i’m always so fascinated by the dual natures of every lantern corps. i know a lot of GL fans rightfully don’t like the entity concept (and i hate parts of it myself for sure), but the exploration of emotions in their most primal states is something i just find so interesting. like despite writers depicting them as good or bad, i like that they’re technically all neutral because there is no moral application to emotions, the main reason it is in the comics is because it’s the most emotionally charged people to ever exist all fighting. like rage and love go so hand in hand, and one can argue that rage is born from love. a love for justice, a love for oneself, a love for people suffering (Atrocitus). you feel anger because it’s a secondhand emotion, it comes from pain of not being seen or understood or being failed or losing what’s dear to you. when their hearts are replaced by their rings which need constant anger to function, and that’s just the epitome of how sometimes anger is ALL you have, the only thing you allow yourself to feel if you want to survive. likewise, hope is so interesting to me. the way that blue lanterns will literally die if they lose hope, like it’s just a double edged sword that beautifully represents what hope actually is in real life. and the indigo tribe is one of the most obvious applications of neutrality given that they indoctrinate “bad people” like a cult and i really love that too. compassion means nothing if it’s forced or fake, it’s not kindness it’s being nice. and lastly the sinestro corps… arguably the only corps that’s shown fully antagonistic given that instilling fear is a self-serving action. and given what we know about bleez’s backstory, they commit a lot of crimes in the name of fear. but fear conversely is a survival tactic, it is the caution that keeps you alive, it’s not a bad thing to feel, and i think jessica’s arc really illustrates that. fear is something to move on from, but like all the others, it has its own merit.

The prompts for this one were pertaining to Lanterns (specifically Green Lanterns bc im obsessed and need help) and Kryptonians (specifically pertaining to physiology bc i have problems)

Kryptonians- -lets get into the weird kryptonian physiology. most of the time, people don't really notice the little things unless they look too closely, but kryptonians are just off enough that it freaks people out and they're a little wary of them. -kryptonians have an extra set of canines and their teeth are a bit longer and sharper than humans teeth. kryptonians have learned to talk and smile in ways that do not highlight those because its more than a little threatening when the 6'5" guy who is built like a brick house smiles widely and your prey senses activate. -their hair has a bluish tint, even kara's, which is blonde instead of black, so they frequently get asked (kon and kara at least) if their hair is dyed. -kryptonian eyes are weird as shit. those with blue eyes (really just clark and kara, who are pure kryptonians) are unnaturally blue and kinda creepy (kon has lex's green eyes and jon has lois's purple eyes). kryptonian eyes have a second eyelid that protects their eyes as well as opens when they use their various special visions. kryptonians cant see when theyre using their laser vision, but their eyes have the ability naturally to see ultraviolet and infrared light, so when they have their second eyelids open and are not using laser vision, they can see humans stripes! their second eyelids lubricate their eyes as well as protect them, so full kryptonians dont need to blink to lubricate their eyes. half kryptonians have to blink more than full kryptonians, but its still far less then humans do, about 3-4 times a minute instead of 15-20 times a minute on average. full kryptonians only blink about 1-2 times a minute, and mostly out of habit. they also have glowy eyes like cats when light hits them right -kryptonians dont need to breathe much, and sleep far less than humans because they derive energy from the sun. full kryptonians also dont really need to eat food, but they do so they can fit in, and half kryptonians need to eat almost more than humans do so they can fuel their kryptonian ability to absorb sunlight. -kryptonians dont have fingerprints like humans do. the tips of their fingers are completely smooth. their "fingerprints" are markings on their skin that are outside the spectrum of visible light that humans can see. -kryptonians have blood that is a darker purplish red, so they blush darker than humans do. they are also very warm to the touch like speedsters are since their blood absorbs and holds sunlight stores

