౨ৎ ₊˚﹒✶ JANUARY 15TH MARKED PRIM’S 26th birthday. to celebrate the milestone, the idol had an industry wide birthday party, choosing to spend her special day beachside at doellette’s very own exclusive OPULENCE RESORT. given the expensive location and expansive guest list, it was compared to a red carpet event rather than a ‘small get together’ — as primrose had labelled it. the all exclusive party had the presence of press, with professional photographers also present to capture pictures of the night, filled with dinner, dancing and music.

—— the theme for event was white glam, with prim showing up in a pearl skirt and corset she had custom made for the night. guests were to enter via a white carpet, in contrast to red, to further fit the theme. nana’s outfit was a simple white dress with a large jacket and fur boots, along with a fur purse. bae instead opted for something more chic, wearing a white dress with a fur edge that extended towards the back. fans got a first look at the girls’ outfits for the night on prim’s official instagram, where she posted the three of them with the caption ‘🤍🤍’.

—— the night was highlighted by it’s dinner, with a range of courses on offer for those in attendance to enjoy, accompanied by music and dancing. taking place in opulence’s ballroom, the party also had access to the beach behind them, watching the sun set as they all shared cocktails before the official party started. some snuck away to swim, while others instead opted to stay inside and enjoy the ambience. regardless of how guests chose to spend it, it was a fun night for all involved. towards the end, bae gave a toast for the birthday girl, wishing her “a life full of love and laughs.”

The official first game Women's World Chess Championship begins in approximately 2 hours! Very exciting for me as a new player who thoroughly enjoyed Nepo-Ding and all the emotion and fanfare and drama that came with it. But I couldn't help but notice: there is a distinct lack of promotion for the women's chess championship on FIDE's part. In some form this could be blamed on general inadequacy; FIDE struggled to even bill a location for the 2023 men's championship until the 11th hour and the event itself was. Not the most glorious, to put it lightly. It was to the point that they were being questioned by members of the chess media about if the event was even going to happen until the announcements were made. So it could be as simple as a bumbling organization doing their inevitable dropping of the ball on a prestigious event that will go on to be great for chess in spite of them. But do you want to know what the CEO of FIDE thought was smart to post this morning?

Encouraging people to shit on the women's world championship HOURS after the opening ceremony (which they did NOT make available to stream online either btw) is on its own, clear misogyny on the part of FIDE's highest ranking official, but it actually gets worse.

The WWCC does not yet have an official website. We are HOURS away from the first move.

There are two players billed to commentate the games: GM Alik Gershon (1994 under 14 world champion) and GM Xu Yi (world #716 of all players). No offense to these accomplished players, but neither of them are recognizable chess players to even dedicated viewers and neither are competitive globally. By contrast: the official FIDE stream for the men's championship featured GM Irina Krush (former US women's chess champion) and GM Daniil Dubov (2018 world rapid chess champion, currently ranked 28th of all players). As pointed out by twitter user @ChessProblem, the chess dot com commentary team is comparatively stacked: GM Judit Polgar (former world chess championship candidate, former world 8th ranked player, former women's 1st ranked player for 25 years consecutively, considered the GOAT of women's chess), GM Alexandra Kosteniuk (former women's world chess champion, women's world rapid chess champion, swiss national champion, both open and women's, Russian women's national champion), IM Jovanka Houska (9 time British women's chess champion)

I'm not (yet) a competitive women's player, and I am probably never going to reach the level of any of the players I've mentioned here, but if I was a younger women's player earning my norms and excited about this championship match, I think I would be equally if not more frustrated than I am right now. This is embarrassing, but women in chess unfortunately know all too well how FIDE rolls.

In fact, Susan Polgar, Judit's older sister called out FIDE for refusing to give her her final norm for years because of the misogyny of FIDE as she was on pace to break the record set by Bobby Fischer for youngest person to reach the status of grandmaster (GM), a record eventually broken by Judit. Unfortunately this year, there's a continuation of a long and awful trend in FIDE of treating women in chess as inherently weaker and less interesting players and it frustrates me as a woman player, especially as a trans player.

Somewhere between 2001-2003, our local Computer Man installed on our home PC a game whose official name I have only just learned: Desktop Games. This deceptively innocuously-titled game enabled you to absolutely trash your computer screen using your choice of a flamethrower, machine gun, termites, stamps, a paintball shooter, a hammer, a chainsaw, or a sci-fi phaser. At the tender age of seven, I had no concept of computer-induced stress-- indeed, programs such as Microsoft Word and Microsoft PowerPoint represented to me all the unbridled artistic potential of rainbow-coloured Word Art (the “sunset” preset was my favourite), page borders made up of cakes or globes or Keith Haring knock-off stick figures, and unlimited capacity to insert images from the Internet of my favourite characters from Pokémon.

Nevertheless, it seems the appeal of Making a Very Large Mess in Full Surround Sound transcends age, and Desktop Games was somehow on par with Wolfenstein 3D for me in terms of entertainment value. (I certainly should not have been playing Wolfenstein 3D at that age, but hey, it was the early 2000s.) I certainly was not included in Desktop Games’ target audience of technologically frustrated adults who were increasingly asked to incorporate the computer into their working lives.

Excitingly, it is available to download for free on the inestimable Internet Archive, which is where a solid 60% of the interesting things on the internet can be found.

“Desktop Games” does on a smaller, more mundane scale what most other games do with elaborately constructed fictional universes (Grand Theft Auto included): enable the player to engage in behaviours which they ordinarily couldn't in real life. The success of games which allow the player to engage in downright chaos, havoc and mayhem is demonstrable not only through titles like GTA, but through examples such as Untitled Goose Game, Goat Simulator, for which an especial genre has been coined: “Animal Mayhem Games” (Caracciolo, 2021). Arguably, things like Kandy Krush and Fruit Ninja also come under the category of games which facilitate the gleeful destruction of things for no other reason than sheer joie de vivre.

Indeed, I often used to boot up Skyrim for the sole reason of trashing everything in sight with my obscenely min-maxed werewolf character.

Attention Hidden KARDs!

We want to inform everyone of a group from Mexico called Crystal Krush who have plagiarized KARD, from using a card/poker concept for their members and even going so far as to translating KARD’s songs and trying to pass them off as their own.

@/twinklhwi on Twitter has put together a thread that you can see here with comparisons between Crystal Krush’s songs and KARD’s.  The group has copied AT LEAST six of KARD’s songs almost exactly, sometimes even using the same instrumental.  The same group also copied Girls’ Day “Don’t Forget Me” in the past, so unfortunately this does not seem to be new behavior for them.

Hidden KARDs have been trying to bring this to DSP Media’s attention so legal action can be taken.  If you would like to help, you can tag DSP and KARD’s official Twitter accounts (@/official_DSP and @/KARD_official) in replies to this thread or in your own tweets.  You can also try emailing DSP at [email protected] to explain the situation to them.  @/autumn_sky96 has offered their email as a template if you need some ideas for what to write.
