14. Are there any tropes you would only read if written by a trusted friend or writer?

Kid fics, I think. I'm not generally a fan of them because they just don't suit the vast majority of my ships, and they need to be done a particular way for me to enjoy them. I'm not generally very interested in children XD So there's that.

And smut. I've read a few, some better and more memorable than others, and the ones I enjoyed pretty much always carried a lot of emotional weight. Smut just plain bores me a lot of times because I have no connection to any desire to have sex.

26. Would you rather write a fic that had no dialogue or one that was only dialogue?

Definitely no dialogue because I love rambling, exploring characters' inner workings, and examining them very closely. Technically my Anura drabble is a fic with no dialogue, and Songs of Love and Death has quite a few chapters with hardly any dialogue at all because they were very introspective.

(as a side note for the only dialogue one, I have written plays and short audio scripts which are technically only dialogue. I'm just gonna link them here: Sontaran Composition, Amnesia, and Captured in Space)

29. What songs would be (or are) on a playlist for Butterfly Queen?

This is a hard one seeing as the fic is quite fluffy and positive and all my music goes in pretty much the opposite direction (look I just love either yearning or dramatic shit XD), but I will try to leave you at least a few songs...

Something something memory of her past, butterflies as a reminder, Jenny singing Vastra to sleep, or perhaps the memory of her mother(s) telling her to sleep in her head? Honestly the possibilities are endless, and the entrancing music and singing itself is just so magical to me.

This one's also fairly early on in the fic, as it's quite weighty and emotional. Also the song is Jenny/Vastra coded as FUCK. I'm going insane over it daily <3

Absolutely the wrong time period as this is medieval, but I love how bouncy it is and the spring vibes it has, and I think that fits quite well, despite the period obviously being a different one.

Some more instrumental that fits Vastra as a whole quite well, I think.

And something very positive and sweet! Honestly? This fits quite well XD Just gliding on through Looking down on the view from up here

38. Did any of your fics get surprisingly popular (whatever that means to you)? Which ones? Why do you think they were so successful?

I mean, this kinda goes for every single fandom outside of my little niche because there's actually a wider audience for them out there. I will say tho, the constant popularity of my KyaLin stuff (relative for me) made me reluctant to write them because that's kinda not anywhere near my main thing... I'm taking my two The Dragon Prince fics with the most kudos out of that because I think that was a spam attack (I also got like a dozen spam comments on each of them...)

I suppose one that did come as a surprise was my Lilith Clawthorne coming out fic? I had never written The Owl House before that (and quite frankly barely afterwards), and it was quite interesting!

But focusing on my Doctor Who ones which are my main thing, I'm surprised that both Pacing (a Thasmin fic with a heavy focus on autistic 13) and Emerald Scales (Colours Soulmate AU) got over 80 kudos. And You're not useless, never, to me... is also a surprise because reading it back, damn that was EARLY writing and could so do with a rewrite XD

Also, Burning Love (Jennah/Anise from Guild Wars 2) got a whooping NINE kudos, which is quite frankly so surprising considering there are seven fics about them and two of them are mine? Every single kudo/comment on my Guild Wars fics is a win for me honestly, it's by far the smallest fandom (in terms of interest in the canon characters) I write for.

I suppose most of the stuff outside Doctor Who is popular because I'm not filling a niche with an audience of 20 people at BEST. My Thasmin and Osgate stuff tends to be well-received as well, but I've just chosen a niche for me with a very small audience... XD

OVERWATCH FIC

I'm As Human As You:

I have half of the next chapter written and I do have a holdover chapter that's almost done that'll go up relatively soon, hopefully (if you're reading this Liz I will message you later). I'll have kind of an update and timeline when I publish that but TLDR I bought a house and I'm job hunting so I've been EXTREMLEY busy. I'm literally typing this on the way there lol.

HOWEVER I do have a pre-written Moicy Soulmate AU (tattoo soulmates) and I should be able to start publishing that toward the end of July. I think y'all will like that one :)

I am publishing some one-shots but that's because I can literally write them in a day or two or casually write on them for like 20 minutes when I have the time versus trying to maintain a consistent plot in a 92 thousand word fanfic. I appreciate y'all's patience and all the support I've been getting. Y'all rock. ❤️❤️

APEX FICS

Again close to done with that one fusehound fic I updated in January. Have a couple one-shots I may work on but that's basically it. Maaaaay get it out this month because I think I literally have a couple paragraphs and editing to do but no promises.

ATLA/LOK FIC

Yeah this is new lol. I've been a fan since I was a kid but I am starting to publish for LOK specifically, Lin Beifong centric or Kyalin. I have a bigger fic I've been planning and working on off and on for the past two years but I won't be publishing that until I finish my main Moicy fic. Otherwise just maybe some one shots when I need a break from OW or something lol.

is so fucking toxic. Literally any time a fan page or group posts about Korra, the replies are teeming with (mostly dudes) screaming about how she ruined the entire universe. 

