PH GOVERNMENT CONTINUES ATTEMPTS TO DESTROY FREEDOM OF SPEECH AND RIGHT TO INFORMATION UNDER MARCOS PRESIDENCY
Tumblr media
Rappler is a digital media company that was founded by Maria Ressa, a Nobel Peace Prize Laureate. Maria Ressa is a hero that has fought and continues to fight for the Philippines despite everything and everyone who's tried to put her and her team down.
She was a lead investigative journalist in CNN Southeast Asia who was critical of Rodrigo Duterte's "War on Drugs". She was also falsely accused of cyber libel and tax evasion on several accounts, because our government has been repeatedly trying to shut her down and control information, the same government that is led by a man who LIES AND REFUSES TO PAY 203 BILLION IN ESTATE TAX DEBT. THE SAME GOVERNMENT THAT REFUSES TO PUT IMELDA MARCOS IN JAIL BUT WILL HAPPILY JAIL A STARVING 70+ YR OLD MAN FOR STEALING A FRUIT.
Rappler is not the first victim of this, and it will not be the last. Please please please share what is happening in the Philippines, this could happen in your country one day.

My heart is heavy,
As if loads of rock tugged me down,
But no rock can ever stop a hopeful heart from beating,
'Cause an encouraging crowd is fighting with me.

hi its me after days of election breakdown im back to give my 2cents about this whole clownery
I am telling you now that if you click that read more there's going to be a long rant ahead, but at the same time please do read and spread awareness, we badly need it
Philippine Election 2022 is a joke
In the first place Bongbong Marcos SHOULDN'T even be allowed to file COC for this election. You're telling me someone who has a lot of cases against him eligible to run for the highest position in our country? What a fucking joke.
but ofc because of their connections all of the appeal for his disqualification were trashed and he was allowed to run.
Despite all that you would think that Filipinos would be in their right mind and not vote someone who's a criminal and doesn't have a concrete platform nor credentials right?
lmao wrong
I don't blame them, this is the result of years of whitewashing and manipulation of information in our textbooks. People were made to believe that Martial Law was a golden era. If you want to know the truth, you have to dig deeper yourself.
Still, the youth is woke and wouldn't vote for him right?
That's right but democracy is a fucking joke here
People in comelec (commission on election), were appointed by our current president. Said president is the father of bbm's vice president, Sarah Duterte. Aside from this Imme marcos, bbm's sister, also hold a position there.
So you see how much of an advantage they have
Unfortunately it doesn't end there. Let me list some of the things that happened during the election
There were a lot of broken VCMs. People were made to make a decision to either wait or leave their balots to the people there
For those who waited for the SD cards they were waiting FOR HOURS, I even saw places who stayed for more than 24hrs just to exercise their right to vote.
People were killed and there were evidences and reports of vote buying
Despite having a very slow connection, the partial and unofficial count came so fast. And don't even get me started on the consisted 47% they have showed throughout the count (a straight linear graph? seriously?) and them saying that they see nothing wrong with it
and so many more
But still Comelec has the audacity to say that this election was peaceful? what a load of crap
You know what's more annoying about this whole thing? International articles
Why do they gotta emphasized the landslide? Why do they make it seem that all of us wanted this? I know we're clowns right now, we're the whole fucking circus yes. But this country didn't just stand down and took it.
As if there weren't protests about the whole thing
As if it really was clean democracy that made this whole thing happen
I would love to be proven wrong. I would like to swallow all my words during this election period and say to his supporters "you were right his a decent leader, maybe i judged him hastily" but if we were right and this country goes even more downhill, I am taking everyone of you accountable
That being said, I encourage everyone to please spread awareness. Many are already being red-tagged (red-tagging, for those who don't know, refers to the malicious blacklisting of individuals or organizations critical or not fully supportive of the actions of a sitting government administration in the country. This can lead to an individual being killed.) Our country is on the brink of being under martial law once again. Bbm hasn't even won yet but violence is already prevailing to the people trying to speak up.
and for my fellow Pinoys. Hanggat hindi pa tapos ang bilangan may pag-asa pa. Hanggat alam natin na hindi tama ang nangayayari tayo'y lalaban
Oo, kay hirap at sakit mahalin ng Pilipinas. Nakakasawa at nakakapagod ipagkaban kasi parang paulit-ulit nalang. Ngunit wag tayong titigil, ipagpalalaban pa din. Magpapahinga pero hindi susuko
never again
dont ever forget

