“Bianca’s getting married.”
“Oh, I’m very happy for her. Is it to a charming Honda Civic? Or is that too young for her?”
Her joke didn’t land well. He sighed heavily. “The real Bianca."
Eden Hawke and Varric Tethras have been friends for 7 years. Their bond is unbreakable, which is why when Varric asks Eden to be his fake date to his on-again/off-again ex girlfriend Bianca's wedding, she agrees immediately. The two of them embark on the road trip of a lifetime, one they will never forget. ♫

Medic
— (Te'lise, Caerwyn, Krem ft. Alifalon & Alhannon)
.
"Cremisius Aclassi!" Te'lise barked, aghast. "You are in the middle of a battlefield with an ARROW buried in your gut and you have the nerve to make death jokes?!"
Krem released a breathy laugh.
.
[I have plans to extend this story excerpt in the future, so stay tuned]

thoughts on what fandoms the da:i characters would be in
I will do this for you but ONLY if I amend it to "fandoms they would be annoying about" because it's funnier and otherwise I'm just assigning them shows they would be into and that's too subjective and less fun
One of them has to be a Homestuck and it's Sera, Sera is the Homestuck. Sera has a Trollsona that she doodles on everything, she would 100% absolutely try to dye herself gray using sharpies and vodka for a cosplay. She references it all the time and is annoying when you don't understand her jokes. She still tries to get people into it, but she considers Andrew Hussy a mortal enemy these days for Reasons.
Solas is a Song of Ice and Fire bitch. Not the show. The books. "But wait, Boggers!" you might say (if you know me well enough to call me "Boggers"), "What about LOTR? Why isn't Solas into LOTR?" And to that I say, he's definitely read it and is a nerd about it, but this is about fandom, and fandom to someone like a Reddit-addicted bitch like Solas is about theory crafting, debates, and politics, and ASoIaF being complex but unfinished really lends itself to the kind of deep internet toxicity that I think Solas would crave. Also he likes wolves.
Cole is a Supernatural Superfan. He has all the cheesy "join the hunt" merch because for a while it was his chief special interest and all he wanted was SPN stuff. He's kind of obsessed with Baby, specifically. His favorite episode was Baby and he has an AO3 account full of fic written from the car's perspective. He didn't cry in the finale until he saw the Impala under the canvas and he's been lowkey upset at Sam for doing that ever since.
Dorian is an old school Baldur's Gate fan. Like, BG1 and 2. He's played other RPGs of that era, those are just his favorites. What makes him an annoying fan is that he thinks complicated = good and looooooves to complain about how "simple" and "boring" current-era RPGs are. If you can't softblock yourself from all progress by making one mistake two hours into your playthrough, it's too easy. He's active in fandom spaces and is largely helpful, like he writes tips and guides and will answer newbie questions, but the price for his help is dealing with him being smug.
Leliana is a FromSoft fangirl and a Soulslike aficionado. Nightingale says git gud. She'll happily team up with you in co-op to get you through stuff if you ask, but she also explains mechanics and such like you should have known them already and thinks you're just not trying hard enough to listen, even though her advice is almost incomprehensible.
Cullen is an MCU fanboy. He fully believes they're the peak of cinema. He compares literally everything to an MCU movie, as he has seen all of them, multiple times, and thinks you're "thinking about it too much" if you criticize them in more than the most banal of ways. Usually it's fine, like, being excited for stuff is fine and enjoying mainstream things are fine, but you can only have so many "Thanos was a great villain" conversations with this dude before you go insane. Despite seeming incapable of critiquing the MCU, his criticisms of the DCEU are spot-on, sharp, and demonstrative of actually very impressive media analysis skills, but also coming from a starting point of "DC Bad, Marvel Good", so it's like, we could've had it aaaaaaaaall.
Cassandra is in the Bridgerton fandom. She read the original books and liked them, so she was one of the first people watching the show. Most of her fandom stuff happens on Facebook with other book fans. Watching the show with her is fun until the exact second she says "well, in the BOOKS" and then rattles off a list of the most inconsequential changes, distracting you from a pivotal moment in the show and forcing you to rewind. She is very pressed about the seasons going out of order from the books.
Varric is a Critical Role evangelist. He was there when it started, he's listened to everything. He's listened to other real play podcasts and shows, but CR is his favorite. That's not annoying in and of itself, what's annoying is that he will not stop trying to get you to watch it. If you even breathe in the direction of a DnD-related topic he tries to give you "advice on where to start" with CR. His friends put up with it because he's their Forever DM and they love him, but he sure does do a lot more obnoxious sound effects now than he used to and they're planning an intervention about it.
Josephine is a Disney Adult. She seems normal and then bam, you get blindsided by something insane, like that she owns every single Disney character Funko Pop, or that she's gone to DisneyWorld for vacation every year for the last decade, or you go over to her house for dinner and find Hidden Mickeys in her bathroom, or she's really intense about pin collecting and limited edition mouse ear headbands. You wonder when she has the time and energy to collect all this. And there's more of it every time you see her. But the thing is that she's pretty quiet about it as long as you don't poke the bear. You know that she's seen every one of the new remakes in theaters, but you don't dare ask her opinion about them. Her favorite princess is Cinderella and she tells you "the original dress was silver" with exactly the same amount of excited did-you-know energy every time.
I hate to break this to you all, but Iron Bull is a Zack Snyder and Christopher Nolan fanboy. Yep. Yes he is. His toxic trait is that he shuts his brain off and just enjoys the gritty action sequences. He liked Batman v Superman. He bought the Snyder Cut. He thinks Nolan's Batman is the absolute best that franchise has ever been and ever could be. I'm sorry, it's heartbreaking but it's true. I know, I'm sad, too, we can hold each other.
Vivienne has been in the Anne Rice fandom under the same pseudonym for ever. She was one of the original fans and was much more active in fandom when she was much younger, but she made her fannish activities more and more private as she became more established in her career. You would honestly never know it meeting her IRL; at most, people come over for dinner parties and might notice that she owns every single Anne Rice book, but they're part of her overall book collection and don't really stand out. Secretly, though, she's been keeping up with the Anne Rice fandom under a pseudonym this whole time and goes to the more modern in-person events using her fake name. She might kill you if you ever connected her fandom activities to her real life in any way. She's also just, like, she's really bad at letting people be wrong about these books. Really, really, really bad. There are epic-length threads on old forums that are just her and one other similarly deranged person fighting about obscure Vampire Chronicles lore.
And finally, Blackwall is a Game of Thrones girlie. The show, not the books. He's one of those "I don't like fantasy but I like Game of Thrones" guys, and he thinks GoT is mold-breaking and special and better and grittier and more realistic than other fantasy and that's why he likes it. His most irritating fan trait is that he thought season 8 was good and that the ending was good and he likes to get into heated debates with other fans about it. However, he does not know what Reddit is, he only talks with other GoT-watchers in Facebook, which is why he and Solas haven't had the fight to end all friendships yet. Yet.
BONUS! Krem is into Star Wars and Scout Harding is a die-hard Trekkie, and they go to big cons and cosplay together. They're not annoying at all, I just wanted to mention it because I feel like that's in-character for them.
**also if you like this and think "i'm gonna give this fine person a follow because they're so funny about dragon age", i made a new DA sideblog at @skyholdstarbucks where i'd post anything similar to this in the future

to any & all Dragon Age fans
this is a very long shot but i might as well try
i am currently writing my bachelor's thesis about trans male characters in video games, and obviously i am including krem
i'd be interested in personal opinions on krem as a character - how his gender identity is brought up, how he is presented, how it got dealt with behind the scenes etc etc.
so if anyone would like to share their thoughts with me, i'd be eternally greatful & happy! and it doesn't matter if you identify as LGBTQIA+ or not - i'm happy to hear from genuinely anyone.
of course, should you happen to be trans, it'd be awesome to hear if you can relate to krem at all or not
feel free to reach out via ask or message :) and if you'd prefer to do this via another platform (e.g. discord) or via email, lmk as well

Would Romanced!DAI Companions Duel for their Inquisitor?
It's heavily implied that the Inquisitor is female, so skip if that ain't your cup of tea. I have included Krem, Dagna, and Harding in this but left out Cassandra, Dorian, and Solas since... it's implied that the Inquisitor is a female... and a human one at that.
Sowwy.
Blackwall/Thom Rainer: It depends on whether or not his identity was released. Before, he’s more hesitant, but once he sees how upset his lover is with the news, he’s pissed. He fights for his lover, but not just to take their hand, more so to free his lover from the binds of an arranged marriage. After his identity is revealed, he’s worried that his claim will be even more scrutinized. But once again, if he sees his lover upset, he immediately challenges The Inquisitor’s betrothed. The fight may take a while, as he gets pretty upset when the man Blackwall/Rainer is dueling starts taunting or insulting him.
Cullen Rutherford: Yes. So much yes. He’s furious. Especially when Josephine initially explains that there is very little they can do. The whole process would take a few months at the least, and there’s no guarantee that The Inquisitor would get out unscathed. It’s Leliana who drops the hint that if he duels The Inquisitor’s betrothed, Cullen can speed up the process and be home by sunset. He’s furious while fighting the betrothed, and it only gets worse when the man begins to taunt Cullen by claiming that such a country bumkin shouldn’t marry or interact with The Inquisitor. Cullen somehow keeps his cool long enough for The Inquisitor to arrive. After that, he’s angrily pouting and telling The Inquisitor that “you can’t marry them” and all that. He gets so upset that he ends up proposing right then and there.
Dagna: No, because she doesn’t think she can. She wants to help, but her area of expertise isn’t… that.
She turns to Josephine and asks for help, and within a month or two, The Inquisitor and Dagna are back together.
Iron Bull: He’s all over that. And he’s certain he can make pretty good work of this noble. Until he finds out he has to fight honorably and “can’t just rip the nobleman apart.” Which is kind of stupid.
He doesn’t realize it himself, that he’s fighting for his kadan just yet. He lies to himself and says that he’s only doing this so that The Inquisitor doesn’t have to worry about “more bullshit” and that he just really wants to fight. But if that was the case, he wouldn’t be practicing how to properly duel, and he wouldn’t be researching clever one liners to throw in every once in a while. It’s as the Inquisitor appears in the crowd, pushing away the nobles that block their path, that’s when Bull realizes two things.
He’s in love.
He did this whole thing because he loves The Inquisitor.
And he’s speechless when The Inquisitor asks him why he did this, and it takes a good lot of effort for him to finally choke out, “because I love you, kadan.”
Josephine Montilyet: Absolutely not, she would help the Inquisitor out of the engagement ASAP. But she wouldn’t dare pick up a sword. Not because she can’t fight, but more because she knows there’s a peaceful solution to this, one that doesn’t involve swords.
Krem: Yeah, in fact, it’s one of the first things he does. The second he finds out all he has to do is duel the bastard that’s taking away his lover. It’s done. Of course, if The Inquisitor barges in, Krem’s all apologetic so he’s just spewing apologies but he’s able to confess his love for the Inquisitor while he’s at it.
Scout Harding: Yes. Like Krem, she sees this as the best way to take care of this engagement. She hates to admit it, but she ends up getting some sword lessons from Cassandra, who finds out and is all over the romantic idea of dueling for someone’s love. If The Inquisitor ends up arriving at the fight, Harding ends up confessing, completely red in the face while she explains how she couldn’t let her lover go to someone else other than her.
Sera: Yes, but she does it dirty. She messes with The Inquisitor’s betrothed, puts itching powder in their breeches, grease on the sword handle, and somehow knows all the damn gossip about their entire family. It’s sort of funny, watching the poor sod trip over himself because Sera tied their bootlaces together… wait how did she do that?
She’s unapologetic, even to Inky. She explains that some prissy pants noble wasn’t gonna take away her sweetness.
Varric Tethras: Yes, and he lies to himself and everyone else by saying some bullshit about how “amazing this would be for the story.” But he’s very upset. He already had someone taken away from him for the same damn reasons, but he had no power the last time. This time, he can do something, save the girl (or guy,) and he doesn’t have to back down. He hates to admit it, especially out loud, but if The Inquisitor stops the duel halfway through, Varric can’t help but give some sappy “they can’t have you because I love you” speech.

hate hate hate HATE that the only normal reaction to krem during that scene where the inquisitor meets the chargers is to move on to the next person. otherwise you’re either outing him, misgendering him, or both. it’s such a shitty transphobic writing decision, i hope whoever made it chokes on a rock. bioware be normal about queer people for 5 minutes challenge.

Playing DA2 and the Qunari guard called me Bashra Vashedan and I thought it was odd since I know Bull when his boys are dead will call you Bas, so I looked it up:
Bas: Literally, "thing;" foreign to the Qun; purposeless. Often used as a neutral term to describe non-Qunari people, in the same manner as "foreigner" or "stranger".
Basra: Rude term for non-Qunari people.
Vashedan: Crap (literally "refuse" or "trash."); A common profanity.
Man called me a piece of shit trash!!
Also calls into view that reeducators/Qun is truly terrifying. We know Bull loves the Chargers, loves Krem and he accepts they were his men and a decision was made and he followed it (as he was born and bred to do), he is able to disconnect his feelings so entirely that he feels nothing.
Not immediately, this shows when Cole breaks everyones hearts by telling him Krems last thought and clearly that hurts Bull but instead of making him spiral, it reinforces the idea of the Qun more.
