So this morning our neighbors yard was full of turkey vultures. There wasn’t anything dead in there or anything. The vultures were just playing with the neighbor kid’s toys. One of them was sitting in a wagon, another three were chasing each other on the ground, one of them was trying to carry off the kid’s baseball bat, and yet another was unsuccessfully trying to sit on a volleyball. It was wild. Wish I thought to get a picture.

Foreign Candy #3

New box!

First candy had some red thing? I thought it was a knockoff Fruit Rollup, but it was gummy-looking? And THICC?? Tasted exactly like a Fruit Rollup. Texture-to-taste dissonance prevented proper enjoyment.

Second one wasn’t candy, but a kind of mini pretzel stick. Not salty, kinda spicy but not hot? I ate half the pretzel sticks in one go, very nice. Would totally eat again. Will probably eat again.

Foreign Candy #2

More Japanese candy box shenanigans. Finished trying the candy; my sister had some too this time.

There were these green cookie things with a tan Hello Kitty on the front, think they might’ve been green tea flavored? Would’ve liked them better if they tasted more like green tea cookies and less like chalk cookies.

My sister said she recognized these other ones, called them “Happy Pandas” or something. The box had a picture of flan on the front, and they tasted great, very sweet. Saved some for later, very good. Not sure why it’s called Happy Pandas is the cookies have a koala printed on them??

Last one was this blue thing shaped like a fish. Not really candy so much as a big mint-flavored wafer cookie. Shaped like a fish. No one in the house like mint except for Mom, but she thought it was great. I told Mom should could keep Mr. Fishie, which seemed to make her happy.

Hoping the next candy box has new flavors to try!

Foreign Candy #1

Got this fancy Japanese candy box a little bit back. It’s great.

Had some candy with Pokemon on the front (it was gum), Kirby on the front (also gum), and even one with Detective Conan (in a surprising twist, this one was not gum). My husband called the DC candy a “discount Kitkat”. He’s not entirely wrong.

There was also this bag of puff... things? They looked like brown cheesy puffs, smelled spicy. Never been so surprised by a favor when I bit into something in my life. It was sour and tasted like spices. Not bad, just not really my cup of tea.

There was also this bag of snack-cracker-type things. Can’t really read the packaging of any of these, but this one said “LADYCORN” on the front, so I’ve been calling it that. Tastes somewhere in between strong corn taste and plain cracker. Wild.

Still more candy to try, gonna let my sister try some too.

My Team Leader: (plays a recording of one of my calls and asks me to write down what went well and what could go better)

Me: (writes lots of notes)

My TL: Okay, what do you think you did well on that call?

Me: (clumsily mentions like two things that I thought were only “okay”)

My TL: Okay, and what do you think you can improve on?

Me: (quickly lists off like a minimum of six things that I consider to be terrible and awful)

My TL: ...You got 100% on that call and every other one I’ve heard, are you okay?

(This occurs every week.)

So losing my sense of taste from sickness has been fun. I’ve turned it into a science experiment to see what tastes actually bust through.

Potato chips: nothing. Cheese puff: nothing Water: nothing, but it’s water so... Dr. Pepper: the most flavorful thing I’ve had today. The aftertaste is still very present and good. This is what diet soda should taste like! Corn dog: tastes normal, very weird. Mustard (with corn dog): taste like sour tang and nothing else. Pretzel sticks: nothing unless I shove like six or more in my mouth, then I get the tiniest bit of salt. Sprite: taste normal???
