The rumor come out: Does Lavy is Gay?

Lavy is both non-binary and gay! Though they didn't come out with the former until after they'd died. You can imagine coming out with that in the 1920's wouldn't be ideal- and you know, internalised transphobia.

This is a good time to say what the inspiration for its name is! "Lavender" is based on the nickname that the old 20's called gay men. They were commonly referred to as "lavender boys". Lavy took that in stride and decided to be called by that. Even if they were a closested trans, they were NOT a closeted gay in the slightest.

Shouldn't the "lavi!" bits be written as "rabi" instead? Idk if there's a reference I'm missing but when I first heard the song I thought they were referencing the english word for rabbit.

That was where my mind went first as well, but they are not saying "Rabi", they are saying "Ravi" (ラヴィ). At present it just seems like a musical vocalization like "lu li la" or whatnot, so I'm electing to make the R an L because that's more comfortable in English (IMO, at least).

#i know that historically 'v' has been translated to Japanese as 'b' so there are a lot of older loanwords that function that way #but modern katakana has a way of writing 'v' that is distinct and unambiguous #so just as an fyi i would caution against assuming that they're interchangeable the same way that 'r' and 'l' are
