haikyuu!! + things they do when they’re not okay

so i’ve been feeling not okay for a while and figured i’d write headcanons about it instead of dealing with my problems :D (some of these are not healthy coping mechanisms pls don’t do them)

Hinata: just like what he did in his first days in brazil, this boy stress-eats for comfort. sometimes he’ll walk all the way to the convenience store to buy a meat bun and slowly eat while sitting on the sidewalk

Kageyama: goes for a run by himself. his route isn’t planned like his daily ones, he just lets his thoughts flow as his legs take him wherever they feel like going

Tsukishima: lies on his bed with the lights turned off and listens to true crime podcasts. sometimes he’ll open a bag of apollo candies and eat them slowly

Yamaguchi: goes out of his way to help people more than usual in order to validate himself. he’ll probably buy some fruit and bring them to practice for his teammates. only tsukishima knows the reason why he does this

Ennoshita: stalks his friends’ social media accounts to check on what they’re up to. somehow, seeing his friends happy and knowing that they’re up to a bunch of weird antics makes him happy

Tanaka: he goes unusually quiet so his friends quickly notice that he’s not feeling well. any words of reassurance from them, or a pep talk from noya, helps him feel a little better

Nishinoya: will openly talk about his problems with his friends. more often than not he’ll show up at asahi’s house uninvited or message tanaka late at night but his friends don’t mind at all

Daichi: distances himself from other people, most likely will turn off his phone and go somewhere on his own like the movies or just ride a bus around town for an entire day

Sugawara: goes to the playground he used to frequent when he was younger and sit on the swings by himself all alone with his thoughts

Asahi: takes really long showers and sits in the tub by himself with music playing in the bathroom. sometimes he’ll even listen to ‘sounds of nature’ playlists

Oikawa: he’ll lock himself inside his closet, hug his knees to his chest, and then just cry it all out. most of the time, his crying session will end after he gets a text from his friends

Iwaizumi: will literally work out until he passes out from exhaustion on the ground. lately, he realized how dangerous this was so he goes for a run instead

Hanamaki: he’ll write self-deprecating tweets and share memes about being sad until someone actually asks him what’s wrong. more often than not, he’ll dodge the question

Matsukawa: he has a folder of obscure and funny videos he likes to watch (like ‘don’t hug me i’m scared’ or terrible disney amv’s). by the time he’s crying with laughter he tells himself he’s fine

Ushijima: has a hard time telling whether he’s feeling okay or not and it’s usually tendou who picks up on it before ushijima does. he’s slightly surprised whenever tendou calls but can’t deny that he feels much better afterwards

Shirabu: becomes even more snappy and sarcastic than usual and he doesn’t really stop until he realizes that he may have gone too far and feels bad about it

Semi: idly picks and strums his guitar alone in his room. he likes to play a song he’s a bit familiar with like ‘wonderwall’ or ‘hallelujah’

Tendou: on the outside, he doesn’t act that much different and seems like his usual normal (weird) self but when he’s by himself he just stares at the ceiling for a long time

Goshiki: actively seeks some form of affection or affirmation from his friends. he’ll work even harder at practice for his teammates or coach to say that he did really well and feels a bit happier when they do

Kuroo: watches his favorite movies, basically the ones he’s watched since he was a kid, and settle down with a huge bowl of popcorn. sometimes he’ll invite bokuto or kenma over

Kenma: plays something like Sims 3, Minecraft, or Stardew Valley with no concept of time. since kuroo’s friends with him on Steam he can tell when kenma’s not feeling okay so he’ll ask to play with him

Yaku: he’s unable to sleep when he’s not feeling okay so he ends up falling asleep in class during these times. at night, he’ll try to go on walks to tire himself

Lev: immediately opens up to his sister because they’re so close. he’ll knock on her room and hug a pillow on her bed while telling alisa about his problems

