you can see my absolutely nuts September in 2021 there. Good to know that was exactly as insane as I thought it was! Only November 2017 has it beat. Must’ve been doing NaNo that year.)
Even when I added the average (for each month over the years):
Tumblr media
My only real conclusion is that there’s no pattern in a particular month being more active in general than others, at least not by a large margin. January, March, May, and September do seem to trend on the higher side, but again, not by a lot.
If you wanted to see a graph that just shows the average of these five years in terms of daily word count (i.e. just the average line from that first graph above):
Tumblr media
Looks kinda like a heartbeat, dunnit? It really makes visible the astonishingly regular up/down/up rhythm of my writing patterns. Regardless of how much or how little I am writing on any given day, the fluctuation over time follows a definite pattern. This is why my periodic WHAT IF I NEVER WRITE AGAIN panics are very silly. You’ve been doing this for five years, Lise, this happens.
Now if you’re curious about year to year (I know you are!) then here’s a graph for that:
Tumblr media
Noticeable drop from 2017-2018 to 2019; I’d have to check dates but I suspect that’s when I moved to a more demanding/time-consuming job. A lift in 2020 likely because of pandemic time when I wasn’t doing anything else. 2021 marked my lowest year on record so far (first time under 400,000 words since I started recording) which I am not feeling funny about and I think is probably a result of last year being either (a) a fucking nightmare or (b) just really busy.
Also because I was curious, I checked, and over this period of time I have 304 days marked as a 0 word day, with the fewest in 2020 (43) and the most in 2019 (75). That’s 16.67% of my recorded days, for anyone wondering (which I’m sure you were).
*2017 being the first year I have a complete set of a year’s data for.
I could get even deeper and start looking at data on ranges (i.e. how often/what percentage of the time was my word count between 1-500, 500-1000, 1000-1500, or above), but I think I’m just going to stop myself here before I get even weirder about this.
And if you didn’t know what kind of nut you were following...well, now you do.

Top 5 of 2020 by Laserbobcat
Rules: it’s time to love yourselves! Choose your 5 (ish) favorite works you created in the past year (fics, art, edits, etc.) and link them below to reflect on the amazing things you brought into the world in 2020. Tag as many writers/artists/etc as you want (fan or original) so we can spread the love and link each other to awesome works!
YO so Anna tagged me on this and I’m like HAHAHA choosing only 5 things in my huge art dump that’s a joke. The monthly thing already had me sweating for fuck’s sake. The thing is, I draw A LOT, in bulks, and I don’t really push my renders very far, so i don’t have like, awe inspiring pretty pieces I’m especially fond of... BUT she threatened me and now I have to be self loving and all, what a nightmare. Friends are the worst. So i’m cheating and making this into 5 categories with a few examples and links! Hahaha take that authority and rules.
#5 - OK SO maybe I have a few drawing that I like because they’re milestones in my improvement or something. It happens.
Tumblr media
Like, finally being able to draw extra buff baddass women, finishing a more detailled illustration, getting a good dose of life and dynamism into a sketch, or just drawing an acceptable tasty piece of ass like the thirsty bitch I am. ALSO I am proud of EVERY soft smile I managed to get out on the canvas. Soft smiles are the best and when I draw them I feel gooey and people tell me they love them. Good stuff.
#4 - Which leads to: every soft shit I’ve ever drawn, like ever. Life is harsh, we need soft content to warm us up.
Tumblr media
I mean I was nicknamed Fluff for a reason. I have whole ass tags especially for this btw: Softness, Hug, Kiss. I’m organized. The links are: arcanine hug, this werewolf AU, this other AU, this screentones thing, that Swap Roles AU (yes AUs, lots of AUs) and the genderbent reguri thing I did.
#3 - The stupid shit I draw.
Tumblr media
Comedy is my life and blood. I can’t stay serious for long. They’re also fast to do and satysfying. That torchic comic is actually my all time most shared piece, it fucking exploded! I don’t have tag for fun stuff cause it’s kinda my default mode...
#2 - My sonas and asks reactions
Tumblr media
Cringe is dead, cats ears are in. This kinda goes along with the third category cause my ask reactions are some of the dumbest shit I draw. I love asks! I rarely do things to engage with people though... I should, but i’m more of a “make stuff in my corner and dump it on the internet absent-mindedly” type of media user. Bear with me guys. I love you. I tag all those with “Sona”!
#1 - THIS DUDE RIGHT HERE. THIS ONE.
Tumblr media
YEAH maybe i'm biased cause it's the OCs I'm into these days, but DAMN I'm having a blast drawing them. They saved my end of the year and my artblock/burnout. I hope you like Luke's dumb smile cause you're probably gonna see it for a while! The tag is DnD!
I hope I can get out at least 10% of the cool shit I have in my head for them. List includes things like : -Tiel yelling at the others cause they fall asleep when she tells awesome stories -Aeva learning to use a mace and leaving huge holes everywhere in the floor and walls but not touching the training dummy -Luke and Ranec trying to drown each other in a public bath while Celadon is watching tiredly -Tiel reluctantly polymorphing into a cat to cheer up a sad Luke -Luke and March betting on who can piss off Ranec the fastest -Ranec's halfling adoptive mom yelling at him cause he said the F word -Aeva abandoning the mace and punching the dummy in frustration, tearing off its head in one move and crying about it afterwards -Various members of the group saying that Luke's hot sister can definitely step on them, and Luke suggesting to avoid her cause she's known to do way more painful things than that -Various members of the group wanting to be stepped on more even more -SOME COOL FIGHT SCENES ??? That would be great? I want to improve this year too ! i’m tired of drawing the same stuff again and again. Flash Info News : I'm not into reguri anymore ! I mean, I love the two idiots, they have a special place in my heart, I just want to draw other things for now. I've been drawing reguri / namelessshipping for AGES, in fact I started that tumblr almost two year ago for this ship. I used to not draw fanart that much, and certainly not share it. It was fun to obsess on a ship for that long, it felt like embracing the cringe stuff I didn't allow myself to do when I was younger. I met cool people too sharing that interest, it was nice ! But now the interest has finally burned down. I’M SUPPOSED TO TAG PEOPLE BUT I DON’T KNOW THAT MANY ARTISTS HERE? Maybe @empearts when you get back home? Or @geneseedraws if you have time? @moonfang182-magic get your fingers out of your ass and make a top 5 too instead of sharing furry stuff :D Damn I’m bad at this networking stuff. U__U HAVE A COOL YEAR we fucking deserve it. Hope you’ll enjoy seeing my shit for the year to come too XD

Short History of the American Comic Book Industry, Part I (1929-1954)
No-one asked for it, but I can, so here it comes:
The 0th hour
The turn of the century: comics exist as political cartoons and comic strips in Sunday newspapers
Then we have The Funnies (1929-1930), which was, well, like a comic magazine, but not really. It was published weekly/monthly, was sold at newsstands, had new materisl, but it was described as “more a Sunday comic section without the rest of the newspaper.” It also folded quickly.
