Another kinda funny thought I have about the show is that, probably my biggest disappointment was the lack of Amity-ONLY episodes. I love Lamity, it's very cute, but I feel like hilariously, Amity has ended up basically not passing the Bechdel test. Willow had an episode, Gus had an episode, and I guess Amity probably had an episode, but it was most likely so related to either her parents or Luz that I missed it. It's odd to me that we never got an explanation of what exactly Luz means to Amity. Like... what did she see in her, in the first place? Why did her crush begin? Ya know? It really feels like there should have been an episode about that to give some depth to the relationship. So my fingers are crossed that in this final season, one of these episodes WILL be, "The Amity Episode." So with all that said, is there any way that we know of to support production?

GUYS. GUYS. IT'S SURVIVAL GAMES. IT'S SURVIVAL GAMES.

this is. Huge. this is very big for me. i'm not even mad that i'm wrong, because this could mean So many things. whatever they announce tomorrow surely has to be... more exciting than survival games, right? announcing a show you've run for three years is bit underwhelming after confirming one of the biggest and best mazes to be returning. obviously we knew survival games would come back, this was basically a shoe in - because how could you not? but i feel that, if you're the marketing team, you wouldn't drop something everybody loves so much and is so excited for, and then drop what is, let's be honest, a filler attraction. i love birthday bash, i love the characters and the plot and everything, but let's be honest with ourselves here. it's not survival games. it's not even trailers. like, it's not even close. plus, it's not a big year for fright nights this year - 22 doesn't pack as much punch as 20 or 21. so i understand it not returning. so this means i now have absolutely no idea what tomorrow or the rest of the week will bring. and that's so exciting! it could still be returning attractions, but i feel like if it is, that's maybe... a folly. but i don't particularly think they will do this though, from the experience of last year's teasers, they hit the order pretty well to build up the hype. this is how i made 99% of my predictions - what would be most surprising, most exciting. so tomorrow... who knows? certainly not me - i have no idea what will happen now, especially with survival games out of the way. it could be 3 days of new content. how exciting is that!! perhaps there'll be a new stage show for this year (or i really hope so, because i fucking love fright nights shows!!) i have no idea. i'm just purely speculating tonight, and i'm so so excited for it. this is what august is all about for me. because i'm a grotty little fright nights freak. still holding out hope for a buckwheat to kiss directly on the mouth. maybe in doors... we can only hope. 🩷

im gonna roughly liveblog my thoughts on The Owl House i think because i don't want to watch the whole show and forget it!!!

ep1 - A Lying Witch and a Warden I liked it! Intriguing sense of world building and scale. I like Eda. I had a few moments of "why the FUCK does she sound so familiar" and it's bc she's Chichi from The Emperor's New Groove. I loved the 180 on King's crown, that was very cute. I also like Luz' attitude, even if she feels very Main Character. I really like the dynamic between all the characters.

ep2 - Witches before Wizards Cute! I love how Eda stuck up for Luz even though she technically doesn't like her (or acts like it). If I was in Luz' shoes I absolutely would not have fallen for that. ... ..... ....... unless I was between the ages of 5-17. Then I absolutely would have.

ep 3 - I Was A Teenage Abomination I really liked this one. I love Luz's dynamics with willow. I really understand Willow's attempts to force herself into a school of magic she doesn't jive with. (speaking as someone who went to uni for robotics... when i was always an artist :P) I like Amity as well. I already know about .. Amiluz? Lamity? But it's great to see how they started. Also lol at Luz getting banned from school.

ep 4 - The Intruder Ooo, classic stay-at-home episode. This one was fun and surprisingly thrilling. The animation of the intruder lurching around the corner after King was so good, the whole chase scene was very animated. I definitely called that it was Eda. I wonder how she got that way. I wonder who the person in her dream is. It was also so cute to see how Luz deals with magic and how she found her own way. I wonder how she's going to learn more spells if she needs to know the symbol that witches seem to instinctively know.

ep 5 - Covention This one was interesting. Why would you want to join a coven only to seal away all other forms of your magic? Given that, I totally understand the appeal of the Emperor's Coven. I also loved the reveal of Lilith. I think she may be the one who cursed Eda. I also wonder why the Emperor's Coven wants Eda specifically. It must be separate from her curse. Current theory is Lilith cursed Eda bc Eda was more powerful than her. I also really liked the interactions with Luz and Amity. Boy howdy, as an immigrant do I ever understand how hard fitting in is in a new community when you don't know the social structures or even any of the social norms.

