One year ago today, I started Prophetic Hijinks.

Or more accurately, I drew a single comic of Bruno getting a sweet little wave from a kind soul who didn’t know his baggage, and it snowballed from there.

I never would have guessed such a small comic, would balloon into a long running linear story arc, and darn near 100 comics!

I am thankful that I kept going and was able to share the worlds, stories and scenarios that reside inside my head. I always wanted to work in animation, and this project gave me a little taste of storytelling. As well as gave me the motivation to draw every day, and see myself improve dramatically. But, I have hit a satisfying fruition point. Covering the major story beats I wanted to tackle with the completion of the wedding comic.

That’s not to say that there won’t be more comics in the future, but definitely not at the same goal at one or two a week.

I am still in love with Encanto and in particular the fandom so full of many wonderful, funny and creative people, and their marvelous OC’s. I am so grateful to fans who stuck with my comic, and who love Elena so much they celebrate her happiness (and retribution &@$& Carlos) right along with her.

So thank you all so much and shoutout to all those who keep the Encanto fandom so vibrant and strong.

STORY TIME: I don't have a specific art style. Here's why.

I've always been a creative kid growing up. My mom bought me a whole lot of sketchbooks that I would fill with lots and lots of drawings. Naturally, when I graduated from high school, I decided to go to art school...even if my dad wanted me to be a nurse (I'm terrified of blood, by the way, which is also why I didn't go to med school even if I dreamed of being a doctor). And I loved all four years of it.

I loved it because I finally found my people (I was a lil anime weirdo in high school who got picked on a lot).

But it came with a price, for me at least. It killed my creativity. I lived in constant judgment from my professors because my old art style was too...anime-like. Unrealistic. And I envied all of my classmates who knew how to work colors and light into their drawings like it was second nature to them. I felt so insecure. I think I only survived because I was determined to make something out of myself. When I got that diploma, I was thrilled...before I realized a few months after graduation that I couldn't draw from memory anymore.

I just couldn't draw the same way I used to when I was a kid.

I threw out a few of the sketches I've made during those times because I hated them. They didn't look right to me. What's worse was that when I finally created something I liked and posted it on my socials, I wouldn't get as much validation or activity. I got super depressed...all the while my upperclassmen and even fellow batch mates made it big (one of them draws variant covers for MARVEL).

So why does this matter?

It's been eight years since I graduated. I don't use my degree to a massive extent at my current workplace. In fact, I'm far from it.

It matters because I'm slowly rediscovering all those moments of my childhood when I didn't care if my art looked good or not. OF COURSE, I'd love for them to look good all the time (don't get me wrong) but now I find myself excited to finish a piece I've been working on for a few days and then starting a new one right after.

My art style is not the same as before. I use references. A LOT of them. I wish I didn't need to, but then I remember I suck at drawing hands. Or eyes. Or...just in general at this time. And that's okay.

This is why doing this piece (and all others I've posted recently) matters to me. It helps me remind myself that even if I don't get massive hits, at least I'm starting my healing process.

I'll be okay with my own self...and my drawings, eventually.

Christmas is pretty chill and I love to give others presents, even though I’m not very creative.