Bokuto: he’s completely transparent so his teammates always notice when he’s down. if he’s more sad than usual, akaashi suggests ditching practice and going out to eat somewhere instead

Akaashi: he has a secret tumblr blog where he writes down all of his thoughts whenever he’s not okay. some are frustrations, some are just intrusive thoughts he wants to let go of. either way, it helps

Atsumu: completely neglects to take care of himself. he’ll forget to eat and wouldn’t realize he’s been wearing the same clothes for days

Osamu: he’ll eat the same thing for days, something like instant mac and cheese or canned soup, because he can’t think of eating anything else

Suna: just falls into a deep sleep that can go on for more than ten hours. it stresses his friends out so when suna wakes up, there are about 28 miss calls from his friends

Kita: calls up his grandmother and all of his friends to just ask how they’re doing, he’ll let the conversation go on for hours if they need to

Sakusa: he actually owns a little reversible octopus keychain that he keeps on his bag (its the one where you flip depending on your mood). komori and his msby teammates check on the octopus from time to time

Meta #10 : Remus and... the end

Hello, let's have a last meta before I wave goodbye (there might be bonus materials, but I'm gonna take a break because I'm HELLA tired lol).

About Remus: As I said here, Ficus, who portrays her, is the one who questioned the « racebending » of Hugo's characters and it's because of her remark that I decided to include other novels’ characters in ZeVlog. Remus comes from Stella, a novel from 1848 written by Emeric Bergeaud. Ficus recommended it to me and told me that she could only portray someone lightskin or mixed and so the character of Remus fits the requirement. Stella is a retelling of the Haitian revolution in the form of a myth. What made Ficus uncomfortable is the use of a white woman, Stella, as a symbol of freedom, which was a strategy for Emeric Bergeaud to gain legitimacy and... reassure our white asses, I guess (there are nice white people we can identify with yeaah.... erh). But well... awkward ? I guess. Not for me to comment. Besides that, the book is a very interesting reading and, as Remus said in the 23rd vlog, you have everything typical of Haitian literature : praising of the landscape which appears as a paradise, revolution, and classical references (Remus and Romulus).

I considered another book written later by a « Francophone » writer, La Grève des bàttu by Aminata Sow Fall, which is an amazing read with complex layers about class struggles, but maybe it was less relevant because it was about conflicts whose seed came from colonizers and capitalism, but between black people and also it was written way later while Emeric Bergeaud was alive at the same time as Hugo. In any case, there are many badass women in this book and it's short and nice! Go read it.

Due to scheduling (the video with Ficus is the last I shot), this episode wasn't scripted and thus... is the longest one and the penultimate. Symbolically, I think it works. It actually anticipates or echoes some stakes of the last video.

In any case, I hope you enjoyed this... mess ahah. I know my production value wasn't high and we had some technical shit (the sound on episodes 17 and 22 and light on episode 23) which drove me to despair, but it's coherent. I think my ambition to have a « realistic feel », a real « DIY » punk feel at all cost made it a bit hard to watch at first and also it made it hard to advertise the series properly... like Grantaire wouldn’t make a trailer for their series on their channel while everything is not supposed to be shot already, etc. But like, I feel like I'm coherent at least. Lol. This looks leftist. Definitely not a neoliberal series with a pseudo-progressive agenda.

The only choice I regret maybe is to have made the series in English although it allowed me to challenge myself by writing like 50 pages of script and more than a hundred pages of fic in English, which I hadn't done yet because it alienated me from part of my original audience and people who could directly relate to the themes of the videos.

But also, thanks to English, I was able to reach some international viewers. You're few (I think I'm really not in phase with the overall fandom of les Mis which is all about emotions and not so much into politics which isn't bad in itself! And I didn't manage to reach a « leftube » audience which was my original intention) but very supportive. Thanks especially to @scarabsi for his steady support and art and to @starberry-cupcake for the long review. >< It meant the world to me! I'm comments/feedback starving so don't hesitate bros!

