K-Pop Scandals 2023

This year had a lot of scandals, from serious abuse allegations and harmless dating scandals, to quite a few contract disputes between idols and companies. There were also a lot of news of members leaving their groups, fans being a pain in the ass and sending embarrassing protest trucks for pretty much anything, etc. So, check out my annual list of the most important k-pop scandals of 2023.

"Don't be nervous 자기, I'm sure they'll love you. Besides it's just lunch." He didn't tell me we had plans to have lunch with his members until this morning and I wish I had more time to prepare. "Well I don't want to make a bad first impression, I'm almost done anyways." I apply my lipgloss grabbing my purse as I look in the mirror making sure nothing is out of place. "You look beautiful as always baby so don't worry."

He takes my hand leading me out the door and into the unwelcoming cold weather. The light snow coming down makes me shiver. "We're not walking there right?" A driver pulls up with his car and opens the passenger door. "Of course not, it's too far and too cold." He takes the driver's place and we drive off.

We get to the restaurant and the entire group of Super Junior is there...including my bias Donghae. "Guys this is my girlfriend Y/n, you've been dying to meet her so here she is." They all raise an eyebrow. "Okay sugar daddy, she's a bit young for you isn't she? Maybe I should take her off your hands." Kyuhyun says smiling and Leeteuk rolls his eyes and it gets a laugh out of the others. "Come on it was a good joke, you are older than her am I right? What year are you Y/n씨?" " '94..." They all look at each other and burst out laughing. My boyfriend sighs shaking his head. "You're 11 years her senior??"

Leeteuk pulls out a chair and gestures for me to sit. "Don't worry about that, age is just a number anyways." I tense up learning my seat is across from Donghae. "Well she's really pretty and loves you so I think that's all that matters." Donghae says winking at me. Leeteuk clears his throat and sits next to me. "She does love me, 자기 order anything you want." He takes my coat off and places it on the back of my chair and does the same with his own. "So Y/n who's your bias? Or are you more into younger groups like Exo or BTS?"

I want to slightly roll my eyes hearing the last question because everyone always assumes I like BTS, I do but that's not the point. "Well before dating Leeteuk, it was Donghae. I do like some other groups but I like older men." Ryeowook spits out his water. "Wow you're really honest, I like her." Donghae says smiling making my cheeks feel hot.

Although out the lunch Donghae would talk to meet and ask me questions and laugh at my friendly jokes. Leeteuk on the other hand by the end of lunch was really touchy and seemingly ready to go. "Baby let's get out of here, I'm ready to go." I pout slightly not wanting to leave. "Aww but I'm having such a good time. Well it was lovely meeting all of you. I'm sure we'll have to have you guys over for dinner one day." Ryeowook raises an eyebrow. "You can cook Y/n??" I nod as Leeteuk helps me put on my coat. "Any Korean dishes or like American stuff?" Shindong asks rubbing his stomach.

"Didn't you just have lunch? Y/n makes Korean, Caribbean and American dishes really well. Anyways we have another thing to do today so we're going to head out first." I wave goodbye after my boyfriend drags me out the restaurant. "Hey hey what's up with you?? You're the one who asked me to come and now you're rushing me to leave." He looks at me and sighs. "Well you see I noticed how Donghae kept eyeing you the whole time and you two were laughing. It made me a little jealous." I didn't expect him to admit it. "Well open communication is key, that's why we talk things out. I'm glad you told me but you know I picked you for a reason. You're my baby."

He smirks pulling me closer to him. "No no I'm your daddy. Come give daddy some sugar baby." He leans down connecting our lips in a swift kiss but I pull him in closer deepening the kiss. I hear whistles coming from the restaurant and we pull apart. "Ayo you forgot to pay your bill! You owe me 375,000,000 ₩!!!" Yesung shouts from the door.

Announcement!

