If THG's characters are living in modern world, what do you feel would be their profession?
Also, what would they study in university?
PS : For Peeta (baker or painter) and Mrs Everdeen (nurse or doctor), could you list another profession beside those please?
You can include as many characters as you can or want.
Thank you so much 😀

Ooh, fun! But also a tough question.
I have thoughts, though.
Peeta: Aside from baker and painter, various other art-related careers, graphic design, restaurateur (am I cheating?); also think he'd do well in the humanities, like psychologist or social worker. He could be a teacher (various grades, wrestling coach, etc). I've made him a lawyer (I think he'd rock at that)
Katniss: Environmental sciences, botanist (ofc), park ranger (and now I want this fic), security guard maybe? As @absnow said, Katniss is tough, lol
Prim: no nurse or doctor, but how about Veterinarian? Pharmacist. Also psychologist or social worker. Maybe a doula or reproductive specialist
Annie: I totally made her a marine biologist in a fic and that's where I stand. She could also be a trainer at Sea World or something
Finnick: Model, obviously. Something in business. Probably the guy who schmoozes the big clients. Or CEO Finnick (I want this, too).
I'll think of more and add to this...

For Katniss she seems most happy when she’s doing hands-on work. So given her interests in the books, I could see her happily working at a garden nursery, leather worker, or if she went to college maybe landscape horticulture/botany, or forensics. She has a bit of a horse girl vibe but given that we’ve never seen her particularly like animals, I’d say that’s out.
Gale- he’s such a rebel that I think of him being a political science guy who gets deep into activism and working in non-profits to make a difference. If he had a choice.
Given that they could be poor coal-town kids in an au, military or mining might be considered out of desperation. And lf course there are aleyas the retail/customer service hellscape jobs.
Prim- veterinarian or contemporary animal services leadership
Finnick- professional swimmer or diver then coach in his retirement
Joanna- lawyer or sales
Beetee- NASA engineer
Annie- afterschool programs for kids
Rue- biologist
Cato- business major 🤢

(i am about to go on a full-blown rant about your everlark fanfic "Tides")
Firstly, the characters, Cato: Asshole as always, I dunno I just hate the guy no matter what. even though his actions pushed katniss into Peeta's arms, still, he's an asshole, womanizer, and a total douche-bag who doesn't give a damn about anyone. Snow: I never liked the guy but this fanfic made me love this dude (platonic and fatherly, I swear!) He was such an amazing, caring, level-headed, intelligent, and business-minded person and he even had a conscience and cared for people. WOW! never thought I'd see the day but you definitely pulled it off and quite amazingly so... Alma Coin: glad to see her as a straightforward lawyer with a no-bullshit attitude. Glad she didn't have some secret agenda. Katniss: Amazing, strong, resilient, business-minded, and caring. She has been one of the best characters in this fic. loved her role and character development throughout the fanfic. Peeta: amazing, supportive, caring, and responsible. Loved him and his silver tongue so damn much, plus the over-protective brother act was hilarious. Cinna, Johanna, Haymitch, Effie: Amazing and supportive friends with unique and admirable goodness in their hearts. Mr and Mrs Everdeen and Mellark: Both pairs of parents should get the 'supportive parent award of the decade' along with Snow. Clove and Glimmer: Hated with a burning passion. Toastbabies and other kids: Perfect cherries on top :D Madge, Gale, Rory, Finnick, and Annie + Ceasar and Messalla and the camera crew: Amazing and admirable supporting characters Delly: Loath her...
My favourite quotes and dialogue parts from tides:
1- “Because, Robby,” his mother would respond with her hands on her hips. “Everyone wants to see the wonderful children that I’ve raised.”
2- “You know I can see up your nose, right?”
Johanna flicked her forehead. “How old are you?”
“Okay, okay…”
3- “Have fun. Treat her nice. Give her your jacket when she pretends to be cold, and all that other shit.”
“Manners, Peeta,” Effie admonished him as she approached.
He smiled and kissed her cheek once more. “Give him hell, Effie.”
4- “Holding hands, huh?” Johanna whispered in her ear. “That’s practically necking in Panem, isn’t it?”
5- “Did you let him sleep over in any certain places?” Johanna asked, her dark eyes dancing. “Like maybe your vagina?” “No!” Katniss looked over to make that Prim wasn’t listening. “We’re waiting on that kind of sleepover.”
“Okay, fair enough.” Johanna smirked. “But, he slept over in your mouth.”
6- “Bed her well,” Prim replied with a salute.
He turned at her words. “Primrose!”
