Nimoo is a dancer in a traditional Ladakhi group. Ladakhi people have a beautiful culture that shares similarities with their Tibetan neighbors. The Ladakhi traditional outfits are some of the most sophisticated in the world. Nimoo’s shoes, for example, are called pabu and are made of woven yak hair. Her headdress is called perak and is studded with gemstones, being passed down from mother to daughter. I took this photo in Leh, Northern India, last year.

I don't get it, how come no one is talking about the HUGE protest in Ladakh (easily the most beautiful place on earth) for it to be governed by ITS OWN PEOPLE and not by ministers in the centre who have no idea about or refuse to accept the demands of local people. Like they just don't want their homes to be destroyed by industrialists. Is that too much to ask for?
On February 3rd, 10% of its population were out on streets protesting. 10%. If this happened somewhere else, then it would be flooding the news, but like, no one cares when those people are the ones to fight with the Indian army?

Okk so just random thoughts i had while i was repeatedly listening to empire now by hozier i am not sure if anyone will read this but will still add hastags in hope of finding people who i can maybe talk with
The lyrics go so well with the current situation of the world i mean i know it was written about the irish independence but the lyrics resonate to me so much about palastine and the current situation of manipur and kashmir and every place going through oppression around the world i was hoping for some edits for palstine to pop up on this song but sadly saw none and not only plastine it goes so well with the stories of so many places taking in the example the native americans or may it be the british colonisation in india the song was written for the hearts of all the people who at one point of time saw what it was like to not have what was their's.
Some of my thoughts with these lyrics
The lyrics
"Sun coming up on a dream come 'round
One hundred years from the empire now"
Made me think how the current comforts i have and live with right now, the peace and freedom that i can enjoy was something my ancestors fought for it was a dream for them which let me have it their struggle in the past has brought the privilege i have in the present and now the same comforts i am enjoying is a dream for the people in palestine fighting for their land, it is a dream for the people i manipur of my very own country whose people are bleeding it is a dream for the people of ladakh who are losing their land to industrial plants while i sit here writing all these are people bleeding, straving, fighting, struggelling to keep what is THEIR'S.
Rightfully so.
"Darling, I wouldn't sell the world
The way that things are turning
If it falls
I would hold on for all it's worth"
These lines remind of how in the past my ancestors found the land that was exploited, that the land they were refused to have freedom on was deemed unusable that the west had deemed backward, the land the west had pride on occupying, and still found for it cause it
WAS THEIR LAND
It made me think of all the people who are making sure to keep records of the truth of what is happening in the world like bisan, before oct 7th i never knew who she was now i check for her updates just to know she is alive to know what is going on in gaza and always hoping for some positive news to come the fact that i was blind to all this before 7th oct it took soo long for people to realise what is happening there makes me sad. It makes me mad at myself for not having learnt all this before. It made me think of sonam wangchuk who has been restlessly posting and fighting for the people of ladakh for their demands to be heard for them to get what they require and deserve.
"The future's so bright it's burning"
I took this one line separately cause when i hear this one particular line unlike the others i can't make a connection to the past i only connect with my worry for what the future has in hold, is mother naturw going to surivive that long will we humans kill each other till no one is there to exist just cause me hate each other and keep finding differences among ourself even though at the end of the day we are all human i don't know i feel like we are just killing our future not letting it to stay and we will be the reason our earth will end.
"Martyrs of our revolution
Their spinning caused the earth to shake"
Today even after years have passed from our freedom struggle we remember the names of the brave hearts that fought for our country that gave their blood sweat and tears in hopes of seeing a freeland there are so many people who were involved in the struggle and their names have become immortal even after them passing away
In the same manner the names of the people who are now struggling for freeing palestine will become immortal in the future while it may seem like there is no impact from them the content they have put up and are continuing to put up is the record of history and what the future generations will be learning about cause they are the true heros
Bisan
Motaz azaiza
Plestia alaquad
Saleh jafarawani
And many more names are the ones keeping palestine alive right now for the very existence of the palestine people is making the earth shake cause for them existence is resistance.
In the same manner sonam wangchuk is keeping ladakh alive, who is letting us know how the people are and what they are doing putting forward peoples demands and educating people about it this man is not only a person but is an educational reformed and teacher to us and hope for the people his name should be one that should remain in history.
"The problem brought its own solution
They power now the world we've made"
It has happened in the past the one who colonised thought they were doing a favor by solving the problems of the people who were captive when really them leaving would have been the greatest gift and it's happening in the present with isreal acting as if they are the one that actually own the land they don't and influctung suffering on the indigenous palestine people as if they have any damn right to do so they don't they never had they never will they are the problem and they cannot play the victim.
"Sun coming up on a world that's easy now"
The sun is shining on us all who are now comfortably sitting in our homes enjoying the freedom we have my ancestors dreamed of this world for their future generations, today i am the future generation who is living it in the same way the people of palestine and people of ladakh and the people of manipur are going through the struggle so that some day in the future the sun will shine for the same comforts i am living in
I really wanted to write a bit more about manipur but from what i have researched i only know the conflict has not ended but other then that i have no information while i was only able to write about what i know i want to dedicate this to all the people who are suffering and i pray for a peacful world.