Is Korra perfect as a show? No. Almost no show is perfect.

Is it probably a marker of weird unresolved anger issues to spend so much of your time seeking out Korra content specifically to hate on? Yeah. 

Anyway yeah I’ve been MIA, I’ve been working on some stuff but the toxicity really puts me off writing fics. 

The fact I’ve gotten a fair few snotty DMs about my Kyalin stuff is also why I’ve been away, bc why bother if it only leads to hate?

B: A pairing you initially didn’t consider but someone changed your mind.

Any of the non-canon ones tbh. This past year has been my first time getting actively involved with fandom/shipping, so I could pull from any of those lol but S/O to @orangepanic and their Irosami agenda.

C: A pairing you wish you shipped, but just can’t.

The main one that comes to mind is Kyalin. The fan art is cute, but my heart will forever and always be Linzin. The chokehold they had on me when the show first came out and now is real

E: Have you added anything stupid/cracky/hilarious to your fandom, if so, what?

Hmm I think I’ll have to shout out my Ryu/Kuvira rare pair fics. No one thinks about him and besides he’s such a bum in canon, so it is a cracky pair

Also another one maybe Date Night. It was based on Iroh slipping into dirty talk which feels odd for his canon character haha so mind you its sooo 🙈 being my first fic, thinking about it makes me wanna jump sometimes fr 😂

I put my liked songs on shuffle and got Problems - A R I Z O N A and it’s giving Mako for me. It’s a good vibe while putting overthinking onto words beautifully. Aside from that being part of his character, he’s overly hated in a lot of the fandom, like sheesh let the boy rest

Hi Peachy Pants!

9) Are you more of a drabble or a longfic kind of writer? Pantser or plotter? Do you wish you were the other? I think I like writing drabbles or one-shots a little more than long-fics because its easier. When I say easier, it's got less to do with easy to write and more to do with easy to express. I have random spurts of inspiration and that's often inconvenient to incorporate into longfics. Although, my longfics are like my babies🥺 For my drabbles I'm a panster and go where my stories and characters take me, but for longfics I can often be a plotter, but the outline remains in my head. I don't write it down, because I feel like I've given it some kinda life? idk it's weird. None of this is set in stone though- every story and character has it's own requirements.

11) What do you envy in other writers? THERE IS SO MUCH TO ENVY!! I'm a huge fan of all of you🤡 I hate doing descriptions because my ass is lazy af. I envy the way you guys make me "see" and "experience" everything your characters by painting such a vivid picture through your writing. You know those works that make you engage all 5 of your senses? Ooof I love them and I so wish I had the skill (and patience) to write that way. I'm more like here's a glimpse- take it or leave it lol.

18) Do any of your stories have alternative versions? (plotlines that you abandoned, AUs of your own work, different characterisations?) Tell us about them. Oh, absolutely I do. My AUs often come with their own AUs lol. For example, with Chaos: there was going to be a teeny tiny kyalin subplot. Also, Bumi and Lin weren't meant to get together so early on- I was going to do some more of a love triangle crisis but I was told it was frustrating to read or something (I don't remember correctly). With Soul: there was certainly a Linumi subplot which was very self-indulgent which I had to discard cuz you all would kill me for it💀

19) Is there something you always find yourself repeating in your writing? (favourite verb, something you describe ‘too often’, trope you can’t get enough of?) I feel like I often start a lot of my sentences with "I feel like" lmao. I also use the words, "really", "also", "very", "a lot", "like". I often use the "first time" tropes a lot. I think they're neat. And ofc, miscommunication and humor are my favorites!

I'm not entirely sure what this is referencing?

To my knowledge I've never rated LOK ships. I have some that I like more than others, but that's just my own tastes and opinions. It's not like I think any are objectively bad or good. Shipping is all about what you like to see personally and your own interpretations of the characters. Even ships I personally don't like I don't think are "bad" ships. I just don't care for them. Any rating would just be my own tastes, like saying I like tilapia more than mackerel. And if I occasionally say Irosami is the best ship I hope people know I mean the best ship for me.

Comparatively I've written Bopal way more than Makopal, too, which I think appears as a background ship in two fics? So you really have nothing to worry about there. Makorra is actually the second most common ship on my AO3.

I've never written Lin as gay nor claimed her to be. Kyalin is a fine ship and there's nothing wrong with that headcanon but I've only written her with men myself. Bumi, Zolt, Mako. So I don't know where you got that from.

You know I love my rare pairs though so you should expect me to shake up common pairings just for the hell of it. That's how I roll. Anything you don't like, go ahead and skip! There's plenty of Makorra, too.

