Today we celebrate Finlands independence day. With 105 years of independence and mostly peace, it is easy to get comfortable in the stability we have achieved. World politics change though. And with that, our own trajectory must adapt as a whole. Our society is never done. It is never finished. As we grow old, younger people take our place. It is their world then. So don't ask what is best for us, here, now. Ask what will be good for everyone in the long run. Equality. Justice. Prosperity. Political slogans, but certainly things that we can not take for granted. Especially seeing what is happening in the world around us. The world is a work in progress. Always will be. Today, was a full day of cleaning and setup, as well as a bit of smelting. Smelting down old spent bullet shells we had lying around. Its kind of recycling... We also spent a good chunck of the day focused on cleaning up winter's production, preparing for more video production, and shot a few videos of the casting, unfortunately, all we got was the second pour which was mostly slag. If you own a belt grinder you understand just what an investment replacement belts for that tool can be. @benchmarkabrasives sent me two products to test and I'm very pleased with the results. One of them is an eraser type material that cleans the build-up out of your belts and I would say it rejuvenates them so you get more life out of them. The other is a belt lubricant or almost like a belt Greece or belt butter. You apply it lightly to the belt before you grind with it it keeps the belt cool extendeding the life of the belt and also prevents buildup. On top of smelling good I prefer this method over water to cool my belts and work pieces.