I will be holding a holiday event this December once again! Rather than creating a google form (seeing as that didn't work very well for my previous event), I will be accepting the first 31 requests that come through for this event. Since it's going to be a holiday event, please send in holiday prompts with your artist of choice (anyone currently in any of my masterlists who I write for. please note that if the artist you request is strictly platonic or sibling, I will only write in that context for them). I am open to smut for this event as well (please check out my guidelines regarding smut. if they aren't followed, or disregard my guideline, I won't be writing that request). Vanilla Latte (Chapter 3)

Chapter 2 | Chapter 3

You arrived at the first address on the paper Kyuhyun had passed to you. Surely, it would be easy enough to find the car, or so you thought. Unluckily, the first address led you to a whole ass carpark...

You considered giving Kyuhyun a text immediately to ask him which car it was. But Kyuhyun was probably busy, so you decided to figure it out on your own. This made you begin spamming the unlock button on the car key and pointing it aimlessly in different directions, hoping you were in range of the vehicle. After a few attempts, one car in particular started to wail.

Turns out you had been pressing on the wrong button when it finally came into range. You quickly undid that mistake and looked around to see if anyone was looking in your direction. Seeing no one, you quickly opened the car door on the passenger side. Realising your mistake, you shifted to the driver's seat instead. Thankfully you were here alone. You could drive, you had a license, but you hadn't done it in a long time. You also had no idea why you were being so careful with not being caught - maybe you really felt like a secret agent. Or because you really had no idea what you were doing at all.

You settled down and quickly took a good look at the car you were in. It was a luxury car - an Audi in fact. It was one of your dream cars, and all of a sudden you were about to drive it. The car seemed extremely clean and new, almost spotless, as if nobody has used it before. It had a sweet chocolate or coffee sort of scent. As you sat on the luxurious leather seat, you took great care in checking that none of the buttons on your clothing were rubbing against it.

Bringing up the piece of paper, you entered the second address into the GPS of the Audi, revealing your location to be about 35 minutes away. You began to drive off - and as you exited the dark carpark, the sunlight flashed into your eyes causing you to flinch. You looked around the inside of the car to find a pair of sunglasses, putting them on so you could stop squinting.

Suddenly, in the back of your head, Super Junior's "Black Suit" began playing and you drove through the streets like the main character of a secret agent movie. If you had been on a convertible, your hair would be flamboyantly flowing against the wind as you drove along the Seongsu Bridge above Han River.

Though you started immersing yourself in the feeling of it all, you knew you had to focus on the task at hand.

You started to imagine what the secret was between Kyuhyun and this car. Why does he have a car stashed in the middle of nowhere? What was this mission you had been set to complete and why couldn't Kyuhyun do it on his own or get Yoonjae to do it?

As soon as you arrived at the destination, you noticed several neat buildings located alongside a neighbourhood park. A group of young students walking side by side, arguing over a stick of sotteok-sotteok.

You pulled over slowly while watching them, laughing as you reminisced your childhood back home, when a rhythmic knock on the Audi's glass startled you. Clumsily, you removed the sunglasses to see Kyujin as you scrambled to exit the car, almost not recognising her.

"Kyuhyun said you'd be here. Though you're a little late, let's go quickly. I'll drive." Kyujin's voice was muffled over the window.

Go where? You thought to yourself but quickly kept the sunglasses back into its original spot as you re-entered the car on the passenger side.

You sat in the car silently, picking at one of your fingernails occasionally as Kyujin drove. The silence had gone on for 10 minutes and you couldn't help but notice his sister's random side glares toward your direction. You were about to look to your right past the other cars amidst the traffic to dispel some of the awkwardness in the vehicle when Kyujin finally spoke.

"How old are you?" She speaks clearly while still safely navigating the traffic.

Koreans loved asking this question. You thought to yourself. You had learned about this habit, or tradition, when you first came to Seoul for an exchange. The hierarchy system was apparent in Korea, and you didn't mind it. Ironically, you liked it.

"I'm 24 this year. International age." You replied in a proper manner. Something about Kyujin just made you feel you had to speak extremely formally.

