November 15, 2023 - Palani Laughingthrush (Montecincla fairbanki)
Found in the Western Ghats in southwest India, these laughingthrushes live in thickets near streams in tea and cardamom plantations, scrub, forest, and sometimes gardens. They eat insects, berries, and fruit, foraging in the undergrowth, bushes, and sometimes leaf litter in flocks of six to fourteen, and occasionally up to 30, birds. Breeding from December to June, pairs build cup-shaped nests from coarse grass, moss, and fern leaves, lined with fine grass in bushes or tall ferns. Both parents incubate the clutches of two eggs and care for the chicks. They are classified as Near Threatened by the IUCN due to habitat loss in their small range.

November 2, 2023 - Orange-breasted Laughingthrush (Garrulax annamensis)
Found only in southern Vietnam, these laughingthrushes live in and around foothill and mountain forests and scrubby areas. Though their diet is unknown, they forage alone, in pairs, or in family groups on or near the ground in dense vegetation. Almost nothing is known about their breeding habits, though the species they were split from builds cup-shaped nests in undergrowth near the ground.