But then in 1933 some clever guys at the Eastern Color Printing Company had the great idea to reprint Sunday comics, so the printers wouldn’t be standing idle during the night. This became The Famous Funnies, which was given away as a promotional item by Procter & Gamble. It was a HUGE hit.
So the next year came Funnies on Parade, which is considered the first real American comic book. Because it was sold for money! (10 cents) And it had new material! First in black and white, then soon in color. And people loved it, and bout hundreds of thousand copies of it.
And then of course people started to realize that there was business in comics, and within a couple of years, everybody and their mother was publishing comics.
The Golden Age
Started with Superman—with Action Comics #1 in 1938
Jerry Siegel and Joe Shuster, who were high school buddies, had actually been working on the character since 1933. At some point, he was meant to be a villain. At another, he was meant to have been sent back from the future. They got $130 for the script.
He is also a Jewish assimilation fantasy (PSA: most of the big name from the early days of comics were Jewish) and kinda like Moses—somebody who is different, and is loved for being different.
And it was a total fluke that he ended up on the cover of Action Comics. If I remember well, publisher Jack Liebowitz decided on the cover the day before the issue went to printing.
Superman was everything that people loved: sci-fi, fantasy, mythology, pulp. They loved it.
Soon, everyone is doing superheroes. Like, everyone. There are a bunch of publishers, too, because everyone wants a slice of the profit. Most characters never get their own series, and are soon forgotten.
Batman came in 1939. Marvel also started publishing comics that year, but back then they were known as Timely comics. Their first characters were Namor and the Human Torch, but not the Johnny Storm Human Torch. Nope, this was an android.
People love comics, everybody is reading comics, and the most popular titles sells more than a million copies per issue. But it’s embarrassing to work on comics. If you want to be taken seriously as an illustrator/writer, you won’t admit that you’ve worked on comics. I bunch of comics from this era is uncredited.
Stanley Lieber started working for Timely at 17, in 1940 (he was a relative of the boss’ wife, that’s how he got the job). He wanted to be a serious a writer, so he knew he couldn’t have his real name featured in comics. So he signed his stuff as Stan Lee instead.
Most comics are about three times as long as the ones today, and they feature a wide range of different stories: superhero stuff, talking animals, western, slapstick… There is a huge variety of genres. Each story is about 10 pages long, and those are separate, self-contained stories. Comics are printed in cheap, bad quality paper, and they’re not meant to last, so there’s not really any point in creating much of a continuity.
Only Timely is kinda doing it by sow the seeds of the shared narrative universe.
Also, of course, Wonder Woman also debuts in 1941. Holy cow, her creator, William Moulton Marston, was some character. Even more so than how he is depicted in Professor Marston and the Wonder Women, which does a great job at showcasing his theories and a terrible job at showing the origins of Wonder Woman.
Atomic Age, transition, and witch hunt
The superhero bubble bursts after the end of WWII. The biggest characters were all about the war effort and patriotism, and we don’t really care about it anymore. The interest shifts to science fiction, horror, true crime (these two mostly read by returning GIs, NOT by kids), and most superheroes are forgotten. Some people call this period the Atomic Age of Comics
William Moulton Marston dies in 1947, and Robert Kanigher takes over writing Wonder Woman, replacing WMM’s bondage-infused “feminism” (the quotation marks are justified) with traditional femininity. Now it’s not about Diana bringing peace, but about her getting Steve marry her.
Captain America fights commies for a couple of issues in 1954, and it’s surreal.
Also, TV sets were becoming more popular, so kids turned to TV instead of comics.
Criticism against comics it also growing. Because it’s bad. It’s immoral, and it hurts the kids’ eyes, and it goes against physics and stuff.
The real problem is that for the first time, kids are deciding for themselves what to read—comics are cheap enough that they can buy them themselves.
People actually hold comic burnings in the late 1940s.
Then here comes Dr. Fredric Wertham, psychiatrist, who was working with juvenile delinquents in Harlem, and he had this idea that kids turned to crime because they were reading comics. And he was loud about it.
In 1954, he published a book titled Seduction of the Innocent, where he said stuff like Batman and Robin promoted a gay lifestyle (I’ll give it to him, those early Batman comics were pretty gay), Wonder Woman was a bad role model for girls (they weren’t supposed to want to be like her, because WW was independent and badass and stuff), and Superman made people believe physics didn’t matter.
He was wrong on many counts, of course, because, as said before, every kid was reading comics, and those who came from stable families didn’t turn to crime.
He eventually made such a noise that a senate subcommittee was set up to discuss whether comics were bad or not.
The side against comics was represented by Wertham, a charismatic professional. The side for comics was represented by the business heads of the comic publishers, who had no idea about the content of their publications. Because it just cannot go wrong, right?
(Except for William Gaines, the head of EC Comics, who said at the hearing that a cover featuring a severed head is in good taste for a horror comic. Not the best response in the given situation.)