Thanks to Jamesina for the subtitles on the vids. I bet you made our French accents more understandable ! I still have to validate the French translations of many episodes. I lacked time. But it will be done. If you wanna translate the episodes in other languages, feel free to do it!

I have ideas for bonuses for this series; first, bloopers, which I couldn't include because of the supposed realistic/spontaneous nature of the vlogs (except for the last episode, I managed to make them fit), then maybe a more historical video with Ficus about the history behind Les Misérables, and then I also want to review the other Les Amis webseries I discovered when starting ZeVlog (so MANY and so diverse! It's really surprising. I'm thinking of writing an article about it, also, since I'm a PHD student).

But for now I'm pretty tired... and I'm gonna take a break from all this and focus on my other projects ahah. Although if you're catching up on the series or what don't hesitate to give me feedback again, I long for them :)

Story you were nervous to post: i have never been nervous to post anything in my life. i have the confidence of a mediocre white man in my writing ability. also i have ADHD, which means i crave validation, and the rush of dopamine from posting something is EXCELLENT. if i have ever experienced nerves, i forgot about them about three minutes after experiencing it.

How do you choose your titles: i. okay. i can’t start writing ANYTHING without a title and a summary. i don’t know why that is, but it is the unfortunate case! sometimes it’s morphed song lyrics, sometimes it’s bits of poetry, sometimes they’re just words i like in an order that i enjoy the sound of. titles are a Big Deal to me, i have a whole document where i just keep titles i’ve come up with for later use. it is... currently three pages long.

Do you outline: i didn’t used to! but as i’ve gotten older i’ve started to... it’s not outlining, exactly? i don’t outline so much as i just like. write really horrible shitty notes about the things i want to put in a chapter. seriously, they’re awful. i meme my way through outlines, please don’t ask me to post them. i personally think they’re hilarious, but i am also The Worst.

Complete: oh god. oh god please. i have been writing since i was fifteen, it has never stopped. i’ve written a lot of stuff that’s complete, and also a lot of stuff that is NOT complete. generally i don’t post things that i don’t plan on finishing, if that’s any consolation. the one exception to this is fifteen acres of broken glass, which ended up being a photograph of my mental state at... twenty. yikes.

In progress: hm. chapter 5 of cradle my heart is open on my laptop right now? the first chapter of the next part of thunderbird and whale is on the docket, too, tentatively titled keeping it surreal. there’s also a couple of codas to templar!au coming: let’s get this bread (cullen/f!trevelyan + a cat called bread whomst i adore), the last romance (f!hawke/isabela), and dreadfully unsolicited advice (which lmao is just... leandra being leandra at fiona over tea)

Coming soon: that chapter i was just talking about. probably within the next two weeks, so long as my brain decides not to fuck off to bermuda or something

Waffle for sure! There’s this really cool ice cream shop called Loblolly & they make these gluten free waffle cones in-house and they’re to die for!

Not really. Sometimes i’ll get nostalgic and wanna watch some wizards of waverly place, but i don’t think it’s on netflix anymore so i cant really watch it

I think a great relationship has a good foundation. because in the end, every relationship faces struggles and is gonna be “tested”, for lack of a better word. and what can we turn back to when we feel things arent where they need to be? the foundation. its like a house; if somethings wrong with it, but the foundation is still sturdy, its probably possible and worth fixing. if the foundation is cracked, its more risky; if the foundation is completely crushed, then its probably not a great relationship anymore.

...actually yes! I was severely dehydrated once and my mom had me drink 3 bottles of water back to back. then we got in the car and as she started driving, i got sick, so she pulled over and i sat there getting ready to vomit when a cop pulled over and was like “hey, you okay?” and my mom just explained i was sick, and as he walked over to look at me thats when i threw up ALLLLL that water. he stepped back so quick and was all like “do you want me to call an ambulance?”. it was great. thats how you get rid of cops. throw up in front of them (sarcasm)