“I’m thirteen,” she said as she stood up, her eyes rolling in exasperation. “I know that you’re not exactly brushing each other’s hair in bed.”
7- "Cato didn’t look at me the way that Haymitch looked at Effie.”
“And, how was that?”
Katniss pulled away to meet his eyes. “Like she was the end and the beginning.” She gave him an anxious smile. “Does that make sense at all?”
8- “I guess you heard the good news.” She looked to Prim. “Your sister is a woman now.”
He wasn’t sure what to do so his hands came together into an awkward clap.
“Uh…yay.” Peeta gave his sister a weak smile, his enthusiasm failing him. “Should we go out for breakfast or something?”
Prim stared at him, her eyebrows raised, before letting out a laugh.
“You just applauded my period—I think that’s celebration enough.”
9- “Did you really have to tell him that I became a woman today? Does everyone in the world need to know that I got my period?”
Peeta scoffed at her. “I didn’t tell Cor—but, you just did.”
His sister pulled out her chair next to Cor, and sat down. She put her head down in humiliation.
Cor looked at her sympathetically. “I’m not very sure what one does in this situation.” He looked over at Katniss. “Should I give her money or something?”
Prim turned her head slightly. “That might help.”
“Prim!” Katniss scolded.
His sister turned to Katniss. “You’re no fun.”
10- ‘You have to kick ass while there’s still ass to be kicked’
11- “What exactly is wrong with the dress?” Katniss asked her boyfriend.
“Her…stuff is showing,” he replied simply.
Katniss turned to him. “Stuff?”
“He means my breasts,” Prim informed her bluntly. “Because Peeta just realized that they’re there.” She looked at her brother, her hands on her hips. “They’ve been there for a while, Peeta.”
12- “That is not Effie,” Haymitch told them. “That is the giant pile of hormones and fetus holding my wife hostage.” He shook his head. “She has not slept—so I don’t sleep.”
13- “Conviction is one of the keys to convincing people about your cause.”
“What’s the other key?” He twirled her and closed his eyes, hearing the swish of her skirt as they continued their dance. "Passion,"
14- “There’s a S-E-X scene in this play,” he told her.
Prim snorted. “I know how to spell and read, Peeta. And, it’s more of an after S-E-X scene.”
“You’re very out of your element,” Katniss told him with a smile. “But, I promise to keep you from jumping on stage whenever she has to pretend to have S-E-X, okay?”
15- “During this bed rest period, I’m going to recommend that you…abstain,” Mags told the two.
“Seriously?” It burst out of her mouth. “You’re sticking me in bed and I can’t even do anything fun in it?”
“I’m afraid so,” Mags said, her lips turned up in a small smile. She looked at the couple, “Welcome to Parenthood. There are a lot of sacrifices to be made.”
Peeta eyed her small bump, his hand reaching to caress it affectionately. “You two better be cute as hell.”
16- “I understand that,” he replied. “But, I can’t help but be cautious. I’m going to be a husband and a father. I’m going to be putting on the big boy pants.”
She snorted, her eyes going right to his crotch. “I think your big boy pants are the reason I’m pregnant.”
17- “No wonder you two got pregnant!” Johanna was looking through Peeta’s side table drawer. “All these condoms—” She grabbed a bunch and held them out. “—perfectly wasted!”
“Seriously? That’s all you have to say?” Katniss asked her in disbelief.
Johanna thought for a moment. “Can I have the rest of the condoms?” Katniss’ eyes widened at her friend’s words. “I’m kidding!” She reached over to pull her friend into a hug. “I’m really happy for you. You’ve wanted this for such a long time.” Then, Johanna crawled over to Peeta and hugged him. “Congratulations on your most righteous sperm.”
18- “You’re crazy hormonal—but, I crazy love you.”
“I get to be Godmother?”
“If you want,” she said. “Peeta and I have talked about it.”
Johanna snorted before leaning down to speak to Katniss’ burgeoning stomach. “You kids are screwed!”
19- “I won’t get to see Prim make out with her boyfriend in front of you!”
“Is that really your motivation to want to get up?” he asked her with a smile. “To see me writhe in horror as I watch my sister up on stage as she marries Rory and has to pretend sleep with him?”
20- “Our children are also growing at a rapid pace—and I feel a little bit left out on not being able to feel them like you can.”
“Oh don’t worry—you’ll get your chance to bond with the babies.” Katniss grinned. “It’s called diaper duty.”
21- “Katniss...” He shook harder to no avail. “Wake up…” Nothing happened and Peeta could feel Prim’s laughing eyes on him. “KATNISS!”
