What are your thoughts on KORAIL? (Korea's equivalent of Amtrak / only railway operating company)
I don't really know much about it but I have heard good things about the rail systems in Korea

Hi BPP,
I've been wondering about this for a while now. Why is twt army so hell bent on not sharing airport photos? I understand not sharing saesang pics and videos. But what's wrong with pics taken by media outlets? Doesn't Hybe literally inform them and pay them?
Celebs and idols do so much brand promotion on airports. The clothes, the accessories. I feel that it's meant to be seen. Sometimes reporters ask questions and celebs tell what are they travelling for, hence creating hype for their future work. Please correct if I'm wrong.
I do feel that given how bad the airport situation gets with fans and stalkers, shouldn't Korean airport authority make it illegal to film/photograph people unless they are a registered media body? Unless.....it is actually a publicity thing. The bigger the crowd and chaos, the bigger the celeb impact- people talk about it, compare crowd size for different celebs and so on. (Sadly, at the expense of the idol's safety)
And celebs and idols do go for private trips, using private entrance/exits. Labels can pay media to release photos later. I feel it's intentional if media is present at the airport.
I'm against stalkers and feel they should be de-platformed, but I don't see the problem with sharing photos by media outlets.

"But what's wrong with pics taken by media outlets? Doesn't Hybe literally inform them and pay them?"
Not always. A lot of flight information is gotten from airlines and airports. I'm making this point because it seems there's an impression here that someone within the company is always the person behind breaches like this. And while company leaks do happen, oftentimes travel leaks originate with airlines/train lines etc.
Recall for example how a KORAIL employee was discovered to have illegally accessed and leaked Namjoon's travel details for 3 years. That worker was recently reinstated in her job and rewarded with backpay, for breaking the law and violating Namjoon's privacy. There's more incentive for employees at these other places to sell this information, than there is for HYBE employees who are liable under several NDAs, so it's often airline employees selling travel details that typically makes its way to tabloid/local media newsmen. Saying this just as an FYI.

You're right. Idols go to the airport expecting to see a crowd, or at the very least, some media guys. Unless the group is extremely nugu there'll be a crowd waiting. And the idols/companies keep this in mind when styling for their departures/arrivals. It's a real part of idol culture. But so is mobbing. And that doesn't mean it should continue just because it's part of the culture.
That's why ARMYs are so against using/spreading pics/clips from sasaengs and fans at airports. Using those pics can be seen as validating and rewarding the stalker for creating a potentially unsafe environment for BTS. And this is besides the fact that some people who go to such lengths to see and try to touch BTS at airports, are mentally unstable. Putting it bluntly.
There's also more fans recently since k-pop has gotten bigger globally. Meaning there's also more people at airports, in more places inside and outside Korea, than ever before. And all that does is create more risk. Crowd crush accidents are painful and traumatic for everyone involved. All it takes is one idiot in a crowded place for it to start too. And the way things are going, if there aren't legal consequences and safeguards around airport fan send-offs at least in Korea put in place, it's only a matter of time before there's a horrible accident.
You're also right in thinking it makes no sense to demonize official media outlets given the idols do make an effort and expect to be photographed. It would be best for everyone if having media outlets present was just standardized somehow, but that also would do less to solve this issue than implementing legal consequences for showing up at the airport to send-off an idol.
Personally, I have little problem using or sharing airport pics. Because most of the time, I don't actually share anything. I don't seek their pics out but when I inevitably see them if I like any, I save them. And if I use them (like, say, on this blog) then it's probably because I don't care. It's possible I'm a hypocrite or I've rationalized it to myself by saying it's not like the person who took the pic is getting a dollar from me anyway. Or something along those lines.
ARMYs go overboard with everything. Including policing airport pics. I don't mind it because they're right and anything that discourages crowds of people from going to the airport gets a pass from me, and I'm honestly glad ARMY is one of the least tolerant fandoms, even though I also don't mind the pictures when I come across them.

