Ok so I wanted to ask…if Lee know would start to be interested in a person what would he be like? Would he deny it, be very slow and just like anxious? Would he get rather soft with his crush or just very teasy and bold and flirty? And would he do the first step? I can see all of it happening and I need to hear your take on it.🫶
Ooooh, okay so this is a great question to ask and I have spoken about this before but with Lee Know's Scorpio Mercury he is private and quite secretive with his feelings.
So I think he would be soft with his crush and his signs of infatuation would be quite subtle, a lingering glance here or making you pudding or showing you photos of his cats.
I think with his Scorpio stellium that he has a more traditional way of viewing relationships and so I think he would DEFINITELY initiate and confess first, I don't think it would be a grandiose, lavish confession but intimate, heartfelt and romantic.
Like inviting you out on a late-night walk and you would get cold and so he offers you his jacket and before you depart for the night, he takes your hand in his and stares at you with tenderness.
'I really like you, I want more, I want us, I want you to be mine'.

jun + jeonghan pairing (junhan)
As mentioned in my juncheol analysis, I've STILL been seeing ppl talk bad about jun's relationship with the members so here's a quick analysis to show his dynamic with each, specifically junhan!
I feel like this pairing isn’t a rare sight to see because they actually often sit close to one another (whether intentional or not) so interactions are kinda inevitable.
BUT even so, I feel like this isn’t a popular ship because most of their interactions (similar to nearly all jun pairings) are very lowkey.
Ok so now to start, I feel the need to point out that while Jeonghan is one of the members close to EVERYONE, there’s still something so refreshing about this duo. It isn’t as chaotic as the typical seventeen pairing you’d probably expect but instead, they’re both very soft for each other!
For example, Jeonghan is SO supportive of Jun, hyping him up every chance he gets. (Insert clips of jh saying “baksu” everytime jun says or does literally ANYTHING HUHU cuties)
Jeonghan is also naturally clingy but I still find it so adorable when he clings onto Jun. (It’s usually jh grabbing jun’s arm or leaning on his shoulders) Mostly because I feel like Jun tends to get awkward with physical touch NOT initiated by him so the fact that he lets Jeonghan be that clingy is so cute. It also seems like he doesn’t mind, showing how it’s a natural and regular occurrence.
Observing their other interactions, I also noticed how Jun would often go to Jeonghan when he’s curious about something. You would always catch them whispering whether in the background of some gose episodes or even in random concert clips. The fact that this is a recurring thing means that he trusts Jeonghan enough to respond well to whatever he has to say.
Jun also seems like the type to hesitate to ask for favors so when he asked Jeonghan to buy him a blanket in one of their content (either gose or in the soop sorry I don't remember) I WENT SOFT ON MY KNEES! It was just so nice seeing Jun ask Jeonghan with a soft voice and the latter responding the same way!
NOTE: I think it’s undeniable that Jeonghan is naturally reliable but I find it so wholesome when more quiet members like Jun express their gratitude because of how caring Jeonghan is. I find it so touching how Jun takes note of the little things and Jeonghan gets appreciated for being the members’ emotional support system.
In relation to this, the last point I’d like to make is when Jeonghan acts like a younger brother to Jun! This is particularly important to me because as we all know, Jun was like Seventeen’s “mother” before Jeonghan came so it’s nice to see Jun take care of the former for a change! Here are specific moments:
Do you remember that vlive where Jeonghan shared a story about jokingly (?) asking Jun to buy him a lego set? Jh wasn’t really expecting anything since it was a bit expensive, but Jun still bought it for him the next day because his hyung wanted it.
There’s also a part in the dingo drinking video where Jun reminded Jeonghan to slow down/calm down a bit because his arm injury wasn’t fully healed at the time.
Jeonghan also shared that Jun would NOT move an inch if you lay on his lap no matter how uncomfortable he may feel.
Idk about you but these give such big brother energy AND I LIVE FOR IT!
Overall, I love how even though they’re both known as the pranksters of svt, their relationship is actually very soft and they get along really well!

Something I found striking in the video is that when yeonjun collapses with his motorbike, the train passes by in the background, indicating time keeps moving forward but he's still stuck/stationary. It's only when the others join him that he's able to see the fox, and says he'll never forget. This suggests that reaching for one's dreams, understanding oneself, and finding true salvation is found not by individualistic pursuits but rather fueled by friendship and community, which is such a beautiful and prevalent theme throughout txt's discography

ok nana unsubtly kicked me in the ass about this and i realized they were mostly done anyways so here we go! only four months late!
best stylings 2023 - first half
runners' up
rising - triples
there are two good stages with funky athletic wear, but it wasn't enough to bump it up to the overall category. mcountdown 230216, the show 230221
abyss - woodz
didn't promote it which is a shame, but the variety in the costuming for the different versions of himself is well done and it's a beautifully shot bottle mv.
moody - superkind
you got a fake member you gotta make it spooky!!! he's not real that's inherently spooky!!! anyways this is what i wanted them to do right off the bat some i'm glad they finally got my psychic memo.
golden hour - mark
absolutely fucking crazy. fantastic imagery. i think i talked about it earlier in the year but it's such a stupid and hilarious idea to make a whole diss track mv about a several year old meme and then actually make it strange and weird art. obsessed with it still.
sos - kang daniel
i'm also including the wasteland music sequence here because holy shit when this dropped i lost my mind. i'm always surprised by what kang daniel does bc i can never predict it, which over the last few years i'm coming to enjoy. and i absolutely did not expect him to produce basically an entire wild west mad max movie with equal the production value???? literally how did he do this. how. and then everyone paid it dirt??? it's an amazing mv and one of my faves of the year, the only reason it's not bumped up categories is bc although the styling was actually one of the only times tactical gear has been thematically relevant to a cb, its been so overused that it has no punch anymore, which makes me sad bc the tactical gear was good! and a good choice! and i feel bad saying it has no punch bc it should have!
small talk - kim sungkyu
we love when sungkyu acknowledges that he's annoying and a loser. all these outfits were so losercore. i loved this deviation from form for him; he's normally king wailer supreme, but he does smooth upbeat rock very well and it's a nice contrast with the capital y yearning that's in the bsides. it's only here bc he didn't promote much and i'm mad at him for putting dancing in the mv and then not dancing in any of the stages. mcountdown 230629, music core 230708, inkigayo 230709
ay-yo - nct 127
this is just here for taeyong's urchin outfit. well i'm a bit of liar it is actually a really fun early 00s inspired mv, but we all know the urchin outfit stole the show.
stamp on it - got the beat
i will hear NO slander against got the beat in this house, this was a great mv i love hot women planning a heist.
tricky house - xikers
FANTASTIC debut. does a really great job of establishing a character for them as a group and it's got such unique flavour. kq has made great use of their ateez money and also the lessons that they learned with ateez. i'm excited to see where xikers goes in the future, and since i'm writing this section from the future i can say that i do like where they've gone with full confidence. the only reason it didn't make the top list is bc the styling is kinda average for this era of kpop.
best overall
rose blossom - h1 key
youtube
i was aware of h1key before this but they hadn't really grabbed me, but damn this cb was so good. the mv is a nice mix of story and dance sections. plus a surreal section in the middle! and by virtue of being like the first cb of the year, they got the jump on this alt girl look that would be the dominating look for ggs this year. and i do think first did it best in this case, all the looks are smart with good group synergy and and a lot of creativity; when you do this type of alt-y punky style it's important that there's a diy element to it, which a lot of groups fail to grasp bc stylists are obsessed with luxury branding. h1key manages to avoid that mostly by being flops, but i'd like to believe its also bc their creative team cared about capturing the true spirit of the style.
stages: music bank 230106, mcountdown 230202, music bank 230203, mcountdown 230119, inkigayo 230108
tic tac - 8turn
youtube
honestly i was kinda ready to not like these guys since mnh shat the bed with chungha, but then i remembered that the mnh creative team is very good at their jobs, so here we are. this is one of the few debuts/cbs this year where every single stage was a hit and it was very hard to narrow down to just a few for here; lots of good emphasis on shape and colour and accent pieces with repeated motifs, which was a big part of the fashion in the 00s that they are remixing here. very strong debut especially for so early in the year and i'm looking forward to more.
stages: show champion 230208, mcountdown 230202, music bank 230203, show champion 230222, music core 230211, mcountdown 230223, music core 230225, inkigayo 230226
bonus: this absolutely hysterical 4minute cover (they even got the name bucket hats! not in the stage, but they had them in photos)
sweet juice - purple kiss
youtube
i'm not normally a fan of wes anderson or wes anderson inspired aesthetics because i find them too twee and perfect, but this wasn't too direct in it's inspirations and definitely had the spooky purki flavour. i really liked the uniformity of the costuming, both literally using uniform motifs and using the same fabrics; i really do miss the days when kpop costumes were design to actually be costumes with the group image in mind.
stages: mcountdown 230216, inkigayo 230219, music core 230225, music bank 230224, inkigayo 230226, music core 230304, inkigayo 230305
sour & sweet - bambam
youtube
bambam again proving that he's one of the few idols that knows his shit in terms of interesting styling. also if anyone knows where he filmed the mv/performance vid please tell me i need to know bc its so beautiful.
stages: mcountdown 230330, music bank 230331, inkigayo 230402, music bank 230407, music core 230408, inkigayo 230409,
bsides: music bank 230331, inkigayo 230409,
macarena - blitzers
youtube
i'm so so so glad blitzers got a bit more attention this year bc they deserve it and macarena was so good. perfect culmination of their goofy ass talents and the unusual creativity of their performance + creative directors. i'm even linking the mv teaser here bc its so goofy and offbeat and different. honestly i'd recommend watching as many of the stages as you can find bc they do different intros every time and it's very funny, but unfortunately tumblr has a link limit so i can't link them all.
stages: show champion 230426, music bank 230428, music core 230429, inkigayo 230430, inkigayo 230514, music core 230527
bouncy - ateez
youtube
yea yea yea nobody is surprised so sue me. this was a crazy followup to halazia and proved that ateez can deftly switch between serious dramatic performance and comedic but no less dramatic. i'm very happy to see how much work has been going into the main ateez mvs in the last year because it has very clear and striking direction that fits both their performance style and their creative ambition, as well as their growth as a group. also yea i'm not immune to neon cowboy shit.
stages: inkigayo 230618, music bank 230616, the show 230620, mcountdown 230622, music bank 230623, mcountdown 230629, music core 230701, inkigayo 230702
kick it 4 now - tnx
youtube
tnx had an absolutely banging 2023 and although kick it 4 now is has superior and more comprehensive production, love or die is also a very good cb, and both of them together have shown that they have a really good grasp on the genre of teen listlessness, from two different directions. kick it 4 now has been i think the most successful cb to actually capture the feel of first gen, and the creative team did a lot of extra work in order to pull that off. from all the graphic design to the goofy lil 90s style music show promos, to the styling, they had a clear goal and achieved it. i think it will be quite difficult for any other group to pull it off this thoroughly.
stages: music bank 230609 (the giant lyrics!!!), music core 230610, show champion 230614 (more giant lyrics!!), music core 230617, mcountdown 230622
shooting star + left right - xg
youtube
youtube
we all already know that left right was my most listened song this year, but the fact that the mv was b movie sci fi star trek themed? it's like simon made everything about this specifically for me thank you. xg blew everyone out of the water this year on every front; music, styling, choreography, you name it. i said i wanted groups to commit to their bits and i got it. they were completely unafraid to actually commit to the y2k nostalgia AND to harajuku styling; a lot of groups have weakly pawed at it but always back away due to the fact that harajuku and y2k are not actually 'pretty' fashion trends, which leaves their attempts half assed with no real understanding of why and how those trends happened. xg came saw and conquered the current trend in a way that only a japanese gg can do. my only annoyance is that they tone down the stylings when they promote on music shows, and i know why they do it, so it's not an annoyance at them, it's an annoyance at everyone else.
stages: shooting star - mcountdown 230202, con-tour 230217, the show 230221, inkigayo 230212, inkigayo 230205, con-tour 230224
left right - the show 230228, show champion 230222
circle - onew
youtube
absolute masterpiece. album of the year in every way. it's a profoundly beautiful unpacking of grief and the sadness that comes with acknowledging that things change, and the way that in that change life and humanity and story is eternal. a circle. the theatre imagery combined with the 60s style children's tv show use their similar but contrasting forms to illustrate the same point: something can be eternal and fleeting at the same time, and that heightens its value rather than diminishing it. the promo campaign was so thought out as well, i love the integration of the theatre imagery into the highlight medley and i highly recommend you watch it if you haven't. one of the best cbs from a solo artist in years.
stages: mcountdown 230309, music core 230311, music bank 230317, inkigayo 230319
--
ignore the fact this was almost five months late even though i started writing in like. november. i'm busy ok. it's planting season and i have to send so much post. the choreos post is the next most finished so that will probably be out before the styling second half one.

Thoughts on Hueningkai's Lee Mujin Service Episode
aka fangirling over his vocals and rambling about the songs/genres we need to hear more of from him/TXT
youtube
In case you've missed it, TXT's Hueningkai appeared on the Lee Mujin Service series as part of their promotions for minisode 3: TOMORROW!
Although TXT has no official roles in the group (aside from leader), Kai and Taehyun are commonly regarded as being the "main vocals" of the group. That said, we don't really see a lot of group or solo activities for them to seriously show off their singing prowess so it's a welcome development to have them both star in Lee Mujin Service!
As an aside, I do adore the setup of Lee Mujin Service as it allows idols to showcase their vocals in a non-idol song or context. It's an opportunity for them to demonstrate their vocal range and their personal styles and tastes. I also like how they rearrange their title tracks to bring a new dimension to it, and the duet covers at the end are refreshing as we get to hear them sing with other artists (in this case, Lee Mujin)!
In this piece, I'll be reacting to the songs he performed in the episode and touch on previous covers and performances that highlight his perceived strengths. I'm no music expert so this could be a bit ramble-y and not very technical but I just wanted to highlight what I enjoyed about his feature and what I'd love to hear more of in the future. Let's get into it!
Deja Vu
The episode starts off with Kai's solo rendition of their title track, Deja Vu. If you've read through my earlier posts and reactions to TXT's music before, you'd know I love a good acoustic and/or band arrangement. I think it really allows you to focus more on the lyrics and the vocals. Kai has such strong vocals and with a stripped down arrangement, you get to better appreciate the power and emotions he pours into a track!
Ghost Town cover (originally by Benson Boone)
Mujin captured it perfectly when he described Kai’s voice as “far-reaching” because as I was listening to this cover, I thought that his voice was really carrying through my earphones.
I love hearing Kai singing in a lower register as I think his voice sounds so deep and rich, and what’s great about this track is that it also has moments wherein he goes in a higher and lighter tone and the contrast is so so beautiful, it's almost haunting 🥹
Mercy cover snippet (originally by Shawn Mendes)
Kai using his lovely lower register again. His voice really does carry and fills the entire room and that gravitas makes him a delight to watch.
A Flying Butterfly cover (originally by YB)
This may sound weird but when he was singing this, musical theater came to mind and I mean that in the best way possible!! I don’t speak Korean but it sounds like he enunciates so well, each and every word is so clear and there is palpable emotion in every line.
He makes those high and prolonged notes seem so effortless and powerful at the same time. And that last line?? Just... wow 😳
Mommae cover snippet (originally by Jay Park)
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Kai before and after singing Mommae 😂
I'd have to agree with Mujin when he said that it wasn’t that Kai doesn’t suit the song, it’s just that he as being awkward about it!! If Kai had committed to the bit,Ii honestly think he’d have us all sweating over that Mommae cover 🥵
Gravity cover (originally by John Mayer)
I enjoyed the contrast between Kai’s fuller voice and the airy quality of Mujin’s vocals. They bring such different energies to the song but it works out well.
Idk how to explain it, but Kai's vocals in Gravity are so college band heartthrob coded 🙈
So it makes sense that before the Gravity cover performance, Kai mentioned that if he would debut as a soloist, he’d like to go the rock band route and recruit the rest of TXT to join him 😂
On a more serious note, I would really love if Kai got to use his lower register and powerful belts more, and if got more rock/rock-inspired tracks from TXT as I think it suits their voices so well! Let’s look at the evidence, shall we?
0X1=LOVESONG
We can't talk about (pop) rock TXT without mentioning the queen, 0X1=LOVESONG 👑 The energy, the growls, the emotions. It's all here 😩
youtube
Endless Rain
Everyone remembers where they were when Kai hit (and sustained!!) that chills-inducing high note at 6:39 😵‍💫 When he mentioned his vocal strength was in "screaming" (idk how accurate the subs were in Lee Mujin), this was the performance that instantly came to mind. I'm never moving on from this stage.
youtube
Good Boy Gone Bad 2022 KBS Song Festival
Love this guitar-heavy treatment of GBGB! And 4:51 marks the growl heard around the world. Around this time, there were lots of rumors about them lipsyncing so they said, let's show them our mics are always on.
I can't find the live or behind footage where they talked about this year-end stage performance but I recall Kai saying that he was playing around with his vocals even more for that adlib (note change and all) but decided against it bc it would have been a bit much 😅
And have you seen them do tiktok dubs/lipsyncs? They're hilariously bad bc they can not lipsync for their lives 😭
youtube
Skipping Stones
Couldn't decide on which version to include so I placed both bc the vocals and instrumental talent deserve to be highlighted!!
When the live clip of the maknaes dropped, best believe I was screaming bc wdym my fave track from Freefall is getting a promotion?? and we have beomkai on guitar and bass??? THEY DID THIS FOR ME
youtube
And then the Tiny Desk Korea video dropped and it was like everything was right in the world again. The vocals and live band were immaculate, I tell you 😩
And all the members love this song and that was evident during the ACT: SWEET MIRAGE Finale shows where you'd see them singing along to the song even when it wasn't their turn 🥺
youtube
Youngblood cover
Kai wanting to form a rock band is perfect bc can you see/hear the vision???? I also loved the OT5 cover of Youngblood they did during Freeze era. This cover was recorded in 2021 I think, so imagine how it would be if they redid this now that his voice has matured, their skills have improved even more, and they're more confident too 😵‍💫
youtube
Quarter Life
I have mixed feelings about this track but firmly believe this should have been Beomgyu's song if he had more lines bc are we all hearing him???? The growl and the emotion reminds me so much of 0x1=LOVESONG (wherein it was Taehyun's raspy vocals that got me in a chokehold) so when I say that TXT can pull off a (rock) band concept, I mean all of them!!
Tumblr media
Anyway that's all I have for now. If you've read everything, thank you so much for taking the time to appreciate Kai's vocals and explore rock TXT with me!
If you have other performances you'd love to add or any thoughts to share, please reblog or leave a reply!

MASTERPOST: k-pop idols and personal color analysis
Tumblr media
↳ with a special masterclass on warm and cool undertones. welcome to the world of seasonal color typing.
this post is for you if:
you want to know what looks great on someone and why.
look for a timeless aesthetic theory that’s universally applicable on anybody.
like to train your eye with image analysis.
enjoy men’s couture, make-up and hair. i specialize in analysing the gentlemen, there’s fewer material on them out there.
want to see why k-pop idols get colors professionally draped to find out their best palette. (like nct’s ten below.)
Tumblr media
this post is not for you if:
you want quick & easy information. it takes time to learn and practice color analysis. but: i’ll show you some hacks, too, and give lots of visual examples.
seek to directly find your own best personal color palette. this is more about kpop styling > advice for self-typing.
are familiar with the topic and look for set-in-stone answers: just in advance, i’m not an outstanding typist. i’m better at explaining the system itself.
think i’ll hit you with the color wheel. yes, personal color is related to this; hue, tint, and shade. but that’s about it. we won’t use this model 😂
Tumblr media
that being said, let’s start without further ado:
INTRODUCING THE SIX COLOR FAMILIES.
(...if you want to note down any vital key words from this post, this is it)
how do we distinguish color in the most basic ways? with the following dichotomies.
↳ warm VS cool,
↳ soft VS bright,
↳ light VS deep.
NOTE - for some color analysts, soft is ‘muted’, bright is ‘clear’, and deep is called ‘dark’. it’s the same thing, i use both terms.
so far, so good. it’s pretty intuitive. but let’s understand how these categories come to be:
warm means added yellow. cool: of course, simply more blue.
soft means extra grey. bright has more saturation, strength.
light means more white added. deep means added black.
let’s sort some yoongi selfies into the 6 families so you can see what i mean. if you feel like he’s especially rocking the right-hand side, you will see where i’m going.
Tumblr media
how warm or cool = temperature of color.
how soft or saturated = chroma of color.
how dark or light = value or color.
as in these examples below (tentative, this is just an approximate illustration), every human being falls into one among six tonal color groupings that matches their appearance the very best.
Tumblr media
it makes them pop, even if other palettes might be great also it looks the most harmonious. it’s their home, their strongest suit. everybody has a skin undertone (≠ skin color) that’s either on par with cool or warm tones which is the primary distinction, and deep or light, bright or muted color. there are lots of possible options of color palettes for each family.
these 6 color families provide the subtypes of the 4 main ‘seasons’ which are the pillars of the whole system. hence, seasonal color analysis. this system has been around since the early last century and is as timeless as the name suggests.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
congruently, let’s distribute the subtypes:
two seasons are warm-toned (Spring/Autumn),
two are cool-toned (Summer/Winter),
two light (Spring/Summer),
two deep (Autumn/Winter),
two bright (Spring/Winter),
two soft (Summer/Autumn).
you’ll understand it in a minute. i found this graphic spectrum helpful, take a second to think it through — again we have temperature, value, chroma.
Tumblr media
say if the color is warm, it can only be spring or autumn. a light color can only be spring or summer. and so on. it’s that straightforward. there’s always two each. and every person’s best palette is found in one slice of this pie.
Tumblr media
i love the idea of comparing seasons to people. we’re working by exclusion principle/narrowing it down to type someone here. say, if an idol looks dashing in cool colors that are also very bright and deep, they are a winter.
Tumblr media
so that’s how the 6 families distribute among the four main categories. i know, it’s a lot to memorize. here’s a representative color each, and an overview that’s simpler.
Tumblr media
and yes, it’s quite literally the colors of landscapes during those times of the year. like in nature, all of us are either spring, summer, autumn, or winter (and one of three subcategories, so there are 12 possible types in total).
let’s use some broad examples to summarize:
1. spring colors are warm, bright, light (like a flowerbed or meadow in the morning) — stray kids’ felix
Tumblr media
2. summer colors are cool, soft, light (like the beach or city at daytime) — bts’ jimin
Tumblr media
3. autumn colors are warm, soft, deep (like falling leaves at dawn or a cozy home) — nct’s jaehyun
Tumblr media
4. winter colors are cool, bright, deep (like a snowy night or crisp barren landscape) — bts’ yoongi
Tumblr media
within these four archetypes, we can categorize the 6 color family subtypes as beautiful 12 (non-exhaustive, there are many more options) palettes. example:
Tumblr media
notice how:
the early two seasons are less shaded. spring and summer are very subtle.
spring/autumn have a lot of yellow base: they are GOLD.
vivid the later seasons are. autumn and winter are the pretty heavy ammo.
and how blue-base crisp and cool summer/winter look like: they are SILVER.
not all golds and silvers are created equal, some are lighter, other shades are deeper. but the general guideline for beginners is: cool season = blue/silver like yoongi and warm season = gold/yellow like namjoon. easy hack:
Tumblr media
both can look good on a person, but one either distracts from the face/doesn’t do anything for you while the other makes you glow refreshed. that’s how you differentiate. let’s figure out how we apply all of this when looking at pictures.
/// what the person’s best color palette does for them:
the outfit works together with the face.
a coherent impression is created.
the features are well-defined.
it’s a ‘wow’ moment. nothing is off.
the whites of the eye are emphasized.
you overlook blemishes; the person looks even and radiant.
a healthy, moderate shine appears.
it compliments the natural hair color (which is always your exact season)
your attention is on the face, not the styling.
the color feels modern, appropriate, interesting.
the right amount of contrast, tying everything together.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
/// meanwhile, how you know it’s NOT the individual’s personal color:
their skin appears a lot warmer or cooler than it usually is. #1 dead giveaway.
as i’ve heard korean color analysts say, ‘the head floats’: because it feels so separate from the color. (= too high contrast)
the garment casts weird shadows on their chin/cheeks/under the eyes etc. that don’t come from elsewhere.
it all doesn’t feel healthy and smooth.
it makes the skin seem greyed/dull, maybe paler, even blotchy.
it simply kills the vibe of the outfit. something is off, the clothing suspiciously washes them out. (=wrong undertone)
the color is odd, boring, or chaotic on them.
the jawline suddenly loses all previous definition, blends with the neck. or: the features are unusually severe.
Tumblr media
this is basically “style yoongi like a spring (=felix) VS style felix like a winter (=yoongi)”: the difference is immense between warm and cool tones. winter coloring craves so much opposing shades while a spring face is best complimented by no contrast at all. remember: spring is subtle, winter is heavy ammo. felix is a believable blonde because his season is very light and yellow-based.
let’s practice even more and go through all 4 seasons with taeyong’s ever-changing hair. little did we know: if it’s too bright, muted, or warm, his complexion also becomes brighter, softer, and warmer accordingly: to compensate/adapt to the surrounding color/pick up the reflection. but when he wears his best palette that is mostly black-based, it shows his face as it is: cool, strong, intense, and contrasting like winter.
Tumblr media
if that’s too difficult, let’s go back to do a simple gold VS silver example. that’s how you can tell that shinee’s taemin is cool-toned.
his recent eras have been more geared toward his undertone that is blue-based and sophisticated (silver, white/grey, blue) rather than warm, bold, and expressive (gold, orange, yellow).
the majority of warm colors look a little overstated or draining on him, while cool tones underline his sexy image just right.
Tumblr media
(the bottom left example isn’t a summer type outfit because it’s dark and saturated — but he can still pull it off since winter is also blue-based)
cool and warm tones can be applied to all people’s fashion and hair. what matches their complexion seamlessly, what makes them glow. every human being has a distinct palette.
what may look mediocre on a summer might feel hot on an autumn; every color can be interesting: on the right person. a clear white t-shirt (=cool tone) is meh? think again when a winter type wears it (bts’ taehyung).
Tumblr media
meanwhile, make no mistake: finding one’s season has nothing to do e.g. with how tan you are, or eye color. if someone has light skin, they are not automatically light spring or light summer. because ‘light’ is a color family in this system, not a name for a skin tone — just like having dark skin won’t make a person a dark winter or dark autumn type, for instance.
i’ll give an example outside of k-pop. my favorite football player, leroy sané (about time the world learns about this cutie). in his wardrobe, nothing does it like the light and radiant tone of spring. he wears the most extreme warm chroma kits with zero effort: while cool-toned, dark colors could never compete. he glows in bright clothes and exciting warm tones. because... he’s a clear spring type! 😍
Tumblr media Tumblr media
or say, if someone is naturally warm blonde: that doesn’t make them a spring or autumn automatically. it’s just that — the other way around! — people who are springs and autumns wear warm hair colors superbly well, e.g. stray kids’ hyunjin.
Tumblr media
so this is purely about which patterns of color assimilate the best to you as a holistic impression. the contrast level of your features overall is much more important, and how either cool or warm tones make you come to life. remember, gold or silver, and you need to know how intense they can go.
OVERVIEW
people with a warm skin undertone thrive in colors that are more upbeat, bright and vibrant with less contrast (spring), while others are suited by contrasting golden earth and jewel tones (autumn).
people with a cool skin undertone are flattered by colors that are more light silvery and pastel (summer), while others fit stronger icy tones that feature more extreme black and white contrast (winter).
Tumblr media
IMPORTANT CAUTIONARY NOTES:
- that precisely means: some cool/warm tones may not hit home for someone, BUT lighter or darker ones may. trial and error. when analysing, don’t discard something too easily. and: as we saw, some palettes overlap and seemingly share colors. for instance, bright winters can borrow from bright spring types, since they’re both from the bright family. say, jimin can wear some assorted colors of spring AND summer.
still: keep in mind the basic ideas (and how winters always look better in cool shades, while spring is always warm). if he’s a cool tone and his best colors are soft > bright, and light > dark = we can do the math. he’s a summer. taemin is amazingly flattered by hazy, dusky greys — it’s a light muted palette. grey’s not cute and memorable? he can make it so.
Tumblr media
or vice versa. if he’s cool toned and bright > soft, and dark > light = he’s a winter, like changkyun. winters thrive on contrast and can’t handle bleach as easily as summers and springs. their face disappears, almost becomes ghost-like. taemin can pull off blonde like it’s nothing, while changkyun needs the depth of dark winter hair, as it wonderfully contours his face. winters look their most sexy and mysterious in very strong hues.
Tumblr media
- color analysis takes so much differenciation as color varies so much. a bright warm red (= spring, even winter) might not be bull’s eye for someone because the saturation/chroma is too much, but a soft warm red (= autumn) can. it’s hard to study at first, so sticking with the 4 seasons concept as a beginner can help, long as you remember the 6 color families.
- someone might wear items/hair color from different seasons at the same time. analysis difficulty mode 5000. say, the foundation could be summer, the eye makeup winter, the shirt spring, and the hair autumn. but you can figure out what feels right one by one. bts’ yoongi can wear warm toned orange hair and it’s not in his palette — he’s a cool tone. but depending on the rest of the outfit, the overall impression still works anyway and looks pretty good.
Tumblr media
since he’s a winter, he can balance the orange hair with black + silver accessories and pull it off better. too soft grey clothing doesn’t make him pop as much and the hair takes over. there’s a reason why the right-hand version went viral and is hard to forget. yoongi wears his winter palette very often. 💘
Tumblr media
- what looks good on someone often resorts to subjective VS objective. what makes someone look radiant and harmonious can be very different to color analyst’s different perspectives and even biases. if you want someone to be season XYZ, you find ways to justify it. that’s why proper analysis means: sifting through dozens and dozens of pictures, and sometimes correcting your typings over and over.
meanwhile, sometimes it’s easy — because the difference is so extreme. consider txt’ yeonjun with warm blonde hair before an orange color background and dark hair before a cool grey backdrop:
Tumblr media
- keep in mind that certain seasons will be more prevalent among idols. the colorful spring tone era of kpop has blended into a more cool-tone dominated era in the industry. there’s a trend toward casting winters and summers into agencies, but mostly winter. their range of colors is more flexible and eyecatching, and always ready for a classic black tie event. a bright winter aesthetic is veeery popular for nct’s music videos, for instance (so pretty).
Tumblr media
(how do you know it’s not bright spring? it has strong black background contrast and silver in it.)
so, styling examples in warm tones are harder to find and analyse if seemingly all men’s fashion is blue-based and you don’t find comparison pictures. spring is already seldom worn, but autumn concepts like shinee’s are especially rare.
Tumblr media
- some body types do some color palettes better than others. if you have heard of kibbe body typing, you’ll know what i mean. if your body type says ok, a vertical line of black color works best for you, but your personal color says you’re a soft or light season instead of a high contrast season? meeting halfway and typing well is even more difficult if you consider kibbe and aren’t a versatile gamine or classic type. i mean look at this recommendation table mess:
Tumblr media
- often, people can never seem to agree on a typing online, even experts. everyone has their own approach and tweaks to the theory. the debate can get heated and messy; nobody wants to be wrong despite color analysis being so hard to get right. othertimes, i’ve seen color analysts or forumists type things like ‘ew, person XYZ looks the absolute worst in this color it’s horrible!!’ — i encourage everyone to stay civil and not insult the person you’re typing by saying they look terrible, awful, hideous, gross, nasty, et cetera. and even if a color doesn’t look right, say which one does, end on a positive note. color theory is no excuse or shield to hide behind to call someone ugly.
- lighting/editing/filters can also mess with correct analysis. photo backgrounds can reflect. the issue of artificial vs natural lighting — what helps to type more accurately? (...if you ask me, natural. but color harmony shows indoors anyway, and even in bad lighting.) if the person is wearing major cleavage, their own skin will ‘cancel out’/neutralize the effect of the garment’s color cast on the face. it takes time and effort to learn this system so mistakes sneak in, i constantly err myself. the list goes on. online typings can easily be inaccurate; we’re not doing the analysis in person, with clearly labelled color drapes and palettes under the face as the pros are doing it for consultations.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
example: his company can edit and photograph taemin as a deep winter, icy lighting, heavy makeup, black clothes. but unwhitewashed pictures will tell you that all black everything isn’t as spot-on as more gentle summer colors.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
winter is too strong and deep. summer is just right, being easygoing and subtle enough.
Tumblr media
- always remember that all colors can be made more cool or warm (by adding yellow or blue respectively), dark or light (by adding black or white), soft or bright (by adding or subtracting grey). yellow can be made cool or warm, blue can be made cool or warm. white can be crisp or off-white/beige. there are only a few dealbreakers in this system. for instance, cool seasons struggle with wearing either orange, and light seasons don’t pull off any black, and the warm color family is incompatible with very sharp white. but other than that, remember that any color is always able to be manipulated on a spectrum.
Tumblr media
but usually, when you type someone into warm or cool, the difference can be quite glaring and you don’t have to go the extra mile and find them in a cool blue vs a warm blue, for instance. let’s look at felix from stray kids and which tone accentuates his face the best in random colors:
Tumblr media
the cool and ashy purple of the dye, the blue-based background, and the black jacket don’t do him any justice. it’s a styling for a winter. instead, felix being a spring is best-complimented by warm blonde hair (guess why he wears it so often, it’s in his palette) and citrus pastels, with warm tone makeup like the peachy coral lip on the right. that’s all we need to check.
- seasonal color analysis works best when the person doesn’t wear makeup and you just observe the effect of the surrounding colors on their face, but then again: makeup is also ‘surrounding color’ and will read as either fitting or separate from the person. let’s look at taeyong:
Tumblr media
the fiery red hair and orange eye shadow are mostly yellow-based and therefore suited for a warm undertone. on his cool tone skin, it needs deeper and more blue-based colors, or a strong contrast like on the right. a cool brunette tone and silver jewelry are just natural on him. even a very subtle makeup style can help him dress his season, despite taeyong handling tons of makeup on any given day. moral of the story, long as his outfit is deep-toned enough, he can go for anything except too much yellow-base.
Tumblr media
THE SIX COLOR FAMILIES IN DEPTH: EXAMPLES.
to end this post, let’s practice again to sort idols into the big 6. because as long as you got these down, you can type someone on your own.
bts’ namjoon’s color family is gently muted. his stylists don’t go for it often, but he wears beigey-peachy soft tones like no other. there’s a reason why he does honey blonde and brunette hair all the time: his undertone is warm. namjoon is a delicate soft autumn.
Tumblr media
shinee’s key is very versatile in fashion, but his color family is cool. very breezy and a bit muted, but mostly full of blue-based greys and browns. not too much winter constrast, this is a more subtle palette. his undertone is cool. kibum is a cool summer.
Tumblr media
and finally, stray kids felix as we saw belongs to the warm tones, and the light family. that means minimum contrast and lots of subtle chroma, beige and cream are his forte. the more understated the tint of the clothing and accessories, the better. felix is a light spring.
Tumblr media
yep, this can go on and on. i hope you picked up some knowledge bombs from this explanation and feel as intrigued by personal color as i am, do ask if you have any questions and need some help.
cheers and happy researching ✍️ - caro

Skinz: One Year Later
It doesn’t matter who you are
It doesn’t matter whether you are black, white, Hispanic, Asian, male, or female.
I’m saying that your mere skin doesn’t matter.
All that matters is you.
Tumblr media
Instinct Part.2 was released a little over a year ago, to a mixed reception. On the heels of a controversial Instinct Part.1 era, a steep climb in popularity, and then the sad and mysterious exit of leader and main vocalist Love, many fans were in a sensitive spot. The harsh, unforgiving soundscape of “Skinz” provoked mixed responses.
I’ll save my analysis of the Instinct albums for another day. For now, I want to analyze Skinz as a stand-alone entity.
The music video of Skinz tells a tale of obsession and delusion. A desperate and crude yet unapologetic kind of love and desire. Lyrically, it refers love as something parasitic, describing the intense desire to be as close to a loved one as possible, expressed in the lyrics:
“Face off. Show me what’s behind the mask, under skin”
“I can’t take it anymore
Dig deeper into my skin”
The music video seems to directly, purposefully contrast to the Libido video. Where Libido had a clear narrative with the members playing characters inside the story, Skinz steps out of it, going from a dreamlike fiction to something very close to reality. The members become more themselves. Idols, in their practice room, their van, their beach trip. Even the aspect ratio of the videos enforces this. Libido is cinematic, wide with black bars on the top and bottom. Skinz is full screen and opened up, a broader more lifelike perspective.
Additionally, the watcher is now given a perspective. You play a fan of OnlyOneOf. You watch their van. Your hands tweet about them.
The dark sound of the music video really struck me when I first watched. The English words like “parasite” and “delusion” and “underneath the skin” really popped out.
My immediate thought was a critique of obsessive fan culture, and I think that’s a large, important part of it for sure. The fan is watching OnlyOneOf from afar and desires to become closer, to know more, to see every little thing about their idols. It grows to a point of delusion, as referenced in the lyrics “Delusion in my head spread like a parasite”. The fan can barely tell reality from fiction, taking their joy from imagining themself being closer to OnlyOneOf, catching intimate moments they never would have seen before. Member A feeding member B! Member C being shirtless! And then they turn to the fan and pull them in to join the fun!
And the fan blinks back to reality, the bridge between these worlds always represented by the glitching of the music video and their phone screen. And they can feel satisfied having enjoyed time with the ones they love, as much as possible even if it’s only in their imagination.
Now, I use harsh language like delusion and obsession, but is it so severe? That’s… hard to say. I mean it must be right? How can you refer to this love as parasitic and delusional if it’s not a bad thing? But the description of the track, which I wrote at the top of the post, is so kind. The group is saying they love you, the fans, regardless of superficial things. Additionally, though the music is grating and dark, the moments imagined by the fan are not especially evil or invasive. It’s a vacation. Grilling outside and then walking and playing on the beach. The fan is watching OnlyOneOfs van in the beginning, but were they stalking it or did they happen across it?
I believe the morality of the fan is left intentionally vague because there are so many different fans with different beliefs and boundaries. There are fans who truly have problems with delusions or obsessiveness, and there are those who indulge a bit too much, and those who have the mental state to maintain well-drawn boundaries, and casual fans who would never think to cross any lines.
OnlyOneOf is acknowledging the state of Kpop fan culture, with little further commentary. Their clearest message is their description which I put at the very beginning of this analysis. To summarize it, “I love you, your mere skin doesn’t matter.”
That’s exactly what idols are for isn’t it? When someone is lonely, lacking friends or family or other relationships, when a kid needs someone to look up to, when someone’s life is stressful and their dreams seem unattainable, idols are meant to fill that gap.
(Well, they’re meant to make money for their company. But they wouldn’t make that money if they weren’t doing something beneficial for their fans.)
For me personally, idols have held many different roles. An inspiration to work hard, a muse, a companion when I’ve had no friends, a depiction of healthy masculinity… there is something very meaningful hiding beneath the scary fan culture and the money hungry companies.
It’s the relationship between fan and artist. A relationship which I feel is so perfectly captured in this video. Honestly, I’m so impressed looking at it after so much thought. The fan can be read as completely respectful and innocent, or someone as deeply bad and unhealthy as a sasaeng with serious problems.
In fact, I don’t think it needs to be one or the other. I think many fans engage in many different kinds of fan culture of varying degrees of respectfulness. It’s all based upon personal values and the depths of obsessiveness. I think that’s what’s really at the core of this video. That’s why this was truly a fear of artistry once again from the creative team.
I would love to hear any disagreements or additional points from other fans though if anyone would like to add on! I think there’s plenty more that could be analyzed here down to the smallest details!
I mean I’ve been holding these thoughts for… well, since the music video released. OnlyOneOf really has so much depth to their releases. Maybe next I’ll over analyze seoul collection or the underground idol universe or something.

Anthropocene in mainstream music : ruined world and rebellion
An analysis of Maison by Dreamcatcher
Tumblr media
In the summer of 2020, a movement of unbolting statues was at the center of a debate regarding western hegemony. Mainstream music has been a place to discuss the issue, because of its capacity to widely broadcasted productions about the current state of the world. “Zeitgeist” (meaning the spirit of a specific time) is often used to describe pop music, as it is representative of its time’s concern. In this analysis, I will not focus on counter-culture as a means for artists to speak a political truth but rather on the political awareness shown in mass media and more particularly in mainstream music. I will mainly analyze Dreamcatcher’s title track “Maison”, as it was the starting point of my reflection on the anthropocene. The music video came out on the 12th of April 2022 and showed at the beginning a chained and tagged statue in the middle of a ruined city. The sight felt like it was too powerful of an image to be a mere trivial scenery of a K-pop MV and that is precisely what sparked the idea for this analysis.
Dreamcatcher is relatively different from other K-pop groups, they don't belong to any successful south-korean record labels. It is actually the only group under their independent label, named Dreamcatcher Company. Dreamcatcher was reformed in 2017 after a commercial failure of their first concept “Minx”, hence the niche concept. For their new start, Dreamcatcher Company chose metal/rock sounds with horror coded music videos. Therefore, Dreamcatcher is in the mainstream system (K-pop) with a rather outer side production. “Maison” is the first part of a project about climate change, human greed and the consequences it has on the environment. In an interview, Dreamcatcher’s member Jiu explains the message as : “The story we told this time around is of environmental pollution. Because of human greed the earth is being destroyed.” As they were careful enough to count themselves as responsible as anyone else, the song is aimed to awaken some concern in all of us regarding the planet’s state. However, “Maison” isn’t only a campaign on recycling, the message goes further. Analyzing the music video, the production, the visual references and the lyrics will show why I think we should talk about anthropocene rather than ecology. Then, it will also help us consider the anthropocene and the difficulty of this debate when in the mainstream scene.
Let’s start by pointing out that mainstream and anthropocene are more similar than it seems. Mainstream is the product of the cultural industries - which stand for the moment in time when art was broadcasted worldwide or nationwide through mass media (cf. Theodor W. Adorno’s (1903-1969) and Max Horkheimer’s (1895-1973) article Kulturindustrie). Thus mainstream culture depends on the market laws and rules. The Anthropocene refers to the geological era defined by human’s harmful impact on nature. In other words, it is a system based on the stranglehold humankind holds on the planet’s environment. I’ll explain more about the anthropocene later. If we can compare the two concepts, it is because the mainstream is also a dominant system. By definition, mainstream designates a certain production meant for a wide audience. It is an accessible culture. Of course, it is popular because it is aimed at a large scale, hence the sentiment we have that it is supposedly a culture that “everyone likes”. Only there is a problem in that conception. Considering a content to be “shared” by everyone would come down to saying it is “universal”. Yet, thinking something is “universal” is problematic in itself. If we do think something is “universal” it means that everyone without exception has experienced that thing, casting out people when they don’t. It equals demanding of a group of people to experience something or maybe live a certain way, following a forced idea of what is considered universal, therefore washing out the differences instead of giving value to them. What I mean by that is that mainstream culture can be a way to force people to experience what has been decided to be “common” but in reality is only the product of soft power. Not by any means a way to reunite different people because it erases their differences. It is because of this dominant aspect of mainstream that we can pair it with the anthropocene. Mainstream can be used for the same aim as the anthropocene : to establish hegemony. Be it by coercion (via hard power or what Antonio Gramsci (1891-1937) called the “political society”) or by consent (soft power or “civil society”). Mainstream culture is guilty of following the dominant and globalizing logic of industries and capitalism, hence its share of responsibility on climate deregulation and pollution. In the case of mainstream music, it happens mainly through the disc and music industry. Mainstream culture also participates in social deregulation as it promotes overconsumption and neoliberalism, thus widening the gap between the higher and lower classes through normalizing wastes.
I think it is important to define further what the anthropocene has to do with this theme. Anthropocene isn’t another greenwashing ideology. Etymologically, “anthro” stands for “human” in ancient Greek and “cene” is the “era”. The Anthropocene is an era caused by the rise of capitalism (also called capitalocene to explicit that link, it is often added to “anthropocene” to explain furthermore what holds the term. Cf. Donna Haraway (1944- ), “Anthropocene, Capitalocene, Plantationocene, Chthulucene: Making Kin”). It is also connected to the New World’s discovery and consequently the environmental disturbance caused by Europeans’ appropriation of America's resources (phenomenon also named plantationocene).
