Instead of a bounty plastered, this time, the merman noticed, the pirate had her face over a large poster, hung almost neatly just by the ship dock. He stayed hidden, still hearing footsteps and chattering echoing through the small port belonging to a small island he had just came across on.

He heard, despite the slurring words of those drunken humans, that the island is under the protection of the Butterfly Pirates ever since those -- what the government branded as criminals -- saved the natives of the island from nasty illness that had reduced the number of their populations. The government had deemed the islanders a 'loss cause' and abandoned them in time of needs. The pirates had saved them and the islanders were so grateful they even propped a picture of the captain by the dock.

He emerged out of his hidden spot once the coast was clear, propping his arms over the dock configuration, careful not to make loud splashing in the water as his eyes darted towards the taken picture of the Butterfly Pirates captain.

Gentle looking, her eyes were, even in the form of a picture. Unlike her bounty poster, she had her mouth opened in this one, the corner of her lips tucking up as if she was almost laughing while the photo was taken. It didn't matter what she wore in this poster or her bounty one, she could have worn a rug and still looked beautiful in it.

He tilted his head, eyes never left the poster, remembering the way this particular captain looked at him with no trace of judgement, eyes twinkling with no hostility and leaving him be in peace when he didn't reply when she greeted him.

" My, aren't you the prettiest merman I have ever laid my eyes on. "

He shuddered, feeling heat creeping up to his cheeks and ears as he recalled her sweet tone voice. Shaking his head, the merman dived back into the water, deciding that, while his dislike for humans still remained, it doesn't apply for this pirate with the name Kanae.

Crimes I think the Hashira were arrested for, but specifically the Kimetsu Academy AU:

- Like his ig story counterpart, Giyuu was once mistaken for being the perpetrator of a very serious murder. Something about his face and speed walking in the area close to the scene coincidentally got him arrested (tsutako was not happy)

- Sanemi was a delinquent in youth but besides throwing students out the window, he’s largely stayed out of trouble now for him mom. So general assault charges

- Muichiro has been talked to by a police man but only in the way that he’s a youngster with an attitude so they assume he’s up to smthn ( he’s not been caught if he did commit a crime ) Also petty theft (like a chocolate bar)

- Kanae got several warning for her plants growing into the neighbours gardens, she refuses to cut them.

- Obanai has been stopped on the street several times times for “looking suspicious” (he totally has a very illegal snake)(they don’t know that yet) He also has crucified his students, arguably a crime

- Mitsuri almost got them into an MLM, she fell for it and wanted to show them all the ‘free money’ they could get. Obanai had to explain it to her and she felt so bad

- People always assume Shinobu is younger than she actually is so suspicion tells to roll off of her like water off a ducks back

- Rengoku has disturbed the peace, he’s very loud and has been asked to leave the premises although he’s been getting better with it as of recent. He has also accidentally set fire to many things so accidental arson if that’s a charge

- Gyomei has done nothing wrong and will never do anything wrong

- Tengen has been arrested for speeding, just constantly and he does not show up to court for his ticket fines. Makio also speeds but reasonably.

Kimetsu Academy au!

Hashira high-school era!

(minus Mitsuri, Shinobu and Muichiro, plus Kagaya, Masachika and Murata.)

Tomioka liked hanging out in the kendō storage room, freely practicing in peace, not wanting to attract much attention to himself. He used to invite murata to spar from time to time. The janitor, Urokodaki, past kendō champion noticed and started making a training regime for them. After a while, people started noticing how worn out and bruised those two were after lunch, and were concerned, worried they might be bullied, and when they were asked about it, they replied saying : '' We're fine, we were just working in the kendō storage room. '' everyone knew there was more to it, but they left it at that.

Uzui is one of those rich kids with pressuring parents. He doesn't give two shits about studies, but he's surprisingly capable of acing his tests. After he graduates, his father and mother get into an accident, giving him the freedom to get into an arts university.

Iguro was fostered by the rengoku family after his family was locked up for abuse. He wasn't the most sociable person but he enjoyed Shinazugawa's company, they usually had lunch on the roof top silently enjoying the breeze.

Kanae was the one who got the group together for study sessions. They all got tutored by Himejima, since he was a university student at the time. She and Uzui even invited Ubuyashiki to join them, knowing full well he already had a tutor, but still wanting to spend time with him. (he's Tengen's age in canon, so it'd be nice to think of him enjoying his teenage years.)

Shinazugawa was one of the nicest kids in middle school, but after his dad got convincted, he had to go through so much emotional stress, and didn't have much free time to spend with his friends. He became more gruff and unfriendly, but his closest friends since middle school, Kanae, Giyuu and Masachika saw through the tough exterior, making sure to help out in anyway.

Rengoku was the one to introduce Tomioka to kendō, and was fully aware of his secret storage room practice with Urokodaki. He's waiting for the right moment to invite him for a spar at his dojo.

Himejima was the mama of the group, dropping by every now and then to check on the group, and taking them out for celebratory takoyaki on certain occasions. He tutored them in different subjects, and branded them as the 'Hashira', since each of them excelled in a certain subject, Shinazugawa= Mathematics, Kanae= Biology, Rengoku= History and so on. The hashira all deeply admire him, and he was what inspired the group to become teachers.

Ubuyashiki, being an only sick child and the heir to the school made him a very unapproachable and lonely person, not many people spoke to him outside of pleasantries. Uzui, sharing a class with him, decided to invite him to join the study group, followed by Kanae, since Ubuyashiki helped him out when he was in a pinch, and Kanae wanted to get to know him better. The hashira treated him as an equal, which made him feel very happy, he actually cried. His eyesight continued to worsen towards his 3rd year, and everyone's concerns increased. His sarcasm started to shine through after spending time with the hashira, gyomei slightly enjoys this side of him since it feels more free spirited, so he doesn't say anything about it. Ubuyashiki didn't really need to join the study group since he already had a private tutor, but he along with Murata were honorary members.

Masachika is a part of the hashira in this au, standing out in physics. He was introduced by Sanemi to the group, and he clicked well with everyone. He liked kendō, so he tried going against Giyuu, but not being able to keep up with him. He was on good terms with iguro and uzui, but they were never particularly close. He decided to teach uni students instead of school students after getting an offer from a prestigious university in Tokyo, and proceeded to be an aerodynamics professor. The hashira hold a dinner night at Rengoku's to catch up, let lose and watch a movie.

Murata, being a very excellent student never needed tutoring or study groups, but he enjoyed hanging out with the hashira, it felt like having friends. He wasn't the most outgoing person out there so he felt blessed after meeting them. He had a thing for marine life from an early age, so he moves on to be a marine biologist, getting him and kanae closer, leading them to becoming biobuddies, even having inside jokes. He joins hashira outings and get togethers, but becoming an honorary hashira along with Ubuyashiki. He feels very grateful for all the good times he could spend with everyone.

I'll be posting more about this, adding in some headcanons and all, I just need that beacon of motivation.

Sanemi liked running water. In between his angry comments, fierce battles, and carrying the burden of being the wind pillar, Kanae had seen him glance longingly at the waterfalls and quiet rivers they passed on their missions together. Sometimes, the softness of his eyes as he gazed would make Kanae stop and ponder their next move, or wonder if they were going the right way. Anything she could do to stall, just for a few more seconds, for the man whose eyes held thoughts she knew he would never share.

So it did not surprise her to find him by the river just off of Oyakata-sama’s property. He had excused himself stiffly once the sickly man had given them instructions for their next mission: a case of women going missing from a village. It was obvious that something about the mission had ticked him off. When Sanemi was really on edge, simply sitting in Oyakata-sama’s presence was enough to annoy him. The two men had respect for each other, but if Sanemi could force the man to stand and place a nichirin sword in his hand, he would do it in a heartbeat.

Sanemi was sitting cross-legged, eyes closed as he let the sounds of the current wash him away to a place of calm. Kanae didn’t want to bother him, but since everyone else tried to avoid him as much as possible, she figured she was the only one who could make sure he was alright.

“He shouldn’t be sending you to that village.” Kanae froze as Sanemi’s gruff voice rang out over the sounds of the rushing water. She smiled.

“You knew I was here.” She responded softly. Sanemi scoffed, fidgeting in his position until he settled comfortably again.

“Of course I did. I’m not deaf.” Kanae sat down beside him, legs folded to one side as she leaned back on her arms.

“He should not send you to the village.” He mumbled again, watching the fish make their way through the river, as quick and determined as he was. Kanae smiled.

“Nobody’s forcing me, Shinazugawa-san. I volunteered to go.” Kanae had offered to complete the mission. She had thought it would be the smartest decision, as the demon would be more likely to hunt after her, since she was a woman. Mitsuri had just joined their ranks, but she was merely a girl, nervous and untested. She did not want to put her life at risk as her senior.

She caught Sanemi staring at her arm. “You’re injured.” He argued. Kanae rubbed her shoulder, laughing softly.

“It’s merely a cut, I’ll be alright. Besides, Shinobu patched me up real nice.” Sanemi looked away once more.

“She’s just a kid, there’s still a lot she isn’t capable of.”

“Don’t let her hear you say that, or else she won’t agree to help you with your injuries anymore.” Kanae teased. Sanemi smiled softly.

“Sanemi.” Kanae’s voice was solemn. Sanemi tensed at the sound of his name.

“When I was told about those village women and girls, I couldn’t help but think of our young Mitsuri. My apprentices at the Butterfly Mansion.” She looked down at her hands. “My sister.” Shinobu’s short hair and butterfly berets flashed in Kanae’s mind. Her throat seemed to close.

“When I think of them, I can’t help but wonder how I’d feel if anything happened to them. These girls, these women, they’re being taken from their homes. Away from their spouses, their siblings, their parents, their children.” Sanemi was gazing at her now, and a part of her was reminded of an owl: the thoughtful, quiet, yet deadly predator of the night. Kanae held his gaze.

“I cannot allow the luxury of my wounds to keep me from saving them, bringing them back to their loved ones.” Kanae’s eyes were blurring with tears, and she blinked them away. Sanemi let out a slow breath.

“But what about you? You’re a liability right now. You will be slower than you usually are. What if the dangers are too much for your current state?” His voice held no anger, not even frustration. Just worry.

Kanae smiled. “Shinazugawa. If I avoid danger because of my injuries, or my fears, would I even be a hashira? Besides,” Kanae had scoot behind him, gently wrapping her arms around his waist and laying her head against his back. She could hear his breathing, feel his heartbeat, strong and steady, against her hands. “Danger is everywhere. It’s the beauty of life. I could just as easily choke on some food, or even fall into the water, as I could get hurt in battle. I could just as easily lose you, as you could me.” She smiled sadly. Sanemi was staring at the grass, hands grasping Kanae’s arms.

“So let’s not worry about those things, hmm? Let’s just live in our present moment, sitting next to this river and enjoying each other’s company.” Sanemi could feel Kanae’s gentle voice vibrate through him, resonate into his very soul. Imitating the frequency of his beating heart, as if they were calling out to one another, created one and the same. Only she could do this to him. Not the smoothness of his blade, the strength of his wind breathing, or the coolness of the flowing water before him.

When Sanemi was with her, the clutter of his mind was emptied, replaced only with a sense of serenity. Her voice was a tether, holding him down with thoughts of a small home in a valley, the scents of blooming flowers and the laughter of children playing on the hills. A world so very different from the one they lived in, but one he dared to dream of, only because she gave him a chance to dream.

Sanemi’s hands moved down her arms, until his fingers interlocked with hers. He couldn’t help the smile that dawned his face.

“Okay.”

Muichiro-

Muichiro squeezed your hand as the two of you walked down a path, you finally felt safe.. you have had such a troubling past, that it made it hard to trust, but you never gave up.

