OK FIRST OFF I HAVE A REFERENCE SHEET

HERES A MORE FLESHED OUT VER OF HIS BACKSTORY (also their weapon did change it is a spear so they can kebab pincer like how they did in the og starship) they were a familiar of the overqueen witch also know as Queen Entoma (i wrote her name out in witch runes :3) —

— when a couple years back a powerful team of magical girls died in the labyrinth, they’re soul gems breaking sent out some magical energy which cause some nearby familiars (bug, roach, bugette, the mosquito bros + sweetheart) sentient. bug spent most of their time sentient finding random stuff that the magical girls left behind, believing them to be lost and was able to somewhat learn japanese from it ANYWAY later feb wanders in, mistakenly thinking the rest of the gleeful 4 (her group) was in there and then got hit in the eyes by a web of a spider-like familiar and was blinded, calling out for her team, bug finds her and helps her out, pretending to be another magical girl, before feb can see them they run back to the labyrinth and finds kyupin (kyuubey + pincer) and decides to wish to be a magical girl! turning into a teen girl along with fake documents and an apartment (the wish was like specifically “I wanna be a human magical girl, with a life outside of this place!” that’s why the fake documents n apartment were created) she starts going to mitakihara and meets up with feb again and becomes the now fifth member of the now gleeful 5 (their first meeting is similar to that of madoka and homuras in the second timeline where homura was like ‘OMG IM A MAGICAL GIRL TOO!!!’) but little does bug know the more he uses their human form the more her soul gem gets darker (if they turn into a witch they’ll just make another overqueen but will still be bug, so then there would just kinda be 2 overqueens) ALSO I MADE HEIGHT CHARTS

also i didn’t talk a lot abt the other characters but i’m planning on tootsie noodles n krayonder (maybe jr too ??) being magical girls (specifically a duo/trio who sometimes work with the gleeful 5) anyway jr is the son of the like mayor of mitakihara or a descendant of the founder (haven’t decided) so his family is kinda famous :3 he and feb are the most popular kids in school, the rest of the gleeful 5 are popular by extension but bug a little less because… to the other students something is just… off about her? only feb really seems to not have any wariness towards them. tootsie noodles and krayonder are also kinda popular because krayonder is specs childhood friend and tootsie has been hanging around mega girl recently and she doesn’t seem to mind. OH YEAH I DREW FEB

anyways up is also taz’s adopted father !! Also for nationalities and parent situations and wishes !! for the ones who i’ve figured out what they wished for and haven’t said yet :3 Bug pretends to be from America and they recently moved to japan after their parents died cause that was where they were born and their parents are from so their only relatives live here, febs parents are americans who moved to japan before she was born and when taz’s parents died they had a brief friendship the year before so she wished for taz to be able to still stay with a relative, taz is half japanese half spanish, taz’s parents died a year ago (in this they are all 15 except for up and also if ur like ‘wow these are some tall 15 yr olds’ I KNOW but like… 15 year olds nowadays r either really tall or really short) and up, being their only living relative (like distant uncle) taz had to move in with them, she wished for the ability to be strong (mainly so she could get through the death of her parents) but it made her more closed off and angry, but did make her physically strong, jr is half japanese half american and his parents are FUCKING LOADED but never home, he wished for power and popularity, krayonder is japanese and has a good life even if he moved around a lot when he was younger he was still able to keep in contact with specs, coincidentally, that’s also what he wished for! tootsie is half american half japanese and was raised on a farm, his family moved to mitakihara recently, I CANT THINK OF A WISH <\3 mega girl is japanese and lived in mitakihara her whole life, her parents were closed off and indifferent about most things but unlike them, she was pretty emotional, when she went through her first heartbreak (it was baaad), she wished for the ability to feel less, and now only has slight inklings of feelings instead. specs is japanese and i honestly have no idea for but her mother was a teacher at mitakihara uni and her father was a engineer, she wished for the ability to be as smart as her parents want her to be. Up is spanish and moved to japan recently when he found out that his distant niece had no home and didn’t want her to go through the foster care system, he also found out about the magical girl thing when he asked taz about why the ring she kept wearing recently kept changing between a bright red and a murky red, and taz was kinda shocked but shocked enough that she just told him about being a magical girl. Up is an old war veteran also and his house became the DHS (designated hangout spot) for the gleeful 5.

OH YEAH they r also all gonna get alt names, not just bug :3 but I haven’t figured those out yet, I also haven’t drawn the other chars yet so that’s why there’s only feb and bug art :3 ALSO I’m planning on turning this into a fic !! I’m not the best writer and still need to find somebody to beta it but SOON.

Okay, so I wanted to watch a starkid musical at school today, and I was planning on bindging all three Hatchetfield musicals today, but sine we have a 2-hour delay, I wouldn't have time for all three.

So I'm watching Starship.

And I knew that February and Bug would get together, but I thought that they would, y'know, avoid doing a Bee Movie, and wait until he'd an actual human to start the whole love interest plot. But no. Bug becomes a fucking human because he like February. What the fuck.

bug: nonbinary but masc presenting. they/he technically but he truly doesn't care, gender doesn't exist on bug world in the same it does to humans. also aroace(spectrum) (buguary qpr realness) and bi

february: straight trans girl!! buguary is also t4t suprise! i think her parents were really supportive growing up, and shes just unapologetically feminine i love her for it

taz: kind of nonbinary kind of gender fluid she doesnt care whats in her pants? a knife. also butch lesbian because i love her. i dont think they've ever been in a relationship really (shes a 16 year old leutenant i dont think shes had that much free time) but if they were to be it would NAWT be a man

up: genders a bit wobbly but mostly masculine. he/him but doesnt really care about pronouns, i think pre-injury he was pretty hegenomic - and also very unconfident in his masculinity. but after his recovery, and after his talk with bug, hes kinda found himself out! Technically cis but literally who cares. also i think hes gay

specs: transfem nonbinary i have never seen a cisgender computer programmer/j. any pronouns but primarily they/she. i think growing up they always had really long hair so people kept mistaking them for a girl and eventually she just stopped correcting people lmaoo. also silly hc: specs was a nickname given as a kid because of their glasses that just kinda stuck. also aroace. maybe lesbian.

krayonder: trans man for sure, he/him. kind of an unrelated headcanon but i think he wears alot of stupid fucking graphic tees (alpha wolf howling at the moon, galaxy space pizza cat etc) and cargo shorts and its horrifying for everyone involved. also bisexual (damn son you get no bitches for real)

tootsie: trans man, he/him but honestly he doesnt give a shit hes just here for a good time. to me, farm planet is actually really accepting gender wise it was pretty chill ! doesnt really label his sexuality at all but i do think hes been attracted to men in the past

mega-girl: technically sexless but uses she/her, im not sure if that counts as being trans but shes gender enough so it counts. surprise tootsie&megagirl are ALSO t4t(ish) get hit with my beam. i think genders a little weird for her because while she "is not a woman" (her words) she is a megaGIRL unit so. im not sure if that means shes programmed with gender or not, either way she is comfortable with she/her pronouns so Shrugs. also sexuality wise she doesnt really label but Technically pan

i love that one bug musical where every single character is lgbtq!!

i love how pretty much everyone who has watched this musical just agreed that bug is trans. to be fair, when he has lyrics like “There's no choice involved in what you are given - One mind, one voice, one body to live in” and an entire song about rejecting normalcy and the “status quo” its kinda unavoidable. also the rest of the characters just give off those vibes

I like to think that when Bug got on the starship he got to do a lot of bonding with the other crew members

Like, Specks shows him her ant colony she brought from Earth, and asks if he can translate for them (she wants to know if shes doing a good job and meeting all of the ants needs. Bug doesnt speak their language yet)

Tootsie helps Bug decorate his quarters while telling him all about Farm Planet. Bug ends up telling him about Bug World and quietly develops a fear of horses

Of course, Taz has to teach him self defense. While his human body was pretty fit and could easily pack a punch, 4-foot-something insect cant exactly take down a normal person let alone a killer robot

Krayonder has to spend a lot of time in the infirmary after the events of the musical, so he spends a lot of time gossiping with Bug about the other crew members. Eventually, Bug teaches him how to speak insect so he stops getting caught by the rest of the crew (not that Bug would lie to them if they asked about it - he learned his lesson last time. But it does keep Krayonder out of the crosshairs a bit more often)

Starship is unironically a wonderful musical, I think it's one of StarKid's best and it's definitely one of my favourites, all the actors are so amazing, like, Joey Richter makes Bug such a wonderful naive protagonist, Brant Cox is a perfect best friend sidekick in Roach, Dylan Saunders is wonderful as the villain, Pincer, and doubles up as the wonderful, simple farm boy Tootsie Noodles, not to mention the rest of the Starship Rangers are all wonderful, my favourite characters! Denise Donovan plays the charming and ditzy love interest as February really well, Lauren Lopez shines as Taz, the tough tomboy, Meredith Stepien is obviously amazing as Mega-Girl, Brian Holden is so hilarious as the pathetic yet super evil Junior, Joe Walker is WONDERFUL as Commander Up, the former tough guy turned insecure sweetheart GOD Joe Walker is on another level, and even though Joe Moses and Julia Albain play smaller roles as Krayonder and Specs, I still find their performances super fun, as well as Jim Povolo, Jaime Lyn Beatty and Nick Lang as wonderful supporting cast with great voices and great range, and the songs are wonderful, Kick It Up A Notch is a genuinely AMAZING villain song, The Way I Do is one of my favourite love songs, I Wanna Be is a perfect introductory and I want song, and Status Quo, Get Back Up, and Life are bangers, not to mention the other songs that are also good! I could talk about this musical all day, the way that there's motifs from other songs present, like how there's a part of Life in Kick It Up A Notch, sung by Pincer, echoing when Bug previously sung the lament, and how lyrics from I Wanna Be come in as well as Pincer offers Bug the chance to be everything he's wanted to be, and there's even other smaller times we notice the motifs, like how in the introductory video Bug watches from the crashed starship, the instrumental of Get Back Up is playing, and the instrumental of Life is playing when the bugs first see the starship... God I'm obsessed with this musical you do not understand