My goal here isn’t to legitimize (or not) mainstream music, I want to analyze the representation of the debate regarding the anthropocene in mainstream music. How it was handled and why Dreamcatcher Company chose what they did in this particular system. The anthropocene is actually a rather popular subject in universities nowadays. Thinkers do educate ourselves with the discussion of its definition, but can mainstream music open a discussion on it? That is what I’m asking here. Is the mainstream scene the place to talk about our shared responsibility in the destruction of our world?
1. Ecologism : how to come back to a livable world ?
In April 2022, prior to “Maison”’s release, Dreamcatcher Company posted teasers such as photoshoots, lyrics, videos… on social media to give a preview of the new music. In one of those teasers, a little green plant was in the palm of the hands of a member, thereby introducing the theme of “Maison” : preserving the environment. The name of the title track of the album is significant for a song about ecology since eco (“oikos” in greek) means “home” or “house”. And “maison” is the french translation for house. It makes the intent of the song very clear : we must treat our planet like a house that protects and hosts its residents. With respect and kindness. The lyrics in the chorus seem to focus on the necessity to protect the less anthropized environments, as well as actively fighting for their retention. Indeed “save” becomes “fight” because we reached a point when protecting is not enough anymore.
There is a traffic sign in the background of the MV, mostly present during the first chorus that indicates the direction to the Badlands in California. The Badlands are a non practical land, no good for farming for example. In other words, it is a place left with a rather wildlife and balanced ecosystem. It is interesting to realize that the place is only mentioned, not shown. I think it is an important aspect of the whole mv : nature isn’t present. The lack of organic life forces the viewer to uncomfortably realize how human’s greed ravaged the world. To add to the list, at 1:47, can be spotted working factories as well as antennas in the desert. Only one of the singers stands in the middle of the scene and is looking lost and saddened at the sight. The only presence of humans - apart from the singers and the military/government clones - is through their hold on the environment. Visually, seeing a mere tiny spot of grass and a traffic sign isn’t enough anymore. Maybe the sight of a damaged world became unbearable.
2. Cultural hegemony and western symbolism.
“Maison”’s universe is made of 3D western architectures’ styles such as a brutalist city, a gothic cathedral and antic colonnades. The choice behind this type of scenery reveals, in my opinion, two different meanings. Contradictory ones.  I think it can be understood as a criticism of western iconography's ubiquity. For it is, after all, a South Korean music video with only European references. The other possibility behind that stylistic choice is that maybe Dreamcatcher uses western symbolism for a more practical reason : for more people to understand their message. Which is by definition the goal of mainstream as we saw before. Except it becomes an issue from the moment it participates in the never ending vicious circle of dominating cultures. What I mean by that is that the music video has a critical view on power over the masses, yet, by using the specific language of the dominant, it only makes them more powerful. The same way soft power does on the side : erase cultures for a “superior” one (the one from the dominant class). It proves that universality as a means to force a bland culture is deeply rooted in our society. Consequently, as previously stated it makes the differences between cultures less noticeable until they completely disappear. I’m not trying to say a good K-pop MV should only use Korean imagery or traditions. Pop culture is the place of melting pot, of mixing genres and accidental meetings of origins… Let’s just point out that 2020 was a turning point in K-pop as Agust D (aka Suga from worldwide famous band BTS) released “Daechwita”. Using a traditional military Korean piece of music sampled, it opened a new trend for K-pop groups to affirm their cultural identity (for example Stray Kid’s “Thunderous”). Although it was trending to use traditional pieces of music, celebrating their culture is nothing new for K-pop as promoting Korean culture is the point of K-pop. It is a governmental decision to rebuild the country's economy after the 1997’s financial crisis using their soft power, also named Hallyu Wave. That is why K-pop is inherently paradoxal : it blends both the want to promote their unique culture (showing the differences) as well as economically aiming for wider audience outside of South-Korea and Asia (and so making it for “everyone” hence removing big gaps of culture that could alter a sense of identifying).
Those specifically are consequences of the anthropocene. Globalizing cultures purposefully makes differences disappear in order to have a monopoly. The reason behind using only western artistic codes is ambiguous. That uncertainty lies also in the lyrics. Sure, “Maison” condemns human greed but whose? Who is Dreamcatcher addressing the song to? Who must fight for the planet? Well, all of us, really. Everyone. That is the obvious answer but also the less engaging one. Globalizing the receptor is the easy choice, it doesn’t cost much to say that everyone needs to do something but it avoids any type of responsibility. If they talk to “everyone”, it is easier for the listener to blame the neighbors than to rethink their lifestyle. Moreover, the last sentence of the chorus “Please someone fight for us” doesn’t designate someone in particular. It is completely impersonal. It ends up being an anonymous entity that nobody identifies with. As a matter of fact, “Maison” criticizes a certain attitude towards the state of the world, choosing to ignore the consequences of it (“Break your habit now”). It could be aimed at the ones who don't feel concerned. It seems more likely to point at the elites, conscious of the anthropocene but choosing to ignore it in order to keep their privileges. That is what the French writer Bruno Latour (1947-2022) explains in Down To Earth : Politics in the New Climatic Regime.
In other words, the ruling class keeps the cycle of abuse on the planet's resources and residents for their own interests. With that idea in mind, we realize that “Maison” is more of a critic than a lecture. Especially since Dreamcatcher stated they weren’t better than the rest of us, being as responsible than others. However, the way they point out how abusive the system is (even in an impersonal way) manifests a political view.
3. “I Can’t Breathe” : iconoclasm and protests.
“Maison” takes notice of the destroyed climatic state of the world but the message goes further than that. That is why I think the word anthropocene is better than ecology regarding this piece. There is a constant relationship between environmental and political conditions. For example in the lyrics, climate warming is compared to someone’s lack of conscience : “It’s weirdly hot, right? The laws of this planet are just the same as your drying conscience”. Also in the MV, the most impactful and politically charged image is the vandalized statue. It indicates that a rebellion against repression had taken place. That moment in the MV when we’re facing that image is accompanied by the song’s lyrics “Someone who got used to it”. Another translation can be found : “Someone got comfortable”. In the first one, it can be understood as the person being oppressed got used to the fate and won’t stop against the abusive authority anymore. Against “This crumbling place’s obvious dead sign”. The second translation makes it obvious that the statue is a symbol of a settler who took control of a place that doesn’t belong to them. Being symbols of power, oppression, conquest, pioneering, colonialism and slavery, statues often represent historical figures or allegories all being the epitome of western domination. Those statues were recently controversial, as people started questioning their legitimacy and meaning in today’s society, since they celebrate and endorse a certain history our modern society may not relate to anymore.
It is important to explain the political context prior to Maison’s release. In 2020, the Afro-American George Floyd was killed by policemen from Minneapolis, Minnesota, in the United States of America. He died in a violent arrest, as a police officer knelt on his neck for minutes despite George Floyd’s complaint that he couldn’t breathe anymore. Hence his last words “I can’t breathe” became since the emblem of the Black Lives Matter. This event has been the starting point of numerous protests against police violence aimed at the black community. Those protests were joined by an iconoclast movement of destroying symbols of power, domination and especially linked to slavery.
The vandalized statue in Dreamcatcher’s music video is way too impactful to not remind us of George Floyd’s protests. It is a way to show that rebellion can be an answer to oppression. I am aware that Dreamcatcher never talked about 2020’s riots or anything remotely political in their interviews to promote the song. Although it was never addressed, the music video doesn’t hide its engagement. Every reference is explicit enough to gather a clear political stance. The first sentence of the song “I can’t breathe” even if sung in Korean is exactly what George Floyd said before dying. The second sentence “Tomorrow disappears into the distance” explains how hard it is to imagine a future if nothing changes. It literally becomes harder to breathe because of global warming and other consequences of the anthropocene. It also means that we can’t keep on living in an unfair society governed by power and domination. The first sentences of the song have a double meaning as the fight is both environmental and social.
Now, let’s talk about change. “Maison”’s music video shows all seven members of Dreamcatcher fighting against authority figures in a post-apocalyptic world. The message of “Maison” is to end the tyrannic dominant system. As a matter of fact a dictator is represented in the MV with diabolic goat attributes (often used to portray the antichrist) in a luxurious place, surrounded by clones. The music video ends on that figure defeated and a possible new peaceful era. It is clear that “Maison” criticizes the indifference towards the current state of the world, and as said before, it aims to awaken a political awareness. If not, at least it manifests how power rules over to the point where it poisons its planet and the people living on it.