Muichiro would probably say that’s one of his favorite things about you; your Optimism. No matter how bad the situation is, you find a way to look at the good.

The two of you walked hand and hand in silence until you noticed a face that you knew you would never forget, your breath hitched as you stopped in your tracks.

The man smirked at you as he got closer, you tried to tug your boyfriend in the other direction, but it was too late. “What a coincidence see you here, it’s been what? 4 years doll? We’ve missed you.”

You just stared at the man, speechless. You felt hot tears fall down your face, as you stood there unable to speak or move. Muichiro looked at you then the man, “she’s fine; leave.” He spoke with anger laced in his voice.

“She can speak for herself.” The man spoke trying to get closer to you, Muichiro placed himself infront of you. “I know she can, but I’ll speak for her this one time. Get the fuck out of our face.” He spoke protectively.

The man just chuckled walking away, sure to caress your arm on his way out. You kept your composure till you knew he was gone, when he was gone you fell to the ground sobbing.

Muichiro pulled you into his chest, running his fingers through your hair whispering encouraging words in your ear. You sobbed into the man’s chest, gripping his shirt tightly.

Muichiro carried you hope as you sobbed in his chest, when the two of you got inside you ran into the room, sobbing under the sheets. You were usually so strong, this behavior was foreign to the man.

The man gathered some of your favorite snacks and drinks, carrying it in the room quietly. “Angel..?” He spoke gently, placing your stuff on the dresser.

You peaked out from under the covers slightly, looking at the man who had a soft smile on his face. “Wanna talk about it?” He asked as he got under the covers with you, pulling you against his chest.

“Maybe later babe.. right now, this is perfect.”

Genya-

Genya laid on his back, sleeping peacefully. He was a very light sleeper, so when he could sleep he enjoyed it. You were holding his hand dragging him toward a park that you had always wanted to go to, when he felt you tossing and turning beside him.

He opened an eye to see you panting heavily, sweating, while looking distressed in your sleep. This woke the man up instantly, he shook your body gently while trying to wake you, “babe?”

You whimpered while beginning to cry, “baby! Wake up!” You shot up with tears streaming down your face. You gripped the man’s shirt, looking at him with hot tears streaming down your face.

“I… I’m sorry… you can go back to bed now… I’ll be back!” You spoke anxiously, before throwing the covers off your body, running to the bathroom locking the door behind you.

Genya knocked lightly on the door, right behind you, “open up baby..” he spoke gently on the other side of the door.

You unlocked the door before sliding down the wall sobbing into your knees as you pulled them close to your chest. Genya sighed softly, devastated to see you in such a stage. “Come here princess.” He spoke pulling you into his lap. You choked as you tried to speak to the man with you face stuffed into his chest.

“We don’t have to talk about it now dear.. just rest..”

Kanae-

Kanae walked beside you and Shinobu with a soft smile, you admired the woman as you were starstruck at the girl you called yours.

She giggled squeezing your hand, “I’m not going anywhere dear, you don’t have to stare.” You looked away feeling your face heat up, she had caught you in the act.

The three of you began to walk on a beautiful bridge, you were so distracted that you didn’t notice what was happening until shinobu began to get angry at the man that had the young girl by a rope, you looked at the scene appalled.

“Give her to us!” You demanded getting in the man’s face, clutching your sword. “She’s not for sale!” The man yelled, you felt yourself beginning to see red, so could kanae. She threw money up, as you sliced the rope. Shinobu grabbed the girl running away with kanae and you.

You looked down feeling the rage still coursing through your veins, when the four of you arrived at the butterfly mansion, shinobu took the girl away. You went away from the trio, feeling like you needed to get away.

Kanae rushed behind you, grabbing your arm to turn you toward her. “Are you okay, love?” She asked looking at your angered state. You just nodded your head, not wanting to verbally respond.

“Whatever’s wrong, we can talk about it babe.” She spoke gently pulling you closer to her. “I just remember when I was in her position…” you whispered looking down feeling the tears roll down your face.

“Oh love.. let it out.. let’s go lay down and talk about it.”
