The village was quieter, when Shanoa was off to one of her missions.

She was not a woman for conversations, which Laura didn't mind: she enjoyed talking, and she could tell that the other still listened to what she had to say. With time, she had even learned to read her subtle expressions, the twitches of her eyebrows, the way she cocked her head...

Sure, Laura was still eagerly waiting the day that Shanoa would crack a smile. She was confident that the woman would look radiant. But she wouldn't force it. It would make it all the more precious when it happened.

The bell on top of the door rang.

"I brought you the onyx and diamond you asked of me," a familiar voice announced.

Laura beamed. Shanoa could easily blend in the surroundings, with her dark armor, the long mane of black hair flowing behind her, and her apparently unassuming personality. And yet, her presence was tangible in the village: she was a kind, selfless person who could make everyone happy.

Well. Laura could only speak for herself, she mused.

You could tell everything about a man by the weapon he wielded.

Trevor had been entrusted with the sacred whip of his forefathers, the Vampire Killer. A strong, flexible weapon with which Trevor could shatter stone and the flesh of cursed creatures alike. He did not need to dash around the battlefield, when a single crack of the whip would send monsters run away in panic, and bring the braver ones to their knees.

Alucard, on the other hand, had a preference for swords. He could also use the dark powers inherited by his father, but Trevor was not surprised by the dhampir's reticence to resort to such means. With a hand behind his back, he counterattacked Trevor's blows with a long, thin rapier. Alucard danced on the field, with a speed and a grace that belied the inhuman strength behind his strikes. When he targeted a monster, they didn't even have the time to flee before being slashed to pieces by the dhampir's blade.

An elegant deadly weapon, for an elegant deadly friend.

"so this is a 40 hour hour (minimum) game, and even though they're both main party members, they swap places in the main party part way through and thus only interact for like 5 minutes max in the entire game, gameplay OR cutscene...the chemistry in those minor interactions and the hypothetical dynamic they could have was literally the only thing in this boring ass game that i had any real investment in. i was living off yuri fumes. and then to add insult to injury, i found out that in order to actually see substantial interaction between them you have to get PAID DLC. LITERALLY YURI TAX."

To make things easier for me, I'm counting characters who are playable in the alt mode. I'm arbitrarily choosing who counts as being a major character and who doesn't :P

5) Joachim Armster. Utterly fascinating minor antagonist, in design and powers and backstory. A guy attempting to overthrow his vampire creator, only to be tortured into insanity? What did they plan to do with him?

4) St. Germain. While in the grand scheme of things he was a bit of a waste, I can't deny how funny he is and how engaging the fight against him is. He has that trickster charm, I can't help it!

3) Laura (OoE). Yes, very minor, but still. She's the most interesting villager for me, for very, uh, shippy reasons lmao. I just like her calm attitude and her determination in making Shanoa smile no matter what :)

(I would have counted Albus because I love him and his relationship with Shanoa, but his role is too major for the scope of this question :P he would rank high up in a hypothetical top 5 rival list, just sayin' ;) )

2) Maxim Kishine. ... listen I'll count him as a side character because technically the villain is his evil side, shut up my list my rules >:( anyway. I already talked about him. I love the he and I wish more was done with him <3

Julia Laforeze. I also talked about best merchant witch. She deserved more. Like being appreciated for who she is and not for who she looked like :(

Honorary mention to Rosaly, who... saying that she's chilling on the edge is being very generous, but she's still my girl and I love her <3

Time for the second Lord of Shadow! The Lord of Vampires, Carmilla! She shows up technically in both games, but I'll go into detail later on that.

So, I'm not certain about her part in the main series, but these are a few pics that I could find of her!

Honestly, I love these designs! I think these really fit her personality! Of course, again, I only know what she's like in LoS. Now, in LoS she shows up in three different forms. So in order: Her Lord of Shadow form, her beast form, and her human form.

I love her battle in LoS1, but she is the easiest Lord to win against in my opinion. When I first played through the game, Cornell took me seven tries, and I beat Carmilla on the first try. In LoS2, the castle uses her human image to try and seduce Dracul back under its control. You do get a game over if you accidentally pick her over Marie. Her stealth maze section is one of the most painful things to go through. The only one more of a pain is Agreus.

Getting back to her in LoS1. She is a fun boss, the final QTE for her is SO good! That scene is one of my strongest pieces of evidence that Gabriel probably wasn't a human to begin with. She has sired a ton of vampires in LoS1, including a child she kidnapped and adopted, and demons as well. It also states, that in a moment of remembering who she was, she imprisoned Frankenstein and Olrox uses him as an endless blood bag. Anyway, these are the vampires that you face off with!

Starting with the basic vampire. One holy water, and you can insta kill them, nothing super special.

Next comes the Demon-Vampire Brothers, Brauner and Olrox. They are known as ancient vampires, which are demons who were summoned on Earth, possibly by a certain Bernhard, and got turned into vampires by Carmilla. Brauner and Olrox are the only two you face off against. Also, there is a puzzle with Olrox's blood when you defeat him, and if you had a TV like mine at the time, make sure your brightness is as high as it can go. Brauner on the left, Olrox on the right.

Then there is Laura. Laura was a child, around the age of 9-12, that Carmilla kidnapped and turned. Your introduction to her is her challenging you to a game known as the Vampire War Game. Admittedly, it's difficult but really fun. However, she is a very important character. She is also one of the rare cases, where you can play as a character that isn't a Belmont. During the DLC of LoS1, she calls Gabriel and has him help her defeat a demon known as The Forgotten One. However, in order for Gabriel to face off with said demon, he needs to be turned. Laura gives him the curse of Vampirism, and Gabriel grants her eternal rest. She also battles Gabriel with living rag dolls, and they are the most difficult things in the castle, next to the chef. Anyways, this is Laura!

Also! In LoS2 there is a hidden room in the castle, known as the Forbidden Room. Inside this room are two tombs. One is dedicated to Marie, the other one is dedicated to Laura. So Gabriel did think highly of this child, and clearly he adored her enough to dedicate a space in the same area as his beloved. I still think he saw her as a daughter, and that is a hill I will die on. Oh, yeah this is what I could find of her in the main games, where she is an adult character:
