From: Klonoa 2: Lunatea’s Veil Official Guide Book (Published by Famitsu/Enterbrain - 2001) (Pg. 207)
~Messages from the Klonoa 2 Staff~ Lastly, we would like to show you messages from those who were involved in the development of Klonoa 2 to the public. You'll find hard work, inside stories, and a few positive ones(?!) here and there! ......So, thank you all for your hard work!
Tomomitsu Kaneko Profile: ● Age: 24 years old ● Blood Type: O ● Responsibilities: Sound Effects ● Comments: Sound effects...... sound effects? Ugh, too much light. ● Favorite character: Likuri
Minako Matsuda Profile: ● Age: 33 years old ● Blood Type: A ● Responsibilities: Package Design ● Comments: Every time we make a package, we go to the chief to see what the next one will be like, but this time, we don’t have to do that anymore, Mr. Kobayashi just comes in and talks like a madman and leaves. I could go on and on about this and that, so to sum it up, this is a package that says, “Let’s go on an exciting adventure!” What I really like is the part where the ears are moving. I think that’s what makes Klonoa so great. ● Favorite character: Moo
Shinichi Tsuruya Profile: ● Age: 25 forever ● Blood Type: Typical B ● Responsibilities: Quality control and programmer snoozing ● Comments: I am Tsuruya, in charge of quality control. I have always heard users say, “Klonoa makes me cry!” I agree with you completely. It really made me cry, yes. Both 1 and 2. I can’t stop crying. The first ocean is our incapacitation. It was only those who played Klonoa that stopped the tears. Thank you for playing! ● Favorite character: Large Dream Stone with wings x5
Ryo Sakamoto Profile: ● Age: 28 years old ● Blood Type: O ● Responsibilities: Quality control (Debugging) ● Comments: Hello, my name is Sakamoto of Quality Control. I hope you all are enjoying the scaled-up Klonoa 2 in all aspects. My favorite song is from Mts. of Mira-Mira. When I was tired, that BGM cheered me up. You may also feel more energetic if you listen to it when you are tired. Last but not least, the entire staff will continue to do our best based on your support, so please continue to support Klonoa for a long time to come. See you soon! ● Favorite character: Moo (I like the way he walks)
Noriko Kobayashi Profile: ● Age: Unknown! ● Blood Type: A ● Responsibilities: Sales Promotion (Public Relations - mainly magazine publicity) ● Comments: We held game tournaments (Jungle Slider Relay Race!) with users at event sites across the country. We also danced the “Klonoa-kun Dance” to the background music of the Mts. of Mira-Mira stage. We were blessed with the opportunity to actually talk with many Klonoa fans, making this year’s sales promotion activity a very memorable one. I hope that everyone who played the game will become a word-of-mouth promotion captain and spread the fun of Klonoa to the people around them.  ● Favorite character: Erbil is so nice~
Hideo Yoshizawa Profile: ● Age: Age? I forgot. ● Blood Type: Once a B, now an A ● Responsibilities: Scenario (Screenplay, Supervisor) ● Comments: I had a lot of trouble with this story. I even had to reject one entire story. In the end, I rewrote the story up to about the seventh draft. I wanted to make a fresh and a little sad ending this time, since I made a very sad ending last time. But I wanted it to be directly connected to the hearts of the players, who are the alter egos of Klonoa, and that’s how I set up this world. Think about what sorrow means to you. ● Favorite character: Leorina

Part 3 Entertainment - Books Part 2
I finally(!) learned about Stuff Your Kindle Day (SYKD), which is a bit of a misnomer as it's
Not amazon- or kindle-exclusive
Multiple times throughout the year
but it's a day where indie publishers/author promo groups all sell free books at once, adding up to dozens or hundreds (and sometimes thousands) of free books at a time, for a single day. If you were thinking about getting some ebooks to help pass the time at consults/after surgery, it wouldn't take very many out of those large number of free books to have plenty of reading material. I've been able to confirm that, outside of the US, this is also available in Canada, the UK, and Australia. Other countries may be participating as well, but I'm struggling to confirm one way or another, and the same book may not be free in all regions.
It's worth mentioning that Kindle, Apple, Nook, and Kobo all have free apps if you don't have an ereader (or would rather use a tablet than have a dedicated ereader), and that all of these storefronts are, to my knowledge, participants in all of these events. I will say that I was initially hesitant to get an ereader and waited a long time to get one, but I don't regret it. I have been, in particular, VERY vocal in recommending them to people who struggle to read paper books because you can change the font/font size/margin to make them more accessible, including using the OpenDyslexia font.
SYKD originally was romance-exclusive, and the "official" STKD events are still heavily romance-focused, but there are other publishers and groups coordinating similar, smaller events in other genres ("Book Blast" seems to be the current popular name for discount events not associated with the original group running SYKD).
If you know me at all, I am a pretty prolific category romance reader (especially at places like the doctor's office, where a romance novel is a nice time-waster that doesn't require wifi and allows me to not be fully immersed while I listen for my name to be called), so I'm quite excited for the official announcement for STKD, likely happening in March. In 2023, for some measure of comparison, SYKD happened on March 31, June 30, September 20, and December 27.
Romance Bookworms is the home of the "original" SYKD and allows you to sign up for email alerts (or substack) when they announce the dates for 2024, which are a closely guarded secret. SYKD is the largest of events by FAR with about 2,000 books available in the December 2023 event. Romance is the primary genre, but other books in other genres are free for SYKD as well. Several sources indicate that Romance Bookworms has sections on their SYKD listings specifically for BIPOC authors and for books that feature LGBTQ+ protagonists.
Romance Book Lovers is an unrelated group that is hosting a Romance Book Blast, with the next listed date as April 23.
The Cozy Mystery Book Club has coordinated several Cozy Mystery Book Blasts in the past, including in January of 2024, with the next event listed publicly as April 25.
Witchy Bookworms coordinates the Witchy Book Blast, which ran last on January 27 and already has the next date listed publicly as April 27.
Fantasy Book Dragons just ran their first "Stuff Your Kindle with Fantasy" event in January and have mentioned plans for another event in June with no date announced yet.
YA Bookworms runs a similar YA-focused event, the last one I can find info on happened on October 7. They also have a substack.
Terrify Your Tablet seems to run on October 31 only each year (This is the same event as Spook Your Kindle; they changed the name to clarify that it's not amazon-exclusive).
Thriller Blast appears to be a similar event for mystery, suspense, and thriller books, with a similar hook of waiting on an email announcement for dates and no clear indication on the landing page when the last event was held. I also wasn't able to confirm anyone participating it in via reddit, or anywhere else, so your guess is as good as mine.
Romance Audiobookworms also runs a similar event for audiobooks, Stuff Your Earbuds, with an event announced for spring but the date still unannounced, just like SYKD. This is still a relatively new event, unlike SYKD.
There's a lot of whining online about the quality of the books available for these events (especially SYKD, which I'm sure is unrelated to the fact that it's mostly romance and the general feelings most people have about romance as a genre), but the fact of the matter is that books available on kindle, especially for free, vary wildly in quality all the time no matter what. I've quit reading a lot of duds in the year I've owned an ereader, but I've read a lot of things I liked, too, and I assume the offerings for these events are a similar mixed bag.
Considering how many new events have cropped up in the past 18 months or so, I'll be excited to see in any new author groups decide to run similar promotions in the future or whether more groups decide to align with SYKD.