Lanterns- -when lanterns power up, their eyes glow the color of their rings. you cant really tell with hal and kyle, who wear masks with white out lenses, bur john, guy, simon, jess, etc all have glowing green eyes. the lantern rings, when used for extended periods of time, and when worn over a long period of time, will gradually change the users body. before becoming lanterns, the characters have natural eye colors that they were born with, but after having worn their rings for a while, their normal eye color will shift to one closer to their lantern color. guys eyes change to a very pale green, hals to a green with gold sectoral heterochromia in his left eye, johns eyes become a hazel green, kyles were actually green to begin with, etc. carols eyes become a beautiful violet color. -use of the lantern rings will also dramatically alter the ageing of the user, and lanterns will begin having a hard time with their natural body rhythms since they move around through space so much with different time systems than their home planets. -The constructs that lanterns make have specific smells/tastes that they subconsciously choose. Hal’s constructs smell like pine sol, John’s smell like fresh cut grass, Guy’s green constructs smell and taste like rosemary and his red constructs smell and taste like hot sauce, Kyle’s constructs taste like green apple jolly ranchers, Alan’s taste like cucumber mint, Simon’s taste like lime, Jess’s smell and taste like cilantro, Keli’s taste like gamer fuel (mountain dew), Jo’s smell like new car -i think all green lanterns deserve to have a speedster friend but there arent enough speedsters who interact with GLs to go around :( anyway this is my petition for guy and bart to interact bc i think it'd be funny -hal and alan have the most tempestuous relationship (after guy and alan, i think, bc god the two of them are so different) but alan LOVES kyle and vice versa. kyle is like alans kid/grandkid depending on how old kyle is in relation to alan. -they basically all hate the guardians (except ganthet and sayd. kyle is ganthets little guy) -also literally none of them are straight. how can you be when not all aliens have male/female/boy/girl divides? aliens hot, man! -and most importantly, THEY ARE A FAMILY

He fretted when Jason came home, unnaturally quiet and obviously not in the mood for discussion, choosing to lock himself away in the small bathroom for a couple of hours, only the sound of hot, running water escaping beneath the locked door. He couldn’t help but sit on the edge of their bed and tap his foot nervously, halfway stopping after remembering the argument with the downstairs neighbor he’d had a few weeks ago because of the same thing. He didn’t want to mess with Jason’s routine when he had bad days, but he was somewhere between ready to unlock the door and calling Jason’s siblings when the door finally opened and for a moment, all Kyle could see was his lover’s outline while steam billowed from the bathroom.

Jason stepped out with a pair of boxers around his waist and a towel over his head, drying off the remnants of the hot water and Kyle couldn’t help but blanch at the sight of the already purpling bruises that bloomed across Jason’s ribs and back towards his spine. Kyle’s hands moved on their own, body shifting across the bed to splay his fingers on Jason’s bare torso, breathing, “Holy shit, what happened to you?”

“Got into a fight with a few of Joker’s thugs.”

“Usually, you don’t have a problem taking them out.”

Jason snorted. “There were more than a few heavies there, babe.” Kyle frowned, thumb brushing the sharp bone of Jason’s hip. “Hey,” he comforted, tossing the towel back into the bathroom, taking Kyle’s face in his hands. “I’m okay. It’s just a few bruises. They’ll be gone in a couple of days.”

Kyle made a noise in the back of his throat, a telltale sign that there was still worry welled up inside him; Jason bent down and pressed a kiss to his lips before pulling away and with a heavy groan, he put one knee in the bed before halfway collapsing down face first onto the mattress. He put his arms under his head and let out a grunt as every bone and muscle in his body relaxed all at once.

“I can’t feel my spine,” Jason muttered, letting out a chuckle as the twinge of pain flickered down his back. The weight disappeared from the bed, and he didn’t bother to watch as he listened to Kyle shuffling around the room, knocking around and gathering God knows what. That was, until the weight returned to the bed, dumped beside Jason, and then clambered on the back of his thighs.

He turned his head, peering at Kyle who was shifting to get comfortable for what seemed like was going to be a while. “What’re you doing?”

“Relaxing,” he simply answered.