In the end, the committee decided that there was little credibility in Wertham’s claims, but comics still might be a problem, so the industry should regulate itself.
So they formed the Comics Code Authority (CCA) as a self-censorship body for comics
They issues an editorial guideline that said stuff like good always has to win, authority figures cannot be shown in a bad light, crime cannot be shown, words like terror or horror cannot be shown on the cover, no monsters, no indecent clothes, etc.
If anyone wanted to publish a comic, they had to submit it to the CCA, and it decided if it was okay by the guidelines or it. If it was, it got a stamp—the seal of approval—on the cover.
The seal had no legal standing, but there was an agreement with the wholesalers that they would only carry comics with the seal.
On the short term, this led to the bankruptcy is a lot of publishers. It basically killed off the horror genre. On the long run, it created a market vacuum, that was filled in by a new wave of superhero titles (the Silver Age is coming, baby!), and also helped to establish the underground comix movement.
The CCA had a huge effect on the industry for decades, but it started to lose its power by the 70s. By the 90s, only four companies were in it. On of those, Harvey, went bankrupt in the 90s. Marvel left in 2001. DC, and finally Archie, in 2011.

SEBASTIAN “SEB” KATSAROS —
IG bio/info: @/s3bgl00m | 17.4k followers | i hate it here. i hate my username name too. Listen to my podcast wth my mate here...open.Spotify.com/podcast/?!.doomngloom
28 years of age
Born & raised in Liverpool, England...don’t ask if he’s met the Beatles he will completely ignore you if you do
Music shop owner in the heart of town
It’s called, “Kicking Kettles”
loves collecting vinyls, cassette tapes, & cds sorry, what did you expect?
His mother is a children’s illustrator
She’s Ashkenazi Jewish
His father is a graphic designer
And is from Nafplio, Greece
They’ve been separated for about a year now, with seb’s father living in France
His mother was skeptical on dating around while she was in a place of uncertainty in her marriage but with a deep discussion with her husband, then her children, she slowly went forward just to see what was out there & found that she wasn’t sure if she’d be open permanently with other beings
Seb was similar to his mother in many ways...
Has a older sister by 2 years named, Xenia...she’s very bossy, a busy-body, & is very vocal. The opposite of seb
she used to beat up guys just for them to turn around and ask her out on dates, a few of them tried to bully seb but Xenia was not having that ofc
very close to his family, even if things are a little off between mum & dad
I feel like he went through a buzzed hair phase & when he finally made the choice to start growing out his hair, going on 4-5 years now, everyone seemed to approve
Even if they didn’t? It be no matter, sure he’d feel a little awkward if someone he cared about didn’t like it but he was sure they would get over it OR get used to it
The hair only comes out when he’s showering or going to bed
His best friend who’s a barber (and a bit of a douche) tells him he’s got to let his hair breathe more often or he’ll have breakage, seb doesn’t think it’s that serious? He’s not sure how much longer he’ll keep the bun now anyways...
This same friend encouraged him to get a “Pompadour” haircut & seb’s never been so offended before in his life, “I wouldn’t want to look like the rest of you knob-heads.”
Anyways, he takes care of his hair the best way he knows how and it seems to work for him...some slightly expensive haircare products here and there & a trimmer & he’s good to go
When he first started growing his hair out, he felt like he needed to go to the salon to know how to manage it. After awhile he learned how to do it on his own + you save $ that way
uses his hands to talk or holds one hand in the other when having a conversation since he doesn’t know what to do with his hands exactly
He’s a chapstick kinda guy who always loses his before he can finish it (been there)
Absolutely loves Japanese food and eats it almost everyday
Japanese Mayo is the superior condiment, bill can stfu!!
probably watches anime
owns a bunch of vans, beanies, and hoodies
smokes hookah every now & then but isn’t too crazy about it
canon: catlover! I feel like he would have a Sphynx, Abyssinian, Ocicat, or oriental shorthair + was over the moon when his baby had babies !!!
He wanted to keep all 5 of the kittens but knew he probably couldn’t, at least not forever but he was going to wait until they were all at least a few months before he decided to put them up for adoption...which sucks but would ultimately be the best choice, maybe???
tried eyeliner again outside of the villa & finds pencil or pomade is better than the standard liquid liner
likes black nail polish but is slightly embarrassed to be seen out with it, it’s the same thing with the eyeliner...he’s not that confident
the guy is a huge blusher & he despises the fact that his face betrays him 80% of the time
often gets nosebleeds
loves red wine especially if it’s on a rainy day and he’s home to fully enjoy it, he feels like he’s on his grown man shit when he does so
I feel like he’d be a fan of the umbrella academy & thinks it’s way better than stranger things...him & nick have argued over this on doom n gloom!
Five is his favorite
Everything he owns is in either black, red, gray/grey, or green
His main phobia is emetophobia (fear of v*mit) & he won’t share why, that’s just what it is
Introvert!
Canon: he’s not a Aquarius
So wtf r ya? Nick & I would like to know plz
Virgo sun? + Taurus moon? + Pisces rising?
I feel like he’s one of those people that feels the need to bring a backpack with him everywhere and you can imagine it to be black ofc
“Who tf are you Linus? But with a backpack?” His sister often jokes (I do this with my sibs, both of them love carrying backpacks. Me on the other hand? I don’t have time for the shit)
He drives a shitty car from the 90s that’s Engine sounds as if it’s about to blow
but 100% perfers to drive his moped, Atticus around
played football (soccer) growing up to help get rid of his asthma
Cannot sleep with the tv on or any form of light around him, it has to be completely dark & quiet!
He’ll only do so if it’s with Genevieve since you know they’re trying this whole long distance thing out
Are one of those couples that will fall asleep on the phone/cpu together
Genevieve might be the, “no you hang up first” & seb will actually hang up the phone and get into bed lmao
Just for vieve to call back like?!! “I can’t believe you’ve done this!
