Finally, here is the submission results:
PRELIMINARY POLLS WILL BE UP TUESDAY 7/25 @ 12PM EDT
tags: preliminaries matches (the actual polls, not including any reblogs) bracket info propaganda
INFO UNDER CUT
✨✨There were a couple of submissions that were openings, rather than endings, so those have been removed. (So there were 700 valid submissions, 702 total submissions)
✨✨Songs that only got 1 or 2 votes will not be advancing.
✨✨At most 2 songs per series will be allowed in the bracket.
✨✨There were five series that had more than 2 qualifying songs (Chainsaw Man, Fullmetal Alchemist, Hunter x Hunter, JoJo's Bizarre Adventure, and Naruto).
✨✨There will be FOUR preliminary polls for these series. They will be a week long.
✨✨There will not be a preliminary round for Fullmetal Alchemist, because Uso and Shunkan Sentimental had many more votes than the other three submissions so I will just be putting those in the bracket automatically.
✨✨For HXH, JJBA, and Naruto, I will be putting the top voted song in the bracket, and the rest will battle to the death for the other designated spot. (I didnt do this for CSM bc it was a three way tie lol.) The endings that will be advancing for these series are:
"Hyouri Ittai" by Yuzu
"Roundabout" by Yes
"Wind" by Akeboshi
✨✨The Preliminary Polls will be:
💥Chainsaw Man (2 winners)
"Fight Song" by Eve
"First Death" by TK from Ling Tosite Sigure
"Hawatari Nioku Centi" by Maximum the Hormone
"In the Back Room" by syudou
"Tablet" by TOOBOE
"Time Left" by ZUTOMAYO
💥Hunter X Hunter (1 winner)
"Hunting For Your Dream" by Galneryus
"Just Awake" by Fear, and Loathing in Las Vegas
"Reason" by Yuzu
💥JoJo's Bizarre Adventure (1 winner)
"Akuyaku♢Kyousoukyoku ~ Oingo to Boingo~" by Various (Makoto Yasumura, Motoko Kumai, Hidenobu Kiuchi)
"I Want You" by Savage Garden
💥Naruto (1 winner)
"Broken Youth" by NICO Touches the Walls
"By My Side" by Hemenway
"Rainbow" by Vacuum Hollow
"U Can Do It!" by DOMINO
✨✨With the prelims, the total number of songs that will be advancing to the bracket is 62. I will not be doing any other preliminary rounds to fill in the last two spots, because I'm busy, and I really dont want to do polls for the 55 songs that got 2 votes, only for 2 spots. I will either have the bracket just be 62 songs OR i will use my godly powers to just put in two of the other songs that i like. its a surprise teehee.
✨✨The endings that are guaranteed a spot in the bracket are:

My top 10 (and more) best openings and endings... in the anime story?
Today I bring you my favorite anime opening and endings, they are just my personal taste and the love I have for them. This list don’t have any order. Click the title to watch the video ♡
1. One Piece - Opening 1
Of course, it has to be the first ever opening of One Piece; with more than 20 years in broadcast, the anime has many good openings (and the few endings it has are also great), but the most memorable and iconic is undoubtedly We Are! By Yoko Ishida.
Tumblr media
2. Naruto - Openings 2, 3 & 4
The first era of Naruto, and probably the one that was in the childhood of many people too, and although in Shippuden there are many good openings and endings (highlight above all Silhouette), the first openings hit in a different way: Haruka Kanata by ASIAN Kung Fu Generation, GO!!! by FLOW and the one that is extremely special to me Kanashimi wo Yasashisa ni by Little By Little.
Tumblr media
3. Gangsta Opening
It is very likely that there are not many people who know this anime, much less its opening, but this one has a little piece of my heart, besides being very good (in my opinion) and having super interesting characters. Renegade by STEREO DIVE FUNDATION.
Tumblr media
4. Kuroko no basket - All Openings
All, absolutely all Kuroko's openings are good, with an aesthetic that leaves no one unsatisfied and songs that are consistent with the plot, in addition to being Kuroko no basket one of those animes that I remember with great affection, but I do have to stand out one, that would be the opening 5 Punky Funky Love by GRANRODEO.
Tumblr media
5. Haikyuu - Opening 1
I have to admit that I never managed to finish the first season of haikyuu, and therefore I don't have much to say about it, but I do remember that all the songs, both the openings and the endings were excellent, worthy of playing in osu, so I put here the opening 1 Imagination by SPYAIR.
Tumblr media
6. Kamisama Hajimemashita - Opening 2
Again, I have to say that my love is present to decide this, but all the seasons of Kamisama Hajimemashita are great, and all his songs performed by Hanae are completely no skip, but in this case, I prefer the opening 2 Kamisama no Kamisama for the dynamism of its animation.
Tumblr media
7. Ao Haru Ride Opening
And again and again, a shoujo Opening is here, but I have to say that I really love the genre, and of course I love the openings, and more if we consider that a great artist interprets this song. The song is called Sekai Wa Koi Ni Ochiteru and is by CHiCO with HoneyWorks
Tumblr media
8. Jujutsu kaisen - Ending 1
I think I already talk about this before, and if I don’t, here I can say how great this endings is. Jujutsu Kaisen is well known for its style of animation, and all their openings are just amazing too, but we must considerate the boom that the endings was for the anime community and for the just released animation, even if Ali are cancelled, Lost in Paradise is still an amazing song.
Tumblr media
9. Beastars - Opening 1
And right here we have another song by Ali, that by the time this opening was released they were at their best, the song is called Wild Side and it is undoubtedly an excellent song, but the most striking thing about the opening is not only this, but the stop motion style that was so new for an anime opening.
Tumblr media
10. Daisy kyoukai no kanta
And the last one, the ending that I remember with a lot of love, and that may not be popular or a wonderful thing, but it is without a doubt for me, from the song, the animation and the representation of the story that it shows, Daisy by Stereo Dive Foundation.

Now this wasn't written for Simi Day but since we are celebrating this pairing I felt I should take you all back to how it started.
2015. I was 20. New to the fandom and utterly terrified. 😂 I was mostly known at that point in the Top Gear fandom and happily spent most of my days there but then the fracas happened and Top Gear was cancelled.
Thanks to my interest in Jenson Button from when he was Star In A Reasonably Priced Car, I decided to give F1 a try when I found it was actually on my TV one weekend. It was the Malaysian GP and Sebastian stole my heart.
Of course. Me being me. I looked for something to ship. At the time I only knew one author who did both Top Gear and F1. Their name was kangeiko and they had a few Brocedes stories so I tried that at first but wasn't really fussed.
And then I found Simi. I was hooked.
My first ever F1 fanfiction was posted after my very first race. It was bizzare and of course the thing is littered with mistakes. But this was the fic I introduced myself to the fandom with. Its six years old now and very cringe but would it be Simi day if I didn't share how my fandom journey began?
I was terrified posting this. At this point I had watched 1 race and wasn't entirely too sure how to voice Kimi or Seb. But a good friend convinced me to post it and I did. So thank you @true-illusion
Now I'm almost at my 200th Simi story and my 400th one in total.
You guys welcomed me with open arms after Top Gear ended and you've made my life fun.
Thanks to Simi I've also made some good friends and I just wanted to say thank you ❤ @kyoukai-kanata @that-was-a-lie @rainbowintheskyf1 @sewismi-agenda @kimiraikkonen @kimisicecream
So here it is. In true Emma fashion. My first ever F1 Fanfic.

I’m always a slut for music recommendations and I’m getting into anime again, but I don’t want to ask a super boring question, so… Top 10 of anime openings and endings? Like your personal favourites?
youtube
Bleach's first OP still stands the test of time, even if the visuals are maybe a bit lackluster these days
youtube
Even if you haven't watched Naruto, you've probably heard most of its more popular OP/ED's, even if you haven't realized it. So here's a more underrated one that I still listen to regularly!
youtube
Not an OP/ED but I love this performance from Kyoukai No Kanata, The ED "DAisy" Is amazing (but completely different) too!!
youtube
Shiki no Uta from Samurai Champloo is still incredible
youtube
Can't find the actual footage but Date Time from Samurai Flamenco is bubblegum GOODNESS and it's first OP, Just One Life, is the complete opposite but I love them both
And I'll just hyperlink the rest to avoid an even longer post
Sarazanmai's ED is still a fave to this day
It's cheating to say Again from FMA Brotherhood but like... DAMN
You Only LIve Once from Yuri on Ice is still fun as hell and of COURSE I love history maker but I fee like YOLO gets skipped over
*Spits on Banana Fish but hands you its first OP*
*murders the mangaka responsible for gravitation but hands you this song a fictional band in the anime performed* (DO NOT DO NOT DO NOT WATCH GRAVITATION OR READ IT but this song.... hell yeah)
NOT from an anime but from... a south korean MMORPG from 2005 but footage from it was included in every AMV ever back then... I present you Always from Yogurting.
i hope that's ten but i refuse to count i am sleepy

Unsettling Affair Part 2
Tumblr media
Summary: You and Kai meet again
Pairing: Kai Chisaki x reader
Warnings: Cussing, Angst, Violence (blood), bad writing
a/n: Ash-Chan (❀˘꒳˘)♡(˘꒳˘❀)
And with that in mind, your quirk activated… blood pooled from his body, within an instant his face was drained of life. His body dropped to the ground gaining the attention of those within the close vicinity. But you were quick to draw a solid katana from the remnants of the man.
Chisaki Y/N
Quirk: Blood bending
They can manipulate anyone's blood including their own! (similar to Kyoukai no Kanata)
Quickly, checking your surroundings, you found there to be no hero physically capable of withholding themselves against you, not to mention mentally capable! As all the officers and heroes started to become knowing of your presence, you drew your katana up and sliced through as many bodies as you could.