I will never regret voting for you, VP Leni Robredo and Sen. Kiko Pangilinan. With clean conscience, I can say that I supported the good among the evils and lesser evils.
No matter what the final and official results yield, I know I did the right thing.
Maraming salamat, VP Leni at Sen. Kiko. 🇵🇭

Outside our house, there is this huge tree that bears pink flowers. My niece pointed it out to me many years ago when she came to visit, grinning as she told me about them. I pass by that tree every day when I take a few minutes to go out of the house and walk and in the last few weeks, I’ve gazed at it more and more in reflection.
Growing up in the Philippines made me a cynic when it came to politics. My family doesn’t really like talking about it. We mind our own business, which I think is typical of how many Filipino-Chinese were raised - you keep your head down and take care of yourself. Growing up and seeing the continued deterioration of our political landscape made me think that nothing was going to change even if every election, candidates who ran promised this.
Why bother registering to vote? What does my one vote do? Will it count?
Those thoughts were perpetually in my head when I reached the eligible age to register.
This election cycle, I finally took a stand. Being apathetic is part of the problem and if I don’t exercise my right, it makes me part of the problem. It took my siblings and I four tries before we were able to successfully register, getting up at varied hours in the early morning. The day we were successfully able to do so, we went to the mall at 4 in the morning to get a slot. There is an undercurrent of fear that rolls through my body at the thought that after May 9, our country will continue to regress, that the rampant spreading of fake news and revisionist history has already done its damage but a part of me still feels hope because despite all the hate and negatively being thrown around, there is still some light that can been seen at the distance, some notion that even with all this uncertainty, love and hope will prevail. I see it in friends who I talk to about the upcoming election, in little street kids who chat me up because they saw the sticker on my car, in volunteers who devote their time, energy and talents to campaign, in thousands of fellow Filipinos showing up to support one another, not tear each other apart.
My one vote counts because it is mine and in races which may be tight, one vote can spell the difference.
My vote is not for sale and on May 9, I cast it in hopes that it will be one step towards real change.
Sana masilayan nating lahat ang kulay rosas na bukas.

Eleksyon 2022!
Call me crazy, but I cried a little when I read my voting receipt. This is how it feels pala! Voting for someone you actually believe in. What a foreign concept. I feel like I have been drifting through life turning up in my precinct (and my old grade school) every few years to vote the lesser evil, until someone actually fit to be president came along.
What a roller coaster. Hindi man ako pumunta sa rallies (mga Takot sa Tao for Leni), it still feels good to be part of a revolution, a part of history. Highs: the spirit of volunteerism palpable, seeing an organic support base quadruple before your very eyes. Lows: unfriending people, especially close friends you no longer see eye to eye with. This campaign period is like no other, it's history in the making, and there is no one else who has inspired this kind of difference, this hunger for truth and real change (not the fake one that the older Duterte sold to 16 million Filipinos in 2016), than a widow from Naga.
The las time I prayed this fervently, my grandfather was on his deathbed. Last night I was wide awake, for the first time since becoming a voter in 2009 excited to come to the polls, and I whispered a disclaimer to God "Ok I know I have not prayed in a while..." I'm no longer religious, but I still believe, and I cannot imagine a world where a righteous God would allow a prayerful country go through another Marcos in power. The Philippines is waking from its stupor. Hope springs.

I am once again interrupting your feed...
I am once again apologizing for the sudden unusual content that is unusual on my dash but please spare me for this day.
We, as a country, is on the verge of collapsing without knowing that we are this 👌 close on breaking down.
Vote counts are suspiciously consistent, vote counting machine getting errors out of nowhere, friendships and families are getting snapped because of political views, and adults enjoying the suffering of the young ones because their chosen candidate won (unofficially) and the candidate with better background is the one behind.
This will be my last post about topics that does not include either SPN, Hannibal, cats, or memes. For Now.
Anyway,
Please continue your scrolling and thank you for taking your time to read my nonsense.

I know I promised to write after midterms week, and I really want to write something. If I can I want to write three fics at once because I miss it so much
But unfortunately our country's situation is bad so I can't. I'm sorry but though I tried, I can't focus on anything else right now. Hence why I'm probably going to be inactive for a while
So I'm going to focus on my country first because our future is in danger. Yes, there's hope for the official count hasn't been tallied yet, still, there's already so much red tagging that's happening to my fellow pinoys
If you can, I'm asking you to please spread the news of what's going on here, help us let the world know.