"Right, they changed the rules this year. We're all adopting the international age now". She mumbles to herself, and the silence resumed. "Anyway, since you're younger, you wouldn't mind if I dropped the honorifics, would you?" She asked.

"Ah, no of course not. I don't mind." You assured her, and the silence quickly resumed again.

You glanced to the sky as it looked slightly overcast. Not a common sight for a season like autumn. You looked back onto the road quickly as another car swerved into the Audi's lane as Kyujin stepped on the brakes, somehow gently but effectively. Good thing Kyujin was driving, you thought. She was quite silent but in the moment you wondered if she would ever curse.

"I'm sorry for asking," you finally gathered some courage to ask as your curiosity took over you more and more as each minute had passed. "But where are we heading to?"

"Why so formal? Don't be so serious. We're just going to pick up groceries." Kyujin reassures you, making you feel stupid all of a sudden. It felt like a bucket of ice-cold water had been splashed onto your face at her comment.

Why did you think you were on some important mission to help Kyuhyun? You realised you were just here to bring the vehicle to Kyuhyun's sister so she could take care of her family chores. Though, this still didn't explain why he had a whole other vehicle - an Audi at that - stashed nowhere near where he stayed, as in Cheongdam, like he'd always briefly mentioned in variety shows.

"Are you hungry?" Kyujin asks.

"Me? Nope, I just had coffee."

"Okay, but coffee isn't food. Let's go get something after I'm done. It's been a while since a homemaker like me got some self-care time."

"Oh, that's fine. You can go ahead, ma'am!"

Kyujin looks in your direction quickly, quite startled and also very amused that you'd call her ma'am. "You... can call me eonni." she let out a tiny chuckle, "Really. Don't be so formal. If Kyu trusts you with this car, he must be pretty fond of you. How did you two meet?" She asks casually.

You were surprised to hear her say that, and a little happy. "Actually, we just met. At a café in Mapo-gu." you reply.

Kyujin jolted and jammed quickly on the brakes. "You... what? He just met you? Like just?" You nodded as she continues, "... and he let you drive this car?"

You paused, then nodded, thinking if something went wrong.

"Apparently so." Kyujin added. Now you were even more curious as to how important this car was to Kyuhyun and why. A vehicle behind the Audi started honking away until Kyujin started to drive again.

"All the more we should have a meal after this." Kyujin says, scaring you a little.

After getting groceries at an eMart and dropping it off at Kyujin's place, you drove the both of you to an Italian café known for very good pasta.

"You seem to know a little about cooking, the way you picked out the ingredients." Kyujin says.

"Mmm." You nodded humbly. "I do some cooking for my family on some days."

"Filial." She comments. You blushed, a little guiltily. You did do some cooking but it had been a while since you actually did it because you became busier.

When your dishes arrived, Kyujin signalled for you to dig in. You both ate at a similar pace, though you were a little uncomfortable eating in front of a semi-stranger. And it didn't help that Kyujin seemed to be analysing you while you ate, with an occasional squint in her eyes.

"So I'm guessing you don't know what you got yourself into?" She says.

"What did I get myself into?" You questioned bluntly.

"Well, one good thing is, he definitely trusts you. The second thing, I don't exactly know what he's thinking but I'll let him do the explaining." she says. She might as well not have said anything because that answer was as vague as ever, though you didn't want to question her.

"Okay." you mumbled, continuing to chew quietly as she takes a sip of water. She fumbled with her linguine for a few seconds, then spoke.

"Are you always this quiet?"

You paused. "Most of the time, yeah. I mean, I don't really know you." You say as her face seemed to show that she took a bit of offence. "Sorry, I mean, I'm really quite... quiet in front of... people I've just met?" You say it in a tone, hoping she wouldn't take it personally.

She nods, understandingly all of a sudden. In her head, all she could think of was how emotionless you seemed to be.

"Hey, he's not paying you for this right?"

"I don't know". You replied because you really still didn't know what was going on.

"It's not much, but this meal's on me." She flashed a smile, and you thanked her gratefully.