As a last aspect to analyze, I want to talk about the ending of the MV and more particularly how it evokes a return to a golden age. It seems, in my opinion, misplaced for a critic about cultural hegemony, since once again it uses only ancient symbols and western art forms. The superhero aesthetic (whose values are more cliché than engaged) winning against the bad guy in a dystopian world might discredit the seriousness of the subject. However the oversimplification of a fight between good and evil is balanced by strong references and politically charged symbols to the current situation. We can recognize the simplification as a symptom of mainstream as well as the anonymous use of “you”. If the goal is to be enjoyed by everyone then it is in the creator’s best interest to not offend anyone. Hence a politically correct way of delivering an engaged message. All those examples of clumsy associations and attempts to provide a critical opinion while still respecting restricting mainstream rules can be seen as a sort of intersectionality. In the way that all fights rejoin around equality and respect. In so many ways, the very fact that they want to spread such a message (also criticizing mainstream media) while in the mainstream can be contradictory. I think that no mainstream piece of art or culture can gather all conditions to be as impactful and critical towards the very system it is in as it should be, because the problem lies in that system itself and not necessarily in the said product. I also believe that it still holds the possibility to awaken some sort of political consciousness even if buried under layers of standardized and pre-made sentences. I don’t think the lack of sharpness to the delivery discredit the message because if it does, it would mean we can only talk about serious matters in “serious” media. Consequently limiting the message to an “elite” class. Opening a debate on mainstream within the mainstream scene is important.
In conclusion, “Maison”’s aim is to remind us all how capable we can all be at restoring peace in our world by fighting against domination. Through union and respect. Bruno Latour explains in his book Down To Earth that “the [...] elites [...] have taken the threat seriously ; they have concluded that their dominance was threatened and have decided to dismantle the ideology of a planet shared by all”. “Maison” reminds us of this ideology and invites us to rethink our planet as a shared house. One that needs care.

BTS Jungkook Birth chart analysis
Based on my opinions and observations. Not an expert. May change later.
Tumblr media
September 1st, 1997
Busan, South Korea
3:25 PM
☀️♍️, 🌙♍️, ⬆️♑️
Sun, Moon, and Mercury are in Virgo, giving him a Virgo stellium. He is detail oriented, helpful and reliable, and incredibly hard working, not a slacker at all. The downsides are that he's likely very critical on himself and others (but more likely on himself; Virgos are just...a little too self aware lol), perfectionistic, nitpicky, and can be an overthinker. E.g the time he was crying about a small mistake he made on stage that the other members hadn't seen at all. They all sit in the 8th house as well and form conjunctions to each other (sun conjunct moon and mercury, moon conjunct mercury)
Virgo Sun in 8th is very private and maybe even shy. Jungkook's not really an extrovert tbh, he has a small circle and is often seen hanging out with the same few friends. This placement is quite picky with who they choose to let into their life - they have to be extremely sure they can trust you to completely let you in their inner world.
Moon in 8th is an intense placement. Very strong feelings here. Having a Virgo moon though should help calm the intensity a little or at least help him navigate his feelings in a more structured way. Virgo moons tends to analyze and rationalize their thoughts and feelings. This could explain why Jungkook's never been the type to openly show his deeper feelings. This house can be transactional and Virgo is a sign of service, so he may find security in helping/servicing others. And people like to reciprocate the helpful energy for him too.
Mercury in 8th is a deeply curious and investigative placement. Virgo mercury is especially detailed - nothing gets past Jungkook. It's known he lurked around in fandom space on tiktok and twitter, so he most likely knows all the jokes and other things the fans talk about. This placement wants to understand things deeply.
Neptune, Uranus, and Jupiter are in 1st house. Neptune (illusions) and Uranus (unpredictable and constant change) can make a person chameleon-like in terms of appearance and Jungkook is versatile in fashion. It could explain why it was a bit confusing to guess his rising sign.
Jupiter in 1st - puts in a lot of effort into everything he does, may sometimes overdo things. Tries to be optimistic and upbeat, wants to enjoy life to the fullest.
Libra Venus is domicile and in 9th. Curious and knowledge seeking, especially curious about new cultures and places
Mars Scorpio in the 10th is very passionate and ambitious. Very determined to succeed in his career and reach all the goals he sets for himself. His motto "I would rather die than live without passion" is a perfect example of this placement.
Saturn in 3rd - some sort of challenge with communication. This placement can be very shy and maybe even a bit self conscious, socially anxious. Jungkook was incredibly shy when he was younger - iirc he would even cry when asked to sing and used to be so shy around the members predebut in general.
Pluto in 11th - a strange tense relationship with the idea of friendship. He didn't have much close friends when he was young and going to a whole new city made him even lonelier. However meeting BTS gave him friendship, which helped his loneliness a lot. They even helped him get over his shyness and support him with anything he does. He cares very deeply about them, even crying when they were talking about the struggles they were going through. He considers them his family, which makes sense since he was basically raised by them. He himself is quite influential as well (a given as he's a huge celebrity though) and can pretty much make anything he likes and anywhere goes become very popular.
Chiron in 10th - worried about how his image and reputation is perceived by others. Considering how incredibly shy Jungkook was when he was younger, it's not surprising he may have had a lot of self doubt about his journey to being an idol (along with the very self critical Virgo stellium. Chiron in 10th + Virgo stellium is careful and perfectionistic in order to have a good image). There may be issues of self esteem and power (mainly with authority and/or with himself) within his life.
With North Node in 8th though, it pushes Jungkook to be more open to create relations with others. He doesn't have to do everything alone - he should learn to rely on others and be comfortable being more open, both mentally and emotionally.
Capricorn rising is a little surprising ngl...However, I think it explains his physical features well. His eyes (I've noticed many Cap placements have big eyes), his face structure, and especially his hair. Capricorn rising hair is always very noticeable considering Capricorns rule hair. And like most earth risings, he can be down to earth and reserved - he keeps to himself a lot. Definitely very hard working like a Capricorn, ambitious and strives for success.
His Libra MC could be why many people thought he was a Libra rising. It is at 29°, a Leo degree, so that could also explain why people thought he could have been a Leo rising too. Libra mc is artsy and creative, which shows in his art skills in drawing, photography, and editing. Obviously his singing and dancing as well. It's apparent in his fashion too: experimenting with his hair styles, his sleeve tattoo, his piercings, and darker yet neat clothing style.

gosh I have nowhere to scream about this other than here, so I'm sorry about it but. The new Sunmi. God I love her artistry so much. At first when the term sunmipop kept popping up since 2019 I was sort of disbelieving of it - it felt like a bit of a stretch to me. But the moment this song started and the music video unfolded I immediately thought to myself - only Sunmi could pull this off and she keeps doing it so effortlessly, the sort of melancholia of love mixed in with retro undertones and just full blown cynicism in the visual regard and yeah wow. I think that's Sunmipop. She didn't compose this song but she said she wanted to add elements of trot and a distinctly Korean melancholia in the music (and an old children's game in the choreography) so it seems she really had a hand in the overall outcome and production of the song/concept.
When the men started dying I literally squealed in glee, the way Sunmi has been cultivating and nurturing this theme of herself as a woman who cannot be loved normally, where there is always a cost for the other person involved... it's like she's constantly embodying the vagina dentata, a witch, the outcast, the outsider, a stranger in this world which throughout her music has resonated with me so much for different reasons - mental health, her LGBTQ depictions, the way she narrates complex sexual/romantic relationships... I've just. Completely fallen in love with her, much more than I have in any prior comeback.
I'm really sorry for the day she chooses to retire the music industry.
hopefully it will be far far in the future, i refuse to think about it.
heartburn has felt the most distilled-to-the-essence sunmi in quite a while. there's a real simplicity and reverence in the aesthetic unity in the mv that has evaded her releases from that year. even though i love both tail and ycswu as pieces of spectacle art, heartburn doesn't have that same type of positive cathartic intention; it's meant to access a quieter, more melancholic type of catharsis. and that she's able to bridge those two types of artmaking with unity of textual theme is something that is very unique to her.

TXT ft. Anitta "Back for More" MV initial thoughts
youtube
It's here! It's here!! It's finally here!!!
The MV for "Back for More" is out and it looks sooooo good!! 😩
The overall styling/creative direction works really well. Absolutely loved how they played with the lights and shadows for this MV -- still giving tinges of something... forbidden? idk but the feeling of temptation still kinda lingers in this track, imo
AND THE WHISTLING IS STILL PRESENT OMFG I'VE JUST REALIZED WE HAVE WHISTLING AGAIN IN THIS TRACK TOO!!! WHAT UNIVERSE/TIMELINE ARE WE IN FOR THIS MV/ALBUM?????
We have our boys looking expensive in their suits. Love how they introduced softer, more feminine elements as well (cuts, fabric/texture, shapes, the shimmer etc) as it works to both contrast and highlight different points of their choreography. TXT always ready to serve ugh love them and their entire creative and performance team sm
On the topic of choreography, we were robbed of more Anitta and TXT dance interactions during the VMAs stage!! ☹️ AND WE WERE ROBBED OF MORE CENTER SOOBIN MOMENTS 😭 but of course, i understand that it's hard to have a "center" when there are six of them (including Anitta) on stage and this might be the one and only time they can perform live together so they made adjustments to their blocking
THE DANCE BREAK THOUGH??? IMMACULATE. LOVED IT. lowkey obsessed with the choreo where they do some miming actions of some sort to the instrumentals (idk how to describe it) -- scratches my brain just right whenever i see it all unfold in front of me 💆‍♀️ it's a shame that the camerawork during their live stage wasn't able to capture all that :(
And Yeonjun's scene at the end??? his little smile might have just ended me like what is he so cute for!!!!! I thought he'd go for a sexy little smirk or smth but it turns out a cute smile was even deadlier???!!! and i'm not even a moawajjunie so prayers for all the moawajjunies out there (and the bamtoris and the ningdungies and the solomons and ofc my fellow soobrangans and OT5ers out there)
the overall vibe and execution of this track was well done -- kinda like a dark disco approach that works really well coming from tnc: temptation. are we still being tempted by the devil even after saying farewell to neverland? are they now the devil?? who knows!! in any case, definitely staying seated for all that tnc: freefall will offer us 🫡

Tarot masterlist | Exchange readings | Paid readings
I don't have Ni-ki's exact birth time, so the analysis might not be super precise because I can't determine his ascendant or which houses each planet is in. Just to be clear, I'm not a pro astrologer, so don't take this too seriously. It's just for fun!
