(Beauty and the beast steddie)

No.6 — Stay

As Erica stated, the kids are nerds — surprisingly, even Erica herself.

So obviously the kids get interested in Eddie's stuff, the fantasy books and Dungeons and Dragons manuals and more (turns out they have been big fans of Lord of the Rings since the 50s). And now Eddie is indulging them in the world of fantasy within and beyond Lord of the Rings — that means, he's started to recount his memorable Dungeons and Dragons campaigns to them in the living room. He loves introducing dnd to kids, loved it when he ran the Hellfire club. He wonders if he can play it with these kids. Hopefully.

Eddie thinks he's got the time for it anyway. The storm is still evergoing, painting the world in a gray hue. He didn't expect to be staying here—for two days already— but he guesses it's nice. The kids. Nancy. Steve.

Steve. Since last night's talk, he already feels close to the guy. Eddie feels curious, about why he won't come out, and he nearly gets bitten by Erica when he spaces out thinking about Steve.

That's when a crow runs in.

It's a weird thing to say in your head. Why is it not flying? And how does a crow look so excited? But the kids all act like this is a normal occurrence, so Eddie decides to stay chill, too.

Not having noticed Eddie yet, (which is surprising because he is the biggest lump there) the crow urgently asks,

"Is the Eddie guy still here?"

And quickly finds him herself.

"Good, you're still here. You're staying. I mean, I'm not forcing you to stay, but I'd really like if you did. For a bit longer. You're like, a crazy good thing that's happened to us. Those dorks love you, Nance likes you okay too, And Steve, Steve likes you, he's in a good mood and that's—"

"ROBIN!"

The crow's rambling is only stopped by Steve's voice yelling from upstairs, and Eddie is honestly impressed. He's never seen anyone talk so fast, without control. The crow, Robin, only turns her head towards the stairs and shouts, "Shut up, dingus! I'm trying to do something here, for all of us!"

That causes Steve to grumble, very loudly, from upstairs and shut the door with a bang. Robin doesn't even flinch and turns back to Eddie.

"So, will you stay? With us, for a while?"

Eddie makes a pondering gesture, as if he's thinking it through thoroughly. The kids twitch beside him, waiting for his answer.

"I mean, I couldn't have left if I wanted to right now—not that I want to anyway— but yeah I'll stay, under one condition. That is, only if you answer this question."

"Shoot."

Eddie turns his expression serious, as if he's asking the most difficult question to ever exist.

"Why are you not flying?"

He doesn't know how it's possible, but Robin gives him an incredulous look.

"Have you-, have you tried flying? It takes up more energy than you can imagine. Like, I flap my wings a bit and they get really tired, it gets sore for days after, so it's best if I walk. Or hitch a ride from Steve and Max."

And that... kind of makes sense, okay. So Eddie shrugs to show he's satisfied with the answer.

"Alright, guess I'll be staying then."

"So," Eddie begins, leaning his head on the doorframe.

"I guess I'll be in your hair for a while."

Steve's voice comes from behind the door, maybe as close to it as Eddie is right now.

"I guess you will be."

They are talking with the door between them again, Eddie and Steve. This is the fourth time it's happening, because Eddie couldn't stay away after last night and just came back to the door whenever he could. He kind of likes talking like this, he's never talked through doors and somehow it feels more private, more intimate.

"Eddie, about what Robin said—"

Eddie hums, recalling the talk from before.

"Don't-, don't feel pressured to stay, okay? We, uh, the kids love you here but that doesn't mean you have to stay for us. Do... whatever you want. Go wherever you want."

Eddie gives another hum.

"You know, Steve, thanks for the offer but I like it here. Don't have anywhere else to go, anyway. I was only moving out of Indiana because I finished high school and had nothing to do and nowhere to go. Had no place in mind, actually."

Maybe this is where I was supposed to end up.

"So... yeah. I'm not staying only for the kids but for me, too."

There's a pause.

"Yeah?" It's a soft question, looking for affirmation.

