seized by the Demon of Productivity that sometimes possesses me (but only ever after 9pm), I spent the evening sorting my yarn stash and wow, I have some great stuff in there?? wish I knew what I'd been planning to do with it...

Pride pressies
If you’ve been here long enough you may remember last year’s gaylien invasion
Tumblr media
I made two spiderweb shawls and then used the leftover yarn to create these adorable little things, confusing 11 lonely-looking queer people at Nottingham pride into smiling. 😁 (one tiny autistic 12 year old ranted at me for six minutes about how much I’d made her day 🥹)
I’m back on my bullshit!
Tumblr media
They are uglier and much larger because I have red heart super saver yarn available, and it is hurting my fingers but #6 is well under way. I’m a ball and a half in, with a ball and a half to go. There is no way that will last me to July.
(I’m hoping they’ll be cuter when I’ve made them eyes…)
With that in mind, I’m posting my Ko-fi link - the King Cole Riot yarn (Carnival colour way) used above was about a fiver a ball last time I bought it, and a ball made at least seven gayliens iirc so if you have a quid to spare you are very welcome to contribute to the gentle befuddlement of Nottingham queers 💜🏳️‍🌈🏳️‍⚧️🏴‍☠️

here’s a few random thoughts about the Mayans premiere:
- first of all, how long since the season 4 finale has it been now at the beginning? I was under the impression it’s been 8 months to a year or something like it, but a few things don’t add up. like, why is Hank still limping? he was shot in the knee in the season 4 premiere, how long has it been? and why is Nestor still a prospect when they already have a new one? did I miss where they mentioned any sort of time frame?
- I would have loved to see the moment Emily comes back home to Miguel and how that “reunion” went. I want to see more of their house, it’s not the same one they lived in before they fled, is it?
- I also want to know how the rest of Miguel and Felipe’s conversation in the (former) butcher shop went, what exactly did Felipe tell, how much of the truth is actually out there now?
- the guy Miguel and Soledad had lunch(?) with talked about how Miguel’s father was a puppet for the government and for a second there I forgot the guy meant José and Soledad looked at Miguel like she knew. also, the way the guy ate visibly disgusted Miguel. and honestly, I wouldn’t have needed that close-up of it either, lol.
- when Felipe and Adelita were talking about telling Angel the truth, did they mean that Adelita is secretly working for the cartel as, idk, a hit woman? or did they mean that Felipe worked with Adelita’s father and knew him well? how would either of those secrets affect their relationship?
- the new Santo Padre guy, Guero, Ibarra’s son, is pretty damn cute, I hope he lives through the season. the cute ones usually never do... rest in peace, Manny.
- and Guero was right about that all female club, the Broken Saints. they’re hot. I’d watch that spin off.
- does Sofia not work at the animal shelter anymore, why’s she at EZ’s place every free minute of the day? she does have a nice singing voice btw.
- what big and dangerous thing is Louie planning to help Letty and Hope get those 13k dollars?
- I’m torn about Alvarez and Izzy having a baby on the way, but TPTB probably didn’t have much of a choice since Patricia was pregnant in real life. I like her so much btw. also Marcus, yell at Santi like that again and I’m personally coming for your ass. let him try on your kutte, it’s only sitting there collecting dust anyway.
- what did that DOJ accountant guy discover in those numbers he calculated? my guess is it has something to do with EZ’s record disappearing from the system, since Potter deleted it in exchange for KJ’s hit. let’s also remember real quick that during that hit not only KJ got killed but Bowen as well, and Potter can still use that as leverage against EZ and Angel. maybe that is what Potter has over Adelita? and even if he’s not a rat anymore, with that it would make EZ still look really good for it now and give the club a reason to finally riot.
- with Cole now being Soledad’s main supplier, my guess for who burnt down the warehouse shifted from Angel to him, and everything carefully masterminded by Potter. wouldn’t it be insane if he’s not with the government anymore at all but has become a king pin and in one strike took over the entire pipeline, while the Mayans and the Sons take each other out of the game on their own?
- generally I liked that there were a lot of funny moments again. we didn’t have jokes and humor in 2 seasons, this season feels like 1 and 2 again, the plot is still heavy and brutal but a lot less depressing. if that makes sense.
some of that sounds dumb, I’m aware, but I’m putting it out there anyway. let’s hear your thoughts.

Vision (Daemon Targaryen)
Flufftober Day 25
Tumblr media
TAGS: Daemon/Dragoness!Reader
He is three and twenty when his brother finally allows him to annul his fruitless marriage to Rhea Royce. The shackles of matrimony had left him hungry and wanting for warm flesh when his former wife was as cold and hard as stone, laying nearly as still as death during their wedding night.
It’s no surprise that he takes off on Caraxes after being twice-bested by Ser Criston Cole in the melee and joust, leaving him with no further reason to stay as he set off for the pillow houses of Lys.
For where better to stoke the embers of his youth that had dwindled beneath the oppression of his bronze bitch?
Caraxes lands at a field far enough from Lovely Lys (so as not to cause any panic and incite a riot), and as Daemon slips off the hulking back of his mount, his Targaryen-amethyst orbs catch sight of something just a small distance away.
