I’ve watched “Kipo and the Age of Wonderbeasts” episode 6. In this episode we finally see Scarlemagne – he is a mandrill, who intoxicates humans with some pheromones, hypnotizes them and makes them dance for him. Kipo at the same time tries to solve the clue her father left for her – it’s a length of parsec and the same time the time of her birth. It turns out that it’s her birthday today and that Wolf doesn’t know when her birthday is. Kipo decides that they are birthday sisters now, so they separate – she and Benson go to find a present for Wolf and Wolf, Dave and Mandu (the pig) leave to find a present for Kipo. Since they find a present very quickly, Benson decides to give a present himself first and takes her to the Ratland – a big amusement park held by rats. It’s supposed to be a safe space for every specie. They have a good time there. There was a funny thing: me as a non-native speaker thinking that idioms are quotes, such as “Rain on somebody’s parade” to be a quote from “Funny Girl” and then finding out that it’s not. Here, by the way, also reveals the reason why I even started watching it – Benson is openly gay! He comes out to Kipo when she says that she likes him. Well, after that Scarlamagne’s henchmen on a flamingo attack them. They can fly, but Kipo notices her hand becoming covered with fur and then normal again. During all these events, Wolf, arguing with Dave, searches for a present. They also face the primates on flamingos, but then they are able to find a solution to the Kipo’s father’s clue and a sleeve of a jacket Kipo liked. When they meet, Kipo gives Wolf a nice hair-barrette and Wolf gives her only the sleeve but keeps the solution (a map) to herself.

Thinking abt how so many characters in media who canonically state that they don't like people touching them constantly have their boundaries broken and are forced into hugs by other characters and every single time they are shown to be upset it's supposed to be a flaw that they need to overcome until they just are forced to accept/like it.

The character names in Kataow are amazing because first, you have Kipo— lovely name, love how it sounds, and I’m it has some amazing meanings that tie in to Kipo as a character. 

Then you have Wolf. You never learn her previous name, but Kipo calls her Wolf (full name: Wolfatha Christie the Fourth) and Wolf accepts it. She never asks people to stop calling her that. It’s a perfect name for Wolf.

You’ve got Benson. I haven’t met many Bensons (usually, just ‘Ben’) but it sounds familiar and nice. Benson is a nice guy. A good friend.

Mandu is a blue four-eyed and six-legged pig, named after the dumplings Kipo’s dad used to make. It’s a little odd but hey, mute pig— and it has sentimental meaning to Kipo— so it fits Mandu perfectly.

You’ve got Kipo’s family Lio (not an uncommon name) and Song (beautiful name) and Hugo— they all fit well with Kipo. 

Hugo later takes the name Scarlemagne— a play on ‘Scar’ and Charlemagne’. That’s so clever! 

There’s also Jamack, Troy, Dr Emilia (sounds like a normal human name, but still cool for an antagonist), and may we not forget Yumyan Hammerpaw. 

And then you have… Dave. Just Dave. Dave the Bug. Dave the metamorphosing bug mute. This is so hilarious, it’s perfect.

I’ve watched “Kipo and the Age of Wonderbeasts” episode 2. In the second episode we got introduced to another one of main characters (at least I hope, this guy will stick around for some time) – a nice, easy-going boy, who lives with a “mute” – an insect, who goes through his ontogenesis (larva, “teenage”, small insect, big insect) very fast. The boy’s called Benson and the insect’s name is Dave. Wolf doesn’t trust them (Spoilers!) and on the one hand, they saved girls from the frogs, on the other hand when their help was declined, they just stole Wolf’s weapon. Though, then they returned it and then frogs caught Benson and Dave. Kipo and Wolf managed to run away, but then Kipo persuaded her companion, that they should save their new acquaintances. So, they let frogs catch them, meet the frog boss and then since they brought some mega-bunny fur with them, a mega-bunny mama came and so, all our character ran away, Dave highjacked/negotiated with a dragonfly, so they flew through the “Skyscraper Ridge” and came to the entrance to the bunker and found nobody there. Kipo believes that her people probably just moved somewhere. Dave ad Benson want to go with her to the Buro and Wolf says that her work – bringing Kipo home – isn’t done, so she’s joining the search again. Benson is a little bit like Baby-driver – he’s searching for the perfect song for important moments and actions scenes.

A fifteen year old Wolf, finds her old Wolf dad raising a new group. She’s forced into an adventure with these new kids. Like a Lone Wolf and Cub adventure.

It’ll be a fight for leadership.

and maybe, some answers of what happened to Wolf's birth parents. Did they worked for Emilia or were they surface people too. Or they might pull a Tarzan. That's just my guess. ^^
