Hi, Undine! Happy Sleepover Sunday! Glad to see you back on my dash, hope you're well? (submitting the rest)

Have you been writing anything as of late? Also, random question, but what are your current top five albums? (or artists, if that’s easier for you!)

For me, it would be Fighting the World (Manowar), Constrictor (Alice Cooper), Photo Finish (Rory Gallagher), the Book of Taliesyn (Deep Purple), and Obscured by Clouds (Pink Floyd)

I’ve been steadily writing my wip Rushing Whispers for about six weeks. It begins in May 1970, in the woods outside Aberdeen, Scotland. It’s mainly a romance, although there is a spirit guide involved, lots of character development throughout. Right now, it’s March 1971 and so much has happened to Emily and Cameron, it’s hard to believe sometimes! I’m really proud of this story, and I’m also very humbled and grateful for all the comments I receive on the story! It makes me so happy that others also enjoy this sweet romance.

I’ve been doing a lot of writing actually — by a lot, I mean the most writing I’ve ever done in my life. I’ve never been much of a consistent writer, but lately my partner and I have been writing approximately 1k - 2k per day!

I’m not someone who really listens to specific albums, so my current favorite artists are... Zella Day, Regina Spektor, RADWIMPS, PHILDEL, and Mal Blum I think? I’m not someone who pays a lot of attention to artists when listening to music.

the poacher and the mermaid:

they tell stories about the boy king’s island. they tell stories about the girl he fell in love with, who stabbed him in the heart with a knife with a rose carved into its hilt, who some say he would have given the world but others say he would have ruined. they don’t tell stories about the siren who started it all.

your name is lilith. when your father tells you to marry the prince of some distant, land-cursed kingdom in hopes of freeing their people and returning them to sea, you know that you should say yes.

but you don’t, because you never do the things you should.

instead, you fall in love with the faerie boy who speaks to you through the water. instead, you follow him to his island. instead, you doom your family to their own curse of seafoam.

instead, you bring an exiled princess from her land to destroy the island, because all your touch has ever known was to kill.

What My Tumblr Means!

I saw @candyandcurrantbun post and I wanted to do it because it seems interesting and funny!

•Header: A Cozy gif being lovely with his full lopsided smile! This used to be a Deep Purple-Rainbow blog but I fell for Cozy so badly and I noticed that he is slightly underrated so I made this Cozy blog for him.

•Icon: One of my favorite Cozy photos with a lavander-blue filter to match with the color of my blog.

•Description: Lyrics from Cream's Strange Brew (also Cozy had a band named Strange Brew) "She's a witch of trouble in a Electric Blue" because one side of my hair is blue. The "Cozy Powell central office" because... that is what this blog is. The "Silly guitarist" it's because I play guitar quote from Cozy and "Ruled by all classic rock" because is mostly true.

•Background colour: Dark-soft blue (looks like the original Tumblr Blue actually)

•Letter colour: Light blue, it matches with the color of the cozy gif and also for my hair... and because blue is my favorite color too.

•URL meaning: It comes from a pic of Ritchie Blackmore at Ian Gillan's wedding. Okay, he is not completely in white but light colours. So I thought "Oh Ritchie Blackless" Also... Ritchie in white at Ian's wedding?? Suspicious...

•Tumblr name meaning: Is because of this

And is perfect for the Cozy central office because it's sounds like a TV commercial or something like that. Besides, is basically Cozy's personality.

So, my week of feral drafting is over and it went exactly as planned!

Which is to say, I didn’t come anywhere close to finishing. But I knew I wouldn’t! This is my first real writing project in over half a decade, this whole pandemic thing has me questioning the entire direction of my life, and I knew that it was just an absolutely unattainable goal for me to reach in just a week.

But it made me start and actually get words down rather than just world building in my head! And its really given me a good understanding of just how long this first draft is going to be, and how much I am going to have to trim and re-work. It’s also really pushed me to think that Ive got some undiagnosed ADHD thing going on, but that’s- I mean, its whatever. I’ve written, in fits and starts, just over 10k words of plot-based outline. It began as a drafty draft but then the time crunch started to encroach and the speed picked up. So, 10k worth of outline, and I think that I’ve only just started to approach the first pinch point in the narrative (25% of the way through).

Anyway, It was a fun exercise. I would, for anyone else thinking of attempting it, suggest having an outline. I had no idea where these crazy kids were taking me, or what they would need before they could move on to the next thing. An outline would have helped enormously. I think I didn’t make one just because I knew from the start that I wouldnt actually be finishing.

This is a great challenge if you need a kick up the ass to just GO and DO IT if you are having trouble making yourself DO THE THING. It’s super low-stakes because at the end of it you’ll just have more words! I highly recommend it :D

sometimes! not normally for my wips, though. a lot of my notes are by hand in a notebook, but the actual writing is all on my computer else i forget to type it up. i usually have a notebook with me though, especially if i’m travelling, so sometimes when i get an idea i’ll end up scribbling it down and flesh it out when i can get to a computer. 

👻 Which of your OCs would try to haunt people as a ghost?

katja from idiots in love, 100%. she’d take great delight in wreaking havoc without being bound by the laws of physics.

[Picketts] So, tell us a little about the EP, daymares. What was your inspiration behind it?

[Jana] Well, daymares is a word that we thought we made up, but turns out it was already a thing. It’s in the Merriam-Webster dictionary. But it’s the idea of having terrifying dreams while you’re still awake, the bad version of daydreaming.

[Jon] Yeah, so the actual definition is more like having horrifying visions, but nightmares aren’t always monsters and creatures. They’re not always scary because they’re visual. They’re scary because your mind knows exactly what you fear and conjures up situations that manipulate those vulnerabilities. They can be anything from being attacked by something greater than yourself to losing a loved one to failing at something you should be good at, being a disappointment. The idea behind the songs is to explore those fears, those vulnerabilities, those regrets, the things that haunt you even in the daytime.

[Picketts] Absolutely, that’s fascinating! And that’s something that we all experience, so it’s great that you’re exploring that. It sounds very personal - how much of yourself do you put into your music? How much is taken from your own experiences, and is that hard to do?

[Jana] All of the music we write is inspired by our own experiences, but the stories we tell are never directly lifted from our lives. And as we write, we begin to see our ideas more clearly, to develop new ideas, and by the time we have a somewhat finished product the idea might have changed considerably. It’s always a concept we can relate to, though.

[Jon] It’s definitely hard to be completely vulnerable, but there are two aspects to music - the composer and the listener. Music is just the notes and the words, and they mean something different to everyone. And so the idea, when you’re writing a song, is to write something that speaks to you but is open for everyone to understand. And that makes it easier, because you’re not so much saying - “here’s my heart, let me pour it out in front of you,” it’s more like, “sometimes I feel this way, do you, too?” The intention as a composer isn’t to define everyone else’s experience.
