Hey, I just edited my first ever stream (was Kuu's Colosseum vod) and I used your suggested method!!! it was fun, and I see making more as an inevitability. Thank you! :]

Though there was one question I had, and maybe it's a diff in the software, but it was about the second pass, where you making the rough cuts based on the timestamps recorded but keep the original source unchanged. I assumed this was so that you could go back to the original source and get more or less context to make a transition between clips better.

I've been using Shotcut, and it has the ability to extend a clip back or forwards, re-gaining cut footage, so I effectively have the original video at all times even when I cut it to pieces. Am I misunderstanding the point of keeping the original vod alongside the rough cuts?

(Included both parts of your ask so I can answer in one, hope you don't mind!) Yeah so let me hit these points beat by beat!

Personally the "two timelines" approach for me is just helpful as a general frame of reference for how much original footage is there, how much I've been able to cut down to, where my clips are on that timeline, AND yes, how much context surrounds each clip that I could either remove or utilize as I edit the rough cut down further. Ultimately it's MOST useful for that last point though, so if something like that Shotcut feature works better for you then 100% feel free to omit my suggestion! Not everything that works for me is gonna work for you and that's totally fine! I just like having a version of the timeline with all my markers lined up to the uncut footage JUST IN CASE, and it's something I'd recommend as people get familiar with the needs of their own workflow and the abilities of the editing suite they use.

When it comes to the video lengths you should be looking at for a final cut, it REALLLY depends on a lot of different things. What's the mission statement of the video, who is the target audience, what are your goals for pacing. Personally, for the main SnapCube channel we like to sit around the 30-60 minute window for edits, give or take depending on how long the original stream was. This is often being cut down from streams around 3-4 hours minimum, so safe to say a LOT of stuff ends up on the cutting room floor. But personally I find that a lot of the biggest time cuts actually end up in the polishing phase after you've already done a rough cut, because that's when we are just completely "butchering" the original pacing of my commentary and bits and story moments to just make everything super snappy (haha), as that's the style we're going for. Ellie in particular does a lot of sentence splicing and rearranging my commentary to fit a smaller amount of footage that communicates the larger idea of a bit or conversation, it's super impressive. I'd say definitely play around with the format and try to take a couple passes to see how much you can get things down while still communicating the original experience well, but OVERALL your style is your style and if long videos are the vibe with the audience you're shooting for, there's no harm in that. You're gonna find a good balance with practice!

all you need is some love for the background characters and a wattpad account to enter the world of THHYSAU: Trigger Happy Havoc Yandere Simulator Alternate Universe.

In THHYSAU, some of the most popular characters, such as Ayano Aishi, Taro Yamada and Megami Saikou don’t appear to put other, lesser known characters in the spotlight. Who might those characters be, you ask? Let’s see the list of the twenty students joining us on this ride...and their headmaster.

Riku Somai, Ultimate Affluent Progeny. The protagonist of THHYSAU, Riku is a thoughtful and understanding boy who always wants the best for his friends. Although he’s known for his money, he has a bright mind, which he will demonstrate when the killings start to happen...

Daiki Atsuda, AKA Daku Atsu, Ultimate Paranormal Researcher. He is the only one Riku knows prior to the killing game, and one of the people who helps him the most. He also takes on somewhat of a role of a leader, hoping to put his classmates at ease by pretending he himself isn’t scared.

Kumiko Demizu, AKA Kuu Dere, Ultimate Librarian. She doesn’t care.

Kagayaki Konishi, AKA Kaga Kusha, Ultimate Scientist. A boy with a genius-level IQ, however disliked by his previous classmates for his abnormal behaviour.

‘Zametora’ Samejima, Ultimate Athlete. Nobody knows his first name. Maybe even his parents call him Zametora.

Tsuruzo Yamazaki, Ultimate Actor. A (melo)dramatic boy who finds himself grouping with Kagayaki and Zametora more often than not.

Shoku Tsuburaya, Ultimate Culinary Expert. A kind and sweet boy who sticks close to his brother rather than other people. Known for volunteering a lot at homeless shelters and orphanages.