“Well you said—
“Never mind what I said, sebz!!! It’s extremely rude...”
his last relationship before Genevieve lasted 6-8 months (there was a time when he felt like he was unsure if he was still in a couple with that person, isn’t that a shame?)
his love language is acts of service, he’ll do things for you to ease your worries out of love and not obligation so that you feel valued as his partner & I believe he wants this in return as well
I think he’s a bit of a worry wart too when it comes to certain things even if his exterior might show him trying to hide it
He was super nervous to get his first tattoo on his chest, “if words fail, music speaks” but he found that the slight pain was worth it? And quite nice! then he kept going back monthly and soon enough his arms were completely covered
mum hated it, her baby boy was becoming a man! (It’s not like he’s almost 30 but you know how moms are)
Deff has a collection of silver rings, he’s tried out necklaces but he thinks he looks better with his rings
The slit in his brow came from trying to squeeze thru the broken patio glass door with his sis as if it were some booby trap (not exactly, but a safety hazard forsure!) & a piece of glass fell from above slicing his brow and left him with 4 stitches
Secretly into watching those dating shows before and after experiencing it himself
people he enjoyed seeing on the Telly from previous seasons: jen, jake, talia, erikah, lottie, Noah, Carl, Kassam, Priya, & Hannah
AJ is his best girl friend (besides vieve) they FaceTime quite a bit & chat shit to each other on the daily
Feels like she fits in well with his friend group, which just contains his barber friend — they put up with his banter & give it right back to him but he can also be vulnerable & comfortable with those around him so that’s always a plus
It’s the same with nick, except they share a hobby together, their podcast & that’s what seb wants to keep it as, a hobby, for fun & giggles yet nick is thinking about getting paid for what they do. He thinks it’s a great idea whereas seb doesn’t want this to turn into a career/chore
He’s perfectly happy at kicking kettles
He feels strongly about his stance while nick is on both sides
They’ll figure it out, soon.
How are things outside of the villa & since the boat party? They all have a group chat that they randomly speak up in, in the beginning they would do morning and goodnight texts but that became tedious so they settled for either or. Or simply just checking in to see how each other’s days went with seb secretly being the most curious to everyone’s days
Things are awkward between him and Yasmin, he kinda avoids talking to her tbh & not because he doesn’t want to...its just yeah it’s not the same with him and aj where they can easily move forward, it feels like pulling teeth with Yasmin since they’re some what similar & it seems like she’s waiting on him to take the lead on fixing some imagined issue they have with each other? It’s weird idk
Lives in a cramped studio apartment, it works for him so he doesn’t need any inputs thank you
celeb crushes? Demi lovato, Hwasa, Amanda Seyfried, & Birgundi Angel Baker
as for music? Sleeping with sirens, pierce the veil, teagan & Sara, the pierces, panic!at the disco, all time low, twenty one pilots, x-ambassadors, awolnation, jon bellion— listen when atl dropped? Seb felt like he was reborn okay?! , Japanese breakfast, & great grandpa
Anthem = The Postal Service, “Such great heights”

watergator monthly book club! march edition 📚
welcome to the first monthly “book club” post! i mentioned i wanted to do this a little while ago but for anyone that didn’t see my previous posts, a little catch up on what this is: basically every month i’m gonna be making a list of what books i’ve read that month with a (somewhat) spoiler-free review, and anyone that wants to talk about what books they’ve read, or wants to give recommendations is free to do so! or if you read the same books as me, i’d love to hear what you thought of them!
so here’s my list for books read in march (only half of march though) under the cut:
Superman: Secret Identity Vol 1-4 by Kurt Busiek
Pages: 192
Rating: 8/10
the story of this version of clark kent was really interesting to read, as someone who is slightly unfamiliar with the story of superman, this ‘alternate universe’ interpretation was easy to understand and fun to read. the characters were interesting and real feeling, and i liked the fact that this story seemed to focus more on the character of clark kent rather than a story primarily focused on superheros and action. it felt more down to earth to see that side of this character. if you enjoy superheros and graphic novels you’ll like this story. if you enjoy interesting characters that have you feeling connected in just a short amount of pages, you’ll love it.
--
SHIVER: Selected Stories by Junji Ito
Pages: 393
Rating: 8/10
these short horror stories were fun to read as well as scary and entertaining. the illustrations were well done and the stories were creative and a lot different to the scary stories i’ve read before. i really enjoyed this collection of stories that had me excited to turn each page to see what happened next. not only are these scary but also really creative in ways that made me wonder how someone could come up with stories such as these. makes me really want to write more horror with these short stories as an inspiration. the artwork is also incredible.
--
Cujo by Stephen King
Pages: 393
Rating: 9/10
i really enjoyed the thrill of this story, and how it kept me on the edge of my seat with every turn of the page. i hadn’t expected that ending, and whilst the story wasn’t too scary, the terror and the bad timings of each character was really interesting to read. i’d give this book a full rating if it hadn’t been for the slightly long winded filler. whilst i did enjoy the stark contrast of horror with the real world problems that grounded the story, sometimes it dragged a little, and for not a whole lot of pay off in the end. overall, one of my favourite horror novels yet.
--
Little Women by Louisa May Alcott
Pages: 585
Rating: 9.5/10
i really loved this book. The characters were so vivid and real, and i enjoyed the journey in which the characters are taken on throughout the book. It feels like i know the girls, that they are my friends, and that i have grown with them whilst reading their stories. it’s a long read, and some parts aren’t as interesting as other parts, but it’s an enjoyable read nonetheless, and i loved to indulge myself in their world when transported through the chapters. despite this being quite a long read, i almost wished it had gone on longer, just so i had more time to spend with these characters.
--
Don’t Breathe by Heleyne Hammersley
Pages: 266
Rating: 3/10
i was somewhat disappointed in this book. the description didn’t quite match the plot, however, i continued to read out of curiosity, but overall i didn’t really enjoy this as much as i thought i would have. the characters were all unlikeable, whether that was a conscious decision by the author i don’t know, but it made it hard to read when everyone on the page was irritating. this wasn’t as much of a thriller as it was a mystery. the plot twist at the end was drawn out way too long, and for not much payoff. i guess an idea is there, hence my rating being higher than the original 1 i gave it, but it could have been executed better.
