It was Suga's birthday and the team went out for some smoothies after practice and since everyone brought snacks they ended up having a picnic. Yachi even baked a cake and she made sure to let Suga know that Kiyoko helped with the decorations and the frosting. Yamaguchi and Hinata made him a collage with all the pictures they had together, and well Tsukishima too. His job was to keep Hinata from going overboard with the glue. Kageyama made him a keychain that was a miniature of Suga's cat. The second years broke the don't buy me anything rule as they got him some sneakers and Asahi made him cool socks to wear with them. Daichi however didn't gift him anything. Suga felt a pang of pain at that, but he had been the one to threaten his friends with violence if they brought him anything for his birthday. It wasn't up until it was just them two, Daichi walking Suga home after the "party" that he confessed that he did have a present for him. Daichi had written him a love letter; it was sweet and maybe cheesy but Suga loved those. He cried and that scared Daichi. He tried to backtrack as he thought Suga wasn't interested, going as far as to try to take the letter back. Suga punched him (negagivity begone stile) which made them laugh. Daichi then, blushing red, asked if he could kiss Suga. That was their first kiss and it made Suga's day.

first date nerves

He was nervous.

That much was obvious as his hands wrung each other out and the way he teetered on his toes waiting for you. It was obvious with the way the collar he wore with the shirt seemed to choke him. His eyes moving one place to the other, searching for signs of you coming out soon. Kinoshita doesn't think he'd be able to handle the surprise of that happening, a heart attack was certain to come.

The street lights lining your road to the house had come on ten minutes ago, Kinoshita had been here for twenty.

He took a deep breath, he really needed to calm down. He shouldn't have been so nervous, after all you did say yes many times when he asked the question. There's no way that you didn't like him as he liked you, right?

Oh god, just the thought of you not reciprocating his feelings might have put him in an early coffin. That was most likely the worst thing he could think of whilst waiting for you out here.

It was humid where he stood, he long since took off the jacket he was wearing. He feared that the sweat would have been noticeable on the light blue button up he was wearing. Instead of a tie, he wore a bow-tie.

Kinoshita didn't know how to tie his own ties.

He had tried looking the tutorial up on youtube because he wanted to look his absolute best for you on your first date but - he got confused. Eventually, when he did manage to actually tie the knot, it looked wonky and his nerves got the best of him. On his way here he had stopped a clothing outlet to buy a bowtie that went with his attire.

Well at least he hopes goes with his attire. It's what the store employee said anyway. Kinoshita swallowed again tried to look in the front window on your house. The lamp was on but the curtains was drawn so there were no shadows.

Until there was one.

It was dancing in the window and Kinoshita just knew that it had to be you. The way you moved through the light, he could tell you were wearing a dress with the shape of the shadow.

He quickly looked away, he didn't want any spoilers to how you would look tonight.

He dug into the pocket of his pants and pulled out in his hands the small box with a silver bow on top of it a little tighter and straightened his back. You were finally ready, that much he could tell. He didn't want to rush perfection.

Since he knew you were already near the door, he didn't feel as surprised as he thought he would and he was a little more prepared. But jesus christ did none of the mean anything when he saw you.

You looked absolutely perfect, Kinoshita had barely half a mind to keep standing upright when you smiled at him. It made him worry if he looked like a beast next to you and all of a sudden, he got self-conscious.

"Kinoshita!" you jumped at him and gave a squeezing hug, "you should have told me to hurry up," he felt the presence of your arms wrapping around him and his went up to hold you as well. He looked down at you, didn't you think he looked much worse in comparison to you as well?

It's a wonder you're even dating him in the first place.

Kinoshita put a wobbly smile on his face, "I would never rush you," and he hugged you even tighter. You felt good pressed against him, the joy you had to see him was just seeping into his body from the physical contact you each shared. If he tried hard enough, he could feel your heart's pumping resonating with his own.

It was a beautiful musical beat, something that he would listen to hours if he could.

When you pulled away, you were still smiling at him as you were when you came out. If he wasn't mistaken, he could see just the slight blush that coated your cheeks. Maybe you were just as nervous as he was - but you hid it so much better than he did.

"Why you got your hands behind your back?" then proceeded to try and look at what he was holding by leaning to one side. He turned his hands from out of your prying view.

"It's a surprise," he smiled at you. You huffed at him.

"Everything seems to be a surprise today, you won't even tell me where we're going," you crossed your arms over your chest and Kinoshita nearly visibly swooned at the sight.

Kinoshita smiled at your remark but wrapped an arm around your shoulder, "listen, I know you'll love it."

He whisked you away to his car and began a short drive down unfamiliar back roads to you. The entire way through, there was low pop music playing through the radio, windows down with wind blowing throughout the car, and the insatiable questions that you had for Kinoshita. They ranged from his sock size to the sightings of big foot.

And loved every single second of it.

By the time you guys arrived to a secluded portion of town, you're red face from laughing so hard and the nerves that Kinoshita had, melted away. You did that on purpose, didn't you?

The moment you came out, you saw how his body stiffened. You really were an angel to him and he? Well, he still can't help but be cast in the shadow of his own self-doubt but somehow you manage to bring light onto the situation he always finds himself in.

You got out the car and he followed suite, locking it before guiding you to where they'd spend the rest of the night. He held your hand with the most care this man could muster. Your hands seemed to be just made for him.

A small blanket came into view and he could feel the tighten of your hand around his along with the excited squeal that came after it.

"No way," you turned to face a smiling Kinoshita, "did you really do this for the date?" your hand clenched even more around his. In Kinoshita's chest, his pride swelled above and beyond at your reaction. The time he spent fine-tuning everything was well worth it as you dragged him to the small set-up that he had planned for you.

"Who would've thought you'd be the romantic picnic guy?" you teased him by pushing his shoulder. Kinoshita only closed his eyes and put on a smug smirk himself.

"After all that talking in the car, you didn't figure it out?" he only laughed when you gasped with offence and shoving him hard.

You only frowned even more before laughing while he feigned to be hurt by your brutal shove. Kinoshita enjoyed this. After being sound wound - it felt great to not worry about being good enough for you. You seemed to be having a blast.

It was a little dark out, but not dark out enough yet so you two could see the stars. But he didn't mind because his star was already shining bright, right next to him.

"I take it we're going star-gazing?" you gave him a barely noticeable wink and he laughed. He used his arm to reach over and drag you a little closer to him. Again he could feel your heartbeat resonate with his own and he felt at peace.

"I don't need the sky to see my star," and your response was to snuggle closer to him but with no luck hiding your flaming face from him.

Kinoshita smiled before relaxing with you in his hold, yea, he only needed to remember he had you whenever he got too nervous.