Geiru ‘Geiju Tsuka’ Tsuburaya, Ultimate Painter. Only talks in sentences of one or two words, if at all. Shoku is more talkative and fills in for him.

Budou Masuyama, AKA Budo Masuta, Ultimate Martial Artist. Defeated the previous Ultimate Martial Artist, Raibaru Fumetsu, in a fight, earning the title over her. Despite this, the two remained close friends.

Genma Masuyama, AKA Gema Taku or Gema Masuta, Ultimate Gamer. Somehow, he is related to Budou. Doesn’t want to do anything other than play video games all the time.

Midori Gushima, Ultimate Enigma. Nobody knows if that’s her Ultimate because she’s a good puzzle solver or a puzzle herself. She’s incredibly talkative, and even talks to herself. Some people believe she is self-centered for always wanting to hear herself talk.

Iruma Dojima, AKA Iruka Dorufino, Ultimate Swimming Pro. Previous classmate of Zametora’s. Participated in the Olympics. He is quiet, which makes it more curious that he prefers to hang out with Midori.

Maka ‘Tansei’ Tanahashi, Ultimate Abstract Artist. Speaks in the third person. Always replies with love and enthusiasm to her followers, regularly organizing contests and giveaways. She has a really pure heart.

Enjiro Bandoh, AKA Enpitsu Byoga, Ultimate Pop Sensation. Lead singer and keytarist of the most popular J-pop boy-band in Japan, Cherry Blossom Rain. Said to be petty and obsessed with his own appearance, whether that be physical or fame-wise.

Yakumo Shiraishi, AKA Yaku Zaishi, Ultimate Chemist. Also very good at programming, for which he’s been nicknamed the Ultimate Programmer. Previous classmate of Kaga’s.

Otohiko Meguro, Ultimate Nurse. A clumsy, but brilliant boy who has an incredibly annoying fanbase that boils him down to just a cute and soft boy. Despite this, he is one of the youngest of Riku’s classmates, and was awarded his title after finding a cure to a strange disease and managing to stop it from spreading. Apparently, he has a ‘condition’, too.

Kyuji Konaka, Ultimate Trend-Setter. The vice-president of the student council at his own school. His word online is law... But is that what he really wants?

Saeko Baisho, AKA Sakyu Basu, Ultimate Fashionista. Rumoured to have been dating Kyuji until she stepped forward and said otherwise. She’s a charismatic girl, but rumoured to use her looks to her advantage.

Togo Tabata, AKA Toga Tabara, Ultimate Essayist. A boy who was clubless for a long time, unable to find an interest until turning to essaying to let out his feelings. Good friends with Kyuji and Otohiko since before Hope’s Peak.

Oboro Shinkawa, AKA Osoro Shidesu, Ultimate Delinquent Gang Leader. Rumoured to have beaten tens of boys her age with her bare hands. Led a gang at her previous school, and left Umeji Kizuguchi in charge. Some people believe they are dating, other people believe they have no interest in each other... To Osoro, her delinquent friends are like her sons.

Info-Chan, the Headmaster of Hope’s Peak Academy. She’s a half-and-half coloured fox that wants nothing but despair. Her favorite thing to do is laugh at her students and their misery, and create more misery for them to laugh even more.

One headmaster.

Twenty students.

Six trials.

Multiple suspects.

i really really wanna know as much about yansim and know like all the students and everything off head like you do. do you have any advice or should i just inhale everything i can find?

Hmm...I'm not sure I know absolutely everything about students and lore...well, maybe I know enough

And all this because since 2016 I have been steadily passionate about yansim and watched all the changes in the game

So, in general, I do not advise absorbing all the information about the lore and characters that are in your way. It is better to start reading about those who are most interesting to you and move on to related things or characters. Before, when there was less information and characters, it was easier, because you learned it all gradually, and every big update your attention was focused on a certain circle of characters

Maybe I can remember the general eventfulness of game updates from the very beginning of development, so you also can easily learn yansim lore gradually

So,

2014: The game just started coming out, so there wasn't any lore or interesting characters, exept Info-chan. Only the concept of yandere simulation as such flourished