“By sitting on me?”

“Like you don’t enjoy it when I do,” Kyle retorted and leaned over, grabbing something by Jason’s arm. “Don’t move too much,” was all he said before uncapping a dark blue paint and dripping it along Jason’s back.

Jason started shifting immediately. “Cold. Super cold paint.”

“Big baby.” Kyle grabbed one of the wash brushes and painted the expanse of Jason’s back, from his shoulders down to his lower back, but was careful to not touch the bruise—he was going to use that.

“What are you painting?”

“Dunno yet,” he replied. “Maybe go for something like Melody of the Night or Starry Night Over the Rhone.”

“I like the first one,” Jason murmured, laying cheek down on his arm so he could watch Kyle from the corner of his eye. “‘s pretty.”

“Mhm.”

He watched as Kyle’s brows began to furrow, the wisps of onyx hair brushing against his forehead as he shifted back and forth between blues and greens and pinks and yellows, grabbing at different brushes to make sharp lines and soft edges, and somewhere along the lines, Jason felt a drowsiness wash over him; he tried to fight off the sleep calling his name, forcing himself to keep his eyes open, but they began to drift shut and the weight on his arms began to grow until he drifted off.

Jason didn’t know how long he was asleep, but he awoke to feather light kisses along the tips of his shoulders and to his neck, a sleepy smile growing on his lips when he felt the curve of Kyle’s lips on his skin. “Done already?” he asked, tongue heavy in his mouth.

“Done already,” Kyle said. “You’ve been asleep for like three hours.”

“Really? Didn’t feel like it was that long.”

Kyle shifted and laid beside him, gently brushing away some hair from Jason’s face. “You were obviously exhausted from patrol. You even snored.”

“Did not,” Jason muttered, cocking an arm out to wrap around Kyle’s waist and pull him until half of his body was laying under Jason’s left. “You’re the snorer.” He dug his nose into Kyle’s hair. “Gonna go back to sleep.”

“I gotta go wash the brushes or the paint will dry in them.”

“Mmm…do it later.”

Kyle whined and shoved at Jason, but his grip was like steel. “Jason, the paint is gonna be a bitch to get out of my brushes!”

“Later,” he muttered against his hair. “Sleepy.”

“You’re gonna clean my brushes then.”

“M’kay.” Jason pressed his lips against Kyle’s head. “Did you take a picture of my back?”

“Uh huh.”

“Post it on your Instagram?”

“Yep.”

“Bunch of likes?”

“So many already.”

Jason smiled. “Gotta show me in the morning.” He squeezed Kyle’s hip. “My talented artist.”

Kyle beamed like an idiot and wiggled until he was face-level with Jason’s throat, winding their legs together; he flicked his hand up and a green light filled the room before a weight placed itself across them, the blanket from the chair in the corner. As the light died down and sleep began to wash over Kyle, he shifted his head back and whispered, “Jay? You still awake?”

“…Mhm?”

“I love you, Jason,” Kyle murmured, pressing his lips to Jason’s collarbone.

It took a moment for Jason to respond, but when he did, his voice was soft, oh so soft that it almost made Kyle want to cry. “…I love you more, Kyle.”

I love that the Arrowfam is such an outdoorsy group of people and nearly all of them love nature, like they probably go watch the annual salmon migration just for fun.

(Also when you combine this family that’s well adept at tracking and living outdoors with the Lanterns who are very much used to living in space without comforts, they probably have the wildest camping trips all together 😭)

C - A ship you have never liked and probably never will (be nice)

BATLANTERN. respectfully, what the hell is up with that? i've never seen any chemistry between them beyond thinly veiled irritation and professionalism on a good day. there's obviously moments between them of genuine kindness and respect, but..... hal is a very closed off person, despite what he may display otherwise. he has a small circle of extremely close friends that probably know more about him than his own family. and Bruce is Bruce. it just doesn't really make sense to me and never ever will

T - Do you have any hard and fast headcanons that you will die defending, about anything at all (gender identity, sexual or romantic orientation, extended family, sexual preferences like top/bottom/switch, relationship with poetry, seriously anything)

I have plenty! but i'll narrow it down to a few.