"Yeah," Eddie answers.

And then he hastily adds, "And for you, too— since you like me sooo much, Stevie," just because he loves being a menace.

Eddie hears Steve's groan slip out through the crack and cackles.

"Well, don't worry— I like you too, man."

What are your favorite old/oldish movies that you’ve watched recently

the thin man (1934) - a former detective, happily retired and living on his wife's fortune, is begrudgingly dragged into investigating the disappearance of an inventor (the first of a series of thin man films, this i think is the best written/most engaging, though i came out of it with such an acute affection for the main characters--nick and nora charles--that i've since poured through the rest of the movies)

double wedding (1937) - an eccentric, out of work director who has befriended an aspiring actress and her meek fiancé finds himself in the middle of their family affairs when he comes toe-to-toe with her controlling sister, who he finds strangely interesting... hijinks ensue. (of all the movies i've seen recently, this might be my favorite. the characters are piquant and endlessly endearing)

libeled lady (1936) - a major newspaper editor is responsible for the publication of a false story on wealthy socialite connie allenbury. enlisting the help of his fiancée and a "libel-man", the editor hopes to quell the oncoming lawsuit and frame allenbury to make the story stick, but (naturally) things don't quite go as planned.

top hat (1935) - model dale tremont mistakes dancer jerry travers (who she initially likes) for the husband of a friend. as travers pursues tremont, he finds her continually put off by his attempts to get close to her, much to his confusion. (in my opinion--the best ginger rogers/fred astaire collaboration that i've seen thus far, with my favorite music/routines/story/characters)

#the first three are myrna loy/william powell pictures because i am... minorly obsessed with them as i'm going through the process of #watching their films together. they were absolutely magnificent in every way but these three really stand apart for me #and the last one is just... a miracle. the dances are beautiful. all the music is beautiful.#'the orchestra is beautiful!'#asks #also i'm sorry to only really be recommending screwball comedies it's... almost exclusively what i've been watching lately #still these have fantastically clever dialogue and i love how the characters are raised up #so despite the fact that comedies are usually thought of as being less than dramas/historical pictures/what have you #i think these are really magnificent :)!#anyhow some more serious ones that i also thought were very well done if you're not into comedies so much:#fear (1954)#crisis (1950)#the valley of decision (1945) though this one is a little slow/laborious #OH MY GOD #and it's not very recent but indiscreet (1958) was a delight. my favorite actors. a fantastic story. beautifully framed scenes.#that one is a wonderful picture in and of itself. a whole thing apart from everything else on this list

finally another quite long astrology observation post that i havent made in like 1 year maybe.... Also happy halloween guys 🎃✨

Pisces mars really gotta be careful. I am being for real. These people have a really hard time realizing or knowing who their enemies are and who aren't. Most of them also can have anger or emotional breakdowns for things that they imagine themself or things that aren't even real. These are the type of people that suddenly hate you for no actual reason. This placement is the definition of "sometimes delulu is not always the selulu." They are also the type of people to start a whole drama or fight first because of their own delusions that aren't even real and then end up blaming other people.

Asteroid Klio (84) is such an underrated huge fame indicator/potential asteroid that people rarely talk about here in this community. This is the type of fame that is until history, the type of fame that makes someone a historical figure, or at least remembered in history.

I noticed a lot of pluto in the 7th house people enjoy admiring other people from social media. Sometimes they also enjoy following social media trends from following other people too especially stuff relating to skin care or makeup or anything else that they will think to give them that "glow up". (These types of influence will be stronger if the pluto is aspecting venus too). On the other hand if they aren't admiring they could easily be jealous or envying those people who they think that looks or are doing better than themself. Or They could easily attract jealousy or envy from other people too (beware of attracting people that drains u)

I've seen asteroid toro (1685) being prominent in the astrology natal charts of a lot of people that are bullies or being bullied or being accused of bullying. The asteroid was not named after a mythological figure but a person, but it really resonates with its Spanish meaning. "Toro" is "bull" in spanish. Usually if they aren't being bullied or a bully they usually have this intimidating look to people.

