I shouldn’t be surprised either, but the eagerness the imperials have to hang people chills me too the bone.

Because it’s a control thing. And that imperial officer admitted it. They know Paaks did nothing. They know. But they’re still comfortable taking a life just to “show them who’s boss”.

It’s disgusting. But it’s real. When the empire references Nazi Germany and the KKK at the same time like this, it is made very clear. And I’m glad that the show leans into the historical intentions that were laid out at Star Wars’ inception.

It has never been shown this harshly or directly but it’s good that it does because it doesn’t shy away. This is bold to do. It is sad to see these actions on screen, but they hold weight because the disregard for life mirrors reality in a lot of ways and places. Both past and definitely present.

Also thinking about how much status one used to receive by being associated with the KKK, at least in certain circles. And how terrifying that is. How fundamental racism is to the foundation of american society.