Upon a shock of ivory tresses sat a crown of wildflowers, from colors such as cornflower blue to dandelion yellow, it all contrasted yet complemented the snowy strands.
He feels his heart lodge itself in his throat as he’s beholden to a fair maid of obvious Valyrian heritage, but it is not her blood that stokes the fire within his. Rather, simply being graced with her mere visage is enough for visions of silvery-white-haired babes to dance within his head.
And for the first time ever since he dreamed of one day securing the Iron Throne for himself, he did not see a king’s crown upon his brow but instead a crown of flowers.
Daemon takes his first steps, eager to know you and perhaps what sorcery you cast that had bewitched him so swiftly and easily that he can no longer even think back on the time before he knew of your existence.
When he is at a fair distance, he takes note of the wondrous gold that shines within the depths of your eyes and the pale white lush crescents that surround them and kiss your cheeks every time you blink. He feels like a madman so consumed with the need to hear your voice, to know your name, and to have your gaze solely on himself.
But then a large shadow appeared, and the sound of a mighty wingbeat snapped him out of his daze, head snapping up towards the source only to find coal-black scales and menacing green eyes rapidly descended.
Dread filled the Targaryen prince as his instincts had him tackling you away from where he perceived to be the Cannibal’s target. He has no time to relish the softness of your skin and body beneath his, not when the instinct to survive overridden all other thought processes.
Caraxes won’t be able to reach them in time, so he would have to distract the infamous Cannibal somehow until his own mount reached them. His sword hand instinctively gripped Dark Sister as the earth rumbled with the wild dragon’s footsteps as it landed.
“ Don’t. ”
It’s the first time he hears your voice, and it is as soft and melodic as he expected it to be. What he didn’t expect was for you to push him away gently with a hand so small and dainty that he could crush it in his own if he wanted.
But then you stand up, dusting off blades of grass that stuck to your odd but fine garments before walking straight toward the lumbering Cannibal.
“My lady—” Daemon’s plea dies down as he watches you place your hand upon the wild dragon’s snout, giving it a rub and then moving downwards to scratch at his chin.
Everything the prince knew about dragons, especially the Cannibal of all dragons, is thrown straight into the Narrow Sea as the creature’s tail…wags and thumps against the ground. For something as big as the Cannibal, its movements caused small tremors across the small clearing.
“He’s a good boy. He’s not going to hurt anyone.”
Daemon is completely and absolutely stumped.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
King’s Landing only receives a missive from Prince Daemon of his apparent nuptials all the way in Lys. The court learns that he’d found another descendant of Old Valyria, a maiden from Aurion’s line who’d conquered Lys, burned its magisters and slavers, and released its slaves.
However, word across the Narrow Sea arrives not long after that verifies the prince’s claims. The pair had settled into the grandest manse within the city, which now no longer relied on the selling and trading of flesh. The lady had seen to it that it would become a fully mercantile city-state, providing education to all, regardless of their backgrounds.
Former slaves and courtesans were also given a craft to learn and trade with, allowing them to acclimate as normal citizens of Lys, free to live their lives as they saw fit.
The news is both frightening and awing to hear.
Lys’ growing success and the union of Prince Daemon and his Valyrian conqueror wife alarmed much of the Small Council, particularly Lord Hightower. At his urging, Viserys I commanded his brother to return at once.
However, his command would not be heeded until 105 AC, when Lady Lucifiel would inevitably save the life of Queen Aemma and the newborn Prince Baelon.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
“Can’t you stay for longer?”
“We would love to stay longer, but if we do Lys might not be standing by the time we return. You know those Essosi, always trying to one-up each other and grabbing someone else’s territory when they already have a perfectly good city already. Honestly, if they keep knocking at our doors so frequently, we might as well conquer the rest of them just to get all the cities to get along. It’s like trying to play peacemaker with a bunch of children if you ask me…”
“Let’s save any talk of conquering the other city-states when we get back home, at the very least, my darling flower. Lest we spook the court any more than we already have when your lumbering beast decided to make its surprise grand entrance in front of the whole court.”
“Abraxas has never had venison or wild boar, so you can’t blame him for being a little bit curious over all the fuss that was happening during the hunt.”
Rhaenyra looked back and forth between her uncle and good aunt, stars practically shining in her eyes at all the words that spilled from your lips. Baby Endaemion babbled and clapped as he looked over at his older cousin, comfortable and very happy as you held him in your arms.
There’s truly nothing like the warmth of family.

Another ask I got from a person I just decided to block (but will continue to "answer" for the sake of deliberation):
Not everything can be written away with the “propaganda excuse”. Rhaenyra was as AWFUL as those books portray.
