why don’t more people talk about Inspector Koo?? it’s literally my favorite kdrama of all time, and just one of my favorite shows in general, and it deserves the attention of the world. i could write a whole ass essay about this show it’s literally the 8th wonder of the world.
it’s aesthetic and it’s intense and it’s hilarious. oh and it’s queer as hell. it’s literally based off of Killing Eve.
the greatest mystery in the universe is why this show is not a worldwide phenomenon. and i could rant about this all day but i won’t waste my energy.
so if anyone who hasn’t watched this show happens to see this, I AM COMMANDING YOU TO GO WATCH IT RIGHT NOW IT WILL NOT DISAPPOINT.

Parents (at least one) are THE WORST but Both Are Still Alive: Jang Shin-yu (Destined With You) Han Yi-joo (Perfect Marriage Revenge) Ko Mun-young** (It's Okay to Not be Okay) Mok Sol-hee (My Lovely Liar) Gu Won (King the Land) Crown Prince Lee Hwi/Dam-yi/Yeon-seon (The King's Affection) Do Bong-soon (Strong Woman Bong-Soon) Woo Young-woo (Extraordinary Attorney Woo)*** Jung Ji-woon (The King's Affection) Kang Bo-geol/Lee Ki-ho (Castaway Diva) Yeo Jeong-woo (Doctor Slump) Hong Hae-in (Queen of Tears)
Immortal Being that Still Somehow has Parent Issues: Myul Mang/Doom (Doom at your Service) Lee Yeon & Lee Rang (Tale of the Nine Tailed) Jeong Gu-won (My Demon)
Added trauma flavour: Parent was murdered in front of them (**Still counts if they survived the murder Parent tried to murder them Dying from seemingly incurable disease which makes their parents/guardian sad (If your parents are alive, you must pay for it by dying yourself) Adoptive parent/stepparent is THE WORST
Somehow has normal parents: Lee Jun-ho (Extraordinary Attorney Woo, Has no backstory at all. We only meet his older sister and hear nothing about his childhood.) Shin Ha-ri (Business Proposal, her family is refreshingly normal, right down to her brother being sent out to find her when she's drunk) Oh Han-byeol (Sh**ting Stars, Again, we know almost nothing about her family, only that she has twin sisters. But she doesn't appear to have childhood trauma.) Park Yeon-woo (The Story of Park's Marriage Contract, her mom being annoyed at her for something that is a crime doesn't count as bad parenting) Lee Young-joon/Sung-hyun (What's Wrong with Secretary Kim, his trauma comes from a kidnapper, his parents faced a pretty impossible situation and did their best. They clearly love their kids)
*Counting her as an orphan even though she gets her parents back after 20 years, she spent her childhood orphaned.
***This character is tricky because I understand why her mother wanted nothing to do with her, but her trying to manipulate the dad and also saying he didn't raise her properly made me so angry.

Inspector Koo - 9/10
I'm back on my K-drama bullshit again, and this time I watched the delightful Inspector Koo! This is going to sound weird but it seems to me that Inspector Koo took the best aspects of Hannibal and Killing Eve and then like... actually stuck the landing. It has the excellent cat and mouse game between two equally brilliant people who can understand the way the other person thinks in a way that few others can. It's also somewhat stylized. Not in the dakr and twisted way Hannibal was, but Inspector Koo still has that sense of surrealism that at times becomes darkly comedic. ALSO, it must be noted that all main characters are all women which is always a plus for me.
Tumblr media
Ok so. Lemme give you a more clear picture of the plot. The eponymous Inspector Koo (given name Kyung-yi) was a police detective until 5 years ago when her husband died by suicide (which she blames herself for). Now she mostly spends her time drinking beer and playing video games, but she gets pulled into investigating a serial killer when an old colleague who is now working as an investigator for a life insurance company asks Kyung-yi for help on a case. While looking into this potential insurance fraud, Kyung-yi uncovers a serial killer who is an expert at covering up their crimes, making them look like accidents or suicide.
And who is that killer? Why that is college student with a passion for theater, Song Yi-kyung! She gets inspiration from plays and has some real creativity in the ways she kills her victims. But! She only kills those that she believes deserves it, so in her mind, she's not doing anything wrong. But, you know, you really can't just go around administering justice however you see fit. So yeah, at the heart of the show is this back and forth battle of wits between Kyung-yi and Yi-kyung, as Kyung-yi works to catch Yi-kyung while Yi-kyung cleverly evades her.
Then in the background of all of this, there's another powerful woman who is trying to manipulate events to her own end. I won't spoil too much about her, but Director Yoon Yong-sook oversees a children's charity and has a son with political ambitions that she wants to see come to fruition. She reaches out to Kyung-yi, wanting to work together to catch the mysterious serial killer, but to what end? What is her motivation?
The secondary characters are all rather delightful as well and create a pretty rich tapestry for the show as a whole. I enjoyed the HELL out of Inspector Koo and would absolutely recommend it, especially to those new to K-dramas because it's a pretty accessible show to those unfamiliar with K-dramas.

honestly I don't know who to scream at, sorry that I picked you at random, but WHY ARE THERE NO FICS FOR INSPECTOR KOO? there is so much to explore there... I just don't understand...
hi anon!!!!! please never apologize for picking me to scream at especially about shows, writing, pairings, plots, scenes, etc! i love getting asks like this! 🖤
hmmm for me personally i think it’s my adhd and because the story was written a little rigidly, especially for kyung-yi/yi kyung—they had a reason to exist and a specific way to respond to everything— i never really think to myself ‘oh what if I changed this’ or ‘if this happened…’ because the leads do what i except them to do and although there is some great acting between the two woman leads there isn’t a strong chemistry that could lead to romance or love or any intense feelings— they feel very… rivalry like two people on the same team who just want to keep one upping each other.
the two pairings that i find myself going back to are kyung yi/santa and geon wook/do hae but they didn’t really give us a lot to go on and the most interesting would be geon wook/do hae to me. (geon wook was my favorite character not gonna lie) i could see myself writing a few fics for both of these pairings but they would be very fluffy and me just giving them endings i prefer (especially my two gays).
so to (hopefully) answer your question i think the show was really great and i liked watching it but the rigid writing and the main chemistry being between the side gay couple sort of settles it in my brain as a —completed show about murder. i’m not actually sure if that makes sense but to me this is a show i would make posts on and rant about the cinematography and how lee hong nae is acting his ass off as these morally ambiguous characters and should keep getting complex rolls… and then maybe randomly write a fic when i got the inspiration or there was like an inspector koo writing week.

Sinn ended up as a mercenary on accident by making friends with the wrong kind of people. However, she got such a thrill out of it and picked up the skills easily enough that she took it on as her career. Ulrich took her under his wing and taught her everything she needed to know to survive in this business.
Her mother was killed by her father when she was a teenager. Her father had taken out a hefty life insurance policy on her mother and he had her killed in a hit and run incident.
Upon her mother’s death, her father remarried another woman rather quickly. Sinn has hated her ever since she was brought into her life. Due to this, she became suspicious of her mother’s untimely death and found out the truth. The fact that she had never been close to either parent is why she never did anything about it initially.
Once she was allowed to move out on her own, Sinn blackmailed her father into giving her some kind of inheritance and monthly income to keep her quiet about his part in her mother’s death. Due to the amount of evidence she had on him for it, he reluctantly agreed. Aside from the monthly deposits into her account, Sinn has no contact with her father or stepmother.

So Ji-sub and Shin Sung-rok signed a contract
Tumblr media
‘Doctor Royer’ So Ji-sub and Shin Sung-rok became a team.
In the MBC Friday-Saturday drama 'Doctor Royer', which was broadcast on the 17th, Han Yi-han (So Ji-sub) tried to prove the medical negligence of Banseok Hospital.
On this day, Geum Seok-young (Lim Soo-hyang) received a report that she was using drugs at Banseok Hospital. The suspect reported, "She goes to the penthouse. The young men and women must be on drugs."
Lee Do-hyeong (Choi Deok-moon) reported something strange to Ko Koo-seong (Lee Dong-ha), and said, "I heard that the prosecutor of the Central Prosecutor's Office is at the front door? At this, Koo Ji-sung laughed and said, "Drugs?"
Goo Seong-seong suggested to Geum Seok-young, "You came after receiving a drug report? Let's go to the exclusive entrance to the penthouse together." Michael Young (Kim Tae-gyeom), who conveyed the situation, said to Han Yi-han (So Ji-sub), "You need to wake up right away. Security called, and the prosecution received a report. Both of you should wake up as soon as possible." While Michael Young took the time, Han Yi-Han finished first aid for Lim Yuna (Lee Joo-bin) and Jayden Lee (Shin Seong-rok).
Seok-Young Keum entered the penthouse, but Jayden Lee explained, "Drugs? Maybe. I was in legal counsel," she explained. Then he said, "How did you get here by the way?"
Geum Seok-young pressured Han Yi-han, saying, "Is this an injection? It's used for hospital administration. Did you use this drug?" Han Yi-han said, "I can't explain it here, but it was an unavoidable situation. Please take Ko Koo-seong out." "Suk-ju, it's not medical malpractice. He was murdered. Banseok Hospital Gu Jin-gi (Lee Kyung-young), Lee Do-hyeong (Choi Deok-moon) , Jo Jung-hyeon (Kim Ho-jeong) and the three of them took out the heart of Seok-ju, who was recovering from the Ban-seok hospital."
Jayden Lee thanked Han, saying, "Thank you, Mr. Han, if it hadn't been for him, he would have been knocked down." At this, Han Yi-han said, "It seems like it was my side that was hurt," and threw a fist.
Then he said, "Is it your fault that you reported drugs to the prosecution? Everything that happened here today was made up by you. Not anywhere else, but in the Penthouse of Ban Seok-won, you had an affair with Koo Ji-sung taking drugs."
He continued, "The moment I was about to take the second dose of naloxone, he pretended to be conscious and blocked me, and the one who came to receive a drug report was a prosecutor who had a deep connection with Banseok Hospital. And the last thing was that he called me here. You must have believed it. Create a crisis situation, control it, and turn it into an advantageous situation. It’s all up to you.”
Upon hearing that, Jaden Lee said, "It's great. But even if it's true, I can't tell you about it. You're my lawyer and you have a duty of confidentiality. I needed to check your abilities. Mr. ' he suggested.
Han Yi-han and Pyo Eun-sil (Woo Hyun-joo) had a tense confrontation in the courtroom. Gil So-yeon appealed for her injustice, saying, "The director is visiting the VIP. It's not a delusion. I heard it clearly. I said that the VIP came, so I had to go right now."