ep 6 - Hooty's Moving Hassle Very cute. Standard rebel plot. I love that they accidentally animated the whole house. Makes me wonder if Willow is actually much, MUCH stronger than most other witches or whether Luz has some innate incredibly powerful magic. I don't think it's Gus but specifically I don't think he's the type of character who has a slumbering power type of deal. Also, love the episode title. I like Eda's side-plot as well. I respect forgetting to refill your meds till the absolute last second.

ep 7 - Lost in Language Okay i REALLY liked this one. My favorite so far. I love the dynamic between Amity's siblings and Luz. I also really like that Luz has this strong sense of justice (even if she's easily won over, like in ep 6). I love the little laugh Amity had toward the end. And I also really like the fact that Amity feels like a rounded character. I bet she very much plays up this snobby brat when she's at school bc she's the Emp Coven's protege.

ep 8 - Once Upon A Swap This one was also fun. Felt like a bit of a filler episode but seeing Luz deal with having basically unlimited magical power was fun.

ep 9 - Something Ventured Someone Framed I liked this one as well. Further cements my idea that Gus isn't some sleeper agent type character. I did like the 'human appreciation' thing, and the rivalry between Gus and the new kid. Didn't really like the faux apology but it does very much track. I'm also so proud of Eda for getting over her anger at the school and The Man so that she worked really hard to get Luz accepted into the school. Can't wait to see what Luz can learn there.

Kaitlyn was the first to admit that sometimes - sometimes - she had a habit of taking things just a liiittle too far. It wasn't her fault, it was just...she was competitive, okay, and unfortunately for everyone around her, she wasn't always in total control of that competitive flare! So their little game of keep-away had started as a joke, yeah, that was...that was probably important to note, it just hadn't ended as a joke.

"Ugh, if I have to watch one more of Mr. H's weird safety videos, you guys are gonna have to make a whole new one about me, call it How To Avoid A Ka-Lamity," she had snickered, then reached over to take the remote from Abi, "c'mon, hand it over, let's see if this rickety old thing gets cable."

"Pretty sure we're supposed to watch this, though," Abi had said right back, then pulled her own arm way behind herself, holding the remote out of reach; there'd been a mischievous little smile too, Kaitlyn thought, inasmuch as Abi got mischievous, and that had been it - the game was on, and she was in it to win it!

It wasn't until they were both on the floor, Abi's eyes the size of dinner plates and her face twice as red as the ends of her hair, that Kaitlyn realized mayyybe pinning her like a backyard wrestler and straddling her hips wasn't how most people went about trying to change the channel.

Hey there! I'm not trying to start discourse or anything, your post about Amity just interested me where you said she doesn't really have any dedicated episodes and seems underdeveloped? I was just wondering why Eclipse Lake and the Bonesborough Brawl ep dont seem to count for you? Like I think Amity is actually a pretty well developed character, but I like character discussion! So I was hoping to hear your thoughts

Idk, I have a tough time pinpointing it. To be clear, I really like Amity, so maybe this is just my way of saying I wanted/want to see more of her? I remember the first time Lamity was hinted at where she was in the hallway and said "so we go to the same school now... that doesnt change anything" and I kinda knew it was coming so I pieced that together but I think it kind of came out of nowhere at that point. Afaik Amity's only positive interaction with Luz at that point was... defeating the books that had come alive together? So idk I just wish I maybe knew a little more about pre-Luz Amity other than her relationship to her elitist parents and how that affected her friendship w Willow.

I think I primarily feel like when we're hearing about Amity, its always something in relation to another character. It starts with Willow, then her parents, then Luz herself.

Even in Eclipse Lake Amity's big goal is to prove she is an awesome girlfriend (in relation to Luz), and she for sure gets development in that episode not to mention just generally being badass, I won't take that away from the show. And in Bonesborough Brawl I still really felt the emphasis was on Luz that episode. Like I said, I like Amity. I'm not gonna call her a bad character by any means. I think I just wish she got more.
