The smell of beer and spirits sits heavy on the air, three mutants – each with visible mutations – huddle together in a booth in the back corner, a mutant and a human – both queer – lean against the bar giggling to each other.    Psylocke sent someone in her stead this evening, citing a ‘prior commitment’. (Prior commitment his ass.) Until recently, the seat opposite Erik had been occupied by a young Spanish lad named Manuel. Streetwise and skinny, the kid’s abilities as an empath have made him an incredibly valuable part of Psylocke’s international mutant information network – something he knows and has used to his advantage on several occasions. Not today, though, because he had arrived at the meeting empty-handed. Erik is seeking information on the higher powers behind the recently destroyed decommissioned experimentation facility over in Greenville, but they are proving to be highly secretive and elusive. They probably know the ex-terrorist will decommission them if he finds out who they are.

   A signal to the bartender for another whiskey – the mutant will stay here until closing, not unusual for his visits – when an unfamiliar face pushes open the ornate door and steps inside. Blonde, petit and young, the stranger looks immediately out of place in this bar. Curious, and always on alert for danger, Erik makes no secret of his staring.

     THE RAIN WAS beginning to soak through her cloak, and she knew that she would need to find shelter quickly or risk getting sick from standing out in the storm for so long. even while she was still relatively close to hateno, wandering when she could barely see in front of her was not a good idea at all, and there was no way she would be able to find link in that weather. finding a place nearby to take shelter was clearly the best option.

     SEEING IT AS her best chance, zelda rushed towards the first cave she saw. she pulled her cloak back the moment that she was under the cave’s ceiling, ready to wait out the storm, but quickly realized that she wasn’t alone.

     SHE ALMOST TURNED and ran the moment she saw the dragon, just on instinct, but she paused. this was not the first dragon she had come face to face with. she had met the dragons that guarded each spring, and they had been kind. calm unless provoked by an enemy. she had no reason to believe that the dragon before her was any different, and she attempted to hold herself steady as she cleared her throat.
