So I just recently got home from visiting my family in canada, it was a very last minute trip but I needed to see my family. in a year we've lost 3 family members, the latest being my oma and opa, who passed away within 2 months of each other.
I was able to bring my omas knitting needles home with me.
I keep bringing them down off the shelf I'm keeping them on to stare at and admire and remember the many evenings of downtime after helping my oma and opa with their farm chores where she'd sit in her favourite chair and work on socks for one of my family members and it mesmerised me as a child. She's a big reason why I wanted to learn how to knit.
These needles have so much character to them, they are all bent in a certain way as she always knit lever/Irish cottage style, and almost all the tips are worn down from the many years of use. These needles are probably one of my most prized possessions now, and I know I'll treasure them for the rest of my life, and I can't wait to continue making socks for my family members on these same needles.

Small-size circulars?
Knitting people, do you have favorite circular needles? I'm struggling to find pertinent info. I have two requirements:
Not sharp. I routinely touch the point of my needle and even if it's easier to do fancy stitches with sharp needles, they just hurt for me to use
Smaller than a US size 4/ 3.5mm (ideally I'm looking for a 2.75 size needle, which just happens to be the size I always find myself reaching for)
Other things that would be nice would be:
metal (especially slick metal!)
interchangeable! (but I fear small-size, durable, well-made interchangeables are a fantasy unicorn, so my hopes are not up)

My first ever (complete, lol) pair of knitting needles were US 9 straight needles made of bamboo. Because they were my ONLY needles for so long, the needles actually started to curve to the shape of my hands! The older I got, the more nervous I was about breaking and/or losing these needles, since they mean so much to me.
So I officially retired them and got a tattoo in their honor!

I'm not sure how easy to see this is, but look at the interesting needles we found at the thrift store. They're labelled "5" (they're also in French, and this is far from the first French knitting needles I've found there that skips the units). I grabbed these from the bundle of needles my kids found for me, and while I was looking at the ends of the needle, I noticed that they were clearly smaller than the 4.5mm that was the smallest ones I wanted. It says 5, so obviously it was an American size 5 (since American needle sizes are smaller the smaller the needle). I called the child who had done the measuring over to gently tell her the problem, and she insisted that she'd measured them! I took a closer look and I saw the size change!
I actually really like this idea - personally I prefer to use circular needles, but this would give the same ease of sliding the stitches along the needle with the ability to hold the end of the needle under your arm or in your lap or whatever, for speed of knitting.

New yarn means new needles:

Basically just an excuse to buy Tulip knitting needles because they make my favourite sewing needles.
The Tulips are indeed impressive. Bamboo but as smooth as birch. Super sharp, super pale, nice and long, super smooth join.
The only problem is that I thought that Lion Brand 24/7 Cotton was chainette, but it's actually Z-twist! Z-twist is supposed to be great for crochet, but the way yarn is wrapped in knitting, it undoes the Z-twist (I don't know if you can see that in the last photo), making it super splitty and therefore totally inappropriate for my super pointy new needles. I had to go super slow and careful to keep from splitting pretty much every stitch for the first several rows. I'm getting the hang of it now, but I'm going to switch to my HiyaHiyas (which I never use because they're too short for me) to see if it helps.
Comparison of all my bamboo knitting needles:

Top to bottom:
2.25mm mystery fixed that I got at the Chaînon
3mm HiyaHiya interchangeable
3mm Tulip Knina Swivel fixed
3.25mm ChiaoGoo fixed (much edited with sandpaper)
3.75mm Clover Takumi interchangeable

when you tell yourself you aren’t going to start anymore projects until you finish a few of current wips but you have zero self control and cast on a new pair of socks that is really gonna be like 8 actual socks that you can mix and match

Hobbies: Knitting
Really, handknitting is a dreamy activity, built into many people's thumbs and fingers by genes already there, itching to display their skills and achievement possibilities.

Completed knitting dpn cosies. They’re all a little bit different because I played around with the pattern.
Snugglepot cosie is the vanilla pattern with 6 dpn slots and 8 large pockets.
One shramp cosie has added medium pockets & retaining elastics for the dpn pockets.
The other shramp I added a single elastic to hold all the pockets shut & enlarged the snap closure to flap.