Completely taken over by rage and other exploding emotions, you saw an opening, and you took it. Speeding your way through, cutting down your obstacles, you found yourself in front of pro hero Ryukyu, standing there, not able to process what was happening fast enough.
Though you may have not been  in full control of your body at this point, you were certainly no person to not have a plan.
Using the blood sources you had just created, you make a bloodied shield of wings, pointing in all directions, katana drawn at Ryukyu’s throat.
“Where is he?!” you screamed bloody murder. Ryukyu could only gulp and stare at your crimson covered form, one eye having a completely black sclera with what seemed to be pulsing red veins in it. “Answer me one damn time and i'll think about not killing every civilian on my way to him! NOW! WHERE IS HE?!” you screamed with pure boiling rage. “W-who?!” a standby officer meekly questioned. “Overhaul! And if you so much as tell me he's dead, I won't hesitate to rip your face off bitch!” “He has been taken away! He’s being transported to the prison now!” Ryukyu screahed as you plunged a sharp blood feather into her abdomen. “Aww, thank you! I'll be on my way now!” and with those final words, you could only do one thing, get your lover back!
You sped through the streets, propelling yourself forward with your heavy wings. You followed the one road you knew they would be taking, moving faster by the second, you came to pass your first car, a white truck, similar to one for moving or hauling big things.
Not paying much attention to the truck, you continued using bursts of blood from your wings to push yourself, ‘I see him! Thats a police van!’ you though, seeing as there was a black van with emergency lights on it, it could only mean one thing, “KAI!!!!” you screeched. Maybe if he could just hear you were close he would be able to break out.
That's when you noticed it, the truck from earlier was in hot pursuit and in front of the police van in no time. The doors swung open to reveal none other than the hand man you had been accustomed to seeing during recent meetings as well as two unfamiliar ones who you supposed were also with the league.
Bringing out his hand, a man with scars all over him had lit something blue, ‘FIRE!’ you thought, hurriedly moving out of the way, trying to prevent yourself from getting burns in any way.
Within a blink of an eye the front of the police van was melted and destroyed. As the van came to a screeching halt, you quickly made your way over to the van and ripped open the doors with brute strength.
That's when you saw him, alive in the flesh, “KAI!!!!” you screamed while dragging him into the street to get him away from the flames. “Y-Y/N” he stated.
“I'm so g-”  you were cut off, “well, isn't it nice to see you again... Y/N” Shigaraki stated, a fake cheery tone lacing his voice “what do you want with him handsy” venom lacing yours.
“Feisty today are we! I'm just here for what our contract consisted of. And last time I checked, Kai here didn't finish up on his side!” he spoke with hysteria. “Now! I think we’ll be taking these with us” he said, holding up the quirk bullets “oh~ and don't think we didn't see you use your quirk earlier! We have eyes everywhere~ So… on that note, we think you would just be a great addition to the league~” your eyes widened, “W-wha-” without time to think, everything went black, you were no longer conscious as the man with the flames had been quick to knock you out.
“Aww, they are so much more calm when they are sleeping, don't you think, Kai~”, “Y/N!!!” Kai shouted, only being able to watch you get dragged into the truck they had been in before. “What are you going to do with her you asshole!” he screamed. “Oh Overhaul, you'll just have to find out yourself, won't you” he chuckled menacingly. And with those words, events played on, ending events with Kai’s losses, his arms and his lover.
“Oh Y/N~ how naive of you to assume that we haven't been watching you for some time now!”
I probably wont be able to post a part 3 until i see the new episode on Saturday TwT

Anime i’ve Watched
That begin with a K (Part 5)!
Yep this is how i’m going to bring over all the anime and manga i’ve watched and posted about on the old blog. It’s not so detailed but it will have to do. Anything new I watch or read from this point on will have their own posts.
Kuroko no Basket:
Genres: comedy, school, shounen, sports
Tumblr media
Synopsis: Teikou Junior High School's basketball team is crowned champion three years in a row thanks to five outstanding players who, with their breathtaking and unique skills, leave opponents in despair and fans in admiration. However, after graduating, these teammates, known as "The Generation of Miracles", go their separate ways and now consider each other as rivals. At Seirin High School, two newly recruited freshmen prove that they are not ordinary basketball players: Taiga Kagami, a promising player returning from the US, and Tetsuya Kuroko, a seemingly ordinary student whose lack of presence allows him to move around unnoticed. Although Kuroko is neither athletic nor able to score any points, he was a member of Teikou's basketball team, where he played as the "Phantom Sixth Man," who easily passed the ball and assisted his teammates. Kuroko no Basket follows the journey of Seirin's players as they attempt to become the best Japanese high school team by winning the Interhigh Championship. To reach their goal, they have to cross pathways with several powerful teams, some of which have one of the five players with godlike abilities, whom Kuroko and Taiga make a pact to defeat. [Written by MAL Rewrite]
Tumblr media
My Rating: 8/10
Finished airing in 2012 with a total of 25 episodes.
My Thoughts: Sports! But not as much friendship, character development and fluffiness as I personally prefer. Plus some of the characters have special abilities or powers taking this firmly out of the realistic category. Not a bad series overall though! Certainly enjoyable.
Kuroko no Basket 2nd Season:
Genres: comedy, sports, school, shounen
Tumblr media
Synopsis:  With the Interhigh Championship finally over, Seirin's basketball team refocuses their efforts, training harder than ever to get the chance to participate in the Winter Cup. Both Kuroko and Kagami see old friends walk back into their lives, providing a challenge both on and off the court. As new skills are developed and new alliances created, enemies from various teams—giants of high school basketball such as Yousen, Shuutoku and Touou—stand in the way of Seirin's steadfast attempts to get to the top. All of these schools prove to be formidable foes whose abilities progress exponentially, while Kuroko struggles to find a balance between his resolve to play as part of a team and his desire to win. With old wounds reopening, new challenges to face on the court, and a new set of foes—the "Uncrowned Kings"—vowing to defeat the new hopefuls, will Seirin ever be able to achieve their dream of beating the Generation of Miracles? [Written by MAL Rewrite]
Tumblr media
My Rating: 9/10
Finished airing in 2014 with a total of 25 episodes.
My Thoughts: Season 2 was even better than the first though all I said before pretty well stands!
Kuroko no Basket 3rd Season:
Genres: comedy, sports, school, shounen
Tumblr media
Synopsis:  Following their triumph against Yousen High, Seirin's basketball team has reached the semifinals of the Winter Cup along with Kaijou, Rakuzan, and Shuutoku. Each of these teams possesses a member of the Generation of Miracles, and Seirin prepares to face the largest obstacles on their path to winning the Winter Cup. In the final season of Kuroko no Basket, Kuroko goes head-to-head with his old teammates once more as he attempts to show them that individual skill is not the only way to play basketball. His firm belief that his form of basketball, team play, is the right way to play the sport will clash with the talents of a perfect copy and an absolute authority. While Kuroko tries to prove that his basketball is "right," he and the rest of Seirin High ultimately have one goal: to win the Winter Cup and overcome the strength of the Generation of Miracles, who have long dominated the scene of middle and high school basketball. [Written by MAL Rewrite]
Tumblr media
My Rating: 9/10
Finished airing in 2015 with a total of 25 episodes.
My Thoughts: We’ve now reached what was essentially the final boss. You don’t need me to convince you to watch the third season if you’ve  already watched the previous two...
Kuzu no Honkai (Scum’s Wish):
Genres: drama, romance, school, seinen
Tumblr media
Synopsis:  To the outside world, Hanabi Yasuraoka and Mugi Awaya are the perfect couple. But in reality, they just share the same secret pain: they are both in love with other people they cannot be with.
Hanabi has loved her childhood friend and neighbor Narumi Kanai for as long as she can remember, so she is elated to discover that he is her new homeroom teacher. However, Narumi is soon noticed by the music teacher, Akane Minagawa, and a relationship begins to blossom between them, much to Hanabi's dismay.
Mugi was tutored by Akane in middle school, and has been in love with her since then. Through a chance meeting in the hallway, he encounters Hanabi. As these two lonely souls spend more time together, they decide to use each other as a substitute for the one they truly love, sharing physical intimacy with one another in order to stave off their loneliness.
[Written by MAL Rewrite]
Tumblr media
My Rating: 8.5/10
Finished airing in 2017 with a total of 12 episodes.
My Thoughts: This may be an unpopular opinion but I actually really liked this anime. It had some really large issues and moments that made me want to cringe until death took me into her sweet embrace but it was a rather unique story and anime. Plus you know sometimes it’s fun to watch an anime where pretty well everyone is an absolutely awful person. I doubt i’d ever watch it again but it was worth that single watch. Great art and opening though!!
Kyoukou Suiri (In/Spectre):
Genres: mystery, comedy, demons, supernatural, romance, shounen
Tumblr media
Synopsis:  Hidden in plain sight, spirits known as youkai inhabit the world. While most are benign, a certain subset threatens the tenuous peace between youkai and humanity. Ever since she agreed to become their "God of Wisdom," Kotoko Iwanaga has served as a mediator between the two realms, resolving any supernatural problems that come her way. At a local hospital, Kotoko approaches Kurou Sakuragawa, a university student whose long-term relationship ended with an unfortunate breakup. Kotoko harbors feelings for him and suspects that something supernatural lurks within his harmless appearance, so she asks Kurou for his assistance in helping out youkai. Two years later, news of an idol who was accidentally crushed to death by steel beams flooded the press. However, months later, sightings begin to tell of a faceless woman who wields a steel beam. As is the case for any supernatural problem, Kotoko and her partner set out to stop this spirit from wreaking havoc—but this case may prove to be far more sinister and personal than they could have ever thought. [Written by MAL Rewrite]
Tumblr media
My Rating: 7.5/10
My Thoughts: An interesting mystery with rather interesting characters. I personally had quite a few issues with this anime, including but not limited to the pacing, gratuitous (in my opinion) violence and gore at times and just a lack of character development. Despite much of the anime revolving around the female lead just talking I feel as though I hardly know her... or worse yet care whether she lives or dies. That being said this seems to be one of those animes that everyone seems to either love or hate with little middle ground.... maybe you’ll land closer to the love side of things?