"As an environmentalist, I am very concerned about the fragile and sensitive ecosystem of Ladakh,” said Magsaysay Award-winning educationist Sonam Wangchuk, who recently concluded his 21-day hunger strike in Leh. Popularly known as 'climate fast', Wangchuk had begun observing it on 6 March, demanding constitutional safeguards for Ladakh.
On the final day of his fast on 26 March, Wangchuk said that the people of Ladakh are trying to awaken the conscience of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Home Minister Amit Shah so that they take suitable action to safeguard the fragile ecosystem of Himalayan mountains in Ladakh and preserve the unique indigenous tribal culture.
“We don’t like to think of Modi ji and Amit Shah ji as just politicians, we would rather think of them as statesmen but for that, they will have to show some character and farsightedness…” he posted on X.
Wangchuk had become the face of a sustained agitation in the cold desert where people are up in arms against the central government for discarding their concerns regarding land and job rights.
"Every drop of water is important here. Ladakh can't support large numbers. It will make refugees out of locals and even for those who arrive, the situation would not be any good. That's the fear people have regarding the fate of our land and our culture – finely tuned over tens or even thousands of years to survive in these mountains, now at risk of dilution and unable to sustain itself,” he added.
However, this was not the first time that Wangchuk had undertaken a climate fast:
In January 2023, he undertook a five-day climate fast at his institution, the Himalayan Institute of Alternatives (HIAL) in Ladakh at -20 degrees Celsius.
In June 2023, Wangchuk again went on a nine-day climate fast to save "Ladakh’s fragile ecology."
The Ecological Connection to Ladakh’s Demands
Ladakh is a high-altitude desert inhabited by around 3 lakh people. The region is considered ecologically fragile due to its extreme climate conditions, scarce vegetation, and limited water resources. Most people are dependent on agriculture as a means of livelihood.
A separate territory was a long-pending demand of the Ladakhis but they were expecting one with constitutional safeguards – somethingthat was categorically denied by the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP)-led government earlier this month.
Their land and job rights were taken away with the Abrogation of Article 370 on 5 August 2019, and the region was thrown open to people from other states.
Sensing that New Delhi is not in any mood to extend the Sixth Schedule that would safeguard the region and grant limited autonomy to the tribal region, the engineer-turned-educational reformer had announced a "climate fast” back in 2023 in a bid to turn attention towards the region's delicate ecology.
Speaking to The Quint, Wangchuk said that global warming has been melting glaciers in the Himalayan region where Ladakh is located. He also added that shifting weather patterns are resulting in frequent flash floods, landslides, and droughts that are impacting the lives of people living in the sparsely populated villages of the region.
"We are protesting to safeguard the mountains of the Himalayan region from indiscriminate exploitation and mining which have already wreaked havoc in places like Uttarakhand, Himachal Pradesh, and even Sikkim. All these activities are now poised to impact Ladakh,” he added.
Wangchuk’s Relentless Efforts To Save Ladakh: The ‘Third Pole’ of the Planet
Lately, the glaciers are receding fast and many sectors in Northern India rely on them.
Wangchuk said that Ladakh, which is home to an extensive glacial system, is known as the "Third pole of the planet." It feeds two billion people directly or indirectly.
"If mining industries are introduced in these areas, not only will the local communities suffer, but the entire Northern Indian plains will face water shortages. Therefore, it is crucial that we safeguard these fragile regions as sacred zones of water,” he said.
"For the local people, it's about protecting their region, customs, culture, and land –all of which are enshrined in the Sixth Schedule of the Constitution, as our forefathers have established 75 years ago," Wangchuk added.
Back in 2015, Wangchuk had invented the 'Ice Stupa', an artificial glacier created by piping mountain streams to tackle the water crisis in Ladakh which faces water scarcity in April-May – the peak farming season.
Since then, the farmers in Leh have benefitted from such Ice Stupas.
Not only that, in 2021, Wangchuk whose life inspired a character in the Bollywood movie 3 Idiots, developed an eco-friendly solar-heated tent that Army personnel can use in extremely cold places like Siachen and Galwan Valley in the Ladakh region.
How Will the Sixth Schedule Save Ladakh’s Ecology?
For the Sixth Schedule to be applicable, the Constitution mandates that a region's population must consist of at least 50 percent of tribal communities. In Ladakh, around 97 percent of its population are tribals.
Wangchuk asserted that they are trying to do everything possible to safeguard the mountains.
"The Sixth Schedule of Article 244, which gives safeguards to these regions, the people, and their cultures where they can determine how these places should be developed without interference from others,” he said. "This is what Ladakh has been demanding for a long time before it was made into a Union Territory (UT)," he added.
Notably, the Sixth Schedule contains provisions that grant indigenous tribes significant autonomy, enabling the establishment of Autonomous District Councils (ADCs) with legislative and judicial authority. These councils are empowered to enact regulations concerning various aspects such as land, forest, water, agriculture, health, sanitation, mining, and beyond.
"That was our hope which later turned into uncertainty when the government, as generously as it granted Union Territory status to Ladakh, promised that Ladakh would be safeguarded under the Sixth Schedule but did not fulfil it,” Wangchuk said.
He further argued that if Ladakh is left free for all with no safeguards, there will be mining companies coming. "We hear often they are scouting the mountains and valleys," Wangchuk said, adding that people are apprehensive that huge hotel chains will come up, each potentially bringing in thousands of visitors, that will pose threats to the dry desert ecology of Ladakh.
'The BJP Needs To Keep Its Promise’
Wangchuk said that the BJP needs to fulfil its promise that they made during the 2019 Lok Sabha Elections regarding the “Declaration of Ladakh under the Sixth schedule of the Indian Constitution."
"It's like giving a cheque and if the cheque bounces, then we don't care. Hence, what happens to Ladakh with this promise will set a precedent to the rest of India in all elections to come whether leaders can just say anything and not care later and also get away with it,” he added.