I’ve gotten this question before, and I think I forgot to answer it if I recall, but as of now, probably not.

I haven’t been active in the LOK fan base for a while, and I hadn’t really noticed any interaction on my KyaLin fics beyond when LOK got popular again, so there didn’t feel like a demand? So as of now, KyaLin (while I still love them) hasn’t been on my radar to work with. Plus I’ve really enjoyed more self insert work over character x character.

There’s always a possibility for the interest to come back. I’m not saying never, but just not rn.

Kyalin Headcanon

I saw one hc about Lin and Opal relationship and I thought it was so cute that I decide to give my own twist.

Lin learn to like Opal and because Opal wants to take care of her aunt (who she thinks is too lonely) Lin gives her one key to the apartment, just in case of emergency, and Opal go there from time to time to make sure her aunt have food and the fruits doesn't goes bad.

So then Lin starts to date Kya, Kya moves in and now she buys the groceries that Lin doesn't have time to do, one of the Lin's day off they are just hanging out in the bedroom, Lin's asleep and Kya is reading the news when she listens to the front door lock opening, Kya goes see who is it and Opal finds her wearing Lin's sweatpants, Lin comes out to see what's happening and Opal realizes her aunt is dating Kya.

#81 kya and lin miss girl would always be forgetting her jackets and getting cold even when kya tells her to bring one

prompt #81 - “It’s cold, you should take my jacket.”

she would absolutely forget her coat, or she’d just be stubborn and leave it behind on purpose claiming she wouldn’t be cold and kya would have to fight the urge to aggressively facepalm every single time

Kya had never seen city hall so decked out. There were decorations everywhere, the drinks and food tables long with seemingly endless supplies. There were people chatting all around, and the chandeliers above were casting a soft, warm light on all those filling the hall. Kya’s arm was strung through Lin’s, the chief’s arm bare for once in something other than her uniform.

President Moon made her way to a balcony looking over the majority of the guests, clearing her throat into a microphone. When she spoke, her clear voice was amplified to reach every corner of the large room.

“The evening’s performance is to begin soon. If everyone would begin making their way outside, it would be much appreciated by myself and our performers,” She shut off the microphone and stepped away from the balcony’s railing.

Ushers started to herd people out the doors, leading them to a courtyard out back of the hall. Kya and Lin fell to the back of the crowd, making their way out the doors just as the current leader of the famous Ty Lee Travelling Acrobats stepped onto the temporary stage. The audience cheered and clapped loudly in anticipation.

“Welcome to all our guests! We are so glad you are here this evening to celebrate Republic City’s seventy-fifth anniversary! This wonderful, diverse city was renamed from Cranefish Town to Republic City seventy-five years ago on this day by the great Avatar Aang. The renaming of the city was only the beginning of the incredible city we have today, that will no doubt only grow and improve with more time! And with that, I present the Ty Lee Travelling Acrobats to celebrate this great day!” She raised a hand above her and grabbed a rope that dropped out of the barrel above the stage.

Several people cheered again as she wound her arm into the rope, twisting herself upside-down as it pulled her up until she was hidden by the proscenium. Once she had disappeared from sight, music began to play and the real performance started. About ten acrobats twirled and flipped their way onto the stage, gracefully forming a pyramid in the centre of the stage. The acrobat at the top stood with their arms up before jumping and somersaulting one, two, three times before landing.

Kya was watching the performance intently, her fingers drumming steadily against Lin’s strong arm. Lin watched as well, though her teeth were clenched and every muscle in her body was engaged in an attempt to keep her from shivering. After about ten exhausting minutes of trying to keep her body still, she gave up and allowed a tremor to travel up her spine. Her body continued to shake almost unnoticeably in the crisp air, the occasional larger shiver racking through her.

Kya remained oblivious to how cold Lin was until after the first number was over. She looked over at her grinning widely, only to see Lin’s jaw tight to keep her teeth from chattering. Kya sighed and pursed her lips.

“I told you you should’ve brought a coat,” she scolded.

“It’s not cold, I’m fine,” Lin responded through her teeth.

“Lin, it’s cold, you should take my jacket,” Kya responded, already moving to take off her beautifully crafted water tribe parka.

“You’ll be cold without it, I’m really fine,” Lin grumbled as Kya held it out for her.

“I’m from the southern water tribe, this is nothing for me. You, on the other hand, need it desperately,” Lin huffed and Kya raised an eyebrow at her, daring her to decline the offer again.

Lin decided against it, instead allowing Kya to help her into the warm, soft coat. Once it was on, she pulled the front tightly around her. Kya chuckled, draping her arm over Lin’s shoulders.

“Not cold, eh?” Lin growled a warning at Kya, who laughed again before quieting and returning her attention to the stage.