Right when the both of you were almost done with the meal, Kyujin's phone rang.

"Mm, Kyu. What is it?" She answers. She quickly looks up at you. "He doesn't even have your phone number?" She directs the question to you, slightly taken aback. "Yes, Kyu, she's with me still." she continues, "Mmm."

Kyujin passes you the phone with Kyuhyun still on the line. "Yours."

You took the phone awkwardly and spoke. "Hello?"

to be continued Writer's note: aaaa I'm having so much writer's block with this series already. Though I have some fun future plans for it already, it may take a few chapters for Kyuhyun and Juyoung's relationship to get to that point.

Taeil doesn't like being pushed, he's been very vocal abt liking to do stuff at his speed. He is too chill to start being annoyed abt stuff like him not getting opportunities, u need to network to get gigs. Doyoung like shinee key keeps growing his network and gets gigs on TV thanks to his network.

As for taeil sleeping 14 hours he shared it coz he wanted to share for once he slept for long. Aespa were asked to request things and winter asked for holidays, aespa hasn't been releasing anything for a while but they were busy. SM isn't a small label focusing on one thing per group.

Djj started recording in 2021, most ppl record stuff and await for their time. Key waited 6 months for his solo debut, he had to release very summer songs in winter. Sometimes things don't work the way a company wants them too, they wanted exo to have a comeback but army was adamant for Kai to be sent to army. Same with taeil being the same age as kai and sehun so they will have to leave soon too (maybe December or Jan)

6 months isn't the time to introduce a new artist in the market. Like Luna, taeil doesn't have a big fandom so they need him to be pushed in public spaces but he isn't witty like kyuhyun so they will go the same route they did with jonghyun (jjong like taeilnwas pushed as a visual and that got him a lot of fans unlike taeil who lost interest to keep his hot looks )

Maybe Taeil will be back ripped from the army? Heh.

Taeil had up and downs when it comes to making an effort. He improved in dancing for the last comebacks. He is a bit better at modelling. He dieted not that long ago fror another comeback (I can't recall which one).

Taeil was very happy during the last comebacks, he opened up and became more funny as well. He'll find a comfortable niche for himself, if he hasn't already. D.O. didn't even promote his first album. He made an album for his fans and that was enough for him. He finds fulfillment creatively through acting. And Taeil might do it through song-writing or something else away from fans' eyes.

127 are working, they have adverts to shoot, they met recently for that sauna content. Clothes need fitting, songs need practice and recording. The performance in May in Bangkok needs choreo practice.

In pursue of his ambition Doyoung has to swim in a cold ocean on his birthday day or refuse to eat his favourite hamburgers for several weeks. This extreme lifestyle is not for everyone.

2022 Retrospective: Song of the Year

A bit late, but I still have the urge to scream about stuff into the void, so here is my retrospective of 2022, split up into multiple posts. This will be a bit of a spam, I apologise in advance.

Similar to last year, there is a lot to say about Music. Here is a top 10:

Number 1: E’LAST – Shelter

So, my favourite song this year is not only my favourite E’LAST song as of now, but also my favourite B-Side (And spoilers: it’s not the only B-Side in this top 10). But what can I say about this? It’s gorgeous, it’s theatrical, it’s everything I wanted from E’LAST and more. The flow of the song is perfect, and, for a ballad, the rap is super well incorporated. E’LAST also performed this song live a few times and all the clips I have seen are absolutely fantastic. Their Live vocals are amazing, and this is the perfect song to show that.

Number 2: KEY – BOUND

Another stellar B-Side. But where Shelter wouldn’t have been a good title track, this one absolutely should have been the title track of Gasoline. It showcases KEY’s complete register, from his low to high-notes and the choreo is just the cherry on top this amazing song. The tutting and voguing is simply inspired and the perfect choice for KEY.

Number 3: Kenshi Yonezu – KICK-BACK

Here we go again. It’s Kenshi Yonezu what can I even say at this point? He incorporates actual chainsaw noises into the instrumental and that’s just perfect for the intro to CHAINSAW MAN. The sound of KICK-BACK is also more reminiscent of his older HACHI stuff, at least to me, and I like that for him. Kenshi Yonezu just always delivers.