--
Growing Pains by L Sherleen
Pages: 270
Rating: 8.5/10
i really enjoyed this book; the story and the characters were so well written and really interesting that i found myself feeling really invested in what was happening with everyone in each chapter. i like the way this writer gets into the characters head, it makes it fun to see their viewpoints on certain situations. i’d rate this book higher had it not been for a few issues. i didn’t like that there was a twist that one of the characters was underage whilst in a relationship with an adult. i think that it was super unnecessary to add that in, and there was no reason for it. i also feel like there was a few threads left loose. characters from the beginning kinda of fizzled out, and i would have liked to have seen those get some sort of ending, however, there is a sequel in the works so i give this a slight pass in hopes that those relationships are explored further. fun read, good characters and well written.

I love I am trying to write this cover letter for a next level job please help me I am still a student. What could I add to make it very edgy and artsy because I want to explain that I mixed sciences and communication for Marketing. And that I wanted to support women in the beauty industry
yo i never got an email about your message and i’m on mobile about 99% of the time so uhh SORRY about the extreme delay to my answering this. It’s probably much too late now lmao but I will still give it a shot with the disclaimer that I am not really the person to ask about this because I’ve worked in STEM and health sciences. Those areas don’t tend to like application materials to look very Edgy nor Artsy lmao
But I want to distill this down to the actual question which is: How do I, as a student with limited work experience, show 1) how my degree prepared me for this job; and 2) what my values/goals are?
The answer is similarly distillable: Choose your stories carefully.
A cover letter is just a series of very short stories about who you are, what you have done, and why you want to work at a place. So read the job description, and pick the stories where you think “Oh yeah, I’ve done that!” when you read the duties.
Think about stories from your life that can illustrate your passion for the beauty industry: what have you done in your extra-curriculars or even personal activities (e.g. running a blog with X number of followers) that can show how you applied what you learned towards your passions? Talk about projects you did in school or work that display how you mixed sciences and communication/marketing.
Some of this can be done in your introductory paragraph. I’ve altered the Cover Letter Of Destiny to illustrate:
I’m delighted to submit an application for the [Job you’re applying to] position at [Company].  After reading the job description I’m certain my background in both [whichever branch of science is most applicable/you did the most of] and [Communications/whatever it’s called on your transcript] will help me excel in this position. I’m particularly attracted to [the job, the company, whichever is truest] because I believe it will utilize the skills I have gained throughout my [education/extracurriculars, wherever your stories are gonna come from] and allow my to pursue my passion of [’supporting women in the beauty industry” -- a statement you should try to strengthen with specifics like What do you mean “support” and How do you like to do that?].
Then in the next few paragraphs is where you tell the stories I mentioned before. An example from my life would be “During my time at ____ School of Pharmacy, I volunteered monthly for ___, an organization which helps men recovering from addiction monitor and take control over their health. I took blood pressure and blood glucose readings, and took turns giving short presentations about different wellness topics. It helped me pursue my passion for health equity and helping underserved populations while fine-tuning my clinical skills.”
So that sounds amazing, right? Realistically it was kinda cool but mostly was just me pumping up a BP cuff approximately 40 times in an hour. You have permission to zuszh up your stories in the same way. Tell them the way your mom or grandma or whoever’s your biggest fan would to their book club.
Then, have someone else read it. Ideally, have someone else who works in the industry you’re trying to get into, or a closely related one, look at all of your application materials and give feedback. In this day and age it’s impossible to get in contact with hiring managers, especially for entry level jobs. But through school groups and professional organizations you can be connected with folks interested in mentoring people like you! So be brave and go for it. Best of luck to you!  I hope this giant essay helped you! or at least someone lmao.

MONTHLY MEDIA: July 2020
……….FILM……….
Tumblr media
Palm Springs (2020) I feel like there was a big marketing push for this movie at the start of the month and it totally worked. All the good buzz and fun artwork I saw relating to this was perfect and it was a fun time at the movies...at home.
Howl’s Moving Castle (2004) It’s been yeeeeears since I last watched this and it turns out I remembered next to nothing. The worldbuilding was fantastic and while I still can’t piece together how the aging/curse on Sophie, it just feels that much more magical. Absolutely going to pick up the book to see if I can get a more in-depth narrative.
……….TELEVISION……….
Tumblr media
What We Do In The Shadows (Episode 2.01 to 2.04) Hot dang this is continues to be a great series! I really hope Nadja’s doll sticks around for the whole season (or the rest of time) and it’s all just so fun!
Mad Men (Episode 4.07 to 4.11) Knowing there are 7 seasons really makes me feel like we’re in the middle of act 2. Things are getting real low for Don and I’m still baffled at the idea that anyone sees him as a role model/inspiration. It’s feeling bleak and I hope season 5 starts to point upwards again (not for Don but for everyone else).
Dear White People (Episode 1.01 to 2.10) So good! I don’t want to give too much away but what’s started out as a drama/comedy seems to be evolving into something else and I ready for it! I hope season 3 and 4 expand on what I hope it’s building.
……….READING……….
Tumblr media
Forever and a Day by Anthony Hororwitz (Complete) A really fun Bond prequel and I think this is going to start me off on reading the original Fleming novels! Filled with all the best tropes from the movies (and maybe the books? Time will tell) and it was such a light and fun read. It was the perfect birthday gift as I needed a beach read.
Tumblr media
Dracula by Bram Stoker (Complete) The pacing of this book is a good example of why I tend to prefer modern takes instead of the classics themselves. I appreciate what this book contributed to our collective consciousness, but the back drastically reduces the amount of vampire content in favour of Mina’s deteriorating health, the hunting party discussing their plans, and recounting an extensive travelogue.