Someone was putting smallfolk heads on spikes and squeezing the peasantry for additional funds after she took King’s Landing, and it could have only be the one who was in the city issuing edicts: Rhaenyra herself. Her lavish spectacle to name Joffrey as Prince of Dragonstone while the city was suffering from war and winter can’t be explained away as bias; there would be far too many witnesses to such an event. Manfryd Mooton and Corlys Velaryon betrayed their patron when the greens were losing, and it wasn’t just on a lark, Rhaenyra’s death sentence on Addam Velaryon and Nettles were matters of public record. The Princess and the Queen pretty much spells out the minutes of the Small Council meeting where it happened, so it can’t be explained away as the Mootons attempting to cover their own behinds and paint themselves as forced into turning by evil Rhaenyra. The narrative of Blood and Cheese presented in The Princess and the Queen supports Rhaenyra signing off on the murder (or at least knowing beforehand and consciously not ordering him against it), and even if that’s propaganda, it fell to Rhaenyra to punish Daemon for murdering a noncombatant and child just as surely as it fell on Aegon II to punish Aemond for attacking and murdering a noncombatant envoy. The fact that neither one of them did speaks volumes about them.
The smallfolk of King’s Landing didn’t riot for no reason either (granted, they were also influenced by the Shepherd), we see this in the original novels. Tyrion was falsely blamed for some of Joffrey’s actions in ACOK, but the street preacher is not basing his argument on nothing: Joffrey does shoot random peasants dead with his crossbow and mockingly permits the rest to eat the dead, the High Septon is gluttonous while the peasants starve, the upper crust is venal and corrupt. Rhaenyra’s regime and policies are sparking the same arguments, and the responsibility for all that falls on Rhaenyra herself. She’s the one who’s wasting food in a time of want on a party, she’s the one who is squeezing more and more taxes out of the peasantry, she’s the one constantly accusing everyone of treason regardless of proof, guilt or innocence. She’s the only one in power at King’s Landing, and so the buck ultimately stops with her.
Even if you take an extreme and delusional step and say that every single negative word written about Rhaenyra is untrue slander, how then, did those events happen? Because they clearly did and they can’t be easily explained away as unrelated. Aegon II and Larys Strong were in Dragonstone, Aemond was in the field, Alicent was imprisoned, Criston Cole was long dead, so they can’t be false flag ops, and the riots directed against the regime meant that the smallfolk held them responsible for the cause. Nettles and Addam Velaryon didn’t have phony death sentences.
And yet when others try to express that Rhaenyra was an awful person, I find reasons how she either was provoked unfairly or how those arguers just flat out lie about what she did versus what others did.
*EDIT*: 3/27/24: all of this is not about Nettles, bc that is where I'd say that Rhaenyra deserved her fate. Plus this ask was mostly not abt Nettles.
A)
I already addressed the executions, the party after taking KL, taxes, her progression into paranoia being more from her loss of sons (of which no one can ever criticize her for, at least reliably bc unless they are themselves a parent what cred do they have to deny that a caring parent shouldn't be destroyed with back to back child losses?), etc. HERE...along with all the posts that that post links to.
B)
Them: " Manfryd Mooton and Corlys Velaryon betrayed their patron when the greens were losing, and it wasn’t just on a lark, Rhaenyra’s death sentence on Addam Velaryon and Nettles were matters of public record. The Princess and the Queen pretty much spells out the minutes of the Small Council meeting where it happened, so it can’t be explained away as the Mootons attempting to cover their own behinds and paint themselves as forced into turning by evil Rhaenyra."
AND
"Even if you take an extreme and delusional step and say that every single negative word written about Rhaenyra is untrue slander, how then, did those events happen? Because they clearly did and they can’t be easily explained away as unrelated. Aegon II and Larys Strong were in Dragonstone, Aemond was in the field, Alicent was imprisoned, Criston Cole was long dead, so they can’t be false flag ops, and the riots directed against the regime meant that the smallfolk held them responsible for the cause. Nettles and Addam Velaryon didn’t have phony death sentences."
Okay...so when did I refute these happened? When did I ever say that every single thing that the text said Rhaenyra did, from being born to her going after Nettles, were just fabrications? I said that many were either twisted tellings from misogynist ideas and how these people view how a woman should act because she is a woman.
When did I reject that Rhaenyra did these things? That was never my counterargument, this person was upset bc they couldn't fathom the actual argument I was making that flouted their own feelings. My actual CA was that the narrative clearly conveys that Rhaenyra's paranoia did not come from nowhere, was not totally unjustified, nor because she hadn't been instigated into defending her own political rights from more ambitious and greedy actors who should have seen her more as a family than a threat to their own patriarchal/patriarchally-granted rights/ties to political power.
And Fire and Blood's account of the Dance is basically the Princess and the Queen but with more/added information; it also gives us what happened with Corlys, Mooton, the dragon seeds, and the meeting where Rhaenyra decided to imprison Addam. This person seems to think I haven't read that book or that it is somehow giving more and more relevant information than F&B?!
I never denied facts, I told people what and why Rhaenyra acted the way she does in particular circumstances and explained why some of those actions were not as evil as they were presented to be or believed to be. Evil to either those in her world or those reading this book. I explained how there was a level of scrutiny of her actions that encourages and affirms a misogynist reading of her because that scrutiny does not actually observe specific details in its comparisons when there were actors there who performed terrible things or targeted her with no/unjustified/ambitious provocation.
