pie-lette redux, pt1

The facts were these: Kiyoshi Teppei could raise the dead, and he wasn't happy about it. (Rewrite of pushing daisies with knb)

One summer day, when Young Kiyoshi was 9 years, 27 weeks, 6 days, and 3 minutes old, he realized he wasn’t like the other children.  Nor was he like anyone else; Young Kiyoshi could touch dead things and bring them back to life. 

While his grandmother was in the kitchen baking a pie, a blood vessel in her brain burst, killing her instantly.  Young Kiyoshi shook his grandmother to see if she was alright, and just like that, she was.  Unfortunately, Young Kiyoshi’s gift came with some conditions:

It was not only a gift that gave--it also took.  If Young Kiyoshi kept a dead person alive for longer than one minute, someone else had to die in their place.  When Young Kiyoshi raised his grandmother, he had traded her life for the life of his best friend’s father across the street.

This was not the only rule Young Kiyoshi would learn that day.  You see, his first touch gave life. A second touch made them dead, again.  Forever.

That night, after his grandmother tucked him in, she kissed him on the forehead and was immediately returned to her most recent state--which is to say, death.

At the joint funerals later than week, Young Kiyoshi’s grandmother and Young Riko’s father were buried on adjoining hills.  Dizzy with grief, Young Kiyoshi and Young Riko shared their first and only kiss.

After his grandmother’s death, Young Kiyoshi, sent away to boarding school, avoided social attachments, fearing what he may do if someone else he loved died.  He also became obsessed with pies.

It’s 19 years, 34 weeks, 1 day, and 59 minutes later, heretofore known as now.

Young Kiyoshi has become The Piemaker.  

He runs a small shop in the city known as the Pie Hole.  The peaches never brown, the strawberries never shrivel.  In his hands, dead fruit becomes ripe with everlasting flavor--so long as he only touches it once.

Ships I consider canon are ships that are at least implied to be canon in the series, like KiyoRiko, HyuuRiko or AoMomo.

Ships that I think "hell yeah they're together": HyuuRiko and AoMomo. KiyoRiko is super cute - I love this pairing, but they're unfortunately a thing of the past XD

But Kiyoshi has another candidate! Izuki Aya seems to be interested in him. I find the idea of Kiyoshi and Izuki being brother-in-laws cute and it has a lot of potential for headcanons, so I do ship Kiyoshi with Aya too (even though it's one-sided, at least for now).

Secret Agent!AU: Riko and Kiyoshi

On a very rare occasion, I’m diverting from the KiyoKuro for a bit bc I’ve fallen into the KiyoRiko dynamic of secret agent!au

Riko and Kiyoshi (and Hyuuga and Izuki) inherited the organization together, Riko being the youngest to ever hold that position, and Kiyoshi following close behind. (They’re in their late twenties at the time, with Kiyoshi being a couple years older).

I think Kiyoshi had been that source of confidence for Riko to successfully lead an entire company’s worth of spies in the beginning. The brilliance was of her own strength, but Teppei had always been that reassuring presence.

Kiyoshi looked after them. He couldn’t always guarantee a mission, but they never lost an agent under his direct watch. 

And Kiyoshi was a great mentor, having a deep background in law enforcement and security prior to his career as an agent. He captured and cemented loyalties, cared for each trainee like their lives had their own unique, intrinsic value. It was a dangerous and painful sentiment for their line of work where lives came second to the objective, but it had worked.

Even so, there was that implicit understanding that no matter what happened to either of them, they would stay true to their duty. That’s why Riko doesn’t waver when she starts receiving pieces of him in the mail, when every one of her appeals for a retrieval mission was met with a giant red stamp.

He was supposed to be the best. If anyone could survive that torture with their mind intact, it’d be him.

It should’ve been him.

If she was ever going to defy orders, she should’ve done it then and killed him herself when Teppei smiles placidly from behind the screen. 

He had tortured and murdered every agent she sent after him, sent them in pieces, or sent them dying. Every trainee of the last generation he mentored, wiped from the earth one way or another. They were supposed to have known him best, only Kiyoshi knew them better.

Give me a ship and I’ll tell you:

Who cooks: Riko still tries every now and then, but Kiyoshi cooks. Her food is getting better though, it could even be edible if she stopped adding supplements.

Who does the laundry and other chores: They do a pretty good job of taking it in turns, as they are both used to being the responsible ones.

How many children do they have: 1, Kiyoshi always wanted a little girl with Riko’s big brown eyes.

Who’s more dominate: Kiyoshi

Favorite nonsexual activity: They like to go to shopping centres and window shop

Their favorite place to be together: Kiyoshi is open about how much he loves to cuddle with her in the morning, she is a little more reluctant to admit that she agrees

Any traditions: Kagetora makes mandatory visits at least twice a year to make sure that Kiyoshi is taking care of his little girl.

What they do for each other on holidays: They try and go on a few more adventurous dates as they have the time, but aside from that act normal.

Where did they go for their honeymoon: They went to London, but didn’t stay in central London because of the noise and the price. Kiyoshi wanted to go to the museums and take Riko to all the nicest restaurants!

Where did they first meet: They met when Kiyoshi approached her randomly to ask her to coach the basketball team.

Any pets: They would like one, but they never get round to adopting a pet.

What do they fight over: They don’t fight very often, unless Kiyoshi accidentally says something underhanded about her cooking.

Do they go on vacations, if so where: They don’t go out of the country as they never have the time to plan, but plan to spend time in other cities when they have a day free.