(accused of being a mean girl)

I noticed most people with mars in gemini use the "spread rumors" (either fake or real ones) tactics for revenge or if they feel offended by something or someone. I am not surprised since gemini is ruled by mercury and mercury represents "communications" in general. But it works differently than virgo.

Mars in virgo revenge tactics are more into gathering proofs or receipts (either fake or real ones) then making it very detailed and very specific compared to mars in gemini .

I noticed both of the top male n female rappers in the rap game got asteroid hannibal (2152) prominent in their chart. Especially strongly aspecting mercury and 3rd house placements.

- Nicki minaj have asteroid hannibal (2152) conjunct her mercury and conjunct her neptune on sagittarius all on 0 orb.

- Eminem have asteroid hannibal (2152) conjunct his moon in aquarious in 1 orb in the 3rd house.

(for a context the asteroid hannibal is named after hannibal barca which he was the no.1 most greatest and most feared enemy of the roman empire)

I see so many people with Gemini moons really don't have a problem posting their emotions in social media publicly so all people can see. I also saw most of these people are very bad at keeping things privately to themselves. They can't really "cry or suffer in private" usually most of the time because of their own behavior.

Scorpio placements are not always private or very introverted like what most people say about the sign. I have seen many scorpio placements who just say what they think bluntly n they don't care if other people think that it is too deep or dark or offensive.

Fun fact : Did you know that the name asteroid Swift (5035) exactly conjunct taylor swift's sun in her astrology natal chart! Name asteroids r really interesting!!!!

This is controversial to say, but i have to say it. Not all women or girls who have lilith (1181) or black moon lilith (h13) prominent in their charts are a "girls girl / supporting each other women" or a "feminist". It is because most people with Black moon lilith (h13) or asteroid lilith (1181) have at least ever experienced a very long phase of their life of being cast out of a social group (well obviously this can be done by both genders either males or females social groups casting them out ).

But most of the time i see that for the Women or Girls who have Black moon lilith (h13) or asteroid lilith (1181) prominent in their chart have ever been at least ever experienced a very long phase of their life of being casted out by a social group of their female friends (most of the time because their female friends did something terrible/bad to them that leads the h13 lilith/1181 lilith women or girl being or feeling casted out from their group). This could lead to internalized misogyny about their feelings of women if they grew up without fixing this issue.

This is weird but i have seen many many many men who have venus - pluto in square,opposition or even conjunctions ended up being incels.

(as comprehensive as i can make it. corrections/additions welcome)

1919-20 (?) - Hawk is born

based on tennis trophy which shows year 1936, and hawk's statement that he and kenny were on the tennis team in 11th grade (16/17 years old).

also date on the paperweight (1937) that hawk says kenny picked out on their senior trip. spring or fall though? if spring (usual for a senior trip, just before graduation), it would mean hawk graduated HS in 1937, b. 1919. (thanks, @lestatscunt!)

June 6, 1930 - Tim is born, on Staten Island, NY

Hawk says in 1x04 (Dec 1953) that he's been working at the State Dept for "four years and ten months".

"I came out of the war with four assets: degree from Penn, a hero's war record, no particular political ideology, and a passing acquaintance with three languages. Throw in a talent for prevaricating and a taste for travel and fine clothes, you have the makings of a competent, mid-level Foreign Service bureaucrat."

Fall 1948 - Spring 1952 - Tim attends Fordham University, graduating with a degree in political science and history.

1951 - Hawk starts work for the Bureau of Congressional Relations

Tim mentions Hawk's been working there for two years during their meeting on the bench.

1952 - Tim works "the New York campaign" (presumably for Eisenhower).

1952/3? - Tim interns for three months at the Star, in the mailroom.

November 4, 1952 - Election Night, Eisenhower (R) wins the presidency. Tim/Hawk first meet and are instantly smitten. (ep 1)

February 16, 1953 to March 10, 1954 - McCarthy Hearings, part 1.