C)
Blood and Cheese is another topic I already talked about many times. People looking at this post can start HERE, where I mention B&C and put other posts under section A. In this post, I talked about the stupidity of claiming that Alicent had a better hold on her emotions and didn't let them influence her into making bad or rash decisions/actions and gave many examples, as the asker there tried to make Alicent a better ruler than Rhaenyra for somehow not letting her grandsons' violent death curtail her emotional control-ability to reason at critical moments to strategize and be pragmatic. Or in any way logical.
Yes, Alicent Hightower, the same woman who: tried to negotiate with Rhaenyra after her own son killed one of hers and ends up dismissing the deaths of the person she's seeking a middle ground with AND tried to get Jaehaera (her own granddaughter who she knows was mentally troubled) to kill Aegon III out of sheer spite; the same woman who had to be talked down by Larys into listening to Corlys an accept his terms temporarily; who told her son to mutilate Aegon III to put off Rhaenyra's supporters as if that were not going to turn public opinion against her son and the greens.
So really, that asker was trying to express that Rhaenyra's paranoia versus Alicent's blind rage was less acceptable because it was more apparent, more public and Rhaenyra was not in Alicent's position of being a support to a male authority figure (Aegon II here). Rhaenyra is the person ruling herself, being the woman in the actual seat, so she receives scrutiny & censure in a way that Alicent doesn't. Because Rhaenyra, just by acting towards having the same position of power traditionally given to men less-reliable-of-character and destabilizing societal prejudices perpetuating the supremacy of male authority, so there are some like anon above who want Rhaenyra to become this Mary Sue Perfectiana.
If a woman is going to do a "man's job", she better not be a real person with a unique psychology of her own developed from her environment, human interaction, social systems and pressures but be Athena. But a man can be Ares and rule with little question b/c the martial world is believed to be a man's. She must surpass the bounds of human selfishness or patience (that men can have and rule simultaneously [Aegon IV, Aegon II, Aerys II, Maegor I]) AND put the wishes of the wishes agents who wish to hypocritically invalidate her right to rule before her own rights AND be evaluated as such by those men and/or those who wish to maintain the very system of gender inequality Rhaenyra's rule would trouble.
But we already have that in Dany, Rhaenyra is supposed to re-contextualize Dany & show why Dany is a great ruler AND what can turn someone into a worse version of themselves (for Rhaenyra, misogyny).
In order to be a ruler "in her own right", she must be a pure agent of emotionlessness but also fall in line with medieval models of motherhood, chastity, and obedience to a male relative/spouse.
D)
Them: "The smallfolk of King’s Landing didn’t riot for no reason either (granted, they were also influenced by the Shepherd), we see this in the original novels."
Again, you can check out what I say about the taxes above...the reason why they grumbled was out of fear (which hello, this is a time of war, fear of loss of life during a retaking or defense is bound to happen) and the greens stole the treasury that Rhaenyra could have used to really supply the KLers with food stuffs, negotiations with other parties, materials for ships, etc. It was a very deliberate choice, and to make the KLers more difficult to deal with in their demands to be succored during such a volatile time. Funny how this never gets highlighted in discussions as to how Rhaenyra began taxing the KLers in the first place, or how no one ever provides their own plan for how to raise money as quickly as possible during such a volatile situation....The Shepherd PLUS Larys' rumor-mongering BOTH exacerbated the fear into making the inhabitants turn against Rhaneyra and the Targ dragons. The Shepherd himself is possibly an agent or "virus" sent by the Citadel/Faith to destabilize Rhaneyra (a theory that has some traction bc this guy quite literally comes out of nowhere and also has great rhetorical power, implying that he at one point may have had leisure time to contemplate his words for speech and idea-dissemination...something maesters and septons/septas do in their vocations). Rhaenyra ALSO didn't tax for no-good-reason.
E)
Coming off the last section, let's also get back to this piece:
"Even if you take an extreme and delusional step and say that every single negative word written about Rhaenyra is untrue slander, how then, did those events happen? Because they clearly did and they can’t be easily explained away as unrelated. Aegon II and Larys Strong were in Dragonstone, Aemond was in the field, Alicent was imprisoned, Criston Cole was long dead, so they can’t be false flag ops, and the riots directed against the regime meant that the smallfolk held them responsible for the cause. Nettles and Addam Velaryon didn’t have phony death sentences."
I love how the past subtle and overtly violent actions each of these characters took against Rhaenyra--even the primary, recent one of stealing the treasury!--aren't considered enough to set up later situations in King's Landing. Apparently, once Rhaenyra landed in KL,, there was no past, nothing to trace her behaviors to. No one died, no one had to move to Dragonstone to actually become some sort of practicing ruler and grow a family without abuses, no one openly questioned Rhaenyra's rights on multiple occasions based on her gender or endangered her and her kids, no one was planning to kill or imprison her on multiple occasions, and NONE of this has anything to do with how Rhaenyra--or any person/woman who happens to get into this position in life--shored up her emotional and political defenses. there is no progression, no causation, no origins of self.
Again, Rhaenyra is quite literally a failed Athena to these people--she failed to spring up a perfect leader from her father's (lacking) instruction and others' fancies of what a leader should look like and act like (which is to be male). When she landed in KL, she never was a child. She had a fresh new start!