Number 4: ATEEZ – Cyberpunk

Almost everyone agrees that this should have been the title track instead of Guerrilla and I think so too, but I also like Guerrilla as a title track, so I don’t have any issues with it not being a title track. But I do think we could have at least gotten a dance practise or a performance in high quality of it, because damn, the choreo looks cool. Anyways, back to the song. The vocals are impeccable, and the high notes are fantastic (as always). Especially the high note before the second chorus, where Hongjoong is rapping over it. More songs need to do that.

Number 5: Max Changmin – Maniac/Fever

Max Changmin came in at the beginning of the year, casually delivered one of the best albums and vanished again. The title track is fine, but the B-Sides really steal the show and I’m again unable to decide which song I prefer (No, I’m not lumping them into one longer text to cheat another song into the top 10, I would never-). Maniac is just a funky good time song, that feels incredibly retro but also modern at the same time and Changmin’s vocals are insane. I also really adore the music video with all its references to Hitchcock and Stephen King. And Fever is just a One-Man-Musical, using everything in his range to create one of the most theatrical songs and experiences of the year. I also firmly believe that there is no other vocalist in K-Pop (except maybe Kyuhyun) that could have pulled this song off, like how Changmin does. And if anyone where to ask me, I’d say that this is the song that created his child.

Number 6: WOODZ – I Hate You

Whenever I think “Oh, this is everything I wanted from WOODZ!” he just finds something else I never knew I needed and executes it perfectly. Case and point: The Colorful Trauma Mini Album. I Hate You is one of the few K-Pop songs this year that really delivered in the Rock/Punk-Sound resurgence and it’s simply astonishing just how easily it leaves most other Rock/Punk-Comebacks in the dust (except for Billlie).

Number 7: PURPLE KISS – Nerdy

While I wasn’t the biggest fan of memeM as a Comeback (more on that later), I absolutely love this one. It’s exactly the type of song and concept that PURPLE KISS executes well, and it also gives me massive HIP flashbacks, just funky. There are a few minor things that hold it back, like the choreo looking kind of unfinished and some inconsistencies with the styling and the lyrics, but I’m ready to overlook all that, because this song is simply a banger.

Number 8: TAN – DU DU DU

I’m not usually a fan of groups formed through casting shows, but this one fell through the radar and I’m actually mad about that. TAN had an amazing debut. The song immediately gave me flashbacks to HISTORY, which was one of my favourite boy groups, and I absolutely love it. The bassline and drop are incredibly satisfying. Jooan, the main vocal, has an amazing voice and you can really hear that he is a big fan of Taemin. He also acts as a bitter reminder that we let WE IN THE ZONE flop.

Number 9: Forestella – Utopia

This was released at the end of December, but still sneaked its way into my top 10. It’s Rock Opera and somehow that’s right up my alley. All the vocals in this song are amazing and their harmonies are stellar. Their other song this year is also very good, but this one just builds on it and makes it better, which apparently is the purpose of it. I’d also like to highlight that Hyungho falls for the same trick of “Here, eat this apple” twice.

Number 10: ONEW – Sunshine

Finally something from ONEW that’s not a boring ballad with stellar vocals. DICE is good as well, but this song is just so comforting, I just adore it. The version with AKMU’s Suhyun is probably even better than the original and I’m kinda mad that this wasn’t a full on collab, but God this song just makes me smile so effortlessly.

Kyuwook Fest 2022 ~ a short ficlet collection~ [ Bed Sharing / Roommates ]

Bed Sharing / Roommates – Ryeowook has never doubted Kyuhyun's love before, but sometimes scenarios in his mind differ from his reality. Sharing the bed with his lover is the only way to tame his insecurities.