The first consisted of a series of hearings conducted by McCarthy, as the subcommittee’s chairman, throughout 1953 and early 1954 in which McCarthy alleged Communist influence within the press and the federal government, including the State Department, the U.S. Army, and the Government Printing Office.

March 5, 1953 - Stalin dies.

Late March, 1953 - Hawk/Tim second meeting

After Hawk meets Tim at the park bench, he attends a hearing where Marcus says Cohn has brought David Schine on, and then later at their lunch Senator Smith says, "McCarthy is sending Cohn and his sidekick to Europe..." This article, dated April 19, says that Cohn and Schine have been in Europe for two weeks.

Hawk mentions that it's near the end of the month, police need to make their quotas.

April 27, 1953 - Executive Order 10450 signed. Hawk goes to Tim's apartment and tells him about Kenny. (ep 1)

June 6, 1953 - Tim's 23rd birthday (Hawk 'misses' it because they weren't talking for 4 weeks. belated celebration in ep 3.)

June 15, 1953 (?) - date of the newspaper Tim is reading just before he goes to visit Hawk in ep 2, where Hawk makes him write the letter to Mary. I'm choosing to believe this is a mistake on the show's part, because this would mean that Hawk has already missed Tim's birthday.

June 19, 1953 - Julius and Ethel Rosenberg's execution. Hawk comforts Lucy about this at the end of ep 2. So, likely Hawk and Tim had their big fight very shortly before Tim's birthday, and weren't talking from end of May - end of June.

End of June, 1953 - at the end of ep 2, Tim says it's been 4 months since his last confession, making his last (proper) confession the end of Feb or beginning of March. (ie, before he meets Hawk again).

End of June or beginning of July, 1953 - weekend trip to Rehoboth Beach (ep 3)

November 1953 - G. David Schine drafted into the army (ep 3)

Christmas 1953 (ep 4)

March 16 to June 17, 1954 - Army-McCarthy Hearings (part 2) (ep 5)

The second phase involved the subcommittee's investigation of McCarthy’s attacks on the U.S. Army. Known as the “Army-McCarthy hearings,” they were broadcast on national television and they contributed to McCarthy’s declining national popularity. Five months later, on December 2, 1954, the Senate censured McCarthy.

June 6, 1954 - Tim's 24th birthday

June, 1954? - Tim/Hawk break up, Hawk proposes to Lucy (ep 5)

I believe this happens at the tail-end of the Army-McCarthy hearings, so before June 17th.

Late Nov / Early Dec, 1954 - Hawk/Tim last meeting in the tower

based on the radio program Tim is listening to, which says, "Chief Counsel Roy Cohn has resigned from the committee. And Senator McCarthy, his approval ratings plummeting, faces censure or even expulsion from the Senate."

Tim leaves for Fort Dix, for training, but is later stationed at Fort Polk, in Vernon Parish, LA. (thanks, @jesterlesbian!)

December 2, 1954 - the Senate censures McCarthy.

Summer or Fall 1956? - Tim's letter (that lucy burns) (ep 6)

Flashbacks, for context:

"Since he's giving up his apartment, Hawk insists on having a lair in the woods." // "I'm surprised that he finally agreed."

Lucy lets contractor go. // "Give me a baby."

Hawk is reading the Bristol Daily Courier, a paper located in Bristol, PA, a town in Bucks County, outside Philadelphia. I can't find any info on the one headline I can read though ("Heath Carlson breaks arws deadlock, locals proud"), so can't date this properly.

Lucy cleaning out Hawk's apartment, finds paperweight, sees Tim drop off letter.

"I went into the Army to get away from you. I thought time and distance would help. But it hasn't." If Tim sends the letter in summer 1956, it's been a year and a half since he enlisted.

Biggest question here: did lucy ask for a baby before or after she read Tim's letter??? the flashbacks don't answer this definitively.