Bangtan weekly report.
On the Street on first listen/MV watch did not make me warm and fuzzy. It was melancholy, it made me sad.
Watching it again and again, some of the imagery is hard to interpret, like the small sidewalk memorial off to the side with the yellow and white flowers.
But some of the other imagery was definitely obvious. The child representing Army (again). The location: Bowery Station.
The MV was not as dancey as I thought it would be. But since the moment I learned that J. Cole would be part of this I knew this was one of those full circle moments for Hobi.
Tumblr media
He preceded the premiere of the MV with a Weverse live on the banks of the Han River in Seoul. Walking around in public doing a live... we’ve come a long way people... I bet there was at least one security guy hovering out of the shot... hiding in the tall grass... somewhere nearby.
Tumblr media
Other developments this past week:
Tumblr media
When I said “Instagram is going to go silent for a while unless JK wipes his feed again” I didn’t mean wipe it and then delete it, you big dork!!!! Be furrrrrrreallllll.
The estimated “value” of JK’s instagram followers was $50 million USD. All those potential partnership companies gagged and choked.
Jungkook informed fans of his withdrawal from Instagram which had as many followers as South Korea's total population: 52.4 million. It was estimated the value of one posting for Jungkook would have exceeded 1 billion won or almost $766,000 USD. His account value would have been in the tens of billions of won.
Okay, Kookie... just keep doing you. I love you anyway.
In other news (unfortunately):
So, if the Korail employee knows private information such as addresses and such (scary and mind-boggling)... Namjoon would have no choice but to reveal information before anyone else has a chance to do it and incur any more damage to his reputation or compromise the information for anyone he knows if that’s the type of info they had access to. In other words, don’t be surprised when Namjoon reveals personal info before anyone else has a chance to do it.
I hope it is plain to see why Jimin doesn’t even let us know what color his walls are or to understand why Jungkook may have left Instagram. There is too much chance of anyone figuring out information just from being able to identify objects and things in photos. Who knows what other private info of theirs is already breached and in the hands of nefarious people.
It is so concerning to me that I even question when Jungkook gives us details about the amenities at Bam’s new training place. DON’T TELL US!
The Tiffany & Co. ambassadorship... and the dollars keep rolling in for our precious little 21st Century Pop Icon who is just our goofy friend in sweatpants who loves soju.
We all noticed Jimin seemed to be “naked” when he attended the Dior menswear show back in January. When I say naked, I mean he wasn’t wearing a single piece of jewelry. We know this man loves him some bangly bangles and dangly earrings and spangly necklaces. He never goes anywhere without his signature hoop earrings on so we all felt something was missing.
And now we know he had this Tiffany deal up his sleeve. Seems like he was cleansing himself of jewelry. Starting fresh by being jewelry free in front of millions of eyes just so he could follow up with a jewelry refresh. Jimin will have Tiffany’s classic and polished pieces flying out of jewelry stores. Get ready for the Jimin effect. I hope they manufactured enough to satisfy demand. I can’t wait for the knock-offs so I can afford to wear a few look-alikes.
Tumblr media
Busan Expo update video. Filmed last October or November?
Tumblr media
Inside Mang made me tear up. Their little virtual Mang interacting with Hobi was the sweetest thing. We will get a “real” Mang reveal soon!! Everything Hobi does is so well thought out. His attention to detail is astounding. I suppose Mang might serve a similar role that Wootteo did for Jin... (weeps).
Tumblr media
And Jimin on Insta and Weverse trying to catch up on the member’s content HE IS JUST LIKE ME! I CAN’T KEEP UP WITH ALL THE CONTENT EITHER, JIMIN!!!
Jimin is about to slap us in the face with FACE... hold on to your asses we’re about to go for a ride on the Jimin freight train soon.

Namjoon posting about that horrifying Korail employee story...
He’s getting more bold about just being like ‘fuck it and fuck these people’ and GOOD!! Buncha freaks and stalkers and losers. But this one needs to be imprisoned specifically. ‘’Employee A’’ fuck that, they don’t get to be anonymous for being a whole criminal.

“After some time passed, I became an engineer. My work had nothing to do with movies, but I never let go of the desire to try to do something, anything that was related to them. Then came the 2018 KORAIL Short Film Festival video contest. At first, I just went back and forth in my head, but I decided to give it a go right before the deadline. So I rushed to recruit my grandmother and people that I knew to be my actors, and I hurriedly reached out to a place that I remembered from a long time ago. I rented the place in such a hurry that I only had a few hours to film all the scenes. I figured that as long as I got all the scenes shot in the allotted time, I could use my editing skills to finish the film. There were thousands of submissions competing to be selected as one of the top 10, and mine won. I originally submitted it just for fun, for old times’ sake, because there was prize money involved. Later, I learned that the winning films would be screened in theaters. That’s how I got to see my film for real, in theaters.” “How was it?” “It was my first film in a theater, so it wasn’t perfect by any means. But I mean, it felt good. The scenes I’d thought about and imagined for so long were playing in an actual theater.”