Ni-ki's Sun in Sagittarius reflects his love for adventure and deep contemplation about life. He's always curious and eager to learn new things, driven by a strong urge to uncover the truth about the world. However, this quest for knowledge sometimes leaves him feeling restless as he searches for deeper meanings. The 17th-degree placement of his Sun hints at a potential for fame or recognition, suggesting he possesses natural talents or charms that catch people's attention.
His Moon in Pisces reveals his caring and imaginative nature, deeply connected to his emotions and sensitive to others' feelings. Ni-ki prioritizes others' well-being over his own, ensuring everyone around him is okay. Despite his love for beauty and art, represented by his Moon at the 26th degree in Taurus, he may struggle with overwhelming emotions due to his deep sensitivity.
The square aspect between his Sun and Moon indicates an inner struggle between his desire for freedom and truth, and his need for emotional connection and understanding. This conflict often leaves him feeling conflicted about his wants and needs in life.
Ni-ki's Sun in Sagittarius in a trine aspect to Saturn in Leo at 11 degrees showcases his strong sense of self-discipline and ambition. This blend of disciplined ambition and optimism allows him to pursue his goals with determination while maintaining a sense of adventure and enthusiasm, potentially leading to success and stability, especially in areas related to self-expression and creativity.
With the Sun in Sagittarius sextile Neptune in Aquarius, Ni-ki possesses a harmonious blend of idealism, creativity, and humanitarianism. He's imaginative, intuitive, and spiritually attuned, driven by a desire to make a positive impact on the world. This aspect enhances his ability to inspire others and bring his visionary ideas into reality, finding fulfillment through activities that allow him to explore spirituality, express creativity, and contribute to society's greater good.
Ni-ki's Sun in Sagittarius in conjunction with Pluto in Sagittarius signifies a deep sense of personal power and intensity, driving him to uncover hidden truths and transform his beliefs with unwavering determination. This aspect indicates resilience and the ability to undergo profound personal growth and regeneration, potentially leading to intense periods of self-examination and identity transformation.
His Mercury in Scorpio at 26 degrees suggests a sharp mind keen on discovering psychological depths. The trine aspect between his Moon in Pisces and Mercury in Scorpio enhances his communication skills, allowing him to express himself with empathy and authenticity. Ni-ki excels in artistic or literary pursuits, channeling his deep emotions, imaginative visions, and penetrating insights into meaningful forms of expression.
Ni-ki, with Mercury in Scorpio sextile Chiron in Aquarius, possesses a natural gift for communicating with profound depth and insight, particularly concerning matters of healing and personal growth. His innate understanding of his own wounds and those of others allows him to offer guidance and support through his words and insights. Ni-ki excels in connecting with others on a deep emotional level, fostering a sense of understanding and empathy in his interactions.
Ni-ki, with Mercury in Scorpio sextile Venus in Capricorn, communicates his feelings and thoughts with intensity, sincerity, and emotional authenticity. His communication style is marked by clarity, persuasiveness, and effectiveness, fostering strong connections with others. This aspect reveals his keen understanding of relationship dynamics and an intuitive grasp of others' needs and desires. Ni-ki tends to build relationships on a foundation of mutual respect, shared goals, and a sense of responsibility, creating bonds that are both meaningful and enduring.
With his Venus in Capricorn at 26 degrees, Ni-ki values security, tradition, and long-term commitments in love. He expresses affection in a practical and grounded manner, showing love through acts of service, practical gestures, or emotional support. Despite appreciating beauty and elegance, he finds pleasure in indulging his senses while maintaining a refined aesthetic sense.
Ni-ki's Venus in Capricorn conjunct Chiron points to potential deep emotional wounds in his romantic life. This aspect signifies a journey of healing, particularly related to issues of self-worth, love, and intimacy. Ni-ki is naturally drawn to those who share similar emotional struggles, displaying a strong desire to aid in their healing and fulfilment. Creatively, he finds solace through art, music, or poetry, using these mediums to process and express emotional pain. Ni-ki may be attracted to partners who embody uniqueness and eccentricity. Such relationships play a vital role in his healing journey, allowing him to embrace his individuality and seek fulfilment through non-traditional dynamics.
The square aspect between his Moon in Pisces and Pluto in Sagittarius suggests Ni-ki may experience intense emotional reactions and deep psychological insights, potentially encountering challenges related to trust, intimacy, or sharing his deepest feelings with others. This can also bring up issues with your mother, though not always. This aspect encourages him to confront and transform deep-seated emotional patterns or fears, leading to significant personal growth and empowerment.
With the Moon in Pisces sextile Chiron in Aquarius, Ni-ki possesses a natural ability to channel his emotional sensitivity and intuition into healing, connecting with others on a profound level to offer comfort and support. This aspect suggests a draw to unconventional approaches to healing and personal growth, finding solace in expressing his authentic self in unique ways.
Ni-ki's Mars in Taurus, opposite Jupiter in Scorpio, may lead to inner conflicts between stability and security, and the urge for expansion and growth. He may struggle with balancing practicality with adventurous risk-taking, potentially experiencing excessiveness or overextension in pursuit of his goals.
With Mars in Taurus squaring Saturn in Leo, Ni-ki may face frustration and obstacles in asserting himself and pursuing his ambitions. Saturn's influence may create delays or setbacks, requiring him to cultivate patience, discipline, and persistence to overcome adversity.
Ni-ki's Mars in Taurus sextile Uranus in Pisces suggests he finds creative ways to pursue his goals, embracing unexpected changes and adjusting plans accordingly. His dynamic and energetic approach to life inspires others to embrace their uniqueness and explore new possibilities.
With Jupiter in Scorpio square Neptune in Aquarius, Ni-ki may grapple with discerning reality from fantasy, potentially experiencing disillusionment or disappointment when expectations aren't grounded in reality. However, this aspect also inspires creativity, spiritual growth, and artistic expression, encouraging him to balance dreams with grounded action.
The North Node at 11 degrees Aries indicates Ni-ki's life purpose involves taking bold initiatives and embracing new beginnings with confidence. The trine aspect between Saturn in Leo and the North Node in Aries brings stability and discipline to his journey, aligning his efforts with his soul's evolutionary path.
With Juno in Gemini opposing the Sun in Sagittarius, Ni-ki may face challenges in partnerships due to differences in beliefs or communication styles. However, the trine aspect between Juno in Gemini and Neptune in Aquarius facilitates open communication and a shared vision within relationships, fostering empathy, compassion, and understanding.

hello! can you do bang chan’s ideal type?
sure :)
Let's look at his Venus Person chart!
Tumblr media
He's someone that likes to care for people, he would like someone he can "take care of" basically. Kinda similar to Seonghwa's ideal type reading, someone who's different from others and has an appeal to them. Someone who has a sultry vibe. Bonus points if they have a tough past and tend to be disliked by others. It's not like he wants someone that's all gloom, no he likes someone that has Leo energy. It's just that he would like to "uncover" more about this person basically. It's like, you meet someone and you're curious to know stuff about them. He wouldn't want someone that's too shy and too reserved.
Idk if other readers have caught onto this but, he likes someone who's smart. Like they know about a lot of topics and he can have deep conversations with them. He'll be like "Wow, I have someone that is fun to be with and I can be honest and have deep conversations with them!". He wants someone with this type of duality. Completely irresponsible people are a major turn off for him, especially concerning work. He'd want someone that can give him ideas about a new project and could even work next with him.
He's a creative person, so having someone that's creative like him would make him very happy. (I'm not getting idol vibes but someone that's a producer, songwriter, plays an instrument, etc).
Bangchan has a heart and is a sweet guy, so he'd want someone that's caring and family oriented. After his time in SKZ he'll probably focus on having a family. A person that has a "motherly" vibe to them and is caring in general. Oh and caring to him aswell. Like caring to the point of it being possessive basically.
Another key part is patience and maturity. Someone with a messy schedule and doesn't have any priorities is unnatractive in his eyes. He'd want to hear more on someone's struggles and their work ethic rather then other things. He would like older people more than younger ones.
Apperance wise:
Duality, they can look cute but also intimidating
Charismatic face
Puppy/Dog like face
Intense gaze
Alluring