The spotlights in the carpeted hallway of the hotel had been dimmed, signalling that it was past midnight and time to go to sleep for all the residents. No one was seen nor heard, until a soft click of a door echoed throughout the corridor. The complimentary, soft slippers silently padded their way till they reached a door just a few metres away from theirs. A soft hand clasped the handle, while the other tapped a magnetic key against the lock, wincing as the unlocking noise resulted even louder in the dead silence of the night.

“Ryeong?” a husky, velvety voice came from the bed. After closing the door behind himself, Ryeowook swirled around, pointing his soft gaze towards the direction the voice was coming from, only to find Kyuhyun comfortably lying against a pile of pillows while still contemplating his huge book.

“I thought you wanted to take your time while packing your stuff,” bewildered, Kyuhyun kept on looking at Ryeowook who took off his spongey bathrobe and tossed it onto a soft armchair somewhere in a corner of the room. Wearing nothing but a wrinkly, large t-shirt and a pair of shorts, he quickly reached the king-sized bed and crawled on it, wanting to reach the empty spot by Kyuhyun’s side.

“I’m done with packing, everything is ready for our departure, tomorrow,” he calmly explained as he took his sweet time arranging a few pillows next to his lover and then plunge into the soft comfortability of the mattress.

Setting aside his book – who had any time to read books when your cute boyfriend was nestling by your side, anyway – Kyuhyun let out a soft giggle. He moved his arm so that Ryeowook could scoot closer to his body and then held the man against his chest, where Ryeowook rested his head.

“I want to sleep with you tonight,” Ryeowook softly admitted, amidst a small yawn.

“You’ve spent the last three days ignoring my invitations, but you’re using the spare key I gave you just now?” Kyuhyun asked, confused.

Shrugging, Ryeowook placed a hand over Kyuhyun’s stomach, before slipping it around his waist and hugging the man tighter, as if he were hugging a giant body pillow. There was something bittersweet in the way he clung to his lover and Kyuhyun could feel it. It was making him a bit distressed and concerned.

“I know,” Ryeowook admitted “I just wanted to enjoy a bit of time with myself and my own routine, nothing against you,” he mumbled, repeating what he had told Kyuhyun ever since the first day they had reached London and settled in their respective hotel rooms. All the members were given a set of two keys each for their own bedrooms, however Ryeowook and Kyuhyun usually exchanged one so that they could freely come and go from the other’s too.

“You’ve told me that already,” Kyuhyun replied, gently caressing Ryeowook’s hip to comfort him better. “Are you alright? Nothing’s wrong?” Kyuhyun asked, a bit of concern stained his voice while his warm, big hand slipped through the cotton fabric of Ryeowook’s t-shirt to make all his loving gestures feel even more intimate as his fingers lightly skimmed on the bare skin of his lover. Ryeowook’s breath evened while he softly purred like a kitten in the hands of his owner: “Don’t you ever ask yourself what would it be like if we weren’t together? If we hadn’t been roommates?” he asked, out of the blue.

Stilling, it took a few seconds for Kyuhyun to realize the kind of question Ryeowook had just blurted. He furrowed his brows in confusion as he found a way to answer without sounding alarmed by that impromptu quiz. Sixteen years later and that had been in no way, for either of them, source for questioning the spontaneity and naturalness of how their relationship had come to be.

Why starting now?

“I don’t,” Kyuhyun simply answered, making Ryeowook stir in the hug so now he was propping himself on his hand while taking a good, puzzled look at Kyuhyun, doing it so he could perhaps detect the authenticity of his lover’s words.

“You… don’t?” Ryeowook asked again, confused “Why?”

Kyuhyun blinked several times as he looked down at Ryeowook, quickly blurting out: “I’m sorry, Ryeong, but why would I re-think sixteen years of my life spent with you, my best friend and lover?”

“B-because-“ Ryeowook blushed hard, looking even cuter as he fumbled with a way of expressing himself “I sometimes look at you during your tv shows, surrounded by pretty ladies all fawning about you and your amazing skills and-“

“And you should be thankful I don’t want to be with any of them but you!” Kyuhyun exclaimed, almost in shock after hearing Ryeowook sharing such a stupid insight that was coming from his insecurity. After all those years… Ryeowook should have known better than question their mutual feelings.