DON'T VOTE FOR MODI. PLEASE!!!
I am having to make an effort at writing a coherent post instead of just screaming. Please don't vote for Modi.
He is not a saviour. He is not a God.
Here's what he is: A terrified extremist who has to maim the mainstream media to keep his support, who NEEDS to plunder the Hindu Muslim divide in India, and spread hate and fear about communities that can very peacefully coexist, in order to gain people's support, to be seen as an saviour for upper caste Hindus in India. He needs to shut down the internet, so many times that India had the largest internet shutdowns in the past year, to shut the voices of people. He is the leader of the party that drafted a bill that would maintain stringent control over OTT platforms, the only free and accessible source for information in India at this point, AFTER THEY SUSPENDED 140 MEMBERS OF OPPSN. Who maintains silence over protesters of his own country being attacked by tear gasses and pellets, who welcomes RAPISTS into his party.
And a lot of his actions suggest that he will bring dictatorship in India.
Here's what a lot of you are going to say: OMG, what is the other opinion, Rahul 'Pappu' Gandhi? Well, sorry to inform you guys, but India (fortunately) is not a two party system. It is a MULTIPARTY nation. There are a lot many options. vote for your MP's, who you think will have your voices heard.

See this needle??
It's located in the Ladakh area, in the western part of the Himalayas near the border of India, Pakistan and China. It didn't have a name and nobody had ever climbed it.
Until now! Basque climbers Joseba Iztueta and Ekaitz Maiz recently managed to reach the summit at 5,760m by opening a new climbing route of around 1,500m. Not having a name, and wanting to give the needle some Basque meaning they decided to name it Amaiur Peak.
And they didn't stop at that! They opened 16 climbing routes more in this area of the Himalayas that will provide a lot of play for the next adventurers who visit the place, since they are all of a high level and require great skills.
Love this!!!
