77-2448 - Sweating in the loo
Now that I look at this sketch I can see that my perspective is not quite right. Never mind, I enjoyed sketching and painting the bright colours of various cleaning products, even if it was really hot and sweaty while I sat in our smallest bathroom and drew this. Mon-21-Aug-2023

It was my first time to visit the "Museo Ng Pampangulong Sasakyan" in Quezon City Memorial Circle last Saturday. I was there to attend the Urban Sketchers Kyusi exhibit opening and workshop. I did a rough sketch on site (but finished this at home, because the weather is so humid that day) The National Historical Commission of the Philippines was planning to open a museum to house the presidential cars of former Philippine Presidents as early as 2013. The NHCP secured a location for the museum when it signed a memorandum of agreement with the local government of Quezon City. The city provided at least 3,000 square meters (32,000 sq ft) of space for the museum. The land within the Quezon Memorial Circle where the museum was built was formerly occupied by basketball and volleyball courts which was moved to another part of the park at the NHCP's expense. Special thanks to @urbansketcherskyusi For organizing the event #RavenFox13 #UrbanSketch #urbansketching #UrbanSketcherKyusi #MuseoNgPampangulongSasakyan #Tombow #TombowPh #kyusisketchers #UrbanSketcher #usk @urbansketchers (at Presidential Car Museum) https://www.instagram.com/p/B9gfqv_nXuA/?igshid=1jgos45vrren

84-2626 - Telling our own stories
This is a sketch that I did during the Q&A and talks on the first day of the #UskQuezonCity Tagpuan Sa QC event, with the Executive Board of Urban Sketchers (Global). We held the first session at the social hall at the back of the Quezon Heritage House in QC Memorial Circle. Sat-16-Mar-2024

83-2614 - Manila Catheral
This is the first sketch I did after the initial talk of Enrique Flores at the ICM workshop on Saturday. Enrique gave us 40 tips on sketching, one of which was about including people to give a sense of scale – so I deliberately included the crowds outside the Cathedral. For a change I also masked off the edges of this sketch before painting (instead of using a wobbly line)…got to get some washi…

80-2531 - Oh my gulay
Here is another sketch I did in Baguio…again taking photos of each step in an effort to show how I sketch. The truth is though, that I am usually not quite so careful and just launch into the sketch without any ‘construction’ lines…that’s why I often miss out the top of a tall building or find what I am sketching disappearing off the edge of the page! This one is done in my favourite restaurant…

77-2462 - Makati greens
Today we got our printer/scanner back (after repairs), so I can scan and post some of my backlog of sketches. It was about a week ago that we went into Makati – my wife attending a (long) meeting and me taking the printer in for repairs. I had quite a bit of free time so took advantage and had my own little #SketchWalk around Makati. This is the first sketch I did sitting outside Starbucks along…

75-2406 - Four hours before departure
This is my first sketch on our trip to the UK for a holiday. The airline told us we should be at the airport four hours before departure – presumably because the queues at check in and immigration have been terrible recently. That meant we had to get up at 3am! Luckily it didn’t actually take us that long to get to the gate, so I had time to sketch. This lady had the right idea at that time in…

74-2390 - Airport sketch - bits of people and phones
I have not posted for a while as I have been travelling and super-busy with meetings and field visits. However I have still managed to squeeze in a few sketches. Here is one I did at the airport in Manila before leaving late at night last Saturday. These people kept on changing position, so I ended up sketching just bits of them. Sat-3-Jun-2023

73-2361 - Our Lady of the Holy Rosary, Sagay
Here is another sketch from our Camiguin ’Visita Igesia’. This was the first church we visited – and it’s supposed to be the oldest church on the island, being established in 1882. I forgot to scan and post this sketch because I had thought it needed more work… but it’s too late for that now. Fri-7-Apr-2023

73-2362 - San Roque Parish Cartarman
I am going back to some unfinished sketches that have been languishing in my sketchbook. On good Friday (7th April) when we were in Camiguin we went round and did a ‘Visita Iglesia’ (Spanish for church visit) a practice in the Philippines of visiting and praying in at least seven churches during Holy Week. We didn’t make it to that many – but managed three. This was the second one we went…

73-2359 - Casa Bella Vista
Here is another painting from our trip to Camiguin. This one was done in the house that we stayed in. I just added some colour the other day. Thu-6-Apr-2023

72-2358 - Azotea de Salcedo Resto-bar
Here is another sketch that has been languishing partly finished in my sketchbook. This one was done after we had been to Mantigue Island offshore from Camiguin. We had dinner at a little resto-bar right at the drop off point of the port. To the left is an all essential karaoke machine. Thu-6-Apr-2023

71-2329 - Late worker
Here is another sketch I did on my little visit to Greenbelt Mall in Makati. This one was done at the Coffee Bean and Tea Leaf. I finished this off quickly as I think he realised I was sketching him! Thu-16-Mar-2023

74-2382 - Another elephant
Yesterday I finally got outside to sketch …while I chatted to my friend @TheArtOfBeingPresent …though it was a bit of a rush to finish before it got dark. This (concrete?) elephant is one of two sitting at the entrance to the club house in our common area. Thu-18-May-2023

73-2377 - Bedroom
Here is a peek into our bedroom (which is dominated on one wall by some boxed in ducts from the extractor fan in the bathroom…what a wonderful piece of architectural design!) from the living room. At least it gives me those shadows to sketch. Wed-10-May-2023

73-2375 - Coronation sketch
Here is a sketch I did while I watched King Charles’s coronation. I am not a big fan of the UK royal family – especially when the taxpayer has to stump up more than 100 million pounds to pay for the fairly pointless event (during a cost of living crisis). Given that Charles is worth more than 1.8 billion pounds himself, I think he could of chipped in a bit. Nevertheless it was an historic…