Why the fans are the best privacy protection program.
Disclaimer:  This is a rant. I am ranting out of my personal experience as someone who has been working in the entertainment industry for 5+ years and has occasionally worked in security and hospitality for artists all over the globe. I am also an international specialist on enterprises and fan-centered programmes and have been in close proximity to governmental and international processes as well as criminal justice. Take it with a grain of salt, you know im always open for further discussion however please do so respectfully.
Hello I’m back with another rant after a long time. In light of what we’ve seen in the news today on Joon’s invasion of privacy I wanted to rant a bit on it given that it isn’t the first time this sort of thing has happened. I’ve refrained from ranting mostly because as you know by now, I’ve been working in the Kpop industry as of lately and as I’ve grown in the industry, it has come with greater knowledge but also greatest privacy on matters such as this one, so I’ll try to refrain from explicit details while also giving my two cents of expertise on the matter.
I’ve seen a lot of HYBE PROTECT JOON  along with hashtags and templates going around, and while yes, the artists protection should and surely does come mainly from their company, the invasion of privacy (especially in the Kpop industry) is a matter that runs far deeper than whatever massive security an artist could have.
Artists can have dozens of physical barriers to protect them, hundreds of security protocols that ensure they get in and out of places safely, yet all the while these procedures take them further away from their connection to fans and work a funny little something in people’s minds that ends up placing them even in more danger and prone to privacy invasion because of it just because some people strip them away from their humanity and places celebrities on a pedestal where the main train of thought is all they have and are today is thanks to their fans ergo, fans are entitled to know whatever they want to know about them. A statement that has its own in and outs of itself that can be talked about a whole bunch. Truth is, we’re all human and we are all entitled to our own privacy.
Say, and I’ll focus this on BTS only, Joon can stop going to temples, try and attend places quietly, people can clear out spaces in restaurants for Jimin, they can grant access after hours for Hobi, Jungkook can change time and time again his phone number, Yoongi can walk as fast as he can as he travels from place to place, Jin can exit airports through the diplomatic exit, Taehyung can ask for the company to clear out any rumours, all of the NDAs in the world could be signed, their company could coax industries, papers, magazines, news, enterprises, etc into signing a mutually beneficial convention, they could get an A-level security team wherever they go, yet- it is the mundane things and exposure that ends up getting to them. One that all of us are subjects to.
Think about it statistically, and just focusing in the Korail incident, just exactly how many people travel via rail in Korea daily, weekly, given that statistics report an approximate of 140 million people per year (just the ones operated by Korail) say, out of those 400,000 people traveling daily, what exactly is the catalyst of tracking down one person? (And I’m not even talking about how scary this fact is as general public)
Realistically speaking, as we live in what always seems to be the highest epitome of a capitalistic world, along with every crease it comes with its industry-driven system. Whatever platform, place, industry, website, etc. you input your data into, there’s someone on the other side that can and will have access to it. Security protocols be damned, if someone wants your data and you’ve provided it, they’ll have it, that is just- systematic.
So we must boil it down to a less reaching sphere of analysis. The individual one. Why would one person, potentially a worker, place their income in danger just to get some information about a particular person? Motivations, clearly, are unique and down to each individual case, however, for analytic reasons we must suppose the most likely one: they are able to sell it. Now, it’s borderline systematic, sure, we aren’t really questioning the moral of why they would sell it but rather a more objective approach: Why does it sell?
Why is there potentially someone out there willing to buy said information?
And now here we get to the ages old loop of capitalism and market law so bare with me. If personal information sells because someone is willing to buy. Why is this hypothetic person willing to buy? Same old story and brings us back to the beginning, because it sells. But hey, it doesn’t reach a market value necessarily. Celebrities privacy has a high price, which is why it is considered a luxury (yes, rough words and completely inhumane to talk about a person but hey, that’s capitalism to you) if only the fewest can have access to said information and it needs to remain mostly secret for it not to lose value, how exactly can one sell it? Easy, social media.
Privacy and personal information of celebrities is nothing less and nothing more than an access key to a greater assortment of stuff. Think: concert access, location, photos, information that can’t be verified, addresses, schedules. And it sells like no other on social media. Close up photos, rumours on new content, flight schedules, new projects that haven’t been officially announced, you name it, it is out there.
Revenue doesn’t necessarily means money during this time. Which is why fans are the most effective protection program. We cut the market law loop from the bud. If it doesn’t get interaction on social media, there is really no point in be willing to buy information to access to something that doesn’t sell, hence, there is not a worker willing to sell information that doesn’t get bought and ultimately never gets any attention at all.
Remember artists are human, just like all of us. They deserve their right to their privacy and we are obligated to remain as fans. Don’t give people the power to strip your faves away from their humanity. It takes less than three minutes to verify official content and to stop interacting with people that do nothing more than monetize of off people’s personal information.
I know it is a much more complex topic and it has a lot of geographical and cultural context waived into it, but this is just a brief rundown on the matter. Have a safe timezone and I’m sending you all much love.
Edit: if you’re interested in reading a bit more on PIPA and what (ideally) could happen in regards of its violation you can read a bit on it here (please know that this is a third party information and it isn’t the actual law in Korean, and remember that law is open to interpretation of the authorities)