survey by --rainboweyes-- which is meant to be answered in future tense but i’m making it a recap instead because travel hangover is real :) :) :)
Firstly, what's your name? Robyn.
Secondly, what is your age? I’m 25.
Thirdly, where do you live? The Philippines.
You & Your Trip
Where are you going to? I went to Bangkok and Kuala Lumpur, consecutively.
Is it just you or is someone else going? Who/come many? Thailand: I was with Angela, Reena, and Hans. Malaysia: I was with my entire immediate family; five people total.
What type of accomodation are you going to be staying in (hotel, cabin etc) Thailand: We stayed in an Airbnb. Lovely, quaint loft in the middle of a super local area where we lived on 7-Eleven and the various food stalls the whole time we were there. Also, we were just a 1-minute walk away from the nearest train station so commuting was super easy! Malaysia: So my mom fucked up the booking for this because we were meant to stay at a hotel for our whole trip, but turns out she only punched in the first two nights...we ended up hurriedly booking an Airbnb for our last two nights. At the end of it all I was SO much happier in the Airbnb. Just less fancy, less pretentious, and it let me appreciate the local life more.
What country/state/area is the place you are staying? Thailand: We specifically stayed in Talat Phlu.  Malaysia: Jalan Pinang for the first half, Bukit Ceylon the latter half of the trip.
The place you are staying, what are the most popular 'things to do'? Thailand: The local culture is fan-fucking-tastic and you can do everything from going to museums, restaurant-hopping, binging on local street food, experiencing the night life, and visiting their night markets. I feel like we just barely scratched the surface of what you can possibly do in Bangkok even though our itinerary was packed to the brim and we averaged 10k steps/day. Malaysia: Just shopping and malling, really. But the thing is they don’t have spots where you can shop for cheap like in Bangkok...you can really only do your shopping in KL if you can afford your Louis Vuittons and Rolexes. I did see some nightlife but I think it’s only centered in Changkat Bukit Bintang.
What are YOU planning to do on this trip? Thailand: I remember making it a goal to do three things in Bangkok: see Yoongi, eat tons of street food, and go to a redlight district. I did the first two and we ended up not having time for the third. We also went on a cruise along the Chao Phraya; shopped at Chatuchak; visited the Maeklong Railway market and one of their many floating markets; and visited Wat Pho. On our final day, Reena and I made a stop at the BTS pop-up store that was stopping over at Bangkok at the time. Malaysia: I didn’t exactly have plans for this trip in the beginning. I honestly wasn’t too excited for it either as it was back-to-back with my Bangkok trip and I felt like I was going to be dead exhausted after the latter – and because I kind of had a feeling that I was gonna spend most of my time missing my time in Bangkok with friends. Anyway, it all changed when I found out that Kuala Lumpur is home to a beautiful, gigantic park and I spent nearly every day I had in KL staying in that park and admiring everything about it.
Are you flying, driving or going on a boat to get there? I flew to both countries.
How long will the above journey take? Thailand: By plane, it took a little under three hours. Malaysia: Four hours.
How popular is the destination you are going to? Thailand: As far as I know it’s a major tourist destination all year long. I saw SO MANY non-Asian people in my time there. It just so happens to be a bonus that there was suddenly a large wave of Filipinos there because we were all there to see Yoongi, hahaha. Malaysia: Slightly less popular than Thailand, but I saw lots of tourists nonetheless. It’s particularly a popular destination for Filipinos and I overheard a good amount of Filipino being spoken while I was there.
The Place Itself
Is there a beach nearby? Thailand: As far as I know, no. Malaysia: Definitely not. There was talk within my family of going to the beach, but it was quickly canceled when we realized that the nearest beach was like 400km away.
How far away are the nearest shops? Thailand: We lived in the outskirts of the city center, so the malls were actually a good 30-minute drive away if the traffic was a little forgiving. The cheaper night markets, around 45 minutes to an hour away. Malaysia: When we stayed at Hyatt we were like a 2-minute walk from Suria KLCC, their most popular mall. When we moved to the Airbnb, the nearest shops and malls were around a 20-minute walk away.
Is it a pub/club area? Thailand: Talat Phlu isn’t exactly one, no. It’s a quiet neighborhood. Malaysia: I’d consider it one, yes. We stayed very close to Changkat Bukit Bintang but I never got to experience the nightlife as I was with my family, none of whom drinks. The rest of Kuala Lumpur, honestly a bit disappointing as everything closes by 8 PM hahahaha
What are the locals like/supposed to be like? Thailand: EXTREMELY friendly and helpful. There were only two or three times that locals didn’t try to strike a conversation with us. Everyone is approachable and even most of our Grab drivers were super open to telling us about their country, their culture, how their monarchy works, etc.
I had a wholesome experience with a local coffee stall manned by someone who didn’t speak a word of English. She was trying to ask me how much sugar I wanted and I, not speaking a word of Thai, just told her “many many many” while making this grand motion with my arms. My group and she had a cute chuckle about it and to her credit she did make my drink extremely sweet! Haha. At the Chatuchak night market, too, we saw this kind old man selling handpainted shirts and we ended up having a short talk with him about this hobby of his, when he started, etc. It was awesome. Malaysia: They’re much like Filipinos in that they like to keep to themselves. Nothing bad about it, it’s just that they won’t go out of their way to talk to you and stuff. Only our first Grab driver (who drove us from the airport to the hotel) initiated a conversation with us.
What is the first language of this place? Thailand: Thai. Malaysia: Malay. A bit easier for me this time around as Filipino does have a good number of similarities to Malay, like how ‘masuk’ in Malay means entrance. ‘Pasok’ in Filipino means ‘to go in.’
What about the secondary language? I wanna say it’s English for both? I’m not entirely sure though.
What is the currency that is used? Thailand: Baht. Malaysia: Ringgit.
Is there any fields/woods nearby? Thailand: I didn’t find any, at least. Malaysia: Well they do have a park, so there’s that.
Is this place in the city or is it more rural? Both were urban spaces.
What countries/states/islands surround the place you're visiting? Thailand: If my memory in geography classes serve me well, there’s Myanmar, Laos, and Malaysia. Malaysia: Thailand and Singapore. Indonesia too I think?
What type of food is the most popular there? Thailand: Mango sticky rice, tom yum soup, and pad thai I feel are major pillars of their local cuisine. Malaysia: Nasi lemak and rendang.
Can you smoke/drink/wear a bikini there? Thailand: You can smoke cigarettes and weed, but not vape which was a major struggle for me hah. You can drink, too, and I imagine you can wear a bikini given how accepting the country is as far as freedom of expression. Malaysia: Yeah people were fucking smoking and vaping everywhere. Yes to drinking as well but I imagine it’d be a bit touchy with bikinis considering the women are very conservative.
What religion is the main religion there? Thailand: Buddhism. Malaysia: Islam.
How Many...
Days are you going for? Thailand: I was there for technically 5 days, but it felt like 4 only because our arrival was at 11 PM and we had barely anything to do the first night. Malaysia: 5 days. It was nearly the same situation as Thailand, except we had more to do the first night since we arrived earlier, around 5 PM.
People are going? Thailand: There were four of us. Malaysia: Again, there were five.
Suitcases are being taken? I didn’t bring any extra luggage for both, just my handcarry.
Handbag/extra bags being taken? I just had one small suitcase then my belt bag.
Adults going? Thailand: Four. Malaysia: Five.
Children going? None for both.
Miles away is it from where you live? Thailand: Around 2,200 km.  Malaysia: Around 2,400 km.
Stars is the resort if a hotel or motel? Thailand: We were in an Airbnb. Malaysia: 5-star for our first accommodation, then we had an Airbnb for the second half of the trip.
States or country do you have to pass over to get there? We flew.
Colours are in that country’s flag? Thailand: Blue, white, red. Malaysia: Blue, white, red, yellow.
Things you plan to do:
Go swimming? Eh I’m not big on swimming if it’s not on a beach, so I didn’t do any swimming for both trips.
Go on the beach? ^ That.
Go to a bar? We did go to a local bar in Thailand, right after the concert since we wanted to shake off our concert high/adrenaline. Most bars were closed after midnight, but we found this one spot hidden in some building with a local band playing. Music was awesome despite us not understanding a word of their songs. What baffled me though was the lack of seats in the bar. Like we had tables to set our drinks down, sure, but no seats? What a unique experience haha.
Didn’t do any drinking in Malaysia as I was with family.
Go clubbing? Didn’t go clubbing for either trip.
Play a sport such as golf, volleyball etc? We didn’t have time for sports, haha.
Walk around the shops? Definitely. The glaring difference is that I shopped til I dropped in Bangkok, and only went window shopping in Kuala Lumpur also just because I wiped out my shopping budget from Bangkok. This is besides the fact that KL mostly had high-end brands anyway.
Go to a spa? I’m not a fan of spas and massages so no.
Go to a zoo? Zoos are a no-no for me. We had talk of visiting an elephant sanctuary in Bangkok, but the ethical ones were understandably considerably expensive so we had to pass on it.
Go to a museum? I actually was never able to! In Bangkok we simply didn’t have time to do so; although on our last day when our schedule was kind of freer, I did try to visit the Bangkok Art & Culture Centre...only to find out they’re closed on Mondays :( In the end, zero museums were visited for both Thailand and Malaysia.
Go to other sights to see? Thailand: Yeah in Bangkok we went full tourist mode – booked a couple of Klook tours that I already mentioned earlier, and also did a temple visit on our own. Malaysia: It was honestly a bit harder to go sightseeing with family since we don’t share the same stamina. I couldn’t get them to walk as much as I would’ve wanted to or experience the nightlife, but we did try to visit as many spots as we could together. We saw the Petronas Twin Towers (but never went inside), went to Suria KLCC, the KLCC Park, Jalan Alor, Bukit Bintang, and Petaling Street. The four of them also went to Central Market on our penultimate day but I didn’t join in as I worked from Malaysia that day.
Go kayaking/boating? Yes we rode a boat in Thailand as part of our floating market tour :) They took us along the markets and several spots along the river where fireflies would start to light up when the sun goes down.
Go skiing/skating etc? Nope.
Go to a church/temple to pray? In Wat Pho we paid our respects, yes.
Go to a local restaurant? For sure. Our only exception was to try the local McDonald’s in Bangkok for the sole purpose of trying out products that weren’t in the Philippine menu. None of us got what we already have over here.
Others/Extras
Are you going on this trip for a tan, for fun, to explore or what? Thailand: The premise of this trip is endearing to think about now. We definitely wanted to go for the Yoongi concert, but considering how hard it was to secure tickets and how many Filipinos (and even people from neighboring countries!!!) were planning to go, we literally made a vow among ourselves that 1) we were going to try our best to get tickets, and 2) if we didn’t, we were going to treat our trip like a normal, leisure trip and no one is going to be a debbie downer about missing the concert. That said we booked our flight before the tickets, but we were very fortunate to get tickets so the trip turned out to be both for the concert and so that we can finally travel as a group, out of the country, for the very first time. Malaysia: For vacation. Also I think partly because my mom had been jealous of my Bangkok trip so she ended up booking KL on a whim.
You are most looking forward to...? Thailand: It was excitement for both seeing Yoongi and traveling overseas with my closest friends. Malaysia: I was excited to keep going back to the park, as soon as I discovered it for the first time.
What clothes/accessories have you bought especially for this trip? Thailand: You wouldn’t believe the shopping I did for this trip. I got so many new tops, bottoms, even a new pair of sneakers. It’s the first trip I funded entirely on my own, so I wanted it to be special and for the photos to be great. Malaysia: All the clothes I didn’t get to use in Bangkok. Literally didn’t even unpack since there was a lot of leftovers haha.
How long is it until your trip? Thailand: Thailand has been a month ago, now. We flew out June 8th. Malaysia: The trip was around three weeks ago.
Are there any diseases/terror threats you have to be careful of there? As a Filipino, I fear nothing.
Give us an interesting fact about this place: Thailand: I learned from one of our tours that Bangkok was built on a delta. That was very fascinating to hear. Also the fact that weed stores are super common there was a major culture shock. OH you also can’t buy alcohol past midnight; I learned that the hard way when I was barred from buying soju at our local 7-Eleven and was told I can only do so again by 10 AM the next day lol. Malaysia: I didn’t really pick up any fun facts while I was there haha.