October, 1956? - Lucy becomes pregnant with Jackson (see note under April 1957)

October 23 – November 4, 1956 - Hungarian Revolution of 1956

October 23, 1956 - April 30, 1957 - Hungarian Refugee Crisis

November 8, 1956 - Operation Safe Haven commences

President Eisenhower declared that 5,000 Hungarians would be awarded visa numbers remaining under the 1953 Refugee Relief Act

Spring 1957? - Tim sends telegram. It looks like 05-??-???? to me, which doesn't really make sense if McCarthy died on May 2nd, but it's hard to make out. or maybe telegrams used the date format dd-mm-yyyy.

nb. because Tim already had his bachelors (from Fordham, majoring in history), I could see him entering a much-accelerated BSW program, transfering a lot of credits from his previous degree. That would give him maybe 2 more years of university, plus the required 3 years of post-BSW work = 5 years minimum before he earns that business card.

hi CT, unsure if this has been asked before (likely) but im gonna shoot. what is the actual historical origin of witches/witchcraft? especially in the sense of the term itself, but also whatever folk practice it may have come to refer to. it's so hard to get a straight answer about this because, well, you know.

Witchcraft isn't really a historical thing at all. What people consider witchcraft is the result of a big ball of things that the Catholic church declared to be Not Allowed.

In the late 1700s there was a renewed interest in pre-christian European folklore, and it kinda snowballed into coinciding with the rise of Spiritualism. Around the 1850s, you had this romanticization of an imagined pre-christian past. You can see a lot of this st that shows up in stuff like the poetry of W.B. Yeats.

In the 1920s you get Margaret Murray and her (entirely debunked) theory that "Witchcraft" was a actually a unified secret religion that survived the witch burnings of the late medieval era.

Then in 1954 a retired Rosicrucian named Gerald Gardener basically said "we should treat that as real and make a religion around it." And then he did that.

1969

Moonshot: Apollo 11, the first manned lunar landing, successfully lands on the moon.

1974–75

Watergate: Political scandal that began when the Democratic National Committee’s headquarters at the Watergate office complex in Washington, DC was broken into. “I should call her,” David huffed as his hand ghosted over the phone.

“Then why aren’t you?” Paul asked, smoking a cigarette.

“I should call her…” He repeated. “I should call her… but it’s past seven o’clock. What if she’s asleep?”

“Do you hear yourself?” Paul asked. “It’s seven! There’s no way she’s asleep.” Paul inhaled smoke.

“Yeah, but (Y/N) doesn’t seem like the type of girl to sit around and wait for a guy to call. She probably won’t be there to answer.”

“Then leave a message.” Paul took a drag and blew out smoke. “Or go give her a visit, I dunno.”

“Paul!” David practically gasped. “I can’t just go over to a girl’s house uninvited. I'm not a heathen!”

Paul snorted. “Dude, we eat people.”

“So? You know I once scored a princess with my charms and good manners—“

Paul quickly cut him off before David could go on a long ramble. One Paul had definitely heard before. “—Yeah, yeah, the Russian chick, I know. I know.” David rolled his eyes.

“Look,” Paul took another drag. “All I’m saying is, it isn’t 1954 anymore, man! You don’t have to be begging for this girl’s attention. Trying to act all innocent and impress her folks and befriend her father. You can just, call and leave a message saying you want her to come over to fuck.”

David frowned, “You don’t get it… I knew I should have brought Dwayne with me. He’s a romantic. He would understand.”

Paul threw his cigarette butt on the ground and stomped it out. “Hey, man! Out of the two of us, I’ve gotten more pussy this week than Dwayne. Dude’s been bitchless lately!”

“Yet you’re being useless right now,” David complained. “So shut up.”

“Fine, fine whatever. Call your girlfriend or whatever. When you freeze up after two words I won’t be here to help you ‘woo her’ or whatever.” Paul stepped away to smoke more, while David made his phone call.