2015: The first iconic characters appeared - Midori, Pippi Osu, Phantom-chan, rainbow six. Hints about the lore of Kokona began to appear

2016: Rival introduction, the appearance of other iconic characters - Oka, Budo, Mai Waifu, Basu sisters, Kuu Dere, Ryuto, Musume. The first clubs with actual leaders and members - occult and martial arts. With the appearance of Musume, Kokona's lore has expanded, as she has her own big task. Journalist's cassettes. Also...as I remember, Fun Girl appeared

2017: Nemesis and the mission mode, club leaders (but not yet in the game, just sprites and information about them), male rival introduction as an April Fool's joke, the peak of Koumi's activity (I know that this is just a fan artist, but their contribution to the fandom is undeniable), first thoughts about Yakuza and his lore, Ayano's childhood, Lovesick mode aka Serious mode, video of driven Kokona to murder, student council appearance (very end of the year)

2018: The appearance of bullies, delinquents and their lore, more clubs, and their leaders are actual characters instead of gray girls (who later turn out to be the Empty Demon)

Note: My interest in that year had cooled off a little compared to last year. I wasn't interested in a bunch of new characters at first, and perceived them as I now perceive NPCs from the 1980s mode. I became attached to some of them only through fan art. (Not sure that the same will happen with the 1980s mode NPCs, because they are all about the same and do not have any interesting information about themselves)

2019: The appearance of Hazu, Otohiko, Toga and Kyuji. Buraza town, work in a maid cafe. The appearance of Raibaru (not yet in the game, but only in the video)

2020: Demo release, SNAP mode

2021: 1980s mode. Saisho's letter to Ryoba. "Tragic ending". Rejected 12th rival (fan name Maria Inoue)

This is an approximate chronology of significant additions to the game. So, I think you can gradually learn the important events of each year. It would also be quite useful to familiarize yourself with the Dev's videos from the very beginning of development. I remember how in 2017 I organized such a marathon for myself, and thanks to this I learned a lot about the game and it's lore. It will also be quite interesting to study Dev's very first posts on the development blog...although it mostly plays a nostalgic role rather than giving any new lore knowledge

The main thing is not to force yourself to learn if something is not interesting. This is information that has accumulated over 8 years, so everything should be learned gradually, as if you are watching an ongoing series

I just watched the music video for the first time, and I agree that it's pretty yandere especially with that added context. I admit, when I was young and heard this on the radio, I thought the song was about cannibalism, but this makes a lot more sense.

NCT Wish unit joined the rest of neos the established way: Taeyong as the ring-leader sent through ether (?) a signal, 6 boys responded and met each other in one dream with the ocean.

Taeyong was looking for them in his 2023 Golden Age teaser (same computer, phone tracking app).

New elements: the green star/sun and the black cat.

Considering the new unit's mascot is a green star, it will be their symbol - "Wishing upon the Green star". The Sun (without specific colour, familiar yellow) and The Moon (usually Red moon) existed in the lore already. "The Sun rises above the Ocean" (127) and "Flying to the Moon" (WayV). What's Dream's symbol? Hm.. their lore is the most complicated to me. Write me your ideas, please.

The black cat got a name: Koo (Kuu). Fans counted, there were 26 missing posters (26 neos as of now). And the cat went missing on April 9th - the date the "7th sense" MV was released, the official start of NCT. On the bridge there were 18 cats, Riku was in gakuran (middle school uniform, a hint at the past), so maybe the number corresponded to the number of neos in 2018.

The cat's name is written in katakana (like foreign names and words) and sounds the same as "to eat, to consume". There is also "to live" meaning (in a sense of eating and surviving).

Interestingly, it is used in "to eat up time" as well.

As a noun, "Kuu" means "empty air, sky, emptiness, void". Which might be the actual meaning of the name. The cat has green eyes. A green star in the sky. Riku was searching.

In the Wish for out Wish video there was overlaying of two dimensions/possibilities: Riku with a cat, Riku without a cat. Which, of course, made me instantly think of Schrödinger's cat. Two possibilities, the observer is needed for one state to win.

I wonder if the cat was chosen for the choice? Neos choosing among endless possibilities (multiple dreams) what will become the reality?