2022
Here we go again!
1. What did you do in 2022 that you’d never done before?
Paddle the Whanganui River, finish a degree, get Covid, keep plants alive for over a year, knit a sock, hire an employee.
2. Did you keep your New Year’s resolutions, and will you make more for next year?
Nah, still don’t really do those.
3. Did anyone close to you give birth?
Yep. One close friend, and one other friend, as well as several acquaintances. Living that early 30s life...
4. Did anyone close to you die?
Nobody close, but several friends lost parents this year.
5. What countries did you visit?
Just around NZ. Hopefully next year, now that the borders are open again!
6. What would you like to have in 2023 that you lacked in 2022?
I’m hoping by the end of the year to have a place of my own. Maybe even one where I’m paying my own mortgage, rather than someone else’s?
7. What dates from 2022 will remain etched upon your memory, and why?
Whanganui River, Pukawa trip, Vanessa and Alister’s wedding, Milford Trip, Caitlin’s visit, Rakuira trip, Wellyfest, probably other stuff. Basically all the lovely travel away with friends.
8. What was your biggest achievement of the year?
Finishing a degree in Youth Development, definitely! With straight A+s to boot.
9. What was your biggest failure?
I don’t think I had any super major ones this year, which is really nice. Probably some work stuff around people management and communications of responsibilities.
10. Did you suffer illness or injury?
Got Covid after the Milford trip. It was highly shit and I was down for two weeks, and still recovering for a further three months. 0/10, would not recommend.
11. What was the best thing you bought?
Travel and rips away with friends. A new tramping pack. Some lovely artwork.
12. Whose behaviour merited celebration?
I don’t know. I always find this question really hard. Most people deserve to be celebrated?
13. Whose behaviour made you appalled and depressed?
I also always find this one hard. A few of our ex-volunteers, Putin, and the general awful that is alt-right assholes.
14. Where did most of your money go?
Food, rent, travel, and the dentist.
15. What did you get really, really, really excited about?
Caitlin visiting. Also travel stuff, friends’ wedding, Jenny Mitchell concerts, and Vanessa starting at work

I’m really not sure this year. Maybe Tug of War, by Jenny Mitchell

Going for walks outside, reaching out to friends

The usual combination of family and family friends. Lunch at family friends’ place, then an assortment of people over for dinner at my parents’ place.
21. Did you fall in love in 2022?
Nah
22. How many one-night stands?
Technically none, but maybe kind of one.
23. What was your favourite TV program?
Buffy. Binge watched it all for the first time, and can’t believe it took me so long!
24. Do you hate anyone now that you didn’t hate this time last year?
Not really. I don’t really do hating people, and those that would otherwise fall into the category aren’t worth my brain space.
25. What was the best book you read?
Bonk - the curious coupling of sex and science, by Mary Roach
26. What was your greatest musical discovery?
I feel like I’ve done a lot of listening to new albums from artists I already know and like this year. Maddie Poppe?

Turned 31. Went to work and had dinner with my family.
31. What one thing would have made your year immeasurably more satisfying?
Sorting out my stuff enough to be a bit further along the house buying journey? I think overall it’s been a pretty solid year for the most part, though.
32. How would you describe your personal fashion concept in 2022?
Jeans, leggings, t-shirts, and a fair bit of plaid. Comfortable and clean clothes are still my go-to here, and really doesn’t change on a year-to-year basis.

Probably the war in Ukraine.
36. Who did you miss?
Caitlin remains top of the list. Ireland is very far away.
37. Who was the best new person you met?
Marlene and Udit, I think
38. Tell us a valuable life lesson you learned in 2022:
Trusting others’ assumptions about the priority level of different projects is not the same as confirming them with the whole team, and it’s really a lot better to be sure of this sooner, rather than at the last minute.
39. Quote a song lyric that sums up your year:
“It’s just the way that it goes // sometimes the world feels awful slow // and it’s just the way that it is // we all go fishing, ‘til we’re sick of fish // and it don’t make no sense // we all dream of the green over that fence // but it comforts me to know // that it’s just the way it goes.” - Lucy, Jenny Mitchell
40. How did you spend New Year’s Eve?
Board games, pot luck, spa, and friends down the road at my parents’ place.

2022
1. What did you do in 2022 that you’d never done before? Portraiture? If that counts. Also, I've gotten into like... Not gardening, but growing things? Like I bought a bunch of flower growing kits. I also randomly got curious about playing with slime.
2. Did you keep your new years’ resolutions, and will you make more for next year? I never make any resolutions.
3. Did anyone close to you give birth? If my office manager counts.
4. Did anyone close to you die? --
5. What countries did you visit? None.
6. What would you like to have in 2023 that you lacked in 2022? Joji.
7. What date from 2022 will remain etched upon your memory, and why?
June 9: I saw Dan Rossen at the Cashbah. July 6: I saw Fleet Foxes at Cal Coast. Aug 20, 21: HITC 4.
8. What was your biggest achievement of the year? I think how much more I tried to get into photography or break out of my shell.  I tend to just stick to still life/flowers, and had always avoided portraits and the such.  But I did a couple “photoshoots” like for my office manager’s baby shower, and a cousin’s grad photos, and all the praise I got made me feel great.
I also managed to grow a mini rose from one of the kits I bought from Five Below. I was just gifted a couple more kits for Christmas, and I'm excited.
9. What was your biggest failure? Being alive.
10. Did you suffer illness or injury? I had COVID in earlier January.
11. What was the best thing you bought? Literally, any ticket to any concert. The Dreamfx lens filters for my camera. And the Buzzy seeds growing kits. And funnily, this strawberry scented slime.
12. Whose behaviour merited celebration? ?
13. Whose behaviour made you appalled and depressed? There was a thing with my coworker, but I think it was mostly miscommunication, and we got over it after we talked it out.
14. Where did most of your money go? Bills. Clothes, I suppose.
15. What did you get really, really, really excited about? Mostly Joji. And growing some fucking flowers.
16. What song will always remind you of 2022? There’s a lot actually: Joji, “Die For You”
Andrew Bird, “Underlands”
Daniel Rossen, “I’ll Wait For Your Visit”
Mei Ehara , “不確か”
Mom Jeans., “What's Up?"
Ruby Haunt, “Crave”
Toledo, “Fixing Up the Backroom”
Tim Bernardes, “BB (Garupa de Moto Amarela)”
Vision Video, “In My Side”
17. Compared to this time last year, are you:
i. happier or sadder? Happier, maybe. ii. thinner or fatter? Fatter. iii. richer or poorer? I mean, technically richer, but…
18. What do you wish you’d done more of? Skating.
19. What do you wish you’d done less of? Going to work.  Caring
20. How did you spend Christmas? Christmas Eve, I watched Avatar 2 with Adam and then opened presents with him and his dad. Christmas day, I went home and my parents weren't doing shit because they were fighting I guess, but I mostly remember trying to get food with my dad that we ended up going to Jack in the Box for dinner because nothing else was open.
21. Did you fall in love in 2022? With anyone new? No.
22. How will you be spending New Years? I’ve only just realized for the last few years after I first started doing these, that this question had been erased. I spent most of New Years at Adam’s, and we binge watched House of the Dragon.
23. How many one-night stands? 0.
24. What was your favourite TV program? Orville!
25. Do you hate anyone now that you didn’t hate this time last year? Is it hate that I feel? I definitely bounce between not giving a shit about them and wishing that there was still a friendship. It definitely feels like there isn't anymore, and it makes me feel angry that I feel like I've extended my hand more times than they have in the last few years. And then I remember all the times I felt like they never really have a fuck about me in the first place, and I get angrier, so... yeah, maybe.
26. What was the best book you read? I don’t know about “best,” but I started reading Jane Eyre, and restarted The Sorcerer’s Stone.
27. What was your greatest musical discovery? .
28. What did you want and get? Joji tickets to the Forum next year.
29. What did you want and not get? Probably better seats to Joji, but I’m still in a better section that I expected.
30. What was your favourite film of this year? Dinner in America. Or Top Gun, maybe? The Banshees of Inisherin.
31. What did you do on your birthday, and how old were you? I turned 31. I went to work, then went to Cheesecake factor for dinner with my parents and Adam.
32. What one thing would have made your year immeasurably satisfying? More Joji, seriously.
33. How would you describe your personal fashion concept in 2022? Scrubs. And because of my Stitch Fix subscription, a lot of floral dresses... And more Joji merch.
34. What kept you sane? Literally, just listening to Joji.  And naps.
35. Which celebrity/public figure did you fancy the most? Seriously?
36. What political issue stirred you the most? Eh.
37. Who did you miss? Literally, everybody...
38. Who was the best new person you met? No one's really standing out to me.
39. Tell us a valuable life lesson you learned in 2022: –
40. Quote a song lyric that sums up your year. “Deep red, seething anger, it is natural, all too familiar. That legacy is yours and mine to own, that's you and me.”

Stuff I’m Looking Forward to in September
Can’t believe it is now Fall or at least new Fall TV Season. In addition to Labor Day (Sept. 5), 9/11 Anniversary (Sept. 11), Grandparents Day (Sept. 11), first day of Fall (Sept. 22), and Rosh Hashanah (Sept. 25-27) here is what’s on my radar this month:
Movies:
Clerks III
Kevin Smith’s 1994 directorial debut Clerks is my all-time favorite of his films. Shot on 16mm black and white, he made a clever and funny movie about a convenient store, shot at the convenient store he was working at. The film put him on the map. His characters have popped up in various View Askewniverse films, but he returned to the store in 2006 with Clerks II. Now he has come full circle with Dante and Randal, now in their late 40s and 50s, who are still at Quickstop Convenience and after Randal has a near-fatal heart attack, they decide to make an indie film about the store. Opening 9/13!
Moonage Daydream
Brett Morgen’s 2015 doc Cobain: Montage of Heck was one of my Top 10 Documentaries of the 2010s. Now he is turning his eye to another musical icon (that Cobain famously covered), Sir David Bowie. This one was produced in cooperation with the Bowie estate. Opens 9/16.
Pearl
One of my favorite horror directors of the last decade or so is Ti West. Now he has made a prequel about one of the characters from X. Opens 9/16.
Blonde
A lot of actresses have played Marilyn Monroe over the years, but this one with Ana de Armas looks quite impressive. Opens 9/28.
Music:
Julian Lennon Jude
It has been over 11 years since Julian Lennon’s last album. Since then he’s been keeping busy with books, photography and more. I’m excited for his 7th album, which drops on 9/9.
Ringo Starr EP3
In 2021, Sir Ringo Starr released two EPs: Zoom In and Change the World. Both made my Best Albums of 2021 list. Now he’s back with a new EP dropping on 9/16!
Yeah Yeah Yeahs Cool It Down
The last Yeah Yeah Yeahs album was a whopping nine years ago (my #1 Album of 2013 I might add). They are one of the most original and innovative bands to emerge out of NYC in the early 00s. The band’s new album is among my most anticipated this year and it drops 9/30!
The Pixies Doggerel
The Pixies are a band I have always loved since I discovered Surfer Rosa as a teen. The group’s first album since 2019′s slow burn of an album Beneath the Eyrie is going to be quite a rocker! Album drops 9/30.
TV:
Andor (Disney +)
The newest Star Wars original live-action TV series will be about rebel spy Cassian Andor, Diego Luna’s character from Rogue One. This series takes place five years before Rogue One. Andor wasn’t my favorite character in Rogue One (that would be Chirrut Îmwe), but with Tony Gilroy on board as creator and producer I am optimistic about this show. Series Premiere on 9/21.
Events:
Taylor Hawkins Tribute Concerts
After the unexpected death of Taylor Hawkins in March, his bandmates in Foo Fighters have announced some tributes concerts to him, taking place at Wembley Stadium in London, UK on 9/3/2022 and at KIA Forum in Los Angeles, CA on 9/27/22. If, like me, you can’t make it to either city, it will be streamed on Paramount+, MTV’s YouTube channel, and Pluto TV.
Fake Holidays:
National Cinema Day
On September 3, participating movie theaters all over the country are having all movies, all day in all formats (including IMAX) only $3. This is a holiday everyone can celebrate!