Kyoukai no Kanata:
Genres: slice of life, supernatural, fantasy
Tumblr media
Synopsis:  Mirai Kuriyama is the sole survivor of a clan of Spirit World warriors with the power to employ their blood as weapons. As such, Mirai is tasked with hunting down and killing "youmu"—creatures said to be the manifestation of negative human emotions. One day, while deep in thought on the school roof, Mirai comes across Akihito Kanbara, a rare half-breed of youmu in human form. In a panicked state, she plunges her blood saber into him only to realize that he's an immortal being. From then on, the two form an impromptu friendship that revolves around Mirai constantly trying to kill Akihito, in an effort to boost her own wavering confidence as a Spirit World warrior. Eventually, Akihito also manages to convince her to join the Literary Club, which houses two other powerful Spirit World warriors, Hiroomi and Mitsuki Nase. As the group's bond strengthens, however, so does the tenacity of the youmu around them. Their misadventures will soon turn into a fight for survival as the inevitable release of the most powerful youmu, Beyond the Boundary, approaches. [Written by MAL Rewrite]
Tumblr media
My Rating: 7/10
Finished airing in 2013 with a total of 12 episodes.
My Thoughts: One of my favorite female glasses wearers of all time! All the characters are pretty cute actually, thanks in large part to the pretty animation and art. Honestly though i’m struggling to remember much about the plot and story... I recall a bit but not nearly enough to give a proper over view of things.
Kyoukai no Kanata movie 1:
Genres: action, supernatural, fantasy
Tumblr media
Synopsis:  The first part of a two-part movie. The story is a recap of the TV series. Mirai Kuriyama is the sole survivor of a clan of Spirit World warriors with the power to employ their blood as weapons. A film released in 2015
My Thoughts: It’s a recap which I apparently rated higher then the series... if you could see me right now you’d be quick to note the lazy shrugging. I have no idea what’s going on with my rating’s half of the time. Thinking on the series more I know I absolutely adored the characters, especially the main couple.
Kyoukai no Kanata movie 2:
Genres: fantasy, slice of life, supernatural
Tumblr media
Synopsis:  After Akihito Kanbara reunites with Mirai Kuriyama—whom he believed had vanished after defeating Beyond the Boundary—he discovers a heartbreaking fact: Mirai has lost all memory of him, their friends, and her past as a Spirit Warrior. Akihito is utterly devastated, but realizes that she has a unique opportunity. Mirai can finally live the life of a normal girl—where she'll be completely devoid of the supernatural society that both shunned and used her. While it's all for the sake of Mirai's happiness, the price is costly—Akihito and his friends must keep her true origins a secret from her, and as a result avoid befriending her. However, the troubling memories of Mirai's old life gradually begin to resurface, and a mysterious new evil leads a group of shadow-like creatures into the city with the goal of seeking her out. As the situations become dire, Akihito must fight to protect himself, his closest friends, and Mirai—the bespectacled beauty he holds most dear. [Written by MAL Rewrite]

[1] don't leave [15] trembling hands [16] in dreams
Tumblr media
“Wake up, silly,” the illusion whispers, its stolen voice tender and honeyed with affection. He feels a hand brush across his forehead, tracing a crease worn into his brow through long nights of studying and candles melted to stubs. “You can’t stay asleep forever.”
The sky is a rich violet when he awakes, like twilight over the Rhotano, a dark canvas that makes the spectre’s hair glow white like starlight when he looks up at it. It smiles at him — (and for all the time he spent staring at her in the waking world, he doesn’t think he could ever perfectly recreate just how her eyes glowed when she did) — and watches contentedly as he pushes himself up from its lap.
He yawns though there is no need to, and rubs dew from his eyes where there is none. When he pulls himself to sit across from his companion, his tail sweeps petals loose from the crumpled bed of flowers beneath them, a warm crimson in the last dredges of an eternal dusk.
“Good morning,” he tells the ghost. It doesn’t respond, but the way it slowly, deliberately blinks and tilts its head lets him know he was heard. It stares into the distance, to the far edge of their garden, where the flowers blur into nothingness and the dream begins to end. He doesn’t know what it sees, but he follows its gaze anyway, trusting it will tell him if it’s important - and it is.
“It’s time,” it tells him after a heartbeat, violet eyes still trained on the horizon.
His hands curl into the earth, grabbing a handful of crushed forget-me-nots in his palm. He knows he’s pouting, and he knows he has no right to, but— “Must I leave?”
Strands of starlight whip around the mirage’s face as it turns to glower at him. “You already have.” For a moment he sees the girl he left behind in another time, mouthing a broken don’t leave me too as the doors closed on all their possibilities. It looks at him through a veil of lashes, glare softening at what he knows must be guilt writ on his face. Then, it grips at the end of his sleeve and pulls itself up to stand, a train of white silk pooling around its feet.
There are few chances for them to be at eye level with each other, and his breath catches as it steps forward. He knew, when he first fell asleep, that conjuring her image was trouble - but it does nothing to stop how his heart does a calamitous jolt in his chest at the movement.
(The years he spent fixated on Allag feel like nothing, now, compared to how fascinating he finds her.)
The borrowed face of the woman he abandoned sends his pulse skyrocketing, and he wonders if it can hear the way his ears begin to ring as it leans in until their noses are gently touching tip to tip, and when it breathes he can feel a facsimile of her warmth on his lips, and he finds himself closing his eyes and leaning forward too—
“—I thought it’d be easier if it was like this.” It laughs quietly, sinking back onto its heels, abashed and ashamed in equal measure as his eyes flutter open. “Even in a dream, I’m still a coward.” Its hands slip down into his own, though he doesn’t know which of them is trembling until it lets go and he’s left holding only the air in his lungs, which stutters out in shock and rattles him with want.
His mouth is dry but the scolding words make him lunge forward anyway, to grip it by the shoulders as a protest wells onto his tongue. “You are not a coward, you’re—”
“The bravest person you know,” the girl in white interrupts wryly. “And still... neither of us will remember this once we wake up, so I... I should have... Well, this shouldn’t have been possible to begin with.” She reaches out, her small fingers hovering over the crease on his forehead, where her aether singed a physick as they fled from a world of darkness. “But you and I, we’re a pair made for the impossible, aren’t we, Raha?”
Realization knocks G’raha’s heart sideways. “Lunya?” Some Sharlayan scholar he’s turned out to be if he hadn’t noticed the one nearest to his heart was with him all along. “Is this really... how could this... how are you—”
“You’re usually more eloquent than this,” his dearest friend teases, the corners of her eyes wrinkling with fondness and sadness in the fading light of their sanctuary. “Did any of your tomes tell you that in Eorzea, twilight is said to be the time when worlds intersect? When the veil grows thinnest?”
Stars begin to glitter in the corner of his vision as he stands, his head spinning with the revelation and a dozen more questions. His tail coils anxiously around his leg, looking for some semblance of balance as the boundaries of their world begin to blur and the wind picks up, taking with it a shower of petals in a dance.
“Time’s up.” The sigh Lunya exhales is heavy, longing as she looks at the darkening sky and the river of stars that starts to twine across it. “This was a good dream, wasn’t it?”
“Wait!” he says, desperately reaching for her as the earth shakes beneath them, beginning to draw them apart as ink begins to spill across the floor, swallowing him in night. “I know I do not deserve forgiveness but - Lunya, I’m sorry I left you behind, I’m sorry I didn’t say anything—”
“I know!” Lunya calls back, her final smile for him gentle and grateful as her image breaks into motes of light. She is swathed in moonglow, luminous and radiant in their last moments together, and he thinks that even if he did stay around to write her biography he could never describe just how beautiful - how inspirational she is. “I know, Raha! And I— I’m in love with you too—”
As the dream dissolves into nothingness, the last of her aether entangled with his own finally fizzling out as he begins to awake, G’raha allows himself to cry, exhilarated and heartbroken for reasons he can’t remember, all while a worried crowd whispers around him.