When Bull states that its nothing personal and calls you Bas, he means it, truly it was nothing personal, he does not hold you responsible because you are nothing, he does not hold himself responsible because there is nothing to be held responsible for--some people died for the good of the Qun, that is all.
So well done is this dug into Bulls mind that Cole does not see Trespasser coming because Cole only senses and sees sorrow and hurt: things he can fix, things you regret; Bull doesn't.
That is what a cult does to a persons mind.

For the opinions meme - how about Varric, Krem, Zevran and Sten?
WOOOOH it's a lot! Thank you ask some more. 👀
SOOOO let's spill some tea, shall we. *crack knuckles*
Varric:
First impression: "Omg that's some chest hair." Of course. Nah it was like at first sight even without those, give me an unreliable sarcastic narrator and I'll be content.
Impression now: After reading some analyses and writing him... I still like him a lot as a character, but it's true that he's for sticking with the status quo and is terrified of changes, BUT he changes his mind if you push him enough (a lot), so that's ok. Leave Bianca dude seriously I'm suffering for your sake.
Favorite moment: The fake solo EPIC fight at Bartrand's. Iconic, you go man. Also, the descriptions on ships in Hard in Hightown without a hint of research. He just doesn't care and it works and it's a best seller. You go, Varric.
Idea for a story: I don't think anything about him will ever top the fic "Ask Varric" but I'd love to be proven wrong of course. (It's the fic I read when I'm sad it just sparks joy). I'd just love to see him coping with a Spirit Cole and learning that it's not the end of the world, he's still him. Alas I tend to focus more on my OCs. Maybe I'll try it one day or another, but it's not that day (and if you are reading this and find it a good prompt, be my guest, write it and please tag me)
Unpopular opinion: A centrist character that doesn't want change is actually a good counterpoint for Hawke.
Favorite relationship: *looks at DadWolf AU* AH-EHM. No, joking, I love a good fic that ships him with Cassandra.
Favorite headcanon: Bisexual in the closet, clearly had a one-night with Solas when they both got drunk I read the comic panels and listen LISTEN no homo bro
Krem:
First impression: I think I thought he looked very cool and had a very nice voice, I liked how professional he was and the dynamics of the Chargers from the start, the more he spoke the more I liked him.
Impression now: As above, I can't say much on how it was written but I like him very much as a character, I wish we saw more of him in game and that he was a romanceable option but alas
Favorite moment: I live for his dynamic with Bull they're just... The ultimate found family and they melt my little dark heart.
Idea for a story: Oh damn... Anything exploring his character more, honestly. I will be honest and say I'm not really shipping him with Maryden (I don't like Maryden much...?). Maybe something having him and Dorian in the same room. Add Fenris for the perfect Tevinter reunion and just dig in the chaos. Hateful Eight style. (Sorry Dor I don't think you're surviving this in one piece)
Unpopular opinion: Is there an unpopular opinion about Krem? No, I think my opinion on him are pretty average.
Favorite relationship: Chargers the ultimate Found Family all the way. With Bull, as in platonic. Or you know what. He makes plushies. Josie plays with them. KremxJosephine??? (it's farfetched and I really thought of it right now and with a beer in my belly. But...)
Zevran:
First impression: "Dude who gave you the assassin licence, Elmo?" No listen Zevran is the epitome of the character I like most. Cocky, histrionic, there for show, very charismatic. I was there and I liked him from the start.
Impression now: Same as above, it didn't change much. I only love him more after knowing all of it, he deserves all the love and praise he can get and some more.
Favorite moment: His recruitment is honestly an iconic epic fail come on what's there not to love. But also his banter with Alistair.
Idea for a story: I will write it sooner or later: Zevran and the Warden making spritz in the camp with what they could find/distill themselves. Listen, Antiva is Venezia, hence it's a SHAME that one of his gifts is not a glass of Spritz (the most typical cocktail from the... City or region I won't say or Ali will beat me with a newspaper if I get it wrong). In my mind the Dalish can and will distill alcohol with everything, as good old south mediterranean old people, the Arlathvens are basically a big reunion to share drinks. I will sooner or later write Alyra missing some good homemade liquor, him missing spritz, and the pair combining forces to recreate something with the resources they have. Raiding a tavern, Alyra distracts the host and Zevran slips behind the counter and steals Aperol.
Unpopular opinion: Not really an unpopular opinion but he's Italian not Spanish. The name also sounds from Veneto, if you read it with the accent on the a. Zevràn. It's me being picky, tho, I really don't have ANYTHING against people portraying him as Spanish and using Spanish for Antivan! I saw some very nice iterations. I don't think I have opinions about him that are really unpopular tho.
