"For some people, their lives are ruled by one shocking event reverberating through their survival instincts. Life shrinks into a trap made up of a shimmering moment in the past, a trap where they endlessly repeat that singular moment when they were surest of being alive. That moment is short, but long after it has passed, good times as well as bad slip like sand through their fingers as they meaninglessly repeat and confirm their survival." - Cursed Bunny by Bora Chung Reading Cursed Bunny is like reading series of absurdities. From the story of a "shitty" neglected baby to a cursed bunny. All of these has a similarity: most of the characters are somehow lonely, gray - often dark and kind-of gloomy. But what connects the dots and make these stories beautiful are also but their portrayal which depicts the series of events we often experience in our real life. I firstly questioned myself: "what does Bora Chung want to say through these allegories of "shitty" baby, prego woman looking for a husband, the amulet and a cursed bunny?" I think so hard to play a Sherlockian game and I neglected the joys of reading these stories. However, thanks yo KEBAB that conducted a discussion which required me to reread the book. I later reread Cursed Bunny in English and Bahasa Indo version- shipped by Penerbit Haru from Jakarta to Bangkok. Gosh I love the language fluidity in the English (by Anton Hur) and the Indo version is. During rereading, I shut down my thoughts and just tried to enjoy the words and the absurdities Bora tells me in this book. It's so chilling and less stressful - I must say lol. It may be years since its publication but Cursed Bunny is still a good choice for one to read (and to laugh for all the absurdities there). I am so happy to grab several books from the Translating Feminism series published by Tilted Axis Press. They're hard to find! The word feminism speaks out loud ey? A powerful word which cannot be taken lightly but can be intepreted and implemented in different ways based on one's life experience. Against Healing is one of the book which suits the definition. The nine Korean poets whose works are compiled in this chapbook do not look for any justifications nor any supports, pity or remedies. They write about their trauma, violence, the brutality they have faced. Through all their writings, you can simply see that they write to pour their heart out as a woman: how they experience loneliness, the love starvation. They take you to a journey when they become a mother or when they have to abort the dearest little one. They write; so, their voice can be heard. They write; as a media to declare their pains and the hardship they go through their womanhood. Those writings can speak to you out loud like what they did to me. Some even make me rolling my eyeballs out. *sob sob* Their writings are not only a piece of literary work, yet a gem which you can interpret based on your experience and relate it to your life. Today is National Handwriting Day. In this book, you’ll see some beautiful examples of Korean handwriting, whether brushes and bamboo on paper  or script on fabric, ceramics, and metal.
"Offering an extraordinary window into Korean culture, Beyond Line: The Art of Korean Writing brings a multidisciplinary approach to the history of Korean writing--from the earliest texts from the Three Kingdoms period to its use in contemporary art. This volume discusses the social and cultural conditions that led to the creation of calligraphic works by a wide range of people, including kings, queens, officials, scholars, painters, monks, and even slaves. It also explores the variety of materials employed in the creation of the art--from paper, ink, and bamboo to ceramics, silk, and metal. In addition, it looks at how calligraphy was used both to maintain Korea's historical class structure and, as literacy spread, to incite social change for women, merchants, and other segments of society. The authors explore how the invention of the hangeul phonetic script led to a more global identity for Korea, and how this script continues to shape contemporary art and design. Beyond Line illuminates the restrained beauty, strength, and flexibility of Korean calligraphy."-- from publisher.

It's been a while since I decorated my own name card. So, now that I'm joining the K:ONNECT Summer Festa by @annyeong_korea_official, we have to make our own name cards with our Korean names written on it. As for me, my Korean name is 김민주 (Kim Min-joo), which I made this a few weeks before the finals. Then, I decorated my name card with metallic marker, as I'm a fan of metallic effect. Enjoy!

This book follows the story of Yunjae, who was born with a brain condition called Alexithymia that makes it hard for him to feel emotions. He was labelled as a monster for his condition which is understood in society and often leads to prejudice and discrimination. Yunjae also got outcasted among his friends for his inability to feel anything. Through Yunjae's victimization from his society due to his oddness, isn't it so funny when we think how society dictates our movements and putting a label on some of us simply because we experience different kinds of living? I couldn't see this book to be as impactful if it was taken from a different culture. But I am sure that the socio-labelling will also occur not only in Korea but also in other parts of the world. I also happened to enjoy the symbolism, allegories and the philosophies that this book offers. They're simply there to deliver the powerful message to its readers regarding to issues aforementioned. Meet Scraggly, a little dog and the hardship that she has been through as she lives with his owner, the old couple Grandma and Grandpa Screecher. Grandpa is a grumpy old man but Scraggly proves to be a loyal and obedient companion to him. Both of them came to old age together and the end of the simple story will make you go sighing (for good reasons) in the end. I kindda miss my fluffy babies in Indonesia and reading this book is such a remedy tho. A short book that one can finish at one sitting but its story is so sweet and touching. ❤️ My recommendations are (1) not to read the story to your children if they’re below 10 yo. They may end up crying and being upset with the ending. (2) get yourself a pack of Kleenex; the simplicity of the story about the dog and her master will touch your heart and roll your eyeballs out. PS: the book was available at Amazon Kindle for an affordable price IDR 14k. I'm so excited to read these @strangerspress chapbooks by Korean writers! These three were written by authors my mom likes so they're first on my list. * I love that there are so many Korean works getting translated now, because I can read them in English while my mom reads them in Korean. * #funaekreads #funaekbooks #instabooks #instareads #strangerspress #chapbooks #yeoyu #translatedfiction #Koreanwriters #Koreanauthors https://www.instagram.com/p/BzO98pQAoc4/?igshid=i8z361cstwbj
