Ohoo’s decision to offer Maury’s Bagels, pastries (scones, cookies, croissants) from Oh La La Bakery, and coffee from LA roaster, La Mill, shows a commitment to quality. The milk tea is made with premium loose leaf tea (the teas are brewed but the drinks are made to order), whole milk, and housemade furit purees. The taiyaki is made to order.
For drinks, choose from fruit tea, premium milk tea, classic milk tea, ice blended drinks, espresso drinks, and drip coffee. You can specify the sweetness level. Add-ins include brown sugar boba, popping boba, jellies, and aloe vera. No grass jelly or crystal boba. If you order a drink, you can add a taiyaki for $2 (regular price is $3).
Red bean taiyaki: served super hot, had a nice chewy mochi consistency. The red bean filling was very hot. The taiyaki had crispy edges. Felt like there wasn’t enough filling. Also, the filling has never been that hot before (when I ordered taiyaki from other places that also make the taiyaki to order)
Red bean organic assam milk tea ($6.49): The drink didn’t have much red bean and the tea flavor (assam) wasn’t strong. The red bean was at the bottom of the drink and didn’t add much flavor to the drink. The milk tea wasn’t as creamy as usual.
Seniors (65 and up) enjoy a 15% discount. The shop has limited seating and seems to attract high school kids. There are three small tables and a counter with seating.

Great day for a ride. I was feeling a little under the weather, so I was glad just to finish. Beautiful sunny day. Day Light Savings hits tonight, so we’ll rolling into the fall.
We rolled east through Pasadena and all the way around the edges up all…

The motel is the site of many film scenes, from the X-files to glee to Mad Men to Supernatural. The motel was never given any historic designation despite its age, which allowed it to be sold to develop apartments (taking out a residential property next door too). But I believe that we can change that.
The plan:
Update the IMDB page for the hotel to include more of it’s appearances in film. This gives us more leverage to argue against its demolition (This can be done by anyone with a computer and the ability to research).
People in the area of the hotel (La Crescenta, CA, United States) are encouraged to voice their opposition to the deal to their government. It was done without a community vote, which pisses a lot of people off. California has a hybrid government — part representative democracy, part DIRECT democracy — so if were quick, we could make this a ballot issue. Right now, many people are taking a defeatist attitude to the whole thing, saying the deal is already done.
Inform the current owner of other financially viable strategies that would preserve the hotel. This might involve convincing them to apply for historic significance with the historic society.
Sweet Demi Lune, 3600 Ocean View Blvd, La Crescenta-Montrose, CA 91208
Sweet Demi Lune, a French style viennoiserie, recently opened in downtown Montrose. There isn’t much variety yet – baked goods include croissants, cookies, tarts, and beverages, but their butter croissants are heavenly. Everything looked delicious.
Butter croissant ($4): a big, flaky, buttery treat. Crumbs fell off with every bite. The layers of pastry were paper thin and the exterior was light, crispy, and butter. The interior was softer.
Kouign amann ($3.75): relatively inexpensive and smaller than the croissant. The top was caramelized but the bottom was not. The combination of buttery layers and caramelized sugar was delicious but I think the KA needed more caramelization.
There’s a 3% surcharge for credit cards. Parking was easy to find in the public parking lot. The interior looked clean and bright but there wasn’t much décor.
Snow in Southern California A powerful late-February storm brought blizzard warnings, cold rains, howling winds, and rare low-elevation snow to parts of southern California more accustomed to warmth and sun. The Operational Land Imager-2 (OLI-2) on Landsat 9 acquired this image (lower image) of snow blanketing much of the San Gabriel Mountains in areas north of Los Angeles on February 26, 2023. The other image (top) shows the same area on February 10, 2023, before the storm. High-elevation areas saw blizzard conditions and large accumulations. A ski resort at an elevation of 7,000 feet recorded nearly 8 feet (2 meters) of snow, according to National Weather Service data. At lower elevations (5,000 - 6,000 feet), Mount Wilson, Lockwood Valley, and Frazier Park saw between 1-3 feet. Even low-elevation areas where snow is uncommon saw substantial accumulation. Two inches fell in La Crescenta (elevation 2,000 feet), a suburban community north of Los Angeles. Closer to sea level, Beverley Hills saw 6 inches of rain, and downtown Los Angeles saw 4 inches. While the rare sight of snow delighted many people, the storm also brought disruption and damage. The Associated Press reported snarled traffic and several road closures including Interstate 5, a major highway that leads out of Los Angeles to the north. Thousands of homes lost power, and several streams flooded. NASA Earth Observatory images by Lauren Dauphin, using Landsat data from the U.S. Geological Survey. Story by Adam Voiland.