“I am!” Ryeowook pouted, quickly clarifying, the apples of his cheeks were warm and pink under Kyuhyun’s touch, who was cupping Ryeowook’s face in his hands so to direct his boyfriend’s look straight into his own “Don’t misunderstand me, I am grateful about all the years we’ve been together but,”

“I want to hear no buts, Ryeong,” Kyuhyun told him, brushing his thumbs along the other man’s cheekbones “What’s going on in your mind? Do you want to break up with me?!” the younger one worriedly asked because if he had been the first one to pronounce such a scary sentence, perhaps he might have been able to stigmatize it and push the whole idea away too.

Ryeowook was so quick in moving. He freed himself of the hold and pulled a bit away from Kyuhyun, only to punch him on a shoulder, bearing and offended look while doing that.

“Ouch! Ryeowook-ah!” Kyuhyun let out a high-pitched wince while he rubbed his own shoulder to ease the pain. He had to be more careful of his own words, since he knew Ryeowook was quite used in reacting this way whenever he heard something he didn’t really like.

“Cho Kyuhyun, you better stop now!” Ryeowook scolded him, his heart was beating furiously in his chest after hearing Kyuhyun ask such a dumb question. He had no intention whatsoever to break up with his man, mind him.

“Stop what?!” Kyuhyun argued back “You were the first one to talk nonsense!”

“I would never, never break up with you. And if you were considering such a bullshit move, I would never allow you to do so!” Ryeowook told him, brows furrowed as he dove back into Kyuhyun’s arms and rubbed his face against the man’s chest “You’re stuck with me for other sixteen and more years!”

Delighted to be reminded he was in a pretty seriously committed relationship, Kyuhyun giggled in that signature way of his, where his face brightly lit up and his lips were pursed in a narcissistic, smug smirk.

“I’d be happy and honoured to spend the rest of my lifetime with you,” the younger promised, patting Ryeowook’s head “But now, you need to tell me why you were asking that question just before,”

“Sometimes I wonder,” Ryeowook sighed “what our life would be like if we never debuted and therefore never met each other as Super Junior members,”

Adjusting himself next to Kyuhyun, Ryeowook let the other man grasp his hand so that their fingers were slowly intertwining with each other in one firm hold that almost melted Ryeowook’s heart.

“Don’t you think we would have found a way to meet each other?” Kyuhyun asked, his eyes now fixed on what a beautiful, maybe perfect, connection their hands were interlocked in.

“I don’t know,” Ryeowook shrugged, struck by what optimism Kyuhyun was conveying.

“Me neither,” Kyuhyun replied “But it doesn’t really matter, since I’m pretty sure our lives would have brought us together. You know, I think we are fated indeed,”

Ryeowook’s eyes were glossy with emotional, unshed tears while he listened to his boyfriend being so very sure of his words. And that was the most heart-warming thing someone could have ever told him to reassure him. “Do you really think so?” Ryeowook asked, barely keeping a sniff while he did his very best to hold back the tears.

“Ryeong,” Kyuhyun tilted Ryeowook’s chin while he softly smiled “You bet everything on our friendship right from the start. We are so different from each other, yet we clicked perfectly because you took great care of me when I joined the group. The walls I had built around my heart crumbled because you showed me that there was someone who could love me unconditionally, and even when I wavered in front of my own feelings for you, because I couldn’t admit to myself that I was slowly falling in love with you, you took my hand and walked me down the path to discover myself. This…”

Kyuhyun’s tongue clicked, his lips were suddenly dry as he tried his best to convey calmness. Never once their relationship had faltered. Their feelings were still steady like the first day they had confessed to each other. It was a silly “I love you” that for other people would have just underlined the enormous and reciprocated love the two young boys had felt for each other. Like brothers. Or the best friends they were.