a not so comprehensive anime recs list
(a small list of only some of my fave anime series for anon. i could go more into detail or have some more recs if you know what genres you are into. my current obsession might be Given and i dont rememeber ever watching anything else...... but hey let me try... )
hunter x hunter (2011) and fullmetal alchemist brotherhood are my go to recs if you’re okay with longer series. please watch hxh2011... it’s just so good
( these next few are just the ones i have rated the highest not sure if i would rec them for a first time anime tho )
fate zero is just amazing. once you get past first loooong episode it’s a great binge watch with magic, dark themes, great openings/endings, interesting characters and a lot of action
code geass - has it all: politics, plot twists, mind games, one of my fave main characters ever, even some comedy i guess
magi - that’s a great anime, dan was right. at least here!
one outs - technically a sports anime. but it’s more of a psychological, mind game drama kind of thing. i cannot reccomend it enough. the main character is just so cool!!
psycho pass - dystopian future, dark in themes but awesome, one of my personal faves for many reasons
btooom! underrated but great. i don’t remember it too well because i watched the whole thing in one go it was so great i couldn’t stop watching
parasyte/kiseijuu - i read the manga first and then watched the anime and both times i was at the edge of my seat, it’s nerve wrecking but so good oh my go
anime series that made me cry the most: sakamichi no apollon, your lie in april, anohana, angel beats, hibike euphonium (especially second season, i did not expect it to be so good) and now given
fave sports anime: (one outs again), haikyuu!!, yuri on ice, chihayafuru (damn it i love chihayafuru so much and it’s so underrated), kuroko no basket (let’s forget season 3 ok? it was a disaster), yowamushi pedal, diamond no ace
more absolute faves: death note (obvious classic), neon genesis evangelion (another classic), GIN NO SAJI (please watch this, it’s one of the sweetest anime ever),  hellsing ultimate(it’s more on a horror/gore side so be careful), boku dake ga inai machi, puella magi magica madoka, 3-gatsu no lion(my more recent watch, great series), zankyou no terror and tokyo ghoul (both tumblr faves, they are quite good actually), death parade, log horizon (especially season 1!!! sword art online wishes it was as good as log horizon), x (old but gold!!!!), durarara, ao no exorcist, kyoukai no kanata, kyousou giga (again! underrated but great), kekkai sensen, hataraku maou-sama(one of the funniest anime i’ve ever watched), noragami, ajin, amanchu!!(lesbian and heartwarming!!!!), one punch man (season 2 is so much better than the first one. i did not expect that), one piece(no one got enough time to watch everything but it’s really close to my heart forever), nana, k-on, no.6 (but the light novel is so much better than anime adaptation), d.gray-man (i prefer manga version tbh but it’s still very good), uchouten kazoku, soul eater

To KyoAni
Tumblr media
Recommended Soundtrack
The first Kyoto Animation production I watched was Kyoukai no Kanata.
Tumblr media
It was my first year in college, I had stopped watching anime for a little bit. I didn’t really even get anime yet, if you know what I mean. I had watched SAO, FMA:B, bits and pieces of Naruto, Bleach, One Piece, you know, nothing out of the ordinary. My best friend at the time was getting into that season’s shows and one of them was Kyoukai no Kanata. I remember thinking it was perfect for me:  an action story with a half/half kind of world. I loved Percy Jackson kind of set ups. I remember loving the characters: a boy who felt alone falling in love with a girl who felt alone. I remember the tingles when the OP started playing in the last episode. It was my first foray into seasonal anime. I loved it. The ED is still my favorite ED to this day.
Recommended Soundtrack
I watched K-on on bus rides between my school and home.
Tumblr media
The rides were 3 hours long, or, 6 episodes long. I’d do one every month or less. And of course I had to go back the next day. I still didn’t really get anime, other than understanding it was the best way for me to convince myself that it’s ok for an 18 year old to watch cartoons. I remember thinking it was perfect for me: a story about being a band. I played guitar and I loved to sing. I remember loving the characters—Mio is best by the way. I remember never skipping the OP or ED, in either season. It was when I decided Slice of Life was my favorite. I loved it.
Recommended Soundtrack
Hyouka was how I got over my break up.
Tumblr media
It was just my second relationship, and I was (and maybe still am) fragile. I remember skipping days of class because I just didn’t feel like it. I called my dad once, sitting outside the classroom overwhelmed at the prospect of being forced into a tight desk and take notes on well designs, and he told me to go home and do something I liked. So I finally opened that anime I had downloaded. I remember thinking it was perfect for me: a story about growing up and understanding girls. Maybe. I guess? I didn’t really get it. But that’s ok, I got it enough. I remember loving the characters: a boy who didn’t feel like trying any harder than he needed. Yea. That’s me right now. I remember learning that I loved to cook while watching the show. It was just relaxing enough for me to do other tasks. I made some really bad Yakisoba while watching it. But it tasted like home and not her mom’s cooking. I loved it.
Recommended Soundtrack
Every wednesday I got home from class and immediately watched the most recent episode of Hibike! Euphonium.
Tumblr media
This was it. This was my show. I get it. I really did. I remember thinking it was perfect for me: I played Euphonium. I was in band. This show was basically made for me.Is this how it feels to relate to a character? Is this how it feels to understand why they’re doing what they’re doing? I finally got it! I remember loving the characters: a girl with fluffy hair learning from a girl much better than her but somehow indifferent to everything else in band other than how to get better. I was the girl in fluffy hair. I had a band mate who was the other. I hope he’s doing well in professional marching band. Every Wednesday without fail I would arrive from school, and frantically refresh Crunchyroll. I’d hook it up to the TV. Sorry Andrew, it was Euphonium time. I loved it.
I can keep going.
Tumblr media
I watched Amagi Brilliant Park between learning how to mix spices for Chili. I remember being annoyed at how loud the OP was, but loving that every character was a hip hop reference. It was the first time I got a real taste of a show that built itself on ecchi.
I can keep going.
Tumblr media
I watched Tamako Love Story immediately after watching Tamako Market. I remember thinking that Tamako Market was just kind of bad K-on, but then the movie made it all worth it. It was wonderful and full of life. It felt like High school. I was home again.
I can keep going.
Tumblr media
Dragon Maid taught me that a family can be a programmer, a dragon maid, and a lost dragon. it taught me that being old doesn’t mean being alone. I taught me that opening up isn’t always a bad thing.
I can keep going.
Tumblr media
Phantom world was the first KyoAni show I immediately recognized as not good, and you know what? I still finished it. It was fun to make fun of after watching the episode with my roommates. But I could never make fun of how little KyoAni tried.
I can keep going.
Tumblr media
I watched A Silent Voice in theaters. I left feeling so many emotions I didn’t even know what to say. Did you know that Makoto Shinkai said that he would have liked to copy it’s direction style but you simply can’t?
Tumblr media
Hibike Euphonium S2 was when I started writing about anime seriously. I think I finally got it. And the Asuka arc brought me to tears.
Tumblr media
I literally waited 4 years for Violet Evergarden to come out. I was so excited. I learned about how KyoAni picked their adaptation works and found out immediately that Violet Evergarden was the first entry to ever really win. It must be great. And it was. The animation quality was better than anime movies. And this was a tv show! My tablet GPU couldn’t even play the episodes. I had to watch it on my computer or my phone. And episode 10′s closing scene still brings me to tears.
Tumblr media
I flew to DC to watch Liz and the Blue Bird with my friends. I couldn’t stop talking about it. I spent hours just analyzing the opening 5 minute scene of Nozomi and Mizore walking to the club room. It was a masterpiece. An art form. “This was it. This is what anime is capable of.” I thought to myself on the regular.
It still is.
Tumblr media
I just watched the Hibike Euphonium movie last thursday.
Last thursday.
I marathoned the entire series right before watching it. Kyoto Animation deserved that much at least. It wasn’t as good as I was hoping, but I can’t say anything about the care put into it. Not a moment of the movie did I think “they didn’t try their best here.”
Tumblr media
Do I even need to talk about this one?
Thank You Kyoto Animation. For teaching me things about the world and about myself. For cheering me up when I was down. For never not doing your best. Thank you to anyone who helped. Thank you to the people who stock the shelves of the Kyoto Animation Store. Thank you to the people who draw inbetween animation. Thank you to the people who make Kyoto Animation work every day.
Thank you for making shows that make me feel like I’m part of your family.

Mismatch Chapter 2
Pairing: HiroAki
Fandom: Kyoukai no Kanata
Part 1 |  Ao3
“Akkey, the pain still won’t go away.”
Akkey covered Hiroomi’s wound with his cupped hands. It hovered a little bit above the scraped flesh. As if summoning every power inside of him, Akihito made a whisking action to make the pain go away.
“Pain, pain go away!” He almost screamed.
“Are you sure this will work?”
“It will!”
When Hiroomi still looked pained, Akihito dragged him inside the house. They went inside Hiroomi’s room and sat on the bed. Akihito thought it would be better to be inside in order to throw the pain away. He cupped Hiroomi’s knees again and then made a whisking action.
“Pain, pain go away!”
“What now Akkey? It still hurts.”
Giving up after a lot of tries, Akihito lay down on the bed, arms spread and face looking up at the ceiling. He thought purposely, then turned to Hiroomi’s side and smiled brightly. Hiroomi sighed and lay down beside him.
“Here let me hold your hand until the pain goes away!”
Without waiting for an answer, Akihito twined their fingers together. It made Hiroomi fluster. Even though it was embarassing, he still held Akkey’s hand tightly.
Silence settled between the two. It made the sound of Akkey’s breathing too loud in Hiroomi’s ears. It made Hiroomi think about Akkey’s predicament, being half-human half youmo, and the fact that many didn’t want him to exist.
“Akkey. I’ll protect you. We’ll be together forever wouldn’t we?”
“Mm.”
Akihito held Hiroomi’s hand tightly in assent. After a while, both fell asleep holding each other’s hand.
—-
Hiroomi woke up exhausted. He didn’t know why of all things, he dreamt of the past again. Shrugging these thoughts off, he prepared for school and decided that he would attend club activities. He didn’t really have that much things to do, and it’s not like he has friends to hang out with after school either. Attending club activities after being absent for a long time would be a change of pace for him.
Sauntering towards their club room, Hiroomi observed that it was rather lively. He opened the door and was surprised to see someone unfamiliar.
“Oh Hiroomi!” Akihito greeted him nonchalantly. Hiroomi flitted his eyes towards the girl and stared at her closely.
“A new recruit?”
“Yes, she’s a transferee. It looks like she’s also a spirit world warrior.”
“Eh? Isn’t that nice! And she’s so your type Akkey. Glasses and all. Ah! She also has the little sister vibe. Lucky!”
Mitsuki made a face.