F)
Two posts by mononijikayu: HERE and HERE applying some real medieval facts to Rhaenyra and Westerosi feudalism.
Excerpt from the second:
one of the primary drivers behind the erosion of female importance in political life was the transformation of societal norms and legal systems. as the medieval world transitioned to new epochs, shifts in power dynamics often paralleled shifts in gender roles. the rise of feudalism and centralized political structures led to an increasing concentration of power in the hands of a male-dominated aristocracy. the prevailing mindset began to associate public authority with masculinity, and legal frameworks were adapted to mirror these evolving social hierarchies. as a result, women faced mounting barriers to entry into political spheres as societal norms and laws codified their roles as subordinate figures more closely tied to domestic and familial duties. the transformation of royal and noble courts played a crucial role in redefining the nature of women's participation in political life. royal courts were epicenters of power, culture, and decision-making, but they underwent significant changes over time. the reformation of these courts often resulted in a more structured and regulated environment, which in turn began to marginalize women from active political engagement. courtly life increasingly emphasized ceremonial roles and decorum, wherein women might be celebrated for their beauty, grace, and strategic marital alliances, but their direct influence on policy-making and governance diminished. religion just as much held immense sway over medieval society, shaping perceptions of gender roles and political involvement. the doctrinal teachings of the church and the papacy played a dual role: they both reflected and reinforced prevailing gender norms. ecclesiastical doctrine often highlighted the virtue of women as pious wives and mothers, positioning them as symbols of morality and nurturing rather than as political actors. as the church gained prominence as a moral authority, these teachings permeated societal consciousness, reinforcing the notion that women's role in political affairs was secondary to their roles within the bounds of being members of their families and their duties to the wants of their faith. the evolution of these three novel concepts within existing paradigms played a pivotal role in solidifying these notions within the narrative and their implications for society. many of these notions were intricately interconnected, leading to a tight symbiotic relationship that favored the progression of men within the transformed societal landscape. consequently, women found themselves compelled to adopt a more nuanced approach in their pursuit of agency, lest they antagonize a resurging patriarchal order.

woah thank you for this explanation. the brothel queens part is so vile and disturbing, i doubt theyll include it in the show (though, its seasons away so it really just depends on how they plan on evolving rhaenyras character) but just knowing that alone makes me really question how people can be so vehemently team black and act so morally superior for it.
Yeah, there's a really weird mass-psychosis going on right now in "The House of the Dragon" fandom.
People don't seem to grasp the idea that Rhaenyra will become a monster and is remembered in the books - both "A Song of Ice and Fire" and "Dunk and Egg" series - as an absolute tyrant of which many future Targaryens, including Daenerys and Egg (Aegon V), are ashamed to be her direct descendants.
Tyrion - in the books - gives a TED talk about the failings of Viserys in placating Rhaenyra's sins and transgressions and how it contributed into making her a monster ... and that Cersei was heading down that same road with Joffery if they don't do something about it.
I will bring a caveat that the "Brothel Queen's" incident is pushed off as speculation. However, whether it was true or not, the Realm itself and - most importantly - the people of King's Landing believed it to be absolutely what happened. So much so, that when Daeron is allegedly murdered while on the march to King's Landing to rescue Alicent, the people straight up rise up and riot because they wanted justice for Helaena and Alicent but when the one person - their hero- who could've given it to them was murdered, they all decide to do it themselves.
Tens of thousands of people died storming the Red Keep and the Dragon Pit ... but they didn't care. Cause they wanted Rhaenyra to pay for what they assumed she did to Helaena and Alicent.
Also, non-book readers need to be aware that "Fire & Blood" is wholly Team Black Propaganda based in the fictional circumstances in which it is written. That is during the worst of the madness of King Aerys II - just before Robert's Rebellion. Which means that any anti-Targaryen or anti-Black sentiments would be seen as treasonous and would mean that the Maester writing "Fire & Blood" for VIserys and Daenerys would be burned alive by Wildfire.
Therefore there isn't any nuance to Alicent's prospective. She is an evil-stepmother and pious hypocrite who was getting fucked by Ser Criston Cole in the corner of the yard and had bondage parties where everyone had a turn with her. Aemond is a anarchist psychopath who marries an evil white witch. Helaena is a fat and soft weirdo. Aegon II is a drunk whoring wastrel. And Daeron is barely covered other than he is very valiant and honorable, he loves his mommy a great deal, he's one of the best Battle Commanders in the history of Westeros, and he was a cunning warrior.
Therefore, "The Brothel Queen's" incident in which Alicent and Helaena are gang raped is brushed off as "hearsay" despite both the realm believing it and the person who gave the account of the incident being one of the more reliable sources in the chronicles.
As to what the show will do ... I mean, it depends.
A lot of covering for Rhaenyra and making her seem the progressive girl-boss heroine of "House of the Dragon" came from the heavy handed political bend of Miguel Sponchnik. It was that fuck-head who basically created the mass-psychosis of zealous and cult like Alicent hatred and Rhaenyra worship. He interfered a lot with the writing and set the tone for the series to make the show a feminist message about how men keep powerful women down. Which is a complete contradiction of the source material.
