This was a fun project, it was more of a restoration/conversion than a full build. It was originally an old style boffer but the tape was breaking and we wanted to save the amazing pommel. So I removed the old blade using my bandsaw then built a new style blade for it.
Needed a quiet unstructured day so I finally started on a LARP crafting project I’ve been wanting to do for a while. Making myself a custom painted parasol.
Gonna be a multi step process, but step one is done!
Sean came back from his pre-event shopping trip and said “guess what I got! A big bag of turnips!”
“Great!” I said. “For What?”
“The players are gonna get some turnip-y goodness!”
“This is not self-evident, Sean! What are they for?”
turns out the answer to that question was, we’re going to make lawn darts out of them so our crew of gambling-addicted (in the fun way) PCs could gamble with a glibben (in-world fae).
I was deeply skeptical but they came together real good like. I started taking over the building of the turnips because one thing I have learned in my years of experience is that as a larp staffer you do not, in fact, have enough time for your craft project once game has begun. (I’m just support staff now so me, I can take the time to assemble turnips). The only thing I changed from Sean’s original plan was to use waxed twine instead of duct tape which I think makes the whole thing a lot more subtle. I giggled to myself wildly, sitting in a cabin alone, tying ferns-to-dowels, because they look better than they frankly have any right to. Charged them up real good with Alex’s powerful UV stage lights. They played a full game and none of ‘em snapped! And they told me they glowed the whole time.
This is is peak larp shenanigans, and my new favourite collab.
I’m looking for someone who is comfortable with corsets and sewing for a corset for my LARP character (i am plus size and would need someone comfortable with sewing for plus size people)
Happy new year 2595, everyone - Team Ratatösk is giving their LARP debut in the end of January, and three or four Hellvetics are going. That means it’s crafting time!
Lore dictates that every Hellvetic has a Trailblazer. I, Jünger, did not really need one when I was playing the auxiliary soldier Staub (†), and I did not know if her successor would be enough fun to get one. Turns out, playing Jünger is a lot of fun; so I got me a NERF Rapidstrike and gave it a case mod. It doesn’t need to fire in game, but it will need sound, which is the project I was waiting for to get into electronics. So Jünger will be fumbling forward off-game and keep you posted eventually.
Moreover, the padded parts of the Hellvetic costume need to be “refreshed”, since thin coats of acrylic color don’t survive being mashine washed. This time, I’m using fabric paint to add a bit of depth and grunge. Let’s see how it fares...

Hey guys, I restarted my blog, it’s a bit more open and I’m gonna be posting a more broad range of topics on here. Anyways here’s a larp safe weapon I created recently for my Druid warrior character at Veil of Ashes. It is a 30 inch long short sword made from 2lb eva foam with a fiberglass core.