And to be honest, even the both of them had to go to such a length neither of the other truly believed in the meaning of those three, little words. They had just come to age, and like the adults they had become, they had to face so many responsibilities, shape their own personalities to become the best men they could. So, when they stood in front of each other – that one night after the recording of a show – in the dimly lit bedroom they shared in such an overcrowded dormitory that permitted zero to no privacy – Kyuhyun and Ryeowook had to bravely face each other and clarify that that “I love you” was coming straight from their hearts, truly seasoned by the naïve, ticklish fluttering of million butterflies raging in their stomachs, or a rope tugging them in the guts, bringing them closer to accept that their friendship had just shifted into something better, something higher and more valuable. Simply Love.

“This is why I don’t bother thinking of what ifs, there’s no use in thinking of those, Ryeowook,” Kyuhyun closed their distance by resting his forehead against the other man’s, listening to his breaths matching the rhythm of his heart.

“I’d rather think that, regardless of who we are or what we do, even in alternate universes we are still together and much in love,” Kyuhyun breathed, before drawing Ryeowook closer and placing his lips onto his boyfriend’s, to seal that reassurance with a slow, respectful kiss that tasted of so many good memories from the past, but also hid notes of readiness to face the future and all its adventures, together.

“I love you, Kyu,” with a shaky breath, Ryeowook swore against Kyuhyun’s lips, before giving into one more, taking his sweet time to savour the kisses his lover was so good at sharing.

“I know,” Kyuhyun smiled in the kiss, ducking his head a few moments later only so he could part a bit from Ryeowook and look into his eyes. He brought a hand onto the crown of the coal black hair of his lover and begun to caress him with devotion “You’re mine, Kim Ryeowook, and if there were even just one way to make it official with you, I would defy the world to make that happen!”

The smile that appeared on Ryeowook’s lips then was the ghost of sadness.

It wasn’t the first time he heard Kyuhyun talk about wanting to make things official between them, and fate could have also brought them together, however, the odds were just so unfavourable to them as their roles and the narrow-minded society in which they lived couldn’t allow it.

Ryeowook promptly circled Kyuhyun’s neck with both arms, drawing him even closer, wanting to let him feel – skin against skin – that his own heart was crazily beating like the very first time. It would never cease to, if he could avoid it.

“You’re my world, Cho Kyuhyun,” he softly whispered in Kyuhyun’s ear, while the other softly chuckled, moving just the right amount so they could comfortably fall against the pillows once more.

Kyuhyun lifted the sheets and allowed Ryeowook and himself to quietly nestle in the middle of the large bed, one in the arms of the other, when he started humming one of his songs as a lullaby to Ryeowook.

“When I quietly look at you I remember all those countless days,”

Kyuhyun began singing, making Ryeowook shiver as he held his head against the former’s chest, carefully listening to all the notes vibrating through Kyuhyun’s ribcage as he sung the first verses of one of his oldest solo songs: One Confession.

“The mornings and nights that were all about you Now it’s become a habit,”

It was a song dedicated to an unrequited love that could never come to be, however the smaller hints at how the singer – in this case Kyuhyun himself – sung of the sweet memories he had of his lover, the small little things that would remind him of them, were becoming an addictive habit.

And it summed up how Kyuhyun had felt about his relationship with Ryeowook so well.

“I’m getting coloured with you Even your pain is becoming mine Words that I couldn’t bear to say I love you so much that I have to hide those words…”

Ryeowook quietly fell asleep against his boyfriend’s warm body, lulled by the harmonious voice that he loved so much and whose last words unfortunately he couldn’t remember, while he slowly drifted into a dreamless sleep.

Because that love confession that was so hard to express for the singer in the song, due to his love interest not reciprocating his feelings, was even harder for Kyuhyun to voice out. No one could know. No one could judge. Therefore his love – their love – was better covered in lies and hidden from the prying eyes of their audience.

“There will be a day, when we will be able to love each other in the open,” Kyuhyun whispered in the night, as he held his sleeping beauty and kissed him goodnight on the forehead.