The Haunted Mansion: Imagineering a Classic by Jason Surrell (Complete) I’ve always loved this ride so I was hoping to learn more about what’s happening with each illusion and effect. While I got sooooome of that, they clearly held back a bunch of secrets and I suppose I understand why. With that said, the history of the original ride’s development was super interesting! Same goes for how the attraction has evolved over the years and when moving to other parks.
Tumblr media
Delicious In Dungeon Vol. 8 by Ryoko Kui (Complete) Everything about this series, from the world to the characters, strikes a perfect balance (for me) between familiar and new. The monsters are typically based off of well-established mythology, but there’s usually enough of a twist that it feels more unique to this world. It’s excellent. And the same goes for the characters; at first glance they may look like simple tropes but the series consistently breaks them down or adds depth to inform why a character acts a certain way. Please go read this series.
Fun With Milk and Cheese by Evan Dorkin (Complete) This has the sort of confidence and frantic energy that it could only come out of the late nineties. Some of the stories work better than others, but I think that’s just my own taste.
Tumblr media
Dragonball 3-in-1 Volume 1 by Akira Toriyama (Complete) Decided to return and reread this series and I always forget how jarring some of the early stuff is (mostly around gender and Bulma)...I know it’s likely cultural or a product of being over 30 years old, so I won’t fault it too much.
The Perry Bible Fellowship Almanack by Nicholas Gurwitch (Complete) It’d been years since I’d read through most (if not all) of the PBF comics and I appreciate the variety of style even more now. Despite each comic being illustrated in a way that suits the narrative/joke/premise, it all still feels cohesive. It’s something I need to remind myself as I question if any of my own work is unified by anything. Also the insight into the abandoned and forgotten comics at the back of the book were so interesting to read! I love seeing how other creatives think.
Tumblr media
The Mushroom Fan Club by Elise Gravel (Complete) Very cute all-ages introduction to mushrooms! Illustrations are so fun and personable and it really encourages outdoor adventuring and wandering around in the woods (safely), so that gets an A+ from me.
Death Wins a Goldfish by Brian Rea (Complete) A wonderfully charming book about Death on vacation. The art is breezy and the light text was surprisingly funny. It was a good reminder to kinda just take a break and recharge, you know?
……….AUDIO……….
Tumblr media
Cuz I Love You by Lizzo (2019) After hearing Juice on a friend’s birthday playlist, I couldn’t NOT check this album out. It took me about three listens to really get into and it’s all great.
Bastionland Podcast - Tabletop Roleplaying Game Design (Podcast) If you’re interested in what goes on behind the curtain of game design (specifically tabletop role-playing games, but I think the principles and takeaways are fairly universal) then check this out.
……….GAMING……….
Tumblr media
Neverland: A Fantasy Role-Playing Setting (Andrews McMeel Publishing) The party has recovered a Mermaid’s prize coat and have a few other goals on the go, but most pressing is the weapon (an umbrella) of a Lich that they need to destroy in the lava flow of Neverland’s mountains (very Lord of the Rings). Also I’ve been doing more detailed write-ups on Reddit, if you’re into that sort of thing.
D&D Homebrew Adventure (Menace of Merlin) The group spent a session saying farewell to their undead minion (a yeti named Norm); role-playing games are fun.
And that’s it! As always, please feel free to send any recommendations my way and happy Friday!

Hi love your work you really inspire me💕 if it's not a bother do you have tips to start digital art and a app😖👉👈
hey there !!! im so sorry for the late reply, but im here now !! thank you so much for your kind words 🥺🥺🥺💖💖💖
tips for digital art! hoo boy, there is a lot to say, i don't think i'm gonna remember everything, but first of all; i know digital art can seem super overwhelming just because of how many options you got! you just can do so much to refine your work the way you wanna, but often art programs got so many tools and things to offer, it's just??? confusing.
what i'd recommend is to slowly work your way through it? you don't have to understand every thing right, just try out a few tools! that's what i did when i first started using clip studio paint. i just played around with the pens and brushes, so i could get a feeling for them as well as an idea on how they work. and usually, some programs offer official tutorials and guides themselves - if not, the internet is ur friend! take it easy, i'd say - i think that's smth that applies to several aspects of digital art.
in general though, there are plenty of digital art tutorials online, that suggest to you how you can draw smth - but ! don't feel like it's "the only right way". everyone has their own way of rendering illustrations or doing sketches, with which pencils or tools and all that.
furthermore, this also applies to the app/program question: you do not need any expensive drawing tablets or softwares. it doesn't have to be a brand like wacom with their fancy display tablets. there are plenty cheaper tablets out there, with no display but still plenty effective! hell, u can even use an ipad if u already got one. and if you're just starting out with digital art and testing the waters, i would avoid spending too much money on products you may end up not needing :(
other than that, make sure to stretch a lot, especially your wrists. god knows i don't do it as often as i should (which i genuinely regret), so please make sure to take frequent breaks to give your body a rest. not only will it help you avoid carpal tunnel syndrome, but it's also good for your eyes to take them away from the screen for a bit and come back to your work with a little fresher perspective! in general, don't feel like you have to finish the drawing in one go. it can be so helpful to take a break from the screen.
also !! try to get a hang of the shortcuts!! they're gonna be SUCH a great help, i promise you. every art program has different shortcuts settings, but you can always customize them to your liking. i'd also try to get an idea of how big your canvas should be and as what kind of file you should save your drawings. e.g. resizing a canvas that used to be large can make the drawing look more "pixel-ish", y'know? so keep that in mind while drawing! i usually work with 1500px to 2000px.
as for art programs: if you're on the pc, i'd wholeheartedly recommend clip studio paint and sai2 ! both cost money, but clip studio paint usually has sales that sell the program around 20 bucks (ur advantages are that it offers you plenty of tools that are a blessing if u want an anime-like art style, also offering u various patterns and tools, even some by the artist community! it has a whole shop, offering u free but also chargeable patterns, brushes and all that good jazz) and sai2 is a classic and relatively easy to understand program, really (which u can easily pirate if u rlly can't afford it, but u didn't hear that from me).