Favorite relationship: I'm a sucker for a good Zevalistair fic. I said it.
Favorite headcanon: Even in a platonic relationship, he still checks in regularly with his friends from the Blight. They all have a discount.
Sten:
First impression: I was pretty cold about him? Like ok, I'll free him just to piss the Nun off, but meh it sounds like a character I don't really like, too much a boring Paladin for me, meh.
Impression now: He likes cookies and he approves when you disagree with him? OMG I STAN *badum tsssss* Jokes beside, I think he's kind of… A missed chance? He's an interesting character and believe me I generally find his kind of character extremely boring, but… He doesn't have as much insight as the others have, it would have been nice to see more, have some more cut scenes with him or a more complex personal quest that wasn't just a "find the missing object".
Favorite moment: The cookie admission.
Idea for a story: Him and the Warden meeting again, with him as the Arishok. A good old reunion.
Unpopular opinion: I think the real missed chance in romancing a Qunari is not him but the Arishok in DA2 and I will die on this hill.
Favorite relationship: He and the Warden. Or with Morrigan.
Favorite headcanon: He didn't use "Kadan" for nothing, he sincerely had feels for the Warden.

if you folks dont mind, could one of you write for an inquisitor that maybe romanced krem? i know hes not romanceable in game but man. i need more content for this ship, if possible. no pressure of course! have a wonderful day you two!
“Krem Romance Headcanons”
You got it, dude! From talking with others, I think a lot of people fell for Krem the first time he was properly introduced. Can’t blame them. This got long way too fast, oops.
-Lord Lex
-Absolutely fell hard when he first met you. He kept his cool though, only a flush on his face giving him away
-When you came to fight with them, he tried to show off a bit. Iron Bull was wondering why he kept getting hurt much more than usual
-Oh god, Bull. Chief tries to give him advice and tips on how to whoo a woman when Krem tells him about his crush. He regrets it.
-At Haven, he’ll try to strike up conversations with you more, coincidentally giving you a flower that he picked while gathering herbs
-At Skyhold, you caught him standing up on his chair looking around and, when spotting you, dropped to sit on the head of the chair. Told you it was just to keep an eye on things.
-He really wanted to ask you to dinner or to drinks, but was a little afraid of what you might say when he told you he was trans. Of course, he eventually did tell you and was so relieved to see you had no problems with it.
-It was actually when you got back from a mission that he asked, quite smoothly, if you’d like to get drinks with him. By smoothly I mean his hand missed the counter and he fell down to the ground.
-But you said yes. Holy shit, he’s way too excited and forgot he was on the ground. When you met back up with him at the front of the bar, he didn’t lead you inside but instead up the stairs next to it.
-On the roof of one of the towers, Krem had set up a blanket, some food, and drinks for you two. Tried to make it romantic and kept asking if this was alright.
-He never really leaves your side unless both of you have seperate things that need to get done. Will always offer you his hand and act like such a gentleman to you
-Dating Krem also means being around the Chargers more often and learning that all of them had been giving him advice. Yes, including Grim.
-You also learn that there are a lot more puns for Krem’s name thanks to Bull. If you use any of them when talking to Krem, you’ll see him flush before he tells you to hush.
-Whenever you're free or need to de-stress, he’ll take you up to the tower. Get you away from the hustle-bustle from down below and star gaze. Knows a lot of constellations, surprisingly.
-Great with cuddling. Finds all the pillows and blankets and makes a nest on your bed for you two to hide in. Holds you close in his lap while you two just talk or joke.
-Krem can cook and it’s pretty good. Whenever he makes something new, he tries to have you be the first to taste test it. Has also shown you his favorite recipes and how to make them.
-Every time you go on one of the major missions, Krem always gets worried for your safety but he knows you’re strong and capable. Plus, you got the Chief with you. Not sure if that makes it better or worse.
-Always finds you little trinkets when he travels so that he can give you a present when he gets back.
-When he leaves, he always takes your hand and places a gentle kiss to your knuckles, promising to come back safe for you. When he does come back, he picks you up in a hug.
-Boy will pick a fight with any noble that looks at you wrong. Imagine the mixed reactions with Krem Aclassi as the Inquisitor’s date to the Winter Palace.
-After the battle with Coreypheus, highly debates whether to sticking with the Chargers or by your side. Eventually decides on traveling, but knows that he'll always come back to you
-When you do lose your hand, he’s by your side offering his own to help you with anything. Even suggests getting an arm made by Dagna. He trusts her…Definitely.