“Gross,”
“Mitsuki!!!” While Hiroomi was about to attempt to embrace his sister, he caught a glimpse of a two shiny things coming from Akkey and Mirai’s palm, as if both of them were holding a packet of light. Hiroomi turned to it; eyes wide with surprise. Mitsuki noticed the change in his behavior.
“Nii-san, this is..”
“Soulmates huh? Good for them then,”
Mitsuki could see pain in her brother’s face even though he was smiling.
“Akkey, you didn’t tell me you already found your soulmate! That is unfair.” Hiroomi whined.
Akihito frooze.
“You look so cute together! It’s like a dream come true Akkey. Who would have thought you’d actually get a cute girl in glasses as your soulmate!” Hiroomi patted Akihito hard on the shoulder.
“Lucky you!”
Akihito smiled painfully.
“Hiroomi..”
“Ah, it’s getting hot in here. Be right back, I’ll go get us all some refreshment!”
Hiroomi went outside in a rush, leaving Mirai and everyone else in the room quite surprised. Mirai noticed the sudden change in the mood.
“What’s wrong senpai?”
Mitsuki stole glances at Akihito. She sighed.
“Akihito, why don’t you go help nii-san buy refreshments? We need to decide which stories to include in the anthology, make sure that wasn’t an excuse to escape club activities.”
“Okay.”
—-
Akihito searched for Hiroomi at the nearest vending machine but he didn’t find him. He went to look for him near the gym and finally found him carrying their drinks. There were a lot so he ran towards him.
“Here let me carry some of it. Why did you buy a lot? There are only four of us in the clubroom you idiot!”
“Ah yes, I forgot.”
“What’s wrong Hiroomi?”
“Nothing. I’m just quite surprised.”
“I know. It surprised me too. The person who’s supposed to be my soulmate just tried to kill me. Isn’t that funny?”
“She tried to kill you?” Hiroomi burst out laughing.
“Why would she? That’s quite mental.”
“I know right? It is.”
Akihito stared at Hiroomi as they walked. It was as if he wanted to say something that he couldn’t say. He looked so troubled that Hiroomi wondered why he made such a face.
“What is it Akkey? Why are you staring at me like that?”
“Nothing. Nothing.”
They went back to the clubroom in silence.
——
“I saw Hiroomi-senpai with some first year boy.” Mirai said nervously while they were at the club room.
“What?” Mitsuki replied, her eyes narrowing in diression.
“Is he bullying someone?”
“No. NO.. The air between the two’s like.. It’s unpleasant.” Mirai imagined pink fluffy things hovering around Hiroomi and the first year student and made a disgusted face.
Akihito, who was sitting at the corner of the room, pretended that he was engrossed in the book he was reading.
“I always thought Hiroomi-senpai was into…”
Mirai stole a glance at Akkey. Mitsuki frowned, noticing Mirai’s glance.
“That idiot Onii-san. He’s just playing around probably. Maybe he’s extorting that first year.”
Unable to take the others’ conversation, Akkey excused himself and went out of the room.
---
The afternoon sun was about to set when Akihito went out. He was walking in the hallway thinking about what Mirai said.
Hiroomi with a first year? Well He is popular.
Akkey’s eyes drifted towards the window. There he saw Hiroomi chatting with a boy. It made him curious why Hiroomi was serious as he was talking to the person. Before he knew it, he rushed just to follow the two.
“Please go out with me Senpai.”
Akihito hid near a bush, trying hard to cover himself up so that he won’t be caught eavesdropping. When he heard what the first year student said, he was shocked.
“Eeeeh? So you like me.”
“Yes, I like you very much senpai.”
“You won’t get anything from me though. I don’t like you. Nor am I interested in going with uncool dates with someone younger than me. And a guy at that.”
“I’ll try my best. So please, if you’d like, please try going out with me.”
Akihito wanted to see what face Hiroomi made, but he couldn’t move.
“Ma, alright~
The response surprised Akkey. Dumbfounded, he poked his head out to see what happened to the two to be quiet all of a sudden. Then he saw Hiroomi pull the first year by the lapel to kiss him on the mouth.
Akihito’s eyes grew wide. He felt something sting in his chest at the sight that he saw.
Inside the clubroom, everyone was busy reading through early editions of their anthology. Mirai was distracted. She thought about what she saw. Unable to stop herself, she finally had the courage to say something.
“Hiroomi-senpai! I… I saw you with a first year student earlier today.” Mirai stuttered, adjusting her glasses, all stiff and lovably awkward.
Hiroomi just stared at her dumbfounded. He never knew that this could be a hot topic to the others.
“Why don’t you invite him over to our club room niisan?” Mitsuki said, testing her brother; testing Akihito who looked troubled. Haughty, she was expecting Akkey to pick up what she was trying to say.
“Nah, I don’t wanna~”
Hiroomi pouted. He glanced at Akkey who was beside him, silent. He edged closer to him and elbowed him on the side.
“What’s wrong Akkey? Why do you look like you just ate something bitter?”
Akihito didn’t feel like retorting something.
Mitsuki and Mirai looked at the two as they talked. Somehow, it looked like they had a world on their own. It made Mirai feel like an outsider. She bit her lip and bowed her head. Mitsuki, noticing the change in Mirai, tried to talk to her about random things.
—-
Akihito lay in bed unable to sleep.
He stared at the ceiling to figure things out. It was the only thing he could do. Whenever he closed his eyes, he would see the kiss again. It made his heart ache. What did it mean?
Why hurt in the first place? It was bothersome.
There was a sound that came from his window. He sighed, stood up, and went to it to check. Opening the window, he saw Hiroomi outside wrapped up in his indoor clothes—just a jacket and jogging pants with a scarf around his neck to keep him from the cold—enthusiastically waving up at him. For some reason, seeing him made Akihito feel quite happy. It felt like the questions that had been bugging him didn’t matter; that the answer to them was just simple. And it was Hiroomi coming to him like this. It was them finally fixing their relationship. He hid a smile, and went downstairs to welcome Hiroomi. It was hard holding himself back from rushing to the raven haired boy.
“Why are you here again?”
“I ran away from home.” Hiroomi said as he was taking off his jacket, as though running away from home was something normal.
“What?!”
“I was just kidding, silly.”
“You sure it’s alright to take off your jacket? Aren’t you cold?”
“Nah, you’re here. I won’t get cold.” Hiroomi winked and flashed a playful smile.
“Oh, I bought food. Stop eating omurice.”
That made Akihito smile. It was just like they went back to how they were before. Before he hurt Hiroomi.
Pleased, Akihito gazed at Hiroomi. He stared at him like a love struck fool as the other hanged his jacket and put away his shoes on the shoe rack.
---
The clinking sound of the utensils was the only thing that made noise. Both were quietly eating the food that Hiroomi brought. He brought take out ramen. The smell of the ramen wafted in the air making Akihito feel like he was in heaven. The taste of the warm broth in his mouth and the noodle pleased his stomach. He ate heartily. He didn’t notice Hiroomi stealing glances at him. The raven-haired boy was flustered and happy at his enthusiasm.
“Akkey~ slow down or else you're gonna choke you know.”
Akihito pouted and mumbled something. Hiroomi smiled at him as he sipped on his ramen. His stomach clenched at the thought that both of them were alone in this moment together. He clenched his toes and concentrated on his food. It had been so long since they were together like this. It’s been a long time since they were alone. Friends. Happy.
If it was possible, he didn’t want this to end.
---
Akihito just finished using the bath. They were about to go to sleep. He was nervous. Maybe being with someone you hold dear felt this awkward and exciting. Maybe he was excited because finally he was able to have a normal conversation with Hiroomi. They were finally able to talk like how they used to, or at least like how they used to. Everything just forced him to think of the past and how it all changed and got mended.
When they were young, he often slept with Hiroomi like this. Thinking of it always made Akihito smile. He closed his eyes and listened to the sound of rushing water. The sound was a reminder that Hiroomi was going to spend the night at his house. They were going to be alone together for the first time in a long time. Even though he was happy, it made him feel conflicted. His thoughts settled on Mirai and the soulmarks. He thought about how sometimes destiny made things more complicated rather than easier. If the effect of the soulmarks are a physical thing, can it be escaped? Were they bound to follow it just because fate dictated it?
Thinking of such things, he fell asleep.
----
Hiroomi felt quite excited like a high school girl staying at his boyfriend’s house for the first time. In the past, it was always Akihito spending the night in Hiroomi’s room, not the other way around. He stared at Akkey’s bath and thought that it was just plain and ordinary. It was the typical bath for an apartment. Since he didn’t bring a towel with him, Akihito let him borrow a towel. When he was done bathing, rather than wipe himself, instead, he buried his face on the towel and inhaled its scent.
It was a nostalgic smell. Hiroomi crumpled the towel in his hands and breathed the scent in. Again and again. He chanted sorry in his head as he continued to smell the towel.
Remembering the first year kid, he wondered whether Akkey knew about their relationship, and if he did, what did he thought? Thinking made Hiroomi nervous so he decided to get a hold of himself and went out of the bath.
A sleeping Akihito greeted Hiroomi when he entered the room. He almost giggled at the sight. Hiroomi had forgotten how Akihito looked when he slept. Seeing him fast asleep, mouth parted a bit, he blushed as he stared. Hiroomi tiptoed and crouched at the foot of the bed and gazed at Akkey’s sleeping face. He leaned in, crossed his arms on the bed and perched his head on his arms. Gazing at Akkey’s sleeping face was a treat. It made him want to say the things he really wanted to say to him because he wouldn’t be able to hear them after all. Confessing to a person who is asleep maybe be liberating. At least you’ve said what you wanted to say, but it is not liberation in its true sense. It is not confronting what one really feels, rather, it is no different from running away.