Introduction: Mad Ones from Canada
Tumblr media
Music for your good times and bad, Mad Ones have been fortunate to play weird gigs all over the world from Serbian raves to roller rinks in Alberta, they play their own specific and ever evolving version of rock n roll. Count on memorable live shows and finely-crafted studio albums from this Toronto based 3-piece featuring Andrew DeVillers (vocals/guitar), Russ Fernandes (bass/vocals) and Jesse L. Bellon (drums/vocals).Last Forever, the band’s fourth studio album is out now on all digital streaming platforms via Fortune Stellar Records.
Interview with Andrew from Mad Ones:
The last few years have been hard for the band. Who helped you through the valleys? The last few years have been hard on everyone. We are not alone and definitely empathize with anyone else who lost a loved one during this strange time. For us, losing our dear friend and bandmate of the past 5 years, Adam Balsam, last October was extremely hard, just as it was looking like we could resume touring and release the new record.Mad Ones’ Russ Fernandes and I have been leaning on each other, as always and newcomer Jesse L. Bellon has brought a lot of levity and friendship at the most crucial time. My wife Shiloh Harrison of the band HotKid was been a complete rock and the musical community surrounding our Fortune Stellar Records Label have been incredible, especially José Contreras of By Divine Right who is helping produce our new record. Was it always clear to you that you wanted to continue the band? I can’t even remember if it was a conscious decision, we stumbled numbly into the booking commitments that were already planned, and the album was already coming out so we felt like we had to do something to honour all the hard work Adam, Russ and I had put into the record…but quickly we realized that performing and writing new material was some of the only peace we were finding, which made continuing a necessity. In Canada the distances are very long. How do the tours there work for you?Yes they are a little insane, in North America in general. We have learned to sometimes book tour dates around festivals when possible and do things like fly to the other end of the country then do stuff in neighbouring provinces as opposed to driving the whole stretch. Focusing on certain regions at different times of the year is key as well. In the early days of the band we drove 28 hrs straight to play in Austin, Texas…have I mentioned that we love playing in Europe?! In Europe you have made a name for yourselves in the meantime. How many EU tours will you play this year? We will hit 6 EU countries this fall supporting Mad Ones “Last Forever” LP. Then we hope to be back next year twice on the next album, revisiting the places in central and eastern EU that have been so great to us and then come back and try some more stuff in western EU and UK that we haven’t done yet. You have collaborated with Eamon McGrath. How do you know each other? I am a big fan of Eamon’s music and work ethic. We have been friends since 2016 when he first started booking Mad Ones in EU. We have a lot in common,  he has helped book a bunch of great bands and I run a record label and book tours as well. So it’s always great when we get to talk about recent successes or challenges we might be facing. Musically, Adam had been drumming with Eamon and I’m glad they got to work together before he passed. Do you have any regrets? Our 3rd album was actually called “Regretless” hahah! Maybe I have a few, but then again maybe too few to mention… What are you looking forward to? It feels like everything has taken on more gravity and levity simultaneously… I’m looking forward to the future and excited for each and every upcoming show and any chance to play or record. Sept. 24 - Feldbach, Austria - Glam Sept. 25 - Kecskemét, Hungary - Kilele Music Club Sept. 26 - Budapest, Hungary - S8 Underground Club Sept. 27 - Ljubljana, Slovenia - Prulcek Sept. 28 - Salzburg, Austria - Narrencastl Sept. 29 - Dortmund, Germany - Subrosa Sept. 30 - Stuhr, Germany - Vereinsheim TV Stuhr Oct. 1 - Brussels, Belgium - Rock Classic Bar Oct. 2 - Antwerp, Belgium - Borger Bottles Oct. 3 - Mannheim, Germany - Kurzbar Oct. 5 - Berlin, Germany - Wild At Heart Oct. 7 - Klagenfurt, Austria - Das Wohnzimmer Oct. 8 - Prague, Czech Republic - Cafe Na Pul Cesty

14. Favorite book
cat tales by craig pittman!! it’s a really good story about protecting mountain lions in florida and pittman writes it in such a fun and compelling way, recommended even if you aren’t a conservation bio nerd lmao
19. What are you excited for next year?
oh man so much is happening, im going to my First Ever Anime Convention™️ with my partner, doing marine ecology research in alaska, graduating, and moving across the country!! right now though it’s probably the convention with my partner since it’s the least stressful,,,
25. Did you create any characters? Describe one.
aero has technically existed for three years, but ive decided he counts since his character was more developed this year in a longer Lancer campaign-
aero aday is an evolutionary biologist whose theories are so batshit insane he’s been ostracized from basically every scientific institution on his home planet. now, he’s got a surveyor position with union liberator team 8335…because it’s sort of his last hope. it’s a pretty nice gig though, all things considered- they’ve been deployed to the planet he’s always needed to visit to prove his theories, after all. it’s unfortunate that the team is there to resolve a massive conflict between colonists and the planet’s established communities, and even more unfortunate that some kind of mechanical danger is looming over everyone from the shadows. he’s still doing alright though along with his friends, a wacky cast of characters that includes his best buddy kestrel, a little gremlin of a person he met after they fell through a wormhole. good times! i love my little aviator goggle wearing, tiger mech driving, convincingly rambling scientist so so much.

The Heart Won't Lie-3
(1) (2)
After Opie's burial, I needed peace; I knew I couldn't handle all the questions about where I've been and about Greer. I knew that Filip would be the most insistent one about Greer, and he had the right for all his questions to be answered.
I didn't follow the group back to the club house, I first drove aimlessly through Charming; just listening to the radio. Traveling down memory lane, trying to have some happy memories to my past. I knew where I was going to end up, the only place I could find peace, and get a break in Charming; the cottage I had bought on the outskirts of Charming.
Nobody knew about it, the cottage was actually difficult to fine; unless you had directions. It was another secret that I had kept from Filip. I bought it months before I left, it was going to be a surprise. I pulled down the long private drive, I hoped the caretakers had gotten my message and had it ready for us.
"Mommy, where we at?" Greer's little voice whispered from the back.
"Home." I said simply.
Chibs was pacing the clubhouse, he was worried, and livid. He had expected (Y/N) and Greer to come back to the clubhouse after Opie's burial. When they didn't show up, he started to become concerned. Gemma hadn't heard from them, there was no located them by (Y/N)'s cell phone.
"Anything Juice?" He had Juice hack into her car's GPS system.
"She's out on the county line, about 25 minutes from here. Give me a minute and I can tell you where exactly.
Chibs got an exact location and stormed out of the clubhouse.
XXX
It had been a long and exhausting day, (Y/N) kissed Greer's forehead and tucked the little girl into bed. She watched as her daughter drifted off to sleep. Tucking the blanket around Greer, she smiled down at her.
"I love you baby!" Walking out of the room, she left the door open a crack.
(Y/N) walked outside and sat on the porch swing. She was deep in thought about what she needed to do in the next couple of days. The thought of taking Greer and disappearing was appealing. The two of them could get new identities, and start over. She and Greer could become new people, and leave the country, she had plenty of money. She didn't need anyone to support her. (Y/N) could continue writing her books, that's another secret, Filip didn't know about.Y/N) knew that Filip would never let them go, she didn't want this danger for her and her daughter. The roar of a motorcycle brought her out of her thoughts. Frowning, she stood up and look. (Y/N) knew that Filip would never let them go, she didn't want this danger for her and her daughter.
"Shit!" She came off the porch, and down the drive. "How the hell did you find me?"

Chibs jumped off his bike, pulling off his helmet, glaring at (Y/N).
"I hacked your car's GPS!" His eyes glaring at her. "Since you decided to run from me and took my daugther!"
"Stalk much?" She shoved him. "Last time I checked Greer is my child, you just donated sperm!" Turning to walk away. Chibls grabbed her arm, pulling her back.
"I wouldn't have to, if you didn't run away from me! And I would be in my child's life if you wouldn't keep secrets!" His eyes were full of anger.
(Y/N) slapped him, pulling out of his grasp. She gave a harsh laugh, shaking her head.
"I don't stay were I'm not wanted or loved. You would have known about your child, but you kicked me out of your life, before I could tell you. In fact the two men that I loved the most, abandoned me when I needed them the most. So excuse me if you don't get to be apart of my or my child's life. Now pardon me...but fuck the hell off!"
Chibs watched as (Y/N) stormed towards the house, leaving him standing there in shock. He raced after her, grabbing her arm again.
"Do you really think I didn't want or love you?"
XXX
FLASHBACK 2 Years Ago
(Y/N) couldn't contain her excitement, she pulled into the garage of the house she shared with Filip. They had been together for three years, he had given her his crow two years ago.
She sat in the car, taking deep breathes, and exhaling slowly. Once she got her nerves under control, she walked into the house.
"Filip, I'm home!" She walked through the house, looking for him. She heard giggling, and Filip talking. As she got closer to the bedroom, she started to get an uneasy feeling.
Slowly opening the door, there he was, pants down around his ankles, and some strange women's head in his lap. He stopped the women when (Y/N) walked into the room.
"What the hell Filip?" She sucked back the tears and the betrayal. She just stared at him, waiting for him to say something. When nothing was said, she spun around and stormed out of the room, the tears streaming down her face.
"(Y/N), wait!" She heard his heavy boot steps running after her. She stopped, and turned around slowly. "I'm sorry, I don't love you and I never did!"
(Y/N) walked out of the house, head held high, shoulders back, not saying a word, she drove straight to her brothers house. She just needed a little comfort.
She was still mourning the loss of her father, and now Filip had just broken her heart. She opened the door, trying to hold everything together.
"Op...."
"I don't have time for your pathetic bullshit today (Y/N)! Just leave if you're going to cry and bitch!"
(Y/N) backed out of her brother's house, feeling alone. She touched her stomach, tears running down her face.
"It's just you and me baby, no one loves or wants us."

Looking Up Luke x Reader Pt 1
Tumblr media
Pairings: Luke x Reader (Briefly at the end), Julie x BestFriend! Reader
Warnings: Fluff, Brief mention of sad memories.
Word count: 2211
This is My first post so bare with me. I’ll get better at the edits and stuff as I learn my way around Tumblr. I also took inspiration from Paramore and the reader was strongly based on Hayley Williams in my mind but you can make her in your image. I don't own Paramore or their music. The song I took inspiration from is Looking Up.
“Jules, you and Flynn are coming tonight, right?” You ask while you and your best friend throw you school books in your locker after your last period. Julie looks over and smiles at you.
“Of course! The boys were wanting to tag along especially after I told them how you were in a band of your own. They wanted to know why you denied their offer after Luke heard you shred the guitar solo during that one rehearsal.” She says.
“If he thought I was shredding that guitar, just wait till they see what I really got going on. Right now all they know and all anyone knows and thinks is I play guitar for the band. Also Luke wanted me to join so he could see me everyday.” You smile.
“Wait, Jackie walked?!” She screamed excitedly.
“Yeah, after her and I got into this huge argument about the upcoming shows and letting me actually sing vocals for MY songs she walked away, and someone had to take her place. I wrote this new song we are going to play tonight, you’re going to love it.” You smile at her.
“Y/N this is amazing! Our mom’s would be so proud of us.” She smiles longingly.
“Maybe we could collaborate one day, I know you’re a bit more popish than what Paramore is but we could make something work!” You smile at her. She jumps up and down loving the idea of the whole thing.
“Yes! That would be amazing! Let's head home, we have to get ready for tonight. Oh how will we get in? I thought the venue sold out in minutes?” She asks turning to look at you as you two walk through the doors to your car. You pulled 5 vip lanyards out of your bag and handed them to her.
“I got you covered girl, don’t worry.” You smile unlocking the door. The drive back to your house was filled with you blasting all your bands old songs and singing along. You were lucky enough to live in the same neighborhood as Julie and the boys so you often carpooled to school but the boys had things to do after school before the show so they went their separate ways. Julie was trying to help you choose your clothes for tonight but with you two being so entirely polar opposite it was hard. If anyone was to help you it should have been Luke since you two share almost the same fashion sense with a hint of Reggie mixed in. You eventually settled for an old cut up Sunset Curve shirt you “borrowed” from Luke with a lace bra underneath and you paired that with your highwaisted, ripped black skinny jeans and your studded Doc Martens. What you decided to do with your hair and makeup will come to you once you hit the venue. You gathered your things to pack into the car while Julie made some final accessory details to your look. She handed you your chain to attach to your jeans along with an assortment of rings and bracelets. Everything was looking perfect for your first big performance as the lead singer.
“Okay, I gotta head to the venue for soundcheck. You, Flynn and the boys should be there around 6, the show starts at 7:00.” You smile, dropping her off at her house. You see the boys sitting in the garage waving at you. You smile and wave back before backing out of Molina's driveway and head towards The Orpheum.
Soundcheck went perfectly and it left a little time to grab a light snack before you had to get ready. You knew not to go to the street dogs stand after the incident with the boys that ended their lives 25 years ago before they met Julie and you and somehow were brought back by the two of you. Your drummer’s  girlfriend decided to have catering come out with healthy choices which you were enjoying as we speak. Heading back to your dressing room the security guard stopped you saying there was a group of people here to see the band.
“Oh that’s my friends from school, you can let them on back. Thanks Alan!” You smile popping a strawberry in your mouth.
“You didn’t tell me you were playing the Orpheum!” You hear Flynn yell causing you to turn around with a piece of cantaloupe hanging out of your mouth.
“Well you didn’t ask.” You say chewing the part that was in your mouth.
“Okay smartass. Also when did you change your hair color?” She asks pointing to your now orange hair. You smile slyly at her.
“I did last night, but I wore it up in a hat today so people didn’t see it until now.” You say getting up to hug your friends. The boys are just standing at the door staring at you.
“I don’t bite, you can come in.” You joke ushering them in.
“You’re playing the Orpheum tonight Y/N how does it feel to make it big?” Alex asks.
“I’m not sure yet, maybe I’ll know after the show. Which speaking of that when you guys head down to the floor just find Alan and he’ll take you to the spot that’s reserved for you guys.” You smile at them.
“Your hair is so bright.” Is all Reggie can say making everyone burst out laughing.
“I can’t wait to see you shred the stage tonight. That day at rehearsal when you and Julie were goofing off… Holy shit, that was sick!” Luke says jumping up and down.
“It runs in the family to be honest. Our moms were in a band when they were our age and my dad is a world known rockstar so I learned at a young age.” You smile winking at Julie.
“Well we should start heading down so you can get ready. We are going to dinner after this to celebrate just so you know.” Julie says smiling at you. Once they left you started getting ready to meet up with your band to do your before show ritual handshake.
“All right guys, this is the Orpheum. The place is packed with execs. This will be our big break. Let’s rock it!” Andrew says putting his hand in the middle as the rest of you follow. The opening band finishes their set signaling your time to go. The band runs out causing the crowd to erupt in screams of your name. You stay back to surprise everyone as they begin playing your new song.
“Los Angeles! Are you ready!” You scream from backstage as the beat picks up.
Things are looking up, oh finally!
I thought I'd never see the day
When you smile at me.
We always pull through, oh when we try,
I'm always wrong but you're never right.
Oh you're never right!
You run out causing everyone to scream as you work the stage to the music. Luke, Flynn and the boys look up in awe hearing your voice for the first time. The way you rocked out was breathtaking to Luke.
Honestly, can you believe
We crossed the world while it's asleep?
I'd never trade it in, 'cause I've always wanted this!
And it's not a dream anymore!
No. It's not a dream anymore!
It's worth fighting for.
You interacted with the audience as you sang the lyrics. You shot a wink over at Luke when you noticed his jaw nearly dropped to the floor. Julie looked over at him and knew right then and there he has fallen in love with you even more than he already was. She smiled at her bandmate. She saw the smile break across his face as he began banging his head to the beat.
Could have given up so easily
I was a few cheap shots away from the end of me
Taken for granted, almost everything that I would have died for
Just yesterday,
Just yesterday
Honestly, can you believe
We crossed the world while it's asleep?
I'd never trade it in, 'cause I've always wanted this!
It's not a dream anymore!
Oh. It's not a dream anymore!
It's worth fighting for.
You interacted with your bandmates as they played their instruments, dancing around the stage as you had the time of your life. Jumping and head banging with your guitarist.
Tumblr media
God knows the world doesn't need another band, (whoa, whoa!)
But what a waste it would've been! (whoa, whoa!)
I can't believe we almost hung it up (whoa, whoa!)
We're just getting started (whoa, whoa!)
Honestly, can you believe
We crossed the world while it's asleep?
I'd never trade it in, 'cause I've always wanted this!
It's not a dream anymore!
Oh. It's not a dream anymore!
It's worth fighting for.
You stood there smiling, taking a breath letting the crowd think you were done before you jumped off the drum stage singing the final line of the song.
I can't believe we almost hung it up!(whoa whoa)
We're just getting started! (whoa whoa)
Whoa! Whoa! Whoa!
You dropped to your knees as you held the final verse as the lights went out sending the crowd into a fit of cheers and screams. You smile to yourself as you hold the microphone in your lap. The lights come back on letting you see the crowd still cheering you on. The surreal feeling you had was causing your heart to sing and you were pretty sure you saw a sign off in the distance of the audience that let you know your mother was proud of you. Composing yourself, you finished the night with 6 more songs.
“Thank you guys for coming out to support a small band from this sleepless city. We are Paramore! Good night!” You said before running off backstage. You are met with your friends and a very starstruck Luke.
“Oh my god! That was amazing! I mean we knew you could sing but that was epic! Why haven’t you fronted before?” Flynn asks.
“Jackie wouldn’t let me. The band was my idea back when I was slowly getting back into music but I was still wanting to stay back and play. I wrote all the songs and let her sing them. When I finally said I was ready for a shot she threw a fit and when the rest of the band sided with me she walked.” You say taking a swig of water.
“So this is why you refused to join us?” Alex asks.
“That and your style isn’t my style of music. It’s to pop centric but I told Julie there might be a chance of collaboration in the future.” You smile seeing Reggie get excited about the idea.
“And then we can do a country album!” He yells causing your bandmates to start laughing at your reactions. During your laughter you didn’t see a man dressed very businessy walk in.
“Y/N…” Julie says tapping your shoulder pointing to the doorway.
“Oh, hi!” You say walking over with your band to meet the man.
“I’m Eric from Capitol records. Are you Y/N?” He asks.
“Um, y-yeah I am.” You say reaching out to shake his hand. Your friends are eavesdropping behind you while pretending to hold a conversation of their own.
“I’ve seen many bands here, I’ve scouted some of the biggest names in music but the energy you displayed tonight is something we’ve never seen but have been looking for, for our label. Capitol records would be happy to have you join. Here’s my card. Give me a call and we will set up a meeting with the head of the label and get you signed.” He says handing you his card.
“Oh my, wow! Thank you. Also if you don’t mind me spreading the word but I know of another you might be interested in. I’ll send you their latest video if you’re up for it.” You smile sneaking a look over at your friend and her bandmates.
“Of course, we are always looking for new talents.” He says before exiting the room.
“Was that?! YES!” You scream jumping into Luke’s arms. Everyone starts dancing around cheering.
“We are being signed to Capitol Records!” You yell into the air as Luke holds you close to him. His eyes never leave your smiling face. He throws caution to the wind when you look back at him and he crashes his lips onto yours making everyone stop and gasp.
“Well it's about damn time!” Alex shouts as you two pull away.
“Well damn Patterson, if that’s what I get for getting signed I wonder what I’ll get after I tell you I sent your video to him as well.” You smile.
“YOU DID WHAT?!” The band screams together.
“We’re all getting signed.” You smile.
“I’m going to marry this girl.” Luke says kissing you once more with more passion than the first. Everything was falling perfectly into place and you couldn’t wait to see what the future holds for you all.
I don't know how good this is, it sounded good and looked good when I was writing so I’m throwing caution to the wind and going for it.
@parkeret I promised I’d tag you in my first one, I hope it doesn't suck!
@issaxcharlie thank you for also pushing me to do this as well!

♡ AN: I got around to writing for Haikyuu! again and this time it’s for Oikawa, can you believe I hated this man so much that I ranted to my friend about him for a hour? Now I’m writing a smut for him the growth we love to see it~ I’m an anime only person and I know some spoilers so ignore any inconsistencies you might see because this is an anime only canon fic.
♡ Oikawa x Brazilian Fem Reader : Playing beach volleyball is a cinch no problem right? But the sight of you in a bikini is too much to bear and having a hard on while playing volleyball is hardly convenient. So when Oikawa sees you in nothing but a towel in the locker room he decides to finally make his move on you.
♡ Warning: Explicit shower smut with 27 year old Oikawa, voyeurism, semi public sex, and maybe a daddy kink at the end? Read at your own discretion.
✯ ✯ -------------------------  ✯ ✯
➢ Portuguese translation
⇢ Y/N, você está aqui? - Y/N, are you in here?
⇢ Sim, ainda estou aqui - Yes, I’m still here.
⇢ Fode me o meu amor - Fuck me, my love.
“Yoohoo! Lucas, how you been?” Oikawa said, stretching out his o’s.
His Argentinean teammate said something, but the reception was terrible.
“Hold on! Let me take this outside.” He stepped out of his air-conditioned flat out into the humid air.
The voice garbled a few more sentences before it became clearer. “C-can you hear me now?”
Oikawa grinned hearing the familiar voice. “Yeah! What’s up?”
Though, he will always cherish his memories with his former team in Japan. Oikawa was now connecting with his national team as well as creating bonds and chemistry on par with his friends back home.
“Alright, amigo, I just did you a huge favor. You’re going to love me and I’m demanding more of that milk bread from you.”
He felt the familiar irritation every time someone claimed his milk bread. Oikawa only shared his milk bread with his teammate because he never tasted the magnificence of the treat. He almost suffered a heart attack when Lucas asked what was so good about bread.
“No promises, but I’m listening,” Oikawa replied as he looked over the night sky of Bueno Aires, it felt gratifying to know that a Japanese boy from a small town now lived in one of the biggest cities in Argentina.
“You remember telling me to help out with your little crush on Y/N, right?”
He rolled his eyes and pouted, “I don’t recall asking for your help! I just asked if she was single. That’s two different things!”
Oikawa remembered when he first saw Y/N at the 2021 Tokyo Olympics, he had been ecstatic to go home despite representing another country. It was his debut performance on a world stage. So, he walked around Tokyo for a while before heading back to his hotel to prepare for his match. When Oikawa turned on his T.V., he noticed it was the Women’s volleyball finals between Brazil and the U.S. It seemed like the Japanese women didn’t make it. He watched for a few minutes absentmindedly before he got distracted by player 24 from Brazil. She was the ace and was quite short, but it seemed like the average height for the female players. She was quite good, stealing point after point from their opponents. But that wasn’t what caught his attention. But rather her amusing victory dance each time she gained a point for her team. Y/N would obnoxiously dance in front of the net making her opponents furious.
Oikawa grinned childishly; he knew she was doing it on purpose as the U.S. team started making amateur errors as the gap between the two teams widened. It was a good strategy, one that he himself used on opponents that irritated him like his former kouhai, Kageyama. But his involved taunting, not twerking in front of his opponents. He didn’t think he would look half as good as she did.
From there, it was mere curiosity as to who the player was. She was quite pretty with her long curly hair and golden skin. He didn’t think he would meet her the very next day as she chatted with Lucas in Portuguese. He had no idea his Spanish speaking teammate even knew Portuguese. She had glanced over to him and introduced herself in rich accented English.
“Hello, I’m Y/N L/N. Nice to meet you.” She held out her hand.
He shook it, marveling at the softness despite the calluses he felt on her palm.
When she left to go find her team, Oikawa turned to Lucas and asked in a casual voice, “soooo… are you two together or something?”
Lucas just grinned at him and shook his head.
“Nah, she’s my how you say… my tomodachi.”
From there Lucas had taken it upon himself to get the two together, which didn’t work well after the Olympics were over as he returned to Bueno Aires and she to Brazil.
“So, anyway I told her that you would do it in place of me! Isn’t that great?” Oikawa snapped out of his thoughts as Lucas continued.
“Wait what? Repeat that last part.”
He heard an aggravated sigh from the phone.
“Y/N participates in a beach volleyball competition every summer for charity. Her usual partner is gone, and she asked me, but I told her that I hurt my ankle. So, I volunteered you for the job!”
Oikawa blinked as the words registered in his mind.
“B-but I’ve never played professional beach volleyball before.”
Sure, he’s played some matches for fun every now and then. But surely a legitimate competition is different than screwing around with a beach ball.
“Ehh, it’s the same sport just with different rules. But don’t let that get in your way. This is your chance!”
Since he came back from Tokyo, Oikawa did sort of miss her and he hadn’t connected with any of the girls he met since.
“Alright fine. Let’s do this. How hard can it be?”
From there Lucas gave Y/N’s number to him. He immediately texted her and they figured out a schedule to practice together a few months before the actual tournament. Thankfully with the Olympics over, he no longer had to be in Argentina for the rigorous team practices and was free to go to Brazil as he pleased. So, a few weeks later he reached the coastal city Ubatuba in Brazil, ready to finally take a crack at beach volleyball.
Oikawa was munching away on his toast when he heard a knock in his hotel room. He quickly downed his breakfast smoothie and made his way to look through the peephole to see Y/N standing outside waiting patiently. He unlocked the door and let her in.
“Hey. How was your flight?” She asked as she kissed his cheek in greeting.
Oikawa felt his face get warm and tried not to get too excited over the fact that she had kissed him. He knew it was part of the friendly culture, but he couldn’t help the flutters that erupted from the gesture.
“Not too bad. Only two hours long.”
“Hope you’re ready to practice today. My friends and I have a court set up at Praia de Santa Rita. It’s a private beach we reserved and afterwards there are tons of restaurants we can go to for dinner,” Y/N said as she looked around the fancy hotel he had booked. He smirked at her reaction of course he deserved nothing but the best.
The two of them stepped out of the hotel and his eyes widened at the sight of her large jeep. Y/N jumped in and waved him inside. He carefully maneuvered himself in, hopefully, she wouldn’t drive too crazily.
“Put on your seat belt, you’ll need it!” Y/N screamed gleefully, and she revved up her jeep before pulling out of the parking lot. Oikawa’s nails dug into the seat’s handles while he held on tightly as she swerved around the tight corners without slowing down. His face continued to pale as she kept driving before finally pulling next to a beach. He carefully let himself out and his legs felt like jelly.
Oikawa gasped out, “y/n, please don’t ever drive again for everyone’s safety.”
He only heard the remnants of her door slamming and her giggles while she walked away. Oikawa followed her coming onto a rest area.
“Ok, this is where the restrooms and locker rooms are. So, get changed if you need to and then just follow the signs down to the beach,” she told him before heading inside herself with a small bag in her hand. He himself had brought along a change of clothes some shorts and a tank top with some sunscreen. Oikawa learned the hard way how important sunscreen was under the intense sun here when he turned into a lobster. After getting changed he found himself on the warm sand with the hot sun beating on his head. There was a volleyball net set up in the middle of the sand and there was a small group there getting warmed up as they spiked the ball from one side to the other.
“Hey! Good you’re here now we can get started,” a voice called from behind him. He turned around to see Y/N dressed in a small violet bikini which left little to the imagination. Her toned body and caramel skin caused his own body to burn with undisguised want.
“Are you playing in that?” He yelped.
Y/N looked down at her bikini confused, not seeing anything wrong with it.
“Yeah? What else would I wear? I mean sand gets everywhere. I can’t exactly wear a volleyball uniform on the beach,” she said with teasingly.
The flush on his cheek became brighter and he couldn’t exactly blame this on the hot sun either.
“So, what do you know about professional beach volleyball, Toru?”
His face immediately blossomed with a smile. He still wasn’t used to people openly calling him by his first name without honorifics despite being out of Japan for a few years now. But with Y/N it sounded natural and perfect coming out of her mouth. Though she didn’t exactly pronounce his name correctly, she rolled the rs too much. Oikawa never tried to correct her because he found her pronunciation absolutely sensual.
“Aren’t the rules mostly the same?”
Y/N shook her head. “Not exactly. A beach volleyball court is smaller and instead of six players, there are only two. Meaning only me and you are going to protect the entire court. There are no setters, liberos, or blockers. The two players usually divide it into two sides, protecting the left and the right. Beach volleyball games are usually faster, and it's usually played to 21 points instead of 25.”
Oikawa now understood why Lucas had readily volunteered him to become her partner. It would require time and dedication to become decent at the game which he was all too ready to bestow on her.
“Is that all?” he asked looking down at her.
Suddenly, he heard loud yells as the ball headed towards their area and he instinctively grabbed it before it hit either of them. But as soon as he touched it, the ball felt weird. It was lighter and bigger than the average volleyball.
“Oh, and the volleyball is different as you can see.”
Y/N patted his back and said, “come on. Let’s start.”
There were two other girls on one side of the court while he and Y/N occupied the other. She passed off the ball to him for his serve. Y/N went to stand in the top left while he served from the right baseline. He was just about to toss up the ball when he noticed something incredible.
Oikawa bit his lip to contain his groan, the sight was pure torture. It wasn’t fair to him and really any man. Y/N was standing in front of him with her knees bent, ready to receive any serve coming her way. There wasn’t anything wrong with her stance, in fact, if she was wearing her volleyball uniform, she would be doing her job like any other volleyball player professional or otherwise. However, in her bikini the forbidden scene made him feel like the worst type of peeping tom. But he couldn’t help it as he messed with the ball in his hand. Her position was perfect for him to saddle up behind her and press his cock against her clothed cunt. Her round ass cheeks were entirely exposed as the bikini bottoms were stretched against her body and the vaginal lips were apparent even against the dark purple fabric.
Which genius made it a thing to play volleyball in bikinis? Whoever it was Oikawa wanted to strangle and thank them from the bottom of his heart all at the same time.
He jerked his face away from Y/N’s body and tossed the ball in the air only to completely miss. The ball just tumbled a few feet from his person. Y/N turned around to give him a concerned look and gave him a thumbs up.
“It’s ok!” she yelled out before focusing back on her opponents.  “Keep going!”
‘Don’t look. Don’t look. D-O-N-T! LOOK! Ah fuck it,’ he thought as his eyes went right back to her ass. Honestly, he thought about possible sex with Y/N multiple times, but they were always fantasies with her on the bottom or on top riding him. But never from behind, clearly, he didn’t know what he was missing. His breath hitched when she bent down just a little further before righting herself again. He could probably call for an impromptu break and take her to the side for a private conversation. Maybe finally have that kiss they’ve both been craving for a long time before pushing her against a wall or a tree. He could hike her legs around him and fuck her until her voice was hoarse from screaming his name while her cunt creamed on his cock.
“Come on, Toru! Let’s go!” Y/N yelled as she effectively ruined his daydreams.
Ok, he had to focus now. Absolutely. The ball was once again in the air and he hit it with his palm only for it to hit the net. ….
Was it possible to bury only the face in the sand? He might have a need for that in just a few minutes.
Just as he was about to serve again his eyes wandered right back to Y/N’s backside, but this time she turned around at the same time to meet his eyes. His eyes widened and he quickly faced the front once more.
“Time out!” he heard Y/N say.
Y/N quickly walked towards Oikawa and stared him down.
“Have you been staring at my ass this entire time?”
He swallowed and coolly responded with a “no.”
“I’m not stupid, Toru! Is this going to be a problem for you?” she asked with her arms crossed and stern.
There was no point in lying, she already caught him red-handed so instead, he shrugged.
“It’s not my fault the view’s just too good. I’m only a man,” he said with a low voice.
“Y-you!” She seemed flabbergasted and amused at the same time. Y/N let out a snort and chuckled a few times before snatching the ball from his hands.
“Just go block for now. I’ll serve.” Y/N pointed to the same spot she herself was standing at. Oikawa being entirely shameless just ran his fingers through his hair and winked at Y/N before taking his spot at the front. The two women that were their opponents seemed to be hysterically giggling as well, guess he wasn’t as subtle as he thought he was. So, Oikawa just waved at them good-naturedly and readied himself for a rally.
It looked like Y/N wasn’t as distracted as him because she served without any problems and the game continued. It was much more difficult than he initially thought. While indoor volleyball was a team effort and everyone had to do their part, now Oikawa was responsible for everything. He was running around diving for the ball like a libero and even doing his own spikes as Y/N set a toss perfectly for him. Before he knew it, the game cycled through 6 sets faster than he was used to. That was another thing he noticed beach volleyball’s sets were much faster paced. Usually, he would take his time to dissect and figure out the opponent’s weaknesses before setting up tosses for his team. Now he had no time for that as he dived and ran after the lighter ball. Not only that he had to consider the weather, but the winds were also messing up his shots. Each time he aimed for the tight corners they would get blown out of bounds. Beach volleyball wasn’t harder necessarily, but it was definitely a challenge to learn.
After a couple more sets, Y/N called for a break. She handed him a cold-water bottle from the cooler while she drank some Gatorade.
“So, how long have you been playing beach volleyball?” he asked after swallowing the refreshing water.
“As long as I’ve been playing volleyball. It’s part of the Brazilian team’s routine. Playing beach volleyball actually makes you a better, well-rounded player,” she said as she put the tightened the Gatorade’s lid on and put it back in the cooler.
Y/N stepped closer to him and leaned into his face.
“Don’t think I’ve forgotten about you staring at my ass. I can’t have you missing your serves during the tournament,” She snickered, he felt her hot breath against his ears, causing shivers to erupt across his body.
Oikawa just leaned in even closer, deliberately eyeing her lips for a moment before staring back in her eyes.
“And what exactly do you plan on doing if I don’t stop?”
Instead of getting flustered and putting space in-between them, she instead stepped even closer to him and blinked innocently at him, her eyes dilating and enrapturing him.
“Behave and if you’re a good boy. I’ll reward you, promise,” she muttered just low enough for him to barely hear.
Y/N pecked his cheek and she lingered there for a moment, he could bask in her closeness and smell the remnants of the shampoo from her long hair.
“Y/N! Come on let’s play again,” her friend shouted from halfway across the court.
“Looks like time’s up. I’ll let you serve this time,” Y/N giggled and ran back to start the game again.
Oikawa felt embarrassment choking him on the inside and vowed not to mess up too badly again. He made his way back to the court and grabbed the ball, he deliberately didn’t look at Y/N as she once stood at the front to block. This time he hit one of his more powerful serves and found that most of the power didn’t transfer over to the ball, but he was able to slightly control the ball better this time. The rally continued on until the sun had turned orange and was about to set. Eventually, the group decided on another date they could meet up and practice again for the tournament.
When everything was packed up and put away, he and Y/N made their trek back up the beach to the resting area again.
“Hey, since we won’t be able to practice until next Saturday again. What say me and you practice by ourselves?”
Y/N looked up from her phone and nodded affirmatively.
“Sounds like a good idea. Practice matches once a week probably won’t help unless we get some practice of our own.”
Oikawa bit his lip, hesitating for a minute before asking her.
“Also, since I’m here, you mind showing me around? This is the first time I’ve been to Brazil.”
Y/N again nodded but with more enthusiasm this time as she regaled about tales of the amazing tourist spots and restaurants they could explore in their free time. The two of them went inside the rest area and he went into the men’s locker room to take a quick shower before changing into his clothes.  Just as he stripped down and stepped into the shower, he heard a crash and scream coming from the hallway. He turned off the water and tugged a fluffy towel around his waist before walking to track down whatever made the sound. When he walked out to an empty building, he heard Y/N’s voice distinctly cursing coming from the women’s locker room.
“Y/N? You alright?” Oikawa called out, he waited for a few minutes to hear her reply and when she didn’t respond he stepped inside. He peeked inside carefully just in case there were women walking around. He heard some clutter falling onto the floor a few feet away so following the noise he found Y/N in a towel trying to pick up her items.
“You ok?” he asked concerned. Y/N startled and lost her balance, tumbling onto the locker room’s floor.
“Toru, what are you doing in here? This is a woman’s locker room.”
“I know I thought I heard a woman screaming and then I heard your voice, so I came to check if you were ok.”
She sighed and pushed her dripping wet hair from her face. “Yeah, I’m ok I slipped in the shower, and then I realized I brought my phone into the shower, so I came to put it away, only to drop everything inside of my bag.”
Oikawa was about to bend down and help. “Here let me help.”
Y/N held up her hand and replied, “it’s ok I got it.” She gathered all her items and put it all away along with her phone.
Just as she was about to get up, the water that had been dripping from her body and hair gathered on the floor and made the tiles slick. Her foot slipped and she was about to hit the ground hard when Oikawa grabbed her in time before she could. However, Y/N lost her hold on the towel around her body and it exposed her chest and curves to his naked eyes. He quickly turned his head away while keeping a secure grip on her.
“Ahh! Don’t look!” she screamed and slapped her hands over her breasts. “Did you see anything?”
Oikawa swallowed and wished he could tell her no, but he sort of caught a glimpse at the body he had been craving to touch and feast his eyes on since he met her. So, he should opt to keep quiet.
“It’s ok, it’s nothing I haven’t seen before!” Except he panicked and opened his mouth.
“What does that even mean you jerk!” He could feel her try to pull away from his arms.
“Wait that came out wrong, I swear!”
Oikawa turned back around and felt blindsided by Y/N’s beauty. She was soaked to the bone, but never did she look more beautiful to him than in that moment.
“You’re so….” He trailed off. She looked at him a little confused and quit trying to pull away.
“So what?”
He leaned in and caressed her cheek. Oikawa didn’t finish his sentence and instead just connected their two lips. As he sensually captured her lips, Y/N eagerly responded back to him as if she had been desperately waiting for this just like he was. Keeping one hand on her chin to angle her face, his other hand traveled down to her naked bosom. He reverently caressed and tweaked her dusky peaks while expertly maneuvering the kiss. Y/N whimpered with want when his tongue brushed up against hers. He smirked at her reactions as her breathing started getting more erratic and her cute noises became louder and louder. They only broke apart when he heard people approaching the locker rooms.
Just as Oikawa was about to move away from Y/N, she grabbed his hand.
“The far-left shower at the end,” she jerked her head towards it.
He smiled with excitement knowing that she wanted to continue as much as he did. Grabbing and picking her up like she weighed nothing, he hurried to the shower and tugged the shower curtain shut.
Just in time too as he could hear women laughing and talking in Portuguese.
“Y/N, você está aqui?” a woman called out.
Y/N for her part looked startled at being addressed and pushed away Oikawa’s hands that were still playing with her chest.
“Sim, ainda estou aqui,” Y/N responded in a clear voice. She shot a warning look to Oikawa as his hands found themselves back on her hips and making their way back up. He only cheekily smirked at her and returned to pawing at her cleavage.  She waited for a few minutes to hear her friend’s footsteps retreating before pulling Oikawa closer and aggressively kissing him. He tugged the towel around his waist off and hiked Y/N’s silky legs around him.
He carefully maneuvered to turn the shower’s knob and set her against the wall while a jet of hot water poured over them. And Oikawa went right back to devouring her mouth and grinding against her hot cunt. As soon as his cock made contact with her tingling clit, Y/N’s body spasmed and she tried to tug him closer. Her ankles interlocked at his waist and she tried to thrust below to encourage him to enter her. But he only chuckled at her excitement and continued to slowly slide back and forth. Y/N forgetting for a moment where she was exactly, enraged by his teasing smacked his thigh loudly enough to echo in the locker room.  Oikawa let out a low grunt and thrust full throttle into her. Her eyes widened at the sudden entry and she couldn’t even contemplate the fullness before he withdrew quickly once again.
“Fode me o meu amor,” Y/N begged.
Oh, that just wasn’t playing fair. He didn’t know what she said but her breathless voice and her needy eyes made him helpless.
As if he could no longer bear to be apart without the drenched enclosed intimacy, he reentered without warning. Oikawa fucked her with the same hell-bent concentration he played volleyball with. She covered her mouth with her hand to contain the moans, that only muffled the noises rather than stopping them completely. The faster pace caused Y/N to skid up and down on the shower walls. She tried to find purchase against the tiles, but the hot water droplets caused her to loosen the grip. His breathing got heavier and uneven, why was it he could handle hours of volleyball, but the vise grip of her cunt made him want to spill inside of her like an immature adolescent?  He removed her hand covering her moist lips and thoroughly kissed her. He swallowed her moans and they stood in the shower making love for god knows how long. His hand found her engorged clit and his middle finger started pressing slow circle while his thumb and point finger started pinching it in time to his thrusts. Just as she was about to cum, Y/N buried her face in his neck. She bit down hard on his shoulder trying to contain the shrieks she wanted to let out. It wasn’t long before her spiral started to pull him as well, the constriction creating a perfecting suction to swallow his juices. He placed a hand on the wall to stabilize himself just before he pulled out of her and came all over her thighs. The water soon washed away all the evidence of their tryst as it flowed down the drain.
“Does the hot water feel that good?” Y/N’s friend called out. Soon of the other ladies started giggling and laughing along. “We’re leaving! See ya, Y/N!”
The two of them didn’t move from their spot until they heard the sounds of lockers being shut and the ladies’ voices being fading further and further away.
“I think they knew…” Y/N gasped a little embarrassed and horrified.
On the other hand, Oikawa kept smiling like a goof. “I love beach volleyball now! It’s my favorite kind.”
She let out a frustrated groan. “Just get out of my way. I need to get dressed before I prune even more.”
“Maybe next time you should call me papi,” he hollered out as Y/N started to dry herself and got dressed.
“There won’t be a next time if you don’t get your butt dressed soon or I’ll leave you behind.”
Y/n when she was all dressed up and ready to go, waited for him outside of the resting area. He came out joyfully whistling away and ready to leave. Oikawa slung his arm over Y/N’s shoulder and pulled her close. He was finally taking the chance to get closer to her like he always wanted.
“You’re going to be a handful, aren’t you?” she asked tickled with his antics.
He leaned in and pecked her forehead. “You know it,” Oikawa said with a wink.