if ur on the ipad: i know procreate is the way to go ! i tried it out myself several times and it was so much fun!
on the phone? i heard ibis should be rlly good, i know plenty of moots and friends are using it!
personally though, i'd recommend you to stay away from adobe/photoshop. in my experience it's kinda hard to get the hang of it, if ur inexperienced with digital art + the monthly fees ain't worth it.
i hope i was able to answer your question! if you wanna know more, feel free to hit me up, i hope i didn't entirely miss what u wanted to hear 🥺 happy drawing and good luck!!! 💖

MONTHLY RANGE : Eight & Charley & C’rizz (1/2)
Scherzo -  2.5/5 : So... I really don't know how to rate it. Because I recognise the brilliance of the thing (excellent way of using the audio medium, the sound creature was brilliantly creepy and the atmosphere is so cringy but in a good way? Also Paul McGann and India Fisher are excellent and they do have good chemistry together). But I'm not a fan of Eight/Charley so this was kinda … annoying? I liked how the Doctor/companion relationship is explored and I like the fact that companions are memento mori (a nicer way of saying "pets", the Master gets it) but I really hated the idea that Charley was the first one the Doctor really loved (lol no) because like Rose and Clara, Charley is supposed to be """special""" (the difference being that Rose and Clara actually believe that they are special, it's not the case for Charley which is why I don't hate her with all my guts like the other two) in her relationship to the Doctor. Each and every companion has a special relationship with the Doctor, no one is special and the Doctor (whatever the incarnation) loves them all. Period. So yeah, having them mopping for two hours about "You said you loved me, you didn't mean it", "But I love you", "No, I don't love but actually I do, I'm just trying to protect you." was annoying. Just say you love each other, kiss or whatever and move on, but don't linger on it for THREE episodes, thank you very much. And then in the last part, the Doctor admits that he loves all his companions, so yeah great, but what was the point of saying that Charley was the first one half an hour before except pissing me off greatly? Despite all this, this was still a good illustration of my Eight-treats-his-companions-like-shit thesis. (Also, forgot to mention, Eight at the beginning whining about loses his senses … annoyingly brillant and sent me huge Eleven vibes). So yeah, I love some of it and hate other bits, so I guess I'll settle for something in the middle, rating-wise.
The Creed of the Kromon -  2/5 : It was going well pretty much until the end first part. Then it became a huge disappointment. We have two female characters, Charley and L'da, and they're both reduced to being reproductive tools for the Big Bad Bugs of the week and despite saving L'da being C'rizz motivation from the beginning, he just shoots her when he finds her without even considering trying something else to help her, I mean it's not like she begged that bad. And then he's ready to do the same to Charley. Great. Way to go. I hope this trigger-happy tendency will be corrected soon because I do find him an interesting character - I mean he's rough around the edges but there's way for amazing character development so please don't screw this up. The chameleon concept is also great (and wouldn't work on visual medium, let's be honest). Consider me hooked up for the Kro'ka/C'rizz arc (which I don't remember at all btw so that will be like listening to it for the first time). Also, I have to add that Eight's laugh in this episode cleared my skin, watered my crops and all of this. Also! I’m glad to have a Doctor + two companions dynamic, I really love it
The Natural History of Fear -  4/5 : So this was weird. I mean most of Eight's adventures in the main range are weird but this is another level of weird. Like they're really taking meta to the next stage. I don't have much else to say to be honest, except that it was difficult to follow at times but that I obviously loved the 1984 vibes. THIS IS THE VOICE OF LIGHT CITY. WELCOME TO YOUR NEW WORK DAY. TODAY IS HIGH PRODUCTIVITY DAY. Also that end twist *shocked*
The Twilight Kingdom -  2.5/5 : That's not particularly memorable. It really struggles to keep us hooked up for two hours and it didn't really work for me : I've lost interest and let my mind drifted several times and I was still able-ish to understand what was going on. That's not a good sign, people. The interesting bit was at the end with the return of the Kro'ka and how the mystery thickens about this weird place. Also Eight yelling "RASSILLON" at the end … someone's mad at daddy. We get to know a bit more about C'rizz which is always good to take since last episode didn't offer us any insight on his person at all. There's something definitely shifty and not coherent at all about him, like he's supposed to be a pacifist monk and yet, he's a pretty violent lad (I mean, this episode doesn't really count, he was controlled, but in the Creed of the Kromon he's not particularly gentle), which he acknowledges himself (I mean it could just be that being enslaved by the Kromon changed the man that drastically, but still...)
Faith Stealer -  3.5/5 : Ah! Finally we learn a bit more about C'rizz and we address what the hell happened in the Creed of the Kromon. Although, did he just get brainwashed into getting rid of his guilt, just like that? Because if that's the case, I'm gonna be very disappointed. I mean, I don't want him to suffer or anything but it all seemed a bit easy. Also, yeah, poor C'rizz, easily manipulated and preyed on by pretty much anyone is this freaking universe - can anyone give him a break for a second please? (also, is strangling Charley going to be a recurring thing or what? Because that is NOT ok, writers, no matter how much Charley jokes about it afterwards). Anyway, the plot was ok, the multihaven (or whatever the name of this place was, I don't remember) is an interesting concept (even more relevant today) and I really liked the idea that it's completely ok for anyone to worship literally anything without judgement.
The Last - 3/5 : Excelsior used a nuclear weapon to end a never-ending war and killed most of her people in the process? Excuse me? The unpredicted parallel with the Doctor and the Time War is up the roof people. And so I can't help thinking that this story would have been much better in a shorter version with a post Time War Doctor (can you see this with Nine, Rose and Jack? Because I definitely can and I'm not ok). Anyway. Charley doesn't get strangled this time but choked with a pillow. I don't know, do the writers have a kink about strangling/choking/killing women? And her death was the least credible possible with the Doctor moving on from it like twenty seconds after and absolutely not going into huge drama/self pity/extreme guilt mode, so you know she won't stay dead very long. I liked C'rizz very much here, he's actually growing on me much more than Charley. I like his loyalty and the fact that he has a much darker side, when it's actually well exploited.