1. Jason Todd is trans. i won't elaborate.

2. 80% of heroes AND villains have autism. there's just too many characters with Behaviors and i love representation. specifically with characters having fixations, stimming, having empathy issues or being bad at reading rooms. ALL of the gotham rogues have some sort of autism/adhd/ocd going on. (as someone with all of those it makes me so happy to see rep!! and often the OCD is portrayed just fine imo. which is rare)

3. lanternfam is just as close-knit as any other "dc family" (hero group). i think that recent comics have really fucked up GL's as a whole. i haven't enjoyed much that's come out in the last 10 or so years for them outside of some little spinoff stuff. (geoff johns...... count your days) but in my own little fantasy world they treat each other like family the same as flashfam batfam arrowfam whatever. like 4 really annoying brothers in a college dorm and the dorm is a giant green planet and college is Not Dying. they genuinely love each other and open up a lot. when simon and jessica join they are welcomed with open arms and instantly get invited to poker night that evening. i think comics (recently) have this weird give and take with love vs. disrespect with the lanterns and like..... they have been through WAY too much to hold even an ounce of animosity towards each other.

N - Name three things you wish you saw more or in your main fandom (or a fandom of choice)

oh god there are so many more things than 3 that i would like to see in the DC fandom that i dont see. but i'll shave it down to 3

MORE LANTERNFAM -dear god please give me more lanternfam. i want hal! i want guy! i want john! i want kyle! i want kilowog! i want carol! i want razer! i want aya! please god i just want more lanternfam -on that note, i also just want the lanterns to get more respect???? they wield the most powerful weapon in the known universe and are insanely powerful to be able to do so. lets get some respect on their names, please?

midnighter and apollo actually getting the credit they deserve instead of being watered down little bitches -dear god please dc ruined their characters and took away all interesting factors that either of them had and left them soulless shells of the men, nay, gods they used to be. they took away their marriage. they took away their daughter. they took away their beautiful codependency. -instead, midnighter is an edgy batman knockoff and apollo is a superman fanboy -they would not fucking say that -and a lot of fans are seeing their new 52 and rebirth versions and accepting that as who they actually are as characters, and no! they had a rich and vibrant history before the new 52 ruined them -i just want them to go back to who they were, together and apart, before the new 52, where their story actually had meaning and a political message instead of the watered down fanservice "oh look we have gay characters" that their comics are today

more content that separates other characters from the bats so they can get an actual story told -ive complained about this in some of my tags recently, but as someone who is in a lot of other parts of the dc fandom that ISNT the batfam, i'd like to be able to sit down and actually have content for characters, ships, and dynamics between characters that dont involve any of the bats. -im a lantern fan. do you know how hard it is to actually find content for that? there is so little guyhal content, or superlantern, or green lantern the animated series, or hal's relationship with literally any other character when compared to the content for bruce and his kids. -i want to be able to read clark kent content without it being about bruce. i'd like to read superbat where its not about clark being a stepdad to the batkids and completely ignores clarks kids. he has kids and this is as important to his character as bruces are to his. -i want to read flash content without dick in it. i'd like to have comics coming out where i wont have to read about the bats and their misadventure of the year -please stick the bats in an alternate dimension where nothing happens for a year so i can enjoy literally anyone else doing anything else -duke can stay bc he already has literally barely any content for him and i think he deserves to get to grow as his own character for a bit. im putting him in a terrarium with shelter, food, and enrichment and gently misting him with water as we speak. i shall take care of him as he becomes independent and gets to be a kid for a little while. he is being taken care of well -that being said can i please have more fics where we take bruce's kids from him and they actually get to grow a personality other than "gotham vigilante"? let hal steal bruces kids! let clark! let barry! let dinah! please im asking very nicely
