I suppose the thing that makes me foaming at the mouth feral about hotel del luna and man-wol/chan-sung specifically is that the whole running joke about chan-sung being nothing more than a weak, fragile mortal and a coward in comparison to man-wol is actually... completely untrue and terribly tragic because while, yes, he is physically inferior to a 1300 year old being incapable of death, he's really 10x more brave than man-wol will ever be. he overcomes his initial fear of the ghosts and man-wol herself and keeps coming back time and again bc he has a good heart that wants to see people's souls cared for before the afterlife for than he wants to feel safe. He isn't afraid to announce his love for man-wol and admit that he, as a man, is in need of her protection. Even when that love is given in the face of grave danger to himself. Man-wol believes that by being cold, detached, cruel and powerful, she is untouchable but in fact, she is so easily broken by her past heart ache that happened a millennium ago. She hides in the hotel and behind her facade of selfishness and greed to hide the fact that she is truly a bottomless pit of desperation for love. She is terrified of losing Chan-sung but is just as terrified of admitting that she loves him. When Chan-sung tells her "Maybe the petals on your tree are falling onto me, and they are the burden I, a weak mortal, must carry for loving you. For loving something that will not last and that I am going to lose." JANG MAN-WOL COULD NEVER. he loves her enough to give that love even knowing he will have to let her go soon and will have to stay behind dealing with the grief and the loss. and what could be braver than that,???

2. Hotel Del Luna (2019)

Till this date Hotel Del Luna is one of the most unique dramas to be ever made. From the plot to the characterization, everything is unmatched. This 2019 fantasy drama deals with the story of a supernatural hotel, where the souls of deceased people come and rest for a few days before they carry on their journey towards their next life. Hotel Del Luna is run by Jung Man Wol, played by IU, who is bound to this hotel in a neither alive nor dead state due to the sins she committed in her lifetime. The only way Jung Man Wol can break free is by seeing off the very last guest of the hotel. However, for that she needs some assistance and that is provided by the hotel’s new manager Koo Chan Sung, played by Yoo Jin Goo. The story unfolds one by one as Man Wol and Chan Sung solve various issues associated with the guests of the hotel, gradually seeing off the staff Man Wol has worked closely with. This magical theme of the drama goes hand in hand with the philosophical development. Man Wol and Chan Sung duo sometimes fight evil spirits with magical powers and sometimes they root for helping out their ghost guests with their (freshly-ended) life conflicts as they keep on entertaining the viewers without a single boring episode. Hotel Del Luna not only brings a magical refreshment but also enriches the viewers with some crucial life lessons in a very philosophical way. And that is what makes it a must watch for you.

3. Tale of the Nine tailed (2020)

Are you interested in Korean folklore? And do you enjoy horror? If yes, then Tale of the Nine Tailed is the right drama for you. This 2020 drama tells of a tale associated with a Gumiho, nine tailed fox and his immortal journey to find his first love’s reincarnated version in 2020. Lee Yeon, played by Lee Dong Wook, is a nine tailed fox who gave up his mountain spirit position to find his first love, A Eum, again. A Eum is now reincarnated as Nam Ji Ah, played by Jo Bo Ah, who comes across Lee Yeon while looking for her lost parents. The story progresses when Lee Rang, Lee Yeon’s brother (played by Kim Bum), wakes up the imoogi in order to take revenge on his brother. Imoogi, played by Lee Tae Ri, is the main villain of the story and makes the drama more and more intriguing. 4. The King: Eternal Monarch (2019)

Fantasy mixed with royalty, that too in modern context? Perfect, isn’t it? Yes, that is what you get from The King: Eternal Monarch. The story of this 2019 drama sets in place when the King of Kingdom of Corea, Lee Gon, played by Lee Min Ho, finds a door that leads him to a parallel world, and he lands in Republic of Korea. There he comes across Lieutenant Jung Tae Eul, played by Kim Go Eun, someone he already knew but never got to see before. They fall in love as the story progresses but start to face several complications as two different worlds start mixing up with each other due to the villain’s advances. The fantasia of this drama lies in the magical power of a royal flute, which can open doors to several different versions of the universe, can delay death and age, can change, stop and help in traveling through time. The drama is a perfect example of a rom-com with a magical backdrop, a perfect choice when you need something light-hearted yet thrilling to enjoy.