Caerdroia - 5/5 : gfvbvgttybvgf THREE EIGHTS THREE EIGHTS T H R E E  E I G H T S it's more than I can take. Hmm. So, i love the first part where the Doctor takes a nap (he deserves it) and sass the Kro'ka into telling him where the TARDIS is. I love him. Then we gets three versions of Eight and that's when I completely lost it. I also quite liked the crazy vibe of this episode, which felt a bit like Alice in Wonderland (again). The labyrinth part (or is it a maze??) was quite well done and the fact that it feeds off the Doctor, Charley and C'rizz subconscious was a nice to get to know them a bit more (especially C'rizz, whose annoyance with Tigger!Eight was very relatable). Charley and Eeyore!Eight was also priceless to be honest. And finally, finally, we get the TARDIS back and yeeeah! Also the Kro'ka is a frog vbyvegbvfy I can't
The Next Life - 2/5 : Excuse me but did this thing need to be that sexist? I mean... even Eight was a bit borderline a couple of times. I hated Charley in this episode, I hated how quick she was to judge C'rizz and how jealous she is throughout this audio when she's never really struck me as being jealous, especially not of C'rizz of all people. And it's a shame, really, because I was starting to think that maybe, she was getting less annoying. And most of all I HATED how her interactions with Perfection were depicted, how they bicker about the Doctor and, like, I get that it makes sense with Perfection being Zagreus and all, but it was very poorly brought, and ... just no. Also Perfection's relationship with Kip ... brrrr. Again, no. The plot in itself was not particularly memorable. It ends the Divergent Universe arc properly, the idea of this universe being in a constant cycle was kinda interesting and made sense with everything we had learnt so far so that's that. It was also nice to get to know more about C'rizz and I really like him more than Charley, and I hope he'll have a proper chance to find out who he is now. I'm definitely disappointed with this audio, it was way too long and problematic. (Just kudos for the Grace reference ... and it's made me miss Grace so I might rewatch the movie as a treat)
Overall opinion : Well I’m glad this is over. The Divergent Universe was an interesting concept but the quality of the episodes overall wasn’t very good and the way women are treated/depicted here is just a big NO. Big kudos for Caerdroia which was a nice surprise. The Natural History of Fear and Faith Stealer are good too, not as much though, and the rest, I’ll probably forget very soon, just like I did the first time. The only good thing to come out of this is my boy C’rizz

howdy everyone! first monthly update for drgag, but first, thank you all so much for the support thusfar! im crying guys
lets get into it !
november’s been a bit of a hectic month due to the end of my schools semester rounding the corner along with the general chaotic energy of this time of the year, but without further ado!
main takeaways from this month of work has been
-loads of sprites! except. i realized pretty late in the process that i was making them in a very inefficient way and taking like. way longer on each one than i needed to because of this . like
for anyone making fangans as well its really a learning process and mass producing sprites and shit is a PROCESS. but i feel like the easiest way ive found to make different poses nd shit quicker is to like. LABEL my folders . when i make eyes that i know are gonna change i go in and make a folder where ill put all that. and then when it comes to bodies which i didnt think too hard about at first, especially when it comes to arms... like the best thing i think thats streamlined has been to just draw the whole ass torso and render it and THEN add arms to that, rather than drawing the arms and coloring the arms on the same damn layer as everything else... whereas you have to select the arms and then make a new layer and go BACK and recolor the torso bc u fucked up like... yeah....
ive mostly worked on kimiko and itsuki so far because i just love conveying their personalities a lot through their sprites, gonna post a few of my favs-
Tumblr media
crackheads. i also made emi sprites but my clip studio file got corrupted? i have to fix that shit msldfkjdf add this to my to do list siri please smflksdf ...ok moving on
-splash art coming along slowly but steadily... will get there eventually its kinda just farther down on my list of priorities rn lol heres a kimiko wip tho
Tumblr media
-writing!!! i revised . i HARDCORE revised how i decided to open the game like. shit. fuck. i just had a thought while i was watching nichijou one day and shit i just. damn. i dont wanna say anything bc im like so fucking excited about it but basically it calls for about 30 more scene cgs that i had not prior planned so ive been. grinding so much to try and get those illustrated mkanhuyfysoif but yeah!! i rewrote the whole ass introduction to the prologue god bless . the prologues all done written now but ofc im probs gonna go over it like 60 more times lmao
in other parts of writing i finished about half of the first and third trials, and most of chapter 1′s writing overall... we rlly out here gettin that bread bruh
with writing i guess the biggest thing is like. i have a fuckton of gaps where i just need to put like. the In Between shit mlksdfjiusdf lmao but yeahg. we out here
-programming shit!!! god i . worked on implementing UI into unity and holy shit it was all on fire my pain is immeasurable im not a fucking compsci major fmlkjasuhf98asdofp my compsci major friend was looking over my shoulder the whole time and shaking his head njhysuadgf8sduoifjkdsf but like. basically i figured how to put some basic text box shit up in unity but ive mostly just been grinding away at practicing related C# shit in order to get my life together. also ive been throwing around a lot of UI ideas like
Tumblr media
i dont fucking know. i think im gonna have the whole student handbook on the side of it with shortcuts? at least the transcript, save, load, etc commands on the right side of it... also im thinking of making it much more minimalist than how the DR dialogue boxes are usually bc usually theyre like. largely flashy but yknow i . i dont know i just really like how minimalistic UI looks but i may or may not change my mind on this. god skdfjlsdkf
-here have whatever the fuck this is
Tumblr media
god okay this got lengthy real quick so imma scuttl away now until next time... thanks yall again for your support!!!! i have some breaks from school soon so hopefully i can like. get a lot more stuff done especially w my sprite epiphanies lmao mlsfkjsdf
goodnight!!
-annie
art up there without text:
