Okay so I know this might be a bit of a stretch butttttt I think I found a secret clue in the KOA cover description “Chaol, Manon, and Dorian are forced to forge their own paths to meet their fates” forced to forge their own paths to meet their fates. Could this mean they're forced to forge the lock?!?!

“Lower your swords” she commanded, her chin lifting as she lowered to one knee, even as a potent, helpless sort of rage drenched the space around her, one that carried the stench of a long-buried fear come to fruition. “And bow before the ... before the last descendant of the most ancient ones, she who carries the blood of the King of the Gods within her. Bow before your new Queen.”

Throne Of Glass **WITH BIG SPOILERS**
i have just finished Kingdon Of Ash and i am DEPRESSED. i have become so attached to this series that now im sad i cannot continue on with these characters.
the final book had me sobbing not stop in its final moments. even though i knew The Thirteen were going to do The Yielding i did not expect them to do it in the way they did, but im especially happy that Asterin was the one to finally end Mother Blackbeak.
but Sarah, I NEED A MANON AND DORIAN BOOK. i just want to see Manon (and Abraxos) heal from her loss and finally find peace with Dorian by her side.
i adore Aelin as a main character mainly because she reminds me so much of Villanelle from Killing Eve. her and Rowans relationship made me also emotional seeing most the things they did were things she corrected from her time with Sam. like with the soap, she never let Sam use her expensive soap but its the first thing she gives Rowan.
the graveyard scene where Rowan put the stone on Sams grave as a thank you was an attack from Sarah herself.
going into this i had never even heard of Erawan, even from the things about the series i already knew, i just always thought Maeve was the main villain, and in a way she was. Sarah did an excellent job with Maeves character because there were so many times in the final book where i question if she really was the bad guy. i believe she really did want to save Erilea and she had good intentions but after some time she started to lose her grasp on what she truly stood for and started to see alternative ways to get what she wanted, even if that made her the villain. there was a moment where i thought maybe she was going to turn good with Dorian but then i realized that damn this entire time i was being manipulated.
YRENE KILLING ERAWAN?! DIDNT SEE THAT COMING
this is completely all over the place but so this isnt massively long here are some short thoughts:
- Lysandra and Aedion are cute
-will never forgive Gavriels death
-Lorcan i warmed up to you
- Chaol your book was so boring mainly because i dont like you but i love your wife so i stuck through it
- seeing all the character from The Assassins Blade pop up made my heart soar
- Manon, Elide and Abraxos are the best charcters and i will die on that hill
- Nesryn loved you, you were fun. have fun being empress and shout out to the rukkins and Sartaq
-Manon and Elides friendship gave me butterflies
- hey Feyre nice to see you pop up, btw your child will kill you when you give birth to it, be better to Nesta
- Rysand cool to see you, thanks for slowing Aelin down but could you tell your wife that her life and the baby's life is in danger, thank you
- that fight between Manon and Aelin will always be one of the best
-Dorian finding some sort of peace with his father (also him being named after his father :') ) im happy for him but another reason i need a him and Manon book is because wtf happened with his mother and brother, do they just chill in a mountain now?
-Fenrys im glad you got your justice in killing Maeve
-every time the Thirteen showed up i lost my shit. big rest in peace i hope Asterin is with her man and baby again.
-kinda wish the guys from Mistward were at Aelins coronation
- RIP Sam hope you beat the shit out of Arobynn in the Afterworld
- Rip Elena, you kinda deserved it but not in that way
- REST IN PEACE NEHEMIA I WILL FOREVER LOVE YOU
- another example that we need a Manorian book is where the fuck did the Bluebloods Matron go?
-shout out Rolfe
- shout out Fleetfoot
my full thoughts from every book would take forever but here is my ranking (for now):
Kingdom Of Ash > Queen Of Shadows > Heir Of Fire > Empire Of Storms > Crown Of Midnight > Throne Of Glass > Assassins Blade > Tower Of Dawn
5/5

Should I read Tower of Dawn? 🤔
I’m currently re-reading all of tog before I finally read Kingdon of Ash for the first time. Without giving away any spoilers, should I bother to read Tower of Dawn beforehand?
Necessary? Worth it?
Thoughts?

The Final War Meeting of the 100 Year War
Let’s first have a rerun of what happened so we can clearly see how Azula’s suggestion was brought upon in the first place.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
This all depends on perspective of course, but this is how I understand what happened during the War Meeting, especially after reading the book Sozin’s Comet: The Final Battle.
Zuko had unintentionally implied that destroying the Earth Kingdom’s hope was the key to winning the war.
Ozai agreed, and so Azula proposed a plan to destroy that hope, by burning their land.
Ozai agreed, and took it further than what Azula had proposed. He announced that he would destroy EVERYTHING, and that from doing so, all the LANDS would be Fire Nation and he would be the supreme ruler.
The War Meeting started with General Shinu reporting the situation in the Earth Kingdom. Although they had taken Ba Sing Se, and the Earth King and the rest of the rulers in the Earth Kingdom were no longer in power, rebels were still opposing the Fire Nation.
It was always thought that if Ba Sing Se were to fall, then the whole of Earth Kingdom would surrender unconditionally because of the Earth King.
The Earth Kingdom had lost its hope and only relied on their own forces from driving out the Fire Nation out of obligation to their country probably (however failing miserably), and families who had sent out their own members to the army had only wished that their sons and husbands would return back alive to them. That was the mindset of the Earth Kingdom families. All they wanted was for their loved ones to return, because they did not think that defeating the Fire Nation was even possible by then.
However, when news came that the Avatar had returned, hope was restored. Their military may not be able to defeat the Fire Nation, but with the Avatar? There was now a possibility.
The Avatar represented many things during the war:
Safety, balance, and most importantly hope.
The Avatar had traveled great and beyond, helping refugees and villagers along the way. His presence reminded the people that there was still hope for them in the war, that there could still be peace. The Avatar taught them to never lose hope, and that’s exactly what they did even when they thought that the Avatar was gone.
The Earth Kingdom people were proud of their country. As long as there was still land for them to defend, they would’ve never surrendered. And Azula knew this. What Azula suggested was a strategic plan that was meant to undermine civilian morale— to make them lose hope which would thus lead to a quick victory.
Let’s look at the language use.
‘I think we should take their precious hope and the rest of their land and burn it all to the ground.’
- Azula
‘From our airships, we will rain fire over their lands, a fire that will destroy everything; and out of the ashes, a new world will be born, a world in which all the lands are Fire Nation and I am the supreme ruler of everything!’
- Ozai
Azula had said land, while Ozai said landS and everything.
Everything would have meant - villages, wildlife, forests, buildings and people.
If Azula had the same idea as Ozai, which was to involve burning even the people, then she would’ve just said ‘-and burn them all to the ground’, but she didn’t. She said ‘it’ instead. She was only referring to the land itself.
- Azula had proposed to burn only the land.
- Ozai had proposed to burn everything, to the point where nothing would even survive.
Tumblr media
Notice how Zuko didn’t even mention Azula anywhere in this, because even he knew and understood that the plan was ultimately Ozai’s, and not his sister’s.
You can argue that Azula wouldn’t have bothered to evacuate the citizens, but her past actions says so otherwise. Azula had never once risked an innocent’s life or even her enemy’s, even if it was for the sake of succeeding her mission. She loved being worshipped. The more people worshipped her, the more she felt that she was above everyone else. There’s also the fact that she was strategical, so she wouldn’t have just sacrificed millions of lives just for the sake of it since she knew that manpower was a strength that would’ve been impertinent in leading a country. And like what the US did in Japan, the Fire Nation could’ve dropped leaflets throughout the continent using their Air Force to warn them about the what they were going to do. The Earth Kingdom people could’ve seeked refuge in the Fire Nation colonies or Ba Sing Se, both of which would’ve been left untouched.
And like I mentioned in previous posts, if Azula did not care for human life then she would’ve just killed Earth King Kuei and the rest of her prisoners (especially the Council of Five), ensuring the abolishment of the Earth Kingdom monarchy and permanently getting rid of her enemies and causing the military of the Earth Kingdom to surrender unconditionally. If the King, and essentially the ‘heads’ of the military were gone, then the Earth Kingdom military would’ve surrendered and the Fire Nation would’ve achieved complete victory over the Earth Kingdom.
However, Azula didn’t do this. Killing the Earth King and the Council of Five wasn’t necessary because she was convinced and confident that the Fire Nation would soon take control of the Earth Kingdom even with the Earth Kingdon military still opposing them. They didn’t hold any actual threat. The only ever real threat was the Avatar, and she had killed him. Azula only killed, if it was actually necessary.
Ozai could’ve simply just done what Azula didn’t, and they would’ve achieved victory and finally end the war, but he didn’t do that because he wanted to end the war in a ‘grand’ way. He didn’t want to be just known as the Fire Lord that finished the war. Fire Lord Sozin had started the war and eradicated the Air Nomands. Fire Lord Azulon had technically eradicated the waterbenders of the Southern Water Tribe and taken control of several territories in the Earth Kingdom. Heck, even his 14 yr old daughter had achieved what even his predecessors couldn’t, which was to conquer Ba Sing Se with just her own resources.
No, Ozai wanted to end the war with grandiose, to be known for something, and seeing his name being proclaimed in the history books as the Fire Lord that won the war by burning and eradicating the entirety of Earth Kingdom to ashes, was exactly what he wanted.
In conclusion, this was Ozai’s plan, only inspired by Azula’s less fatal and just much more reasonable plan.

I forgot to tell the world of tumblr that I got a Throne of Glass tattoo. Specifically from Kingdon of Ash. For a year, I was trapped in a relationship. For a year I was sexually, physically, and emotionally abused. I didn't start reading Throne of Glass till a few years ago and it has really helped in my recovery. I still have nightmares. But I'm happily married now. And I sometimes joke that I've found my Rowan. But it's true. This series and my partner have helped me overcome and grow a lot. And I just want to say, thank you, Sarah J. Maas.