There is fear in a feeling such as this. Hiroomi knew this very well. He wasn’t experienced with relationships and love. Falling in love with someone of the same sex is not really something he thought seriously about. Because to him, the gender didn’t matter. The truth was, he was just afraid of falling in love with his friend. And so, he is stuck in this hesitation.
“Akkey.” Hiroomi whispered as he gazed at Akkey’s face.
When he realized he had feelings for Akihito, he stopped staring at him, afraid that he would know that he had so much power over him. Now, he was free to look as much as he could. There was no fear of being judged. There was no fear of being rejected. There was no guilt whatsoever.
It’s just him faced with his feelings.
More than four hundred days of not talking made him quite sad. He didn’t want to admit to himself that he had always enjoyed Akihito’s company. He didn’t want to admit to himself that it hurt him when he knew he and Akkey didn’t match; that they were not soulmates; that they were not for each other.
He tried to hold back whatever he felt ever since his soulmark appeared. Yes, he was excited for the possibility that they would match. He looked forward to the time when they meet again and their soulmarks would glow as they recognize that indeed they were meant to be. That’s why when he knew they didn’t match, he was disappointed, frustrated. When you have been expecting something so much, the pain caused by its frustration is a physical torment. Hiroomi did not yet accept this fact. But he has too or he will never be happy again. He thought of a lot of things to move on. But it only got him to where he started--being with Akihito, longing for him no matter how lost a cause it is. Being close to Akihito like this made his longing stronger. The emotions he bottled up inside just spilled out. It drove him to rise from where he sat and kiss Akkey on the mouth.
Kissing Akihito was unlike kissing the first year student he went out with. When he kissed the other, he wasn’t as nervous as he was with Akkey. He didn’t feel this hotness in his body. There was no weakness in the legs and breathlessness.
So this was how it felt to finally kiss the one you truly love.
Akihito’s lips were soft against his own. It was warm and it made Hiroomi feel like he was in heaven. When he withdrew he was shy. He wanted to touch him more. He wanted to be touched and be kissed deeply just like the kiss that he shared with the first year boy. Feeling embarrassed, Hiroomi creased his eyebrows and woke Akihito up so that he could sleep properly.
Half-asleep, Akihito sat up in bed, yawned, and rubbed his eyes. He was about to stand up and sleep on the sofa. Hiroomi, eyes wide pulled him and pushed him down on the bed.
“Idiot just sleep here. You’re too sleepy to function.”
Akihito’s sight was blurry. He didn’t see Hiroomi’s flustered face clearly. When his vision cleared, and his mind sobered, he was surprised. He rose and bumped his head against Hiroomi’s. Hiroomi curled up, and cried from the pain.
“Idiot! It hurts.”
“I’m sorry! I didn’t mean it Hiroomi.”
Akihito went to get something to put on Hiroomi’s forehead.
—-
“Does it still hurt?”
“Of course you idiot! Why’d you have to do that, stupid. Now I can’t go to school with this face.”
“Stop whining, and who told you to be on top of me?”
At that Hiroomi blushed even redder. Feeling embarrassed, the two went silent. Unable to take the silence, Akihito sighed. He lied down beside Hiroomi and stared at the ceiling. Their hands were close on the bed. Akihito felt their closeness. It made him feel nervous and afraid of what this could mean. Of what his feelings could mean.
Hiroomi on the other hand, was breathless beside him. He didn’t know what to do. He didn’t know what to say to him. All he knew was Akkey was too close for comfort. Akkey was a warm body next to him, and he was cold. He closed his eyes and scooted closer to Akkey. Hiroomi can never resist Akkey’s warmth. He wrapped his arm around Akkey’s arm and leaned on his shoulders.
Akihito turned his head to the side.
“You’re so warm Akkey.” Hiroomi melted.
“So very warm.”
They both looked like lovers spending their last night together. This part was the part where Akihito would pull away from Hiroomi. Hiroomi waited for the rejection, but it never came. Akkey leaned in, turned to his side and scooted closer to him. He pulled the blankets and tucked the two of them together. And just like that they both fell asleep holding each other.
----
The night they spent together felt distant, so remote, like a dream. Beautiful things don’t last, as do things that make one happy. Happiness is a constant search. Akihito knew this well. As he stared into the distance, with book in hand, he realized that maybe he should give up. The universe has spoken. What is not meant to be will never be meant to be.
Mitsuki noticed that Akihito’s thoughts drifted far away.
The two were alone in the club room. Mirai had something to do, so it was just the two of them. The fact that Hiroomi and Akihito cared for each had always been on Mitsuki’s mind. Today too, she thought of it. She thought that maybe sometimes love is not enough to bring two people together. But she could still try.
“That guy nii-san is seeing is not his soulmate.” She blurted out.
Akihito was surprised.
“Why are you telling me this?”
Embarrassed, Mitsuki couldn't help but feel stupid. Akihito had no idea that she always thought about this. Acting like her efforts were irrelevant hurt. She clenched her fists and bit her lip. She wished that Akkey wouldn’t hear how loudly her heart was beating inside her chest.
She knew all to well the pain of loving someone who doesn’t love you back and the happiness of the slight possibility of an “us”.
If things were different would he still feel the same? Mitsuki wondered about Akihito’s feelings.
“Akihito..”
“What will you do if ...”
“What?”
“What if we didn’t have this soul mark thing? Would you..” Her voice came out desperate.
“Silly. Why are you asking me things like this? This is so unlike you.”
“It’s not like I’m interested in whatever you’re gonna say, so..” Mitsuki retorted defensively; trying to find a way out from showing how she felt.
Akkey responded with a sad smile.
Angry, Mitsuki continued,
“What if this is just to make sure we each have pairs? What if this does not really mean we have to be with our soulmates?”
When Akihito only smiled at her awkwardly, as if he was saying, “It wouldn’t matter” she grimaced.
“Akihito,.. You are an idiot.”
And just like that, she left.
---
Hiroomi lied on his bed. Panels of light cut through his window, dapling on his figure. He turned to his side and saw that there was no one beside him. There was no Akihito. It reminded him that it had been weeks since the night they spent with each other. Now his feelings for him only got worse. And he didn’t have any idea what to do. He didn’t try to see Akihito, fearing that he won’t be able to keep his heart from being so loud when they meet. To keep thoughts of Akkey away, he was busying himself learning things about his boyfriend. He learned that he liked being in control. Every time they kissed it was always a prelude to love making.
The first time Hiroomi had sex, he thought that his heart was going to explode. He never thought it was like that: the union of the bodies and the union of the souls. Yet, Everytime he kissed the boy, he would imagine that it was Akkey who was kissing him. Everytime they do it, he would fantasize that it was Akihito that held him.
As time went by, Hiroomi realized that It was difficult being with someone who you don’t love. And so, he ended his relationship with the boy, thinking that it was for the best.
----
Akihito overdid himself.
Hiroomi had to stop him again from going berserk. He had to force himself to be cold hearted as he subdued him. Mirai freaked out as Akihito turned into a monster right before her very eyes. She blamed herself for what happened. She thought it was her fault that Akihito turned into a monster.
----
The first thing Akihito felt when he regained consciousness was body pain. He groaned, sat up in bed and looked at his hands. What happened before everything went black all came back to him.
He creased his eyebrows and slumped back on the bed. Hearing the sound of footsteps getting close to his room, he didn’t want to think about who it was. The pattering made him nervous. To fend off his anxiety, he turned his back, pulled his blanket and wrapped his whole body with it. He was afraid to know about the consequences of his actions.
A click on the door made his thoughts disappear.
“What’s wrong?”
The voice was Hiroomi’s. Instead of replying, he bit his lip. He curled up. Hiroomi quirked his eyebrows, sauntered towards the bed and sat near Akihito’s side. Hiroomi wanted to touch him, but he stopped himself from doing so. He knew the blond was hurting. He partly blamed himself for not being able to protect him.
Hiroomi didn't like it when Akkey hurt.
“Why the long face? It’s such a wonderful night for a festival isn’t it? Come let’s go.”
“I don’t wanna.”
“Akkey~ stop feeling sorry for yourself and let’s just enjoy the night shall we? I bought you some clothes.”
“I don’t want to go Hiroomi. If you want, you can go by yourself.”
“Nah, it won’t be the same without you. Let’s go? There’ll be fireworks and stuff.
“If you don’t go, then I won’t go and you’ll suffer trying to keep me company.” Hiroomi slumped on the bed, slipped his hands on Akkey’s waists and moaned.
“Ah, so warm. Akkey~ you’re a treasure!”
Akihito realized that it was better to appease Hiroomi than be stuck with him. And so, he agreed to go with him to the festival. They saw Mitsuki and Mirai there.
He paused. It felt like he just saw something heavenly. Mirai wore a cute yukata. Her hair was styled with a braid. Seeing her made Akkey’s heart skip a beat. Their soulmarks glowed as Akihito tried to stop Hiroomi from wiggling his hands on his waist. Relief enveloped his heart just gazing at her. She was cute, innocent, and looked good in glasses. He was thankful that despite his flaws he still had someone that was meant for him in this world. Akihito smiled and went to Mirai, leaving Hiroomi.
Hiroomi just stared at both of them pretending he wasn’t bothered by Akkey’s leaving.
----
The night sky was beautiful with all the stars spread out in its expanse. Mirai and Akihito were standing alone together gazing at it as the light from the lanterns dappled on them. Akkey felt awkward. He thought about what happened. He thought about what Mirai might think about him going berserk; about her finally finding out what he truly was--a monster. Akkey clenched his hands into fists. It always made him feel like all he brings to those around him is just pain and suffering. All he brings them are sadness and danger.
“Senpai?” Mirai asked, noticing how troubled he was.
Akkey only smiled awkwardly.
“I’m sorry earlier. You didn't have to see that.”
