Family Movie Club 19 June 2023
Last week's category: Director - Jean Pierre Melville
Last week's movie: Army of Shadows (L'armée des Ombres) 1969 / 8.1 IMdB score
Thoughts: A cold hard look at what political revolution is like. There are no heros. There are no good guys. There is only the enemy and what you can do to defeat them. It is unflinching in its violence and unmerciful in its story. I enjoyed it, though in the style of most French movies they could have cut half an hour out and lost nothing.
My rating: 8/10
This week's category: Wild Card (no voting) - Juneteenth
This week's movie: Amistad 1997 / 7.3
I will let y'all know my thoughts after we discuss it!

reading blu-ray dot com forums while i wait for my manager to respond to me
Once upon a time so would I: L'Armee des Ombres is my favorite also - it might even be my favorite film if I ever settled on one - but their Blu had a slight green push that I could see them doubling down on disastrously after seeing the Serpico trailer. And to think, in the pre-Ritrovita days, restorations used to be a cause for rejoicing rather than a constant worry that they'd go through the pea soup and piss filters to look like some colorblind colorist's idea of what they should look like if made today rather than what they actually did.
Given that L'immagine rovinata clearly neither care about nor are capable of responding to criticism, you would at least reckon that the commissioning/releasing labels would be on the qui-vive for their characteristic "product". But no.....
The new restoration of Jacques Rivette's The Nun also has a serious case of Ritrovitus, it's baffling that these releases are being given the green light, or should I say, the teal light.
You'd better avoid Criterion's Ritrivitad Muriel ou le Temps d'un Retour, then: the white walls are so green it's a miracle that they didn't regrade the white horse to match. Poor that it is, I stuck with Eureka's DVD.
apparently L’Immagine Ritrovata is notorious for this lmfao... i hate this EARTH
