Been wanting to bring mum to Mei Heong Yuen Dessert (味香园甜品) located on the second floor of Northpoint City but the little corner is forever packed with customers. Finally found a table today but darn, the staff making shaved ice is out for lunch. So we settled for the Water Chestnut Cakes (马蹄糕) costing S$3.50 a plate. The translucent dessert had slices of crisp water chestnut suspended inside the steamed kueh (cake). If you like something light, this is for you but I found it a little plain tasting for my palate.
The Mango Roll (芒果卷) featured rice flour sheet wrapping around a tangy sweet piece of fresh mango. It is accompanied with a refreshing drizzle of sweet mango sauce which served to boost the mango flavour profile. This is S$4 well spent for a late afternoon treat.

RED, RED, EVERYWHERE
In bustling Petaling Jaya, preparations for Chinese New Year set the tone. Amidst firecrackers and bustling shops, a quick trip to secure sewing accessories becomes an immersion in festivity.

A person watching the very, very long string of firecrackers going off. I did not video it because there was a lot of echoing of sound in the area.
While I was…

My snack of Kueh Bingka Ubi or Baked Tapioca/Cassava Cake (烤木薯糕) with a cup of less sweet milk tea. This traditional Malay/Nyonya kuih (kueh) is semi-soft, chewy and fragrant. It has an inviting aroma from the pandan leaves, eggs and coconut milk. More importantly it’s extremely easy to make and it’s delicious.

KUEH OR KUIH SOJOURN
"Kueh" means "cake" in Malaysian...
When we opened the door to enter...
We moved to a table next to the large Assam Laksa mural on the wall. It looks so real and inviting.
..found out the name of the whatchamacallit...boomerangue?
It was mid-morning when I Whatsapp-“ed” (tested / sent a message) to my cousin, Chris. I received a phone call from someone just before that, bringing up a matter that I let it slide because I thought it was resolved. Apparently not. It was like a thorn (a tiny one at that), pricking my foot.
As for the word “Whatsapp” I am not sure if there is a past tense “ed” to it. Sounds better. Over here,…
