I am the kind of person who goes to a party and ends up getting into a disagreement over whether Berlioz!Faust and Marguerite ever actually manage to have sex (they absolutely do, the duet they sing in part 3 basically represents it*).

I am also the kind of person who goes to the kind of parties where this conversation is likely to happen, so that's nice for me.

*The duet ends with him singing "viens, viens" and her singing "ah, je meurs" so like. Yeah. I am, however, open to the possibility that Faust doesn't actually get to finish before Mephistopheles interrupts them.

#it was mostly university people who are also symphony enthusiasts #one of whom complains to me about the acoustics of our venue every time i see her #hot faust summer #la damnation de faust #less crassly it's not clear how much time is supposed to have elapsed between the trio and 'd'amour l'ardente flamme'#so they certainly could have sealed the deal later in any event #he has to have given her the sleeping potion for her mother at some point as well