George R.R. Martin has said repeatedly that the story of the "Dance of Dragons" is about how anyone and everyone can be corrupted by power - regardless of gender.
Luckily Sponchnik got shit-canned by Warner Brothers - probably at the behest of the writers who were tired of his personal politics handcuffing them from telling a nuanced story.
I think stuff like Laenor not being murdered and Daeron being left out of the first season was Sponchnik's doing in order to create mass sympathy for Team Black. By making Rhaenyra seem like a progressive heroine with only good kids and righteous tolerance they're trying to put the white hats on Rhaenyra and Team Black.
Meanwhile they left out Daeron - The Jon Snow of "The Dance of Dragons" - and I think if Sponchnik hadn't been fired Daeron wouldn't have appeared at all. Because, he - along with Jace - are the only clear cut heroic figures of the "Dance of Dragons".
He also changed the circumstances of Criston Cole killing Joffery Longmoth'. in the book it's a fair fight during a tourney bout that Ser Joffery takes too far and Criston defends himself accordingly. Meanwhile, in the show, Criston just straight up murders Ser Joffery. Thus, it's Sponchnik dog whistling and manipulating progressive viewers and media into hating Criston for murdering a gay person and - by association - hating Alicent who saves Criston and puts him by her side.
Hopefully now that the dip-shit has been fired, we can get an unencumbered writer's room that can bring out the humanity of the Greens and let the the Blacks have a dark side that evolves into true evil (which they become in the end)

The Dance of the Dragons: A Military Analysis (Pt. 10)
We now arrive at the military climax of the Dance of the Dragons, the First and Second Battles of Tumbleton; As always, if this is your first time encountering this series, the previous parts are all linked on my Master Post. If there’s any point at which George can be said to have “Jumped the Shark” with his Dance narrative, it has to be Tumbleton. All of the awful writing tendencies we’ve identified previously are on full display here: plot holes and contrivances left and right, characters suddenly emerge to move the plot in a certain direction without any set-up or internal logic, world-building is ignored or applied as the author demands, alongside inexplicable decision-making galore.
In terms of when the battles took place, we established in Part 9 that the First Battle of Tumbleton likely took place on April 30th 130 AC, and that Rhaenyra likely gave her orders for the arrest of Addam Velaryon and Nettles on May 2nd. Assuming that May 3rd was when an attempt was made to free Corlys Velaryon, who was imprisoned for defending Addam, this means that it would have been the evening of May 4th when Queen Helaena committed suicide, sparking the Riots in King’s Landing. After about five days, Rhaenyra was forced to flee the city and a rogues gallery led by Aegon II’s Master of Whispers, Larys Strong, took over governance of the city. The Hightower army remained at Tumbleton from April 30th all through these events; we’re told that the army’s commanders belatedly heard of Aemond’s death at Harrenhal and were aware of the unrest in King’s Landing, indicating they remained at Tumbleton well after May 22nd. Assuming that word of the Battle over the God’s Eye began circulating the day after, May 23rd, it would have taken about a week for word of it to reach the army at Tumbleton via raven, and another two days elapsed from when the news was first received before the Second Battle began. That gives us June 1st 130 AC as the likely starting date for the Second Battle of Tumbleton, the First Day of the Sixth Moon, meaning just over a month elapsed between the First and Second Battles.
Before analyzing the battles themselves, a brief synopsis of what happened between The Battle of the Honeywine and First Tumbleton is helpful; by the time of the Battle by the Lakeshore, House Rowan, House Oakheart and House Grimm and the Shield Isles had all been forced to submit, “for none dared face Tessarion, the Blue Queen” according to Gyldan. Next to submit were the Merryweathers and Caswells, who surrendered Longtable and Bitterbridge respectively without a fight, with the Merryweathers castle being stripped of it’s wealth and food stores, but otherwise left unmolested. Bitterbridge was not so lucky, being brutally sacked with the support of Prince Daeron; this was after Lady Caswell revealed that Prince Maelor, Aegon II’s only surviving son, had been murdered alongside Ser Rickard Thorne of Aegon’s king’s guard, who was tasked with bringing the prince to Ormund Hightower.
Tumbleton was the seat of House Footly and a prosperous market town, protected by town walls and a small keep, located c.200 miles or roughly a week’s travel to the southwest of King’s Landing at the headwaters of the Mander. The Black forces there numbered some 9000 men by the time of the First Battle, comprising the 7000 strong Riverlord-Winter Wolf army that had annihilated Criston Cole’s forces at the ‘Butcher’s Ball,’ while the remaining 2000 were men from the Blackwater Rush area and the remnants of the Black forces in the Reach. Ser Garibald Grey, Pate of Longleaf, Roderick Dustin, and ‘Red Robb’ Rivers were among the commanders, as were Moslander of Yore, Ser Garrick Hall of Middleton, Ser Merrell the Bold, and Lord Owain Bourney from the Blackwater region. The Hightower army numbered over 20000 men by this point, a tenth of which were mounted knights, according to Maester Munkun; 24000 seems like a reasonable estimate, as Gyldan states that some estimates for the Black forces go as high as 12000 but in all cases the Blacks were heavily outnumbered.