If you have not read unBEARable by @burnsoslow (catch up here) I suggest you go and read that first. There are SPOILERS in this series!
Warnings: Except cursing? Not much.
Words: 1129
Ella Brooks was sick of school.
At 25 years-old, she had already busted her ass and gotten her bachelor’s degree in history and political science.. Her parents, however, were less than thrilled about her choice in majors. She agreed to go back to school and was almost done with her bachelor’s degree in nursing at the University of California in Los Angeles, just needing a semester of an internship for graduation. Ella had already told all of her professors that she wasn’t doing an internship abroad before graduation. It was the sudden break up with her long time boyfriend that made her change her mind and want to get the hell out of California.
As Ella walked to her car from campus - she had put in a study session at the library - Ella heard loud laughter echoing from the outdoor bar next to where she parked. That sounds an awful lot like … she narrowed her eyes just as she saw that it was her boyfriend Ethan. He was laughing with a blonde haired woman, his arm around her shoulders, face close to hers as they held onto their drinks.
Unable to contain her anger she stalked over to the oblivious pair and tapped Ethan on the shoulder. He turned and the smile he had on his face immediately fell, his eyes widened in shock.
“Uh … Ella, hey! Wh-what are you doing here?”
Ella grit her teeth and tried to compose herself. “Ethan. I was studying, as you know since you were supposed to meet me.”
“W-well, something came up after the meeting.”
Ella’s arms were folded in front of her, her brow arched. There was an awkward silence and the blonde couldn’t take it anymore.
“Hi! I’m Madeleine. Can we help you?” she said, with an oblivious smile on her face.
Ella looked at Madeleine, then back to Ethan. “Actually no, Madeleine. I think I’m done here.” Ella turned and walked towards her car.
Ethan scrambled to stand up, leaving Madeleine at the bar with a perplexed look on her face. “Ella! Wait!”
She kept walking, absolutely seething and determined to get to her car before Ethan caught up with her.
“Ella!” Ethan grabbed her arm and whirled her around. “I’m so sorry, that’s not what it looked like. W-we’re just … friends, me and Madeleine.”
“This is why you flaked out on the study session and had me sit in the library alone for hours? She was your ‘quick meeting at work?’”
“I DID have a meeting!”
“Your meeting consisted of sitting at a bar with your arm around her? Your face was right next to hers! Oh my God, Ethan! Do you think I’m fucking stupid?!”
“S-she had asked me out for a drink and -”
Ella couldn’t stand there and listen to his bullshit anymore. She wrenched her arm from his grasp and walked to her car. “We’re done Ethan,” she called over her shoulder. “I’m sick of all your excuses about all these different women being ‘just your friend’. I’m throwing out all your shit in my apartment if you don’t come get them tomorrow.” She got in her car, turned the ignition and sped off, leaving Ethan standing in the street.

Present-day
Ella dragged her carry on suitcase and personal items past TSA and customs in the Los Angeles International Airport. She stood in line for an hour just for them to wave her throug; she rolled her eyes and shook her head. Her long dark hair in two braids, she sported a plain black baseball hat, a plain grey t-shirt, black leggings and Nike sneakers.
Once Ella made it to her terminal she saw people already lining up to board. She presented her boarding pass and went through to the walkway to find her seat. The flight finally took off after a couple stragglers hurried onto the plane and sat down. Ella’s noise-cancelling headphones were a game changer. Damn these were so worth the money.
Ella thought about her life in Los Angeles and how much things have changed. That was two years of my life I’ll never get back. She knew Ethan was never devoted to her, yet she stayed with him out of … familiarity? Complacency?
Time for a new beginning. Ella settled into her seat, waited for the snacks and drinks to be distributed before she fell asleep.
**
15 hours later
Ella walked through Cordonia International Airport and went into the customs line.
“Miss Ella Brooks?” the customs agent asked while looking at her passport and paperwork.
“Yes, that’s me.”
“You’re here for a study abroad internship?
“Yes sir, I’m with the International Medical Aid program with UCLA. I’ll be a nurse intern in the Children’s Hospital at the capitol.”
The customs agent nodded. “Okay and how long will you be here for?”
“Six weeks.”
“Alright,” he stamped her passport and wrote down the dates on her paperwork. “Just know that if you plan on staying longer than that you’ll need to be employed in Cordonia. You either need to extend the dates or file for Cordonian citizenship. ”
Ella chewed on her bottom lip. Stay? “Right, thank you.”
The agent handed Ella back her documents and she was shuffled off into a van with her classmates from the study abroad program.
**
Five weeks later
In the last five weeks, Ella fell head over heels in love with the little country called Cordonia. The people were friendly, they loved to hear about where she came from and were in awe that she volunteered at a busy ER five days a week. Ella had contacted her university in Los Angeles and requested all her transcripts be sent to Cordonia University. She still had a couple more classes to finish plus her licensing exam to take; she couldn’t begin working as a nurse until those were complete. According to the U.S. embassy, she would need to find a job in Cordonia that was at least two days a week. After six months of steady work, she could file for Cordonian citizenship.
Ella walked outside the Emergency Room of the Children’s Hospital on her lunch break. She loved walking around the capitol exploring the architecture and little shops in the area. There was even a large library next to a fountain of a naked ... person that she sat in for hours. The historical books on Queen Kendra Rys were so interesting, she found herself wondering what it was like to be royalty. The small country was one of the few that was still governed by a monarchy and her political science degree made her even more excited to read the stories.
Ella’s eyes stopped at a shop that sold cronuts and quirked her brow. What exactly is a cronut? She saw two men and a woman sitting inside at a corner table that had what looked like a dozen or more cronuts in front of them. One man had on a black t-shirt with dark jeans and scowl on his face; he was sitting next to a beautiful woman with dark hair and wore a Chicago Bears jersey with jeans. Nice, someone here that knows American football. The other man had on a blue shirt with squids all over it and dark jeans as well. The man with the squid shirt was chattering away with the woman, both seemingly oblivious to the other man’s glowering. Are they going to eat all of that? She shrugged and walked in to try one. Ten minutes later she had eaten two cronuts and had a to-go cup of coffee in her hands.
Time to head back. Ella crossed the street and started towards the hospital. Out of the corner of her eye she saw a small flower truck parked on the curb. A long line had formed right outside the window and whoever was working there looked frantic. She caught a sign on the window that said Help Wanted. Ella arched her brow and stood there thinking for a moment. Oh, why not? She walked over to the window.
“Excuse me! Are you looking to hire someone?”