5. The Sound of Magic (2022)

“Annarasumanara” – the sound of magic, is the most realistic fantasy drama to be included in the list. This 2022 drama represents a perfect picturization of struggles and survivals. The story deals with the life of a young, intelligent yet poor schoolgirl Yoon Ah Yi, played by Choi Sung Eun. She fights for her survival each day as she tries to pay off her father’s debt while paying for her and her sister’s school fees all alone. By the turn of events, she meets Ri Eul, played by Ji Chang Wook, who is a magician sheltered in an abandoned amusement park. Ri Eul brings a wave of magic and happiness in the tough life of Yoon Ah Yi and soon they get another companion, Na Il Deung. Na Il Deung, played by Hwang In Youp, is Yoon Ah Yi’s classmate and the top student, who is immensely burdened with his parents’ expectations. Both of them try to find a respite from their real life struggles with the help of Ri Eul’s magic. With only 6 episodes this drama can make you cry and smile at the same time. The character of Ri Eul is so mysterious yet so touching that it will leave you wanting for more, especially because of the twist in the end.

Youngjae começou a atuar com 8 anos de idade apesar de não ter nenhuma experiência prévia e nem ter feito aulas de teatro até aquele momento, o garoto apenas foi participar da audição por influência de seus pais. Mas foi na atuação que ele encontrou seu grande talento, fazendo com que ele se animasse com a carreira e começasse a frequentar aulas de teatro para aperfeiçoar ainda mais. No seu terceiro ano como ator, participou de dois dramas fazendo os protagonistas mais jovens, o que fez com que ele conseguisse o prêmio de Melhor Ator Infantil por ambos. Apesar do sucesso, o jovem apenas havia atuado em papéis menores até o ano de 2012. Foi com o seu papel no drama Moon Embracing the Sun que ele ganhou popularidade, já que na época foi o drama com maior audiência, chegando a ganhar o título de “drama da nação”. Fazendo com que Youngjae conquistasse seu terceiro prêmio como ator, dessa vez na categoria Juvenil.

Mesmo com a popularidade elevada, Youngjae chegou a conseguir trabalhos como protagonista em diversos dramas durante sua carreira, mas infelizmente grande parte deles não foram de tanto sucesso como os anteriores. Ao contrário de seus filmes que apesar de não ser protagonista em grande maioria, serviu para manter a popularidade e o crescimento de sua coleção de prêmios. Foi apenas em 2019 que ele recebeu o convite para ser protagonista do drama Hotel del Luna, seu maior trabalho como ator principal. O drama ganhou muito reconhecimento comercial, o colocando nos holofotes de novo e sendo sua grande oportunidade de conseguir trabalhos tão bons como aquele.

Mas então veio a sua queda, rumores de que ele havia praticado bullying durante a escola tomaram conta da internet e até mesmo fotos alteradas de ocorrências estudantis foram publicadas. Um colega de classe havia lhe acusado de práticas violentas, chegando a falar que o rapaz por ser uma celebridade desde criança acreditava ser superior aos outros, os tratando com desprezo e violência. Nessa época Youngjae fazia parte da Cultural Media, empresa que ele havia sido contratado logo após sua abertura. A empresa em questão preferiu colocá-lo de hiatus por tempo indeterminado para conseguirem fazer as investigações necessárias sobre o caso. Com a repercussão negativa, o hiatus acabou se tornando seu momento de entrar para o serviço militar obrigatório, passando os 18 meses no exército enquanto a Cultural provava a sua inocência do caso, o que não demorou muito mais do que 3 meses. Apesar de ter sido comprovado sua inocência, algumas pessoas acreditam que a empresa usou sua influência para acobertá-lo. Mesmo após seu período no exército, Youngjae ficou afastado da televisão e dos cinemas por mais de um ano, por conta dos boatos da dívida de sua mãe, participando apenas de peças de teatros e programas de variedades, conquistando de volta seu público. Fez seu retorno em 2022 como protagonista do drama Link: Eat, Love, Kill e do filme Ditto.

Por conta de seus problemas familiares e de todos os boatos negativos, Youngjae foi um dos artistas a ser transferido para a Sense Entertainment assim que anunciado a abertura da nova subsidiária, passando por um sistema mais rígido que a empresa anterior com a ideia de evitar que novos rumores sejam lançados sobre o rapaz.