They’d arrived at the south pole two days earlier to visit Katara, who had insisted they come so she could see them as a married couple. Lin had tried to argue that they weren’t any different now then before, but Kya had looked at her with those puppy dog eyes and she’d relented.

So now here they were, standing on a bridge made entirely of ice over the freezing river below. Lin was wrapped in at least three large parkas, her hands gloved and a hat of her head. Kya on the other hand, had a simple and stylish coat on, one that looked as if it weren’t very warm.

Lin glanced at her wife, who was gazing down the river and watching people go about their business quietly.

“It’s c-c-cold, you sh-should take my j-j-jacket,” Lin said, her teeth chattering.

Kya raised an eyebrow at her, laughing lightly.

“Linny dear, I grew up visiting here regularly. I’m not cold at all, and clearly you need those coats more than I do,” Kya shifted her body to face Lin.

“Spirits, you’re so cold your lips are turning blue! Let’s get you back to the house, why don’t we?” Lin bobbed her head yes and followed Kya to back to their hut.

here's a short kyalin drabble featuring a (somewhat) perceptive mako. commission slots are open! message me for details!

“Mako, this is not a good time.” Lin didn’t even need to look up to know who was bursting into her office; he rarely remembered to knock.

Kya, who’d been perched on the edge of Lin’s desk - in the perfect position to lean over for a kiss - jumped off to put distance between them. “What’s a girl gotta do to get a kiss around here?” she muttered, arms crossed.

She and Kya had been trying to sneak a moment alone all morning. It wasn’t Lin’s fault her police station had suddenly become a flurry of activity on their six-month anniversary, but it certainly hadn’t won her any favors with her girlfriend. Especially when Kya had been begging her to take the day off all week.

They could celebrate here, though.

In private.

Where no one else could see them.

Except Mako, apparently.

When he finally stepped into the room, his eyes darted between Kya and Lin.

Lin did her best to keep a neutral exterior, but she suspected some irritation had settled on her face. “What do you want?”

Mako’s eyebrows furrowed some as he nodded to Kya. “Uh - hey, Kya - I -” He stared at Lin again, as if he’d almost cracked a difficult case but couldn’t seem to place the last piece.

“I’m a very busy woman,” Lin snapped, laying down the pen she’d picked up when he’d walked into the room. “There better be a fire in the precinct or some other emergency that warrants a beat cop bursting into my office.”

“No, Chief, not an emergency, but -”

“Let me guess, you’ve got something to celebrate?” Kya cut in, and Lin’s mouth went dry with surprise. “But there’s all these interruptions that wouldn’t even be a problem if your partner would just take the day off?”

“Kya, let me handle my own officers,” Lin said, gritting her teeth.

Mako still hadn’t figured it out. “No, actually - I came to talk to you about all the flowers that were delivered for, uh, the Chief? For some reason? But, yeah, I’m not dating anyone, exactly. Korra and Asami actually ended up -” His eyes went wider, and he stared harder at the two of them. And then his eyes went wide. “Oh. Oh, wait -”

Lin stood up in her chair. “You’re dismissed.”

Mako began to move towards the door, then paused. “Chief, this might not be my place-”

“It’s definitely not.”

“But -” Mako shrugged, fumbling for words. “I can tell everyone Tenzin needs you for something. There’s a pretty remote cliff on Air Temple Island. It makes… a nice picnic place. In case you ever needed that. For some reason.”

And then he was gone.

Lin turned to Kya, eyebrow arched. “What was that?”

Kya shrugged. “I didn’t say anything.”

“You absolutely did!” Lin rubbed her forehead. “Kya, there’s a reason I didn’t take the day off… I don’t want anyone to know about us. Just yet.”

“Oh.” Kya’s face fell.

“No, I’m not - ashamed!” Lin tried to backtrack. “And it’s not you. It’s me. I’m… embarrassed. Embarrassed to have a weakness.” The word left a bad taste in her mouth. “But... I should’ve told you instead of blowing you off. Sitting in my office isn’t a date. Not a good one, at least.”

Kya stared at her for a long moment. “I never would’ve made that comment to Mako if -”

“It’s not your fault.” Lin shook her head. She’d been stupid to think that this was something she could hide from Kya.

Kya came over to drape her arms around Lin’s shoulders. “You’re not weak for liking someone, you know.”

“Mm.” Lin wished she agreed.

Kya’s lips brushed against her hair. “We don’t have to go anywhere if you don’t want to. I’m patient.”

Lin took a deep breath, nodding. “No, let’s do that picnic.” She started to stand up, then frowned. “Wait, did Mako say flowers?”

Kya scratched the back of her neck. “I might’ve gotten carried away…”

Lin raised an eyebrow. “My precinct is going to be covered in flowers, isn’t it?”

Kya pressed a kiss to her cheek, smiling. “Am I a dead woman?”

A smile slipped past Lin’s tough exterior. “I’m still deciding.”