“It's fine senpai.”
What happened made Mirai realized why Akkey couldn't leave her alone. They were alike. And that made her feel closer to him. She felt calm beside Akihito. For the first time, she felt like there was some place where she belonged, and that there was someone who truly cared for her. They watched the lanterns together and waited for the fireworks display when Mirai remembered something.
“Senpai, excuse me. I need to go somewhere.” She didn't actually want to leave. But it couldn't be helped. She bid him goodbye wryly. Akkey smiled at her and waved goodbye.
Being alone never bothered Akkey. Instead of lamenting about how he’s alone, he went to find a spot where he could watch the fireworks by himself. When he finally found a spot near a block of stone, he sat on the bench and waited. Mitsuki saw him. Blushing, she was about to approach him when she saw her brother standing far away, looking hesitant to approach Akkey. She looked down at her feet, quirked her eyebrows in frustration. She bit her lip, clenched her hands, and then turned around.
She understood even if it hurts.
“Why are you alone?” Hiroomi asked Akihito, surprised that he wasn’t with Mirai.
“She went to see someone. She told me it was important.”
Hiroomi sat beside Akihito.
“Really? The fireworks display is going to start.”
“Yeah. It can’t be helped though.”
“Ne Akkey,”
“What?”
Hiroomi gazed into Akihito’s face dappled by yellow light from the lanterns. Akkey turned to him, and gazed into his eyes. It surprised him so he looked away and scooted away from Akihito. He needed to put some distance between the two of them. It was for his own good.
In response to Hiroomi’s odd behavior, Akihito moved closer. One of Akihito’s quirks was sometimes he wasn’t aware of his surroundings. He wasn’t aware that Hiroomi was nervous around him. As their hands brushed, Hiroomi trembled. Anticipating something more to the touch, Hiroomi wanted to lean on his shoulder, but when he saw Akihito’s sad expression, softness spread in his heart. He pulled him in and allowed him to lean on his shoulder instead.
“I am your senpai, stop making strange facial expressions! You can tell me whatever you want. Even your love problems. I’ll listen to it all Akkey~” Hiroomi said pleased with himself when actually he was very nervous that his fingers held little earthquakes at their tips.
Hiroomi knew Akihito felt guilty about what happened.
“It’s not your fault Akkey.”
“What if I hurt someone again?
“I don’t want to hurt anyone again.”
“It’s fine. You did it to save her.”
“But..”
“You know I’ll always have your back, so don’t worry! I told you I would be the best spirit world warrior for you.” Hiroomi smiled playfully.
“Hiroomi…” Akkey held his hand affectionately for the first time in years. Hiroomi was surprised that he almost slapped his hand away. He couldn’t move. When Akkey raised his head to him, it felt like an arrow just shot right through his heart.
“Thank you.”
Akkey squeezed his hand. He squeezed it like he didn’t want to let go; that he was glad Hiroomi was there for him. Hiroomi smiled knowing that nothing was behind the touch, merely gratitude. Hiroomi squeezed his hand back. It felt like they returned to the past. It felt like they were kids again, alone together holding each other’s hand.
---
When Akkey held Hiroomi’s hand, nostalgia gave him a surge of emotions. He was reminded that after everything, he still wanted Hiroomi to be his soulmate. After everything he still wanted them to be together. He knew that he was with someone now. The jealousy he tried so hard to stop, and the love he tried to hard to forget all came rushing back to him.
He gazed at him. As the breeze brushed his skin, he wanted so much to embrace Hiroomi.  He wanted to say something to Hiroomi. He wanted to tell him, “Do you still want to be with me?” but rather say anything, without thinking, he leaned in.
Both didn’t hear the wail of the firecracker from a distance. They didn’t hear the burst nor see the fireworks bloom in the night sky. They were only conscious of the warm thing on their mouths.
—-
Akihito never kissed anyone in his entire life. He didn’t know that sometimes, there is an urge to just kiss someone. When he looked at Hiroomi and felt everything all at once, his body acted on its own.
He kissed him.
As he sloshed his lips against Hiroomi’s, he felt as if he was blazing from the inside. It was a new sensation to him.
It made him think that maybe there is a heaven in someone’s mouth.
----
Hiroomi was too shaken to move because of the kiss. Akkey left him wide eyed and unable to breathe. The kiss was abrupt, just like the kiss that he stole when Akkey was asleep. It had a tenderness to it, like a goodbye kiss, as if Akkey was saying sorry to him. When Akkey withdrew, he wanted to hold him, pull him again to kiss him once more. What was a kiss when it was not long enough to make the person realize what you really feel?
He felt like he was about to cry. At the moment their lips meet everything just settled in its place and there was room for two mismatched people in love. Yet he couldn’t do anything to maintain it. As he froze in shock, Akihito felt guilty. He excused himself and left Hiroomi wide eyed with a question hanging from his lips.
--
Mirai realized that if there was something that she didn’t want, it was killing Akkey. She began to like him, not because he was her soulmate, but because he was kind.
If it was Akkey, she didn’t mind whatever consequence that await her. Because of him, she began opening up to others; she began being friends with them. Akihito made her learn a lot of things. She was grateful for Mitsuki too, and the others. So far she was enjoying her stay with them. She enjoyed the idol performance that they made just to capture the youmo. Being with them felt like she finally had a place where she belonged. For someone who felt like she was a burden, she had a hard time processing this. She didn't want to lose someone she held dear again. That’s why, she decided, that this time around she wouldn’t make the same mistake. this time, She would protect what was important to her.
—-
Hiroomi didn’t know what to do.
The calm came, and as a consequence, Akkey was in a coma. Hiroomi was starting to lose it. The feelings that he buried inside of him swelled and made itself present now that Akkey is on the verge of death. He regreted the fact that he couldn’t say “I love you” to him properly. He regreted holding back. Now that it’s too late, he realized that despite everything he still loved Akkey. Mitsuki could only observe how much he freaked out. How much, if he’d like, to beg God to keep Akkey alive.
---
Akkey woke up after months of being unconscious. The first thought that came to him was Mirai.
Where was she? He wanted to see her.
Hiroomi and Mitsuki accompanied him to eat at AI’s, but Akihito insisted on wanting to see Mirai. He wanted to go to the raging portal above their town to find her. Hiroomi was pissed off.
Akkey was selfish. Akkey never truly cared about his feelings. He never considered how Hiroomi felt waiting for him to wake up without any guarantee of him actually waking.
It pained Hiroomi but he couldn’t do anything to stop Akihito. Of course he would like to be with Mirai because they were soulmates. It was only natural.
When everything was said and done, when their powers were no more, and the calm was no longer a threat, Hiroomi left, leaving only the trundle of the train in his wake as a form of goodbye.

Binge-Watching: Blue Exorcist, Episodes 1-3
Sometimes, life just works out.
I know that’s a statement that’s becoming harder to believe in in these increasingly depressing times, but it remains true. Sometimes, everything just turns out alright, and a day you would never have given a second thought to normally becomes a truly magical experience thanks to a stroke of wonderful luck. Sometimes, life is able to surprise you by giving you exactly what you wanted before you even knew you wanted it.
Sometimes, life gives you Blue Exorcist.
Right Up My Ally
If you were present for my Seraph of the End liveblog, you know I have a soft spot for series that can just be fun, with no qualifications or caveats. It’s harder to achieve than you might think: fun takes work, and crafting a project around the simple experience of enjoying yourself requires a lot of finesse and care. Fun takes effort, fun takes work. But if you pull through, you end up with a really enjoyable show that just puts you in a good mood watching it. Seraph season 1, Noragami, Kyoukai no Kanata... none of these are the best shows in existence, but I greatly enjoyed the time I spent with all of them, and the feeling of reconnecting to the lizard-brain part of me that just wants to see cool people do cool shit is something I hope I will never fully grow out of. These good-enough shows matter more than you might think at first glance.
And although we’re only 3 episodes in so far, Blue Exorcist has the potential to the best good-enough show I’ve ever seen.
That isn’t intended as a back-handed compliment, to be clear; the ability to hit the perfect sweet spot of storytelling where everything just clicks satisfactorally with no excess flab dragging the proceedings down is a hard skill to fully master. But Blue Exorcist has that technique down pat. Its storytelling, aside from some overly expositional dialogue in the first episode, is tight and concise. It spends a good half episode letting us get to know Rin and his circumstances before it starts dropping demonic bombs into the mix, giving us time to get invested before the plot gets rolling in earnest. It hits familiar beats, to be sure- the hotheaded punk with daddy issues trying to go straight, the badass old mentor figure who dies horribly in the opening act to thrust our hero into a world of wonder and mystery, the light/dark struggle of a person with a literal demon inside him, and, of course, anime high school, to name a few. But it hits them with the confidence of the rock-solid storytelling backing them up that makes you remember why you fell in love with these tropes in the first place.
Best Boy Rin
When I talk about effective storytelling in stories like this, I’m really talking about a show understanding the basic questions of drama. Who are these characters? What do they want? What do they need? Why do we care about them? The aforementioned half-episode of build-up to our first demon sighting is all about answering these questions, getting us to understand and empathize with Rin Okumura. And it works because Rin is, quite frankly, a really great protagonist. He’s the classic punk with a heart of gold, a kid who grew up abandoned by his parents and forced to figure himself out with limited guidance. As such, he developed both a mean streak in self-defense and an intense moral compass to direct that mean streak toward the people who deserve it. What’s really refreshing about him, though, is that he’s genuinely trying to get better as a person, applying for part-time jobs and trying to help people out wherever he can, even if his brasher instincts often get the better of him. You get a sense of a person who knows they need to shape up and is putting in the legwork to do so, which goes a long way to endearing you towards him before the demons start pouring out of the woodwork and you realize just how difficult the world is going to make his quest for self-redemption.
It also helps that Rin is a dork. Like, a major dork. His increasingly feeble lies to his priest guardian as he grills him on whether he got into a fight or not (”It was a mother of a fall.”) paint a picture of a kid who knows there’s no way to fool his “dad” but is putting up a token resistance all the same out of habit. It’s a great character-building detail that also happens to be the first real moment we spend with him, which sets the stage for how much of a delightful brat he’s gonna be moving forward. His flustered inability to tie a tie (”The no tie look is IN, for your information!”) was really great. And judging by how damn good he looked in a work apron doing chores for the supermarket, I have a sneaking suspicion he’s got about a million fangirls, which is A-OK with me.
Honestly, I could gush about that first half episode for a lot longer, but this post is gonna end up really damn long anyway, so I’ll cut it here. Bottom line, the first 12 minutes of Blue Exorcist do a fantastic job getting us to root for Rin. Which is good, because once the shit hits the fan and Rin’s blue demon flame powers awaken, there’s no turning back.
Daddy Devil
Everyone has problems with their parents sometimes. You disagree over where your life should go, you argue over rules and boundaries, it happens to everyone. But it’s not everyone who has to deal with literally Satan being their father and wanting to force them to join him as his ally in hell. It’s clear Rin has a lot of abandonment issues stemming from his absent dad, much like fellow punk-ass kid Yusuke Yurameshi, and he’s none too keen on his father showing up out of the blue and trying to act like he owned the kid. Especially when he made his appearance by taking over and destroying the body of Rin’s surrogate father, whom he had just finished blowing up at for seemingly preparing to abandon him just like Daddy Devil did. It’s the metaphor of an overly controlling parent blown up to its logical extreme.
Rin’s going to have to process and work through a lot if he wants to escape his father’s influence. I mean he literally inherited Satan’s powers and is using them in his fight against Satan himself. His fraternal brother Yukio admits to growing up scared of him thanks to that connection. And now, Rin’s decided to learn to be an exorcist himself, to join an elite group of demon fighters specially trained to take down monsters like him. But somehow, he’s gonna make it happen. And there’s no better symbol for how much this show works than our main protagonist being able to say “I’m gonna beat the shit out of Satan!” with a straight face. I don’t care who you are, that’s just straight-up awesome.
LSDemons
Of course, all that excellent emotion-driven character work is only one half of the equation; it wouldn’t be much of a shonen adaptation if there wasn’t some sweet action to get us pumped up. Thankfully, Blue Exorcist delivers there too. Like everything else, it has the fine art of delivering creative, kickass moments down to a T. The entire second episode is dedicated to a siege on the monastery, with a horned demon on one side and Rin’s adopted father on the other, climaxing with Satan’s first big appearance and Rin activating his demon heritage by unsheathing his blade. It’s a fantastically entertaining standoff, mainly because it’s just so damn creative. Seriously, we’ve got giant maniacal mushrooms facing off against salt-summoned scarecrow guardians while Spirited Away coal blobs float through the air and devotees of god use magical circles on their fists to punch zombie dogs into oblivion. It’s like Fullmetal Alchemist by way of Alice in Wonderland, and if you haven’t creamed your pants even a little just from that description alone, I don’t want to know you.
In fact, the entire show just has a really great sense of style and flow. I especially love the color design, full of contrasting, stark primaries that clash for dramatic effect in almost every frame, like a rich neon rainbow. And the design of the magic town is incredible, a turtle-shell tower that looks straight out of Howl’s Moving Castle (which is another movie I haven’t seen yet. God dammit, I always bring it around to how little Miyazaki I’ve watched, don’t I?). It’s even got some moments of genuinely impressive CG backgrounds that flow and composite shockingly well with the 2-D elements floating around in them. But the show’s secret weapon is its soundtrack, a beautifully melodic series of tracks that make this world feel genuinely fantastical. And in the epic moment where the priest overcomes his possession and kills himself to banish Satan, and Rin is left staring at his dead body once the dust has settled... oof. Yeah, whoever’s composing for this show, kudos, because you really know what you’re doing.
KAMIYAAAAAAAAAA!!!
And yet, among all this excellent work, the real star of the show so far is Mephisto Pheles, the headmaster of True Cross Academy. He is quite possibly the single most extra motherfucker I’ve ever seen in anime outside of Jojo’s Bizarre Adventure, and I love literally everything about him. I love his stupid while magician/clown get-up, I love how his umbrella has an ice cream cone handle, I love the flamboyant flamenco music that serves as his character theme, I love how confidently he owns the color pink, I love how he just has a giant fucking limousine, I love how he can transform into a dopey-ass dog, and I love how expressively he’s animated. But above all else, I love that he’s voiced by none other than the God Emperor of male seiyuus, Hiroshi Motherfucking Kamiya (and yes, that’s his actual legal middle name, don’t question me). Kamiya is such a uniquely gifted performer, with a voice smoother than butter gently kissed by a summer’s heat. And hearing him cut loose with such a wild, give-no-fucks character is music to my goddamn ears. I don’t care if this show goes completely to shit by the end; as long as it keeps giving me more Mephisto, it’s cool by me.
Odds and Ends
-This OP is giving me major Noragami feels. That’s a good thing, by the by.
-”Did you miss the part where I said I was gonna charge you?” pfft
-Nice framing of Rin and the thugs on either side of a fence post through the cracks in the mesh. Creative cinematography for the win!
-Something about the animation of those demon mushrooms rapidly growing on the walls was really cool.
-Interesting twist that the shy, nerdy Yukio is attracting all the female attention while the ruggedly handsome bad boy Rin watches from the sidelines. I dig it.
-OH My GOD YUKIO’S THE EXORCIST TEACHER? This show just keeps getting better.
-”What were dad’s final moments like?” “He was awesome.” You said it, Rin.
-”Oh man, I’ve gotta think of a lesson plan even Rin can follow.” This is gonna be amazing.
Oh man, it’s been a while since I’ve been this excited right from the starting pistol. Here’s hoping Blue Exorcist can keep this hot streak going. Thank you all for joining me, and I’ll see you next time as the adventure continues?

Violet Evergarden- the finale. A rant.
You know what Kyoani is good at? Crushing your hopes.
It’s been like that with Free. Been like that with Kyoukai no Kanata. I am not saying Kyoani is not a good studio, their work usually transforms into masterpieces, but with adapting Violet Evergarden, they have made a mistake.
I have read the translation of the novels shortly after the first episode aired, because I was very curious and could not wait to know what would happen or how it possibly could end. Before episode 3 aired, I had finished reading it all and I was fairly pleased and satisfied with the written works. I loved them, I loved the characters, explanations, plotline and most importantly, I loved the ending.
Admittedly, at first I enjoyed watching the anime adaption as well. I told myself that nobody ever exactly sticks to the novels/books when making a movie/series/anime etc. Things would be changed, new things would be added. That is pretty normal and I decided that I could live with that very well.
I was OK with the fact they left out characters and brought in own ones with unique storylines.
I was OK with the fact that they changed hair colours or generally some appearances of a few characters.
I  tried to be OK with the fact that personality traits were changed too.
I was OK with the fact that Violet learned pretty fast, almost too fast and ended up being weak most of the time. (No offense but wth Kyoani..)
I was OK with the fact they left out some (important) details such as Hodgins being bisexual, more of Cattleya x Benedict’s conflicts and feelings (Even though, I gotta say I ship Hodgins x Cattleya a whole lot more, already did in the novels as well xD sue me).
I was OK with the fact that they made me like Dietfried more than I should and that they changed his character as well, making him more relevant for Violet too.
I even accepted the fact that they replaced Gilbert with Dietfried in episode 12 at the train incident scene. I honestly was able to swallow the cringe down and told myself that there had to be something big and better to come, that would make up for all the past mistakes that I had to be so very salty about B U T. Guess what?
It never came. And it only got worse.
Now, I am not going to judge the whole last episode, I liked some aspects about it, I might have even gotten a little emotional at some point, but this ending was a mess. It was far off good and far off being close to tolerable for me. We do not know where Gilbert is now. Is he alive? Is he dead? Did Violet see him at the end? I love Gilbert wholeheartedly but his potential was truly wasted and Kyoani would have made him seem as if he was an asshole if he ever decided to show up. Or maybe they just killed him off, I believe that would be truly for the best in the end...
You know, I guess I could have forgiven them if they showed him to us. If they showed us that he was alive and well, let us see his face so that our hopes were not completely crushed – because eventually, I had hopes for him to return till the very last second of the finale. I would not have needed an explanation. Just his face.
But no. We got an open ending that leaves us with many ways of seeing this and I am honestly not okay with it. I hate it. I truly do. I hate this ending. And I have never been more disappointed by an animation than this one right now. It should not bother me so much, but I loved and felt this story (novel) a whole lot and I cannot get over the fact that Kyoani wasted it all so much. Especially at the ending.
Now I know there will be a new project? I wonder what it could be. Sequel maybe? A movie? Whatever they come up with, I do not want to build up any hopes and get them crushed yet again, but for the anime’s reputation it would be better if they brought in Gilbert or at least cleared the situation if he is truly dead or not. Teasing and never actually explaining anything won’t make the “fans” love it more. It will only disappoint them.
The last thing I want to add is that if you have not read the story, that is fine. If you enjoyed the anime to the very last episode, if you loved the ending, that is fine too! That is your opinion and your opinion matters as well. Do not hate on someone that loved the anime or someone that hated it. Everyone is free to state their mind and thoughts and so am I.
Maybe someone agrees on this with me, or maybe nobody does, but I honestly could not give this a rest before I hadn’t written down what’s on my mind.