There are serious narrative issues with the First Battle of Tumbleton before it even begins; as stated in Part 9, Maiden’s Day would likely have been sometime in March, to give the Daemon & Nettles plot in the Riverlands sufficient time to develop. Given that Ulf and Hugh were also dispatched to Tumbleton on Maiden’s Day, means there would have been a period of weeks in which the Blacks simply did nothing but await the Hightower army, despite having two very large and old dragons at their disposal. In light of the little real damage being done to the Riverlands by Aemond, we also have to ask why the Black Council did not simply send all four dragonriders to deal with Ormund and Daeron, as once Tessarion was dealt with it would have been easy to destroy the Green armies. Furthermore, while the Black forces at Tumbleton were heavily outnumbered by the Hightower army, Gyldan tells us that the army’s ranks had grown by forcing the surrendered Black houses to join their forces to it’s own. Had the Blacks met the Greens in open battle with Vermithor and Silverwing to offset Tessarion’s presence, there’s every reason to believe that the former Black supporters in Ormund’s ranks could have turned coat and assisted the Blacks. Charging out to meet the Greens, whose only protection would have been a younger she-dragon flown by a 15 year-old boy, would surely have appealed to power-hungry, blood-thirsty men like Hugh and Ulf; the conduct of the Winterwolves and Riverlords at the Butcher’s Ball suggests they would favour this course as well. None of this would bring George closer to his desired outcome however, and so he simply ignores it if he was even aware of it at all.
The First Battle is chock full of contrivances and inexplicable decision-making from the start; we’re told that 6000 of the defenders met the Hightower army outside the town, ‘fighting bravely for a time’ under Ser Garibald Grey’s command. Apparently George thinks it would be a wise idea to take a page from the book of Game of Thrones: Season 8, Episode 3, and have an outnumbered army supported by dragons leave the safety of it’s fortifications and fight on open ground. 9000 men, a third of whom we know are archers, supported by two large dragons should be more than a match for a foe three times their number, with the aid of fortifications. The dearth of any sieges worth that label during the Dance is an glaring omission on George’s part, especially given how much more common sieges were than outright battles in Medieval and Early Modern Europe. We can probably chalk this up to George only having the Dance last 2 years, thus barring any month long sieges, but in the betrayal of the Blacks by Ulf and Hugh gives him an easy out, making the actions of the Blacks that much more perplexing.
As one could predict, this doesn’t turn out well and the defenders retreat through the main gate; it’s here that we get one of the most brazenly contrived examples of plot armour and plot convenience in the entire Dance. Once the defenders were safely inside the town walls, Roderick Dustin and the last c.600 or so of the Winterwolves sally forth from a postern gate, sweeping around the Greens left flank and fighting their way through ten times their number to reach Ormund Hightower’s command post, where Roderick Dustin cuts down both Ormund AND his cousin Ser Bryndon Hightower. To believe that even a fraction of this was possible, we have to assume the Winterwolves were mounted, as accepting that they pulled this off entirely on foot is a non-starter. A postern gate should be small enough for foot soldiers and horsemen to pass through, but any larger would make them a liability to the defenders; this means we have to assume that 600 or so horsemen were able to exit a postern gate, likely to the side of the town, before assembling for a charge around the flank of a more than 20000 man army, and all this without being seen. They also apparently did so without any trouble from the Green cavalry and archers, who were responsible for Grey’s retreat (the Green mounted troops alone were almost a third the number of the entire Black army). We are expected to believe this force of c.600 mounted men fought through 6000 or more enemy soldiers, and were able to do so despite such a small mounted force being at an inherent disadvantage against large ranks of infantry, behind shields and polearms and having suffered little from fatigue or battle. With the Hightower army being as large as it is, Ormund would had to have situated himself towards the rear of his army’s center, in order to ease communication between the flanks. So Dustin likely had to fight his way through the left flank of the army to it’s center-rear, and at no point did Ormund try to avoid the oncoming, seemingly unstoppable Northmen. Ser Bryndon takes one of Dustin’s arms clean off with his great axe, but nothing can stop a man who is armoured by the plot itself; this is extremely significant, because the entirety of the plot at Tumbleton will hinge on the deaths of Ormund and Bryndon Hightower.
It’s at this point that the dragons suddenly decide to intervene and the First Battle of Tumbleton ends; assuming that Ulf and Hugh arrived at Tumbleton weeks prior, and learning that Lord Owain Bourney and Ser Roger Corne were secretly aligned with the Greens and sought to betray the defenders, we should expect that Ormund and Daeron were aware of their presence also. This combined with Daeron’s use of Tessarion to conduct reconnaissance and support the army, makes it completely unbelievable that Dustin was able to pull off his stunt, or that Grey’s forces fought as they did without being annihilated by Tessarion. Nor does the betrayal by Ulf and Hugh make much sense; they may have been cowards who turned-coat once they say Ormund’s forces or the prospect of fighting Daeron, but this doesn’t explain why they made no effort to engage them BEFORE they encountered them at Tumbleton. It’s possible they were promised rich rewards for helping Aegon return to the throne, but this implies that Larys Strong or one of his agents was able to assure them that the King still lived, and that these promises would be made good. This would had to have taken place in King’s Landing prior to Maiden’s Day, but for how avaricious Ulf and Hugh are shown to be, it’s difficult to believe they would remain content with whatever they were promised for so many weeks. This also requires us to believe that neither of them thought of betraying whoever their associate was, alerting Rhaenyra and the Black Council to Aegon still being alive.
Regardless, the First Battle of Tumbleton is an utter disaster for the Blacks; while Tessarion assails the defenders around the walls, Vermithor and Silverwing burn the town from end-to-end, reducing it to ashes. Lord Bourney and Ser Corne open the gates to the attackers, and while a few lucky inhabitants flee the rest burn alive, drown in the Mander, or fall to the Green forces in an orgy of murder and rape. However, we noted at the beginning that a month passes between the First and Second Battles; this is because George goes out of his way to invent reasons and contrivances for the Hightower army to remain at Tumbleton, and prevent the Greens from retaking King’s Landing.

Has it ever been explained how Shintaro used to function?
In season 13 we are told how the lowly became the lowly and how Vangelis got the magic evil skull, while showing a toddler Vania in the flashback. This tells us it happened probably 10-15 years ago. Maybe 20 if you squint. (I don’t though.)
Vangelis explained specifically how everything has a price and the lives of the Shintaran citizens are built on the backs of the Geckel and Munce. But based on everything Shintaro was already a prosperous community before the flashback.
So what gives???
Maybe, just maybe, their community had something to do with those creatures all along. Those vents and tunnels have been there for centuries, and we know that those “poor little creatures” used to live in fear.
Now they’ve had quite a history of trouble in that mountain. You had the wizard, the dragon Griefbringer and the king. Now it wasn’t the king holding up the economy, we know this. And based on the fact that there was nothing left of the sorcerer except for the bones pretty much excludes him too. But what about the dragon? Cole’s mom defeated him and I can imagine heer doing that before she met Wu, thus replacing her father or the previous master of earth in the alliance.
Could the Skyfolk have used griefbringer to bargain the Geckle and Munce?
The timeline fits, assuming the Shintaran nation had some kind af saving it could have taken any given time to run out. The point where Vangelis looked for the skull could thus be accurate.
But that leaves us with another problem. The only reason they’re living on vengestone is because they have a buyer; the Crystal King. But he hasn’t been around for that long now has he? At the earliest since season 3 after dying again.
In other words, Shintaro’s economy must, at some point, have been built on something other then vengestone. Because before the CK, an despecially before the first elemental alliance it had no use, whereas we basically know Shintaro was wealthy before that.
I sure hope it does though, because after defeating the CK Shintaro will have no buyer for it’s main export and it’s economy will collapse, leaving innocent little Vania to deal with the trouble and possibly angry riots and coups for poor leadership.
Can’t wait for Vania to realise she funded the Ninja’s demise to save the people they’ve already saved though since cannonicly it now functions on a working balance between the vengestone workers.
Aren’t fictional economics fun?

Aftershockshipping Playlist
After reading Chapter 40 of @weekend-whip‘s Born to Be a 21st Century Ninja, I... managed to talk myself into making a playlist for Aftershock (Cole x Jesse)... and Ren (weekend-whip) wanted to see it, so... here it is, I guess.
Just a heads up, I don’t normally share playlists, but I just needed to showcase the vibe these two together give me. It’s mostly inspired by the events of the chapter itself & what could’ve been logically playing during Tox’s set at Rockshot, but also just general vibes outside of that setting, though some may feel like they are from a specific perspective (like, you can feel which song is Cole or Jesse), or it is completely unrelated but meshed well into the vibes so I thought “screw it, throw it in”. I’m also thinking that this could be expanded on in future, but let’s keep it “small” for now.
So, in no particular but alphabetical order because I can’t curate effectively, enjoy:
Adore - Cashmere Cat ft. Ariana Grande
All For You - Rynx ft. Kiesza

Wake Up Alone (Fairlane Remix) - The Chainsmokers ft. Jhené Aiko
When You Call - Cyrus Reynolds ft. BELLSAINT
Wings - Birdy
With You - Jupiter Project & Jetski Safari ft. Helen Corry
Now, I did say I was making an Aftershock playlist, but I also wanted to make a playlist for Jesse’s futile efforts to get over Cole because Glacier keeps getting in the way (poor thing lol, not your fault Cole is like a puppy with heart eyes when Zane is present). Just the idea of someone hopelessly in love with another, yet the object of their affections is not only oblivious, but is hopelessly in love with someone else as well, so they try to bury those feelings, try to cut it out of the heart, on for it to hurt them in the process because that love is just rooted so deeply... and perhaps, eventually realising that they can’t give up, that they can’t let go so easily (when letting go is just too hard & painful).
Aftershock - Cash Cash ft. Jacquie Lee
All for Nothing - Duumu & MYRNE
All I Wanted - Paramore
Bells in Santa Fe - Halsey
Chasing Fire (Robin Schulz Remix) - Lauv
Clarity (Virtual Riot Remix) - Zedd ft. Foxes
Don’t Leave - Seven Lions ft. Ellie Goulding