He slowly spun the wheel of the rotary dial, each number going in one at a time. He was nervous and didn’t want to mess up.

David brought the phone up to his ear and listened to the ringing as he waited for her to pick up.

Ring.

David thought about what she might be doing. Maybe she was reading one of her little romance novels that got her all flustered when he walked into the room.

Ring.

Maybe she ran a bubble bath and was using an expensive soap. Rubbing it all over her body… she would smell nice, and David would have to try his hardest to not try and immediately sink his teeth into her skin.

Ring.

Maybe she was watching an old movie. One about some poor little Maiden being snatched up by a handsome monster of some kind. Maybe she was—

Ri—Beep! Beep! Beep!

The loud beeps of the receiver brought David out of his daydreams. He huffed and hung up the phone.

“She didn’t answer.”

“Okay?” Paul was unsure what David wanted from him.

“What do I do?”

“I dunno, man,” Paul shrugged. “Did she say she’d be busy tonight?”

“No.”

“Okay…” Paul tried really hard to think of something. “Maybe she’s working… we could go visit her.”

“She’s not. She told me she was off tonight.”

“Well, I dunno. If you don’t want to go to her house and see if she’s home, we can’t really do anything. Maybe call again.”

“I can’t seem needy!” David whined.

“Literally, dude, what do you want from me?”

“Some help,” David stated like it was the most obvious thing ever. “But clearly you don’t know what to do.”

“Sorry. Soulmates and serious shit aren’t my strong suit. You know that.”

“Yeah, but I figured you would know something. You flirt with everyone you see.”

Paul shook his head, weakly denying David’s claims. “This girl has got you practically wrapped around her finger! This is embarrassing for you.”

David crossed his arms and glared at Paul. “At least I’m not saying the wrong name during sex!”

Paul put his hands on his hips, “It was an accident!”

David stole the cigarette right from Paul’s fingers and took a drag. “It was embarrassing. That’s what it was.”

“I don’t care. Marko ate them a week later anyways.”

“Yeah, 'cause you begged him too.”

“Shut up!” Paul tried to grab the cigarette back from David, but he swatted him off.

“You shut up!”

“No, you shut up!”

“Paul!”

“David! Hi!” Both the blondes froze and looked at the person who walked over.

David quickly regained composure and pretended as if nothing happened. Paul did the same, coughing, trying to clear his throat.

“Hey, sweetheart,” David was playing it cool as if his last twenty minutes of mooning over this woman didn’t just happen. “What are you doing here?”

“I had to stop by the video store and return my movies. I spotted Dwayne, and he said you were over here.”

David could not focus on a thing she said. Instead, he just stared at her. His eyes turned into little hearts, his mind focusing on how the moonlight and the neon signs of the boardwalk made her glow. How her big smile made his dead heart beat again, and how she spoke with such kindness to him. David was a killer, and as pretty as he was, people were not nice to him.

“Dude,” Paul elbowed him.

“Sorry, what? I zoned out,” David lied.

“I just asked if you wanted to go get something to eat,” (Y/N) said.

“The lady is telling me to get lost!” Paul jokingly put his hands on his chest and faked disgust.

(Y/N) laughed, “I am not! Go and find your other boyfriends and see what they’re doing. I’m sure you’ll have fun. Come on, David,” She held out her hand for him to take.

David dropped his cigarette and stomped it out with his boot, quickly taking (Y/N)’s hand and letting her drag him off further on the boardwalk.

“So what have you been up to tonight, Princess?” David asked, wrapping an arm around (Y/N) as they walked off.

“Okay, leave without saying goodbye,” Paul said to himself, somewhat joking. “I see how it is!” He eyed his cigarette, the one David threw on the ground.

“Can I…” He squinted his eyes at the butt. “Nah...” He deemed it unsalvageable. “I’ll just have another one.”

Paul patted his pockets trying to find his pack of cigarettes. “Ugh, come on–” He pulled it out and opened it up. “Are you serious?!”

There were none left.
