More Miscellaneous World-Building from my 'Modern' AU

-Twilight isn't allowed to talk about what happened during the war per the Light Spirits, but a few people do still know due to him accidentally blabbing after getting a little too drunk. Time and Malon know there's something and that he can't talk about it. Originally only Midna knew, it wasn't until a few years later when as previously mentioned, he got too drunk. Ilia didn't believe him at first which led to him using the shadow crystal, Wars then woke up the next morning to wolf Twilight in his living room. Legend didn't explicitly know until one night when he, Wars, and Twi were having their 'get drunk in a cornfield & have a bonfire' night when Wars off-handily mentioned fighting with wolf Twi & cursed Midna during the war. Legend always knew there was something with Twilight, just never specifically what (being around enough ancient magical artifacts will do that to a guy). Wind recognizes the marks on Twilight are eerily similar to a wolf he encountered not long after he landed in mainland Hyrule, but has yet to make the conection.

^TDLR: Midna, Warriors, Legend, and Ilia are the only ones who directly know. Malon, Time, and the people in Ordon know something happened during those years but don't ask. Wind just didn't put two and two together.

-There are region specific curses. (The map from my 'modern' au is heavily based on the twilight princess's map)

Example: 'Oh Ordona/For Ordona's sake'

Ordona Province: 'Ordona'

Faron Province: 'Faron, Farore'

Eldin Province: 'Eldin'

Lanayru Province: 'Lanayru'

Desert Province: 'Lanayru, Argorok, Hylia, Sols (Twili specific)'

Peak Province: 'Lanayru, Hylia'

Castle Town: despite being located in the Lanayru Province, most locals don't have as much faith tied to the Light Spirit, mostly just using 'Hylia' in some form or another

Lorule: 'Lolia'

Holodrum: 'Din/Dinraal'

Labrynna: 'Nayru/Naydra, Laruto'

Great Sea Islands: 'Valoo, Cyclos, Zephos, Jabun' (varies from island to island)

New Hyrule: 'Spirits'

-The Zora Race is predominantly from Labrynna. Wild is technically Labrynnian, not Hyrulian (aka he was born in Labrynna and lived a good chunk of life there).

Gorons are from Holodrum. Speculated that is where Hyrule is from (he still doesn't actually know where hes from).

Twili were banished to the Desert Province (that is no longer the case).

Gerudo used to be mainly in the Desert Province/Gerudo Desert but have mostly migrated into other provinces in Hyrule.

Anouki are mainly from New Hyrule, but a good amount is from the Peak Province in Hyrule. Ashei is half-Anouki.

Rito predominantly from Dragon Roost 'Island' (the island is significantly bigger than it is in-game, county sized)

Zora, Rito, Gorons, Twili, and other humanoid races are just human races.

I didn't really have a song in mind for Link to be playing in my ghiralink Orpheus and Eurydice fic—mostly just unnamed song in an unfamiliar language because that was easy lol—but I'm listening to Zelda music and I think it would be fun if it was Laruto's Lament :) it's a simple harp melody, and the lyrics are in Latin, which would call back to the Greco-Roman origin of the myth:

Ad idem, Ad infinitum

In memoriam, cor unum

vi et armis, vale

As is the same eternally

in memory, one heart

with strength and arms (weapons), farewell

The Latin isn't... great. Also I did the translation while listening to the song so I may be

Vi et Armis (By force and arms) *vi et armis is ablative, so it could be with or by, usually determined by context that doesn't exist here. This translation went for a darker interpretation

#it fits the sequel I haven't written where Link and Ghirahim become permanent inhabitants of the temple #the sequel if from botw Zelda's pov visiting the spring of power and sws Link shows up as a spirit to guide her #because he was also 'late' in becoming the hero and seen as weaker than his previous counterpart(s) #but he succeeded #and he's kind of like. do you really want hylia to answer you? this action will have consequences #Ghirahim's there but sulking in his sword form for some reason. Link mentions him and warns Zelda that botw Link should avoid him #and it would get into what I set up from the previous fic about how Ghirahim can only be drawn by someone who is worthy and would except #the dark power without changing it #mostly it would be a link&zelda thing #I'm just thinking about sws Link who in an Orpheus/Eurydice situation took Ghirahim's curse on himself as well #and is now stuck with him forever but in like an underworld spirit-y kind of way #the spring of power being revered by Hylians as the place where Hylia trapped Demise's sword #because power is usually associated with ganondorf and therefore the hylians see it as bad #and sws Link there to tell all who come after him asking the gods for help to hurry up fate or change it or something #that it doesn't work #also I like the song #ghiralink

What if it was just the river zora that evolved into the rito? We haven’t see the river zora recently if I remember right

Because it’s the great sea and river creatures are different

The issue isn't just that we're told the Zora evolved into the Rito, otherwise I'd agree with you. The problem is that this

is our evidence. Medli is Laruto's descendant, and Laruto is an Ocarina of Time era Sea Zora.

Furthermore, we don't ever see Sea Zora in that nebulous canon timeline branch again. Neither Phantom Hourglass nor Spirit Tracks have any sign of them.

What they DO have, however, are Geozards:

If anything, this is proof that the River Zora only got stronger after the Sea Zora vanished.

The Rito origin remains a canonical paradox.

i'm sick of looking at this so JAX 2.0 WITH NEW AND IMPROVED FLAVOUR

not much changed other than simplifying certain aspects of his design. no more alternating stripes on his spines, just solid glowy colour

and also me. adding things obv this is meant to be his totk era design after he starts going back to the domain and repairing his relationship w sidon and his dad. he gets to see his mom again after a hundred years bc i headcanon that until calamity ganon was defeated zelda had been creating a barrier around hyrule as well. no one could get in or out sort of thing

ANYWAYS he starts spending a few months out of the year in termina and he shows back up one year w a tattoo

i like to think that terminian zora look a lot more like the OG oot/mm/ooa/ww designs (laruto counts shhhh). aka more leggy bc they're reef zora and bc it adds to the weird alienness i think is inherent to termina in general. he takes after his mom in a lot of ways

jax is a nickname his full name is jacek bc when he hatched the hyacinths were in bloom :). and also bc some varieties of pink hyacinth are exactly as eye-searing as his stripes. only his parents (and later sidon) call him that though he hates it when other people use it

still has his guitar, i just can't be assed to draw it again. he carries it around in a fishing net modified to be a bag

honorary citizen of lurelin bc he kept monsters away and babysat everyone's kids for 20 years. the kids made him a bracelet out of cowries as a birthday present one year and it's one of his most cherished possessions

also since i forgot to mention it in the pic i gave him little hollow wrist spurs like a platypus so he can inject venom w his hands and not just his spines