22- His fiancée started, letting out a snort, as she roused, “NOT AGAINST THE FRIDGE, PEETA—TOO COLD!” Her hands batted him away as Katniss finally shot up. Her eyes immediately went to a red-faced Prim. “Sorry…”
23- “Can I come in? Or, are you doing something that you’re not allowed to do?”Watch over us—but, not too much though. I’d hate for Prim to be angry because her potential boyfriends mysteriously disappear. She’d blame me first!"
24- “OH MY GOD!” They looked up to see Prim, smoky-eyed and in a pair of teetering heels, at the doorway. She met their eyes and grinned. “What a greeting.” Rushing over to them, she hugged her brother and then kissed the top of Katniss’ head. “Got a nice view of your dilated hoo-hah.
25- “Thanks for messing up with your birth control and having these wonderful babies.”
Mags let out a chuckle as she wrote in Katniss’ chart. “That’s quite an endorsement for botched birth control.”
26- tender hand pat. They had that special way of communicating as all twins do.
“Are you wearing shorts under there?”
“Of course, big bro,” his sister replied with a grin. “I’m not Johanna.”
“That was one time!” Johanna retorted,
27- “Also, please refrain from exposing my niece and nephew to this grossness!” Prim added as she took Robin from Peeta. She handed her sleeping niece to Johanna before carefully taking James. “No need for them to know that their parents are complete horndogs!”
“Well, little sister,” Katniss started. “They’ll have to understand that without that grossness—they wouldn’t exist.”
28- “Don’t get her angry. She’s likely to kill us all!” The two women looked to see Cinna and Portia at the doorway. Her co-partners grinned at the agitation on her face. “We’re just joking with you.” Cinna went to her and kissed the top of her head. “We’re all actually very proud that you went rogue and decided to mess around in your car.”
The last thing I wanted to say was, this story was such an emotional journey for me. The characters, how they had started, their emotional developments and in some cases, deaths have hit me straight in my sensitive lil heart. Although I gotta admit, wonderful storyline and amazingly well-written. You pulled it off perfectly!!
Write more :D and thanks for sharing your amazing works with us @jlalafics, it means the world <3

You asked for it...and here you go--
______
The bar—per every Friday night—was hopping. Round tables were filled with customers, old and young, and the noise was deafening. However, that was exactly how the owners liked their customers—jovial, bawdy, and just there for a good time.
Katniss looked around before waving at one particular waitress before reaching her usual table in the middle of the room. As she pulled out a chair and sat down, another woman approached with a group of her girlfriends.
“This is our table,” she stated before looking to her friends who snickered in approval.
Katniss smirked, clasping her hands and placing them on the table. “No, it’s not.”
“I know the owner and he said that it was my table,” she persisted. “So, you can just move—there’s room for you at the bar.”
“I’m pretty sure that he didn’t,” Katniss stated plainly.
Agitated, the girl placed a hand on her hip jutting it out aggressively. “How do you know?”
“Because he’s our Dad and I’m pretty sure he wouldn’t say yes to someone who’s insulting the heir apparent to his business.”
A golden-haired waitress, blue eyes cool and strong stance, appeared before the woman.
“My sister has had this table reserved since she spit up on it as baby—not to mention, I’m pretty sure that she was conceived on top of it.” The waitress nodded her head towards the exit. “Now, beat it before you make the wall of people barred from Everdeen Spirits.”
The women quickly scurried away, and Prim snorted before turning to her sister.
Katniss stood up, hands on her hips. “Do you really have to tell everyone that story?”
“It’s gives the table a little more distinctiveness,” Prim responded easily. “Plus, I’m pretty sure our parents have had sex on at least one of these tables. I mean, I caught them making out behind the bar just last night.”
“Gross.” Katniss pulled her sister into a tight hug. “I’ve missed you!”
“Well, that’s what happens when you move to the city with your boyfriend!” They both sat down. “How is living in sin with Peeta going?”
Katniss frowned, resting back against her seat. “It’s been good—but lately, he’s been…different.”
Prim leaned in curiously. “How so?”
“He’s been working a lot lately,” she explained. “Then, there are mysterious phone calls where he hangs up right when I walk into the room and he’s been skittish.” Katniss turned to his sister. “We’ve known Peeta since we were kids—he has a tell. When he’s lying or doing something obviously stupid, he does this adorable thing where he scratches the back of his head…like he’s trying to come up with a good excuse for whatever he did.”
Prim look unconvinced.
“You’re right,” Prim replied. “We’ve known Peeta long enough to know that when he’s lying or hiding something, he’ll get caught.” She flashed her sister a smile. “The man loves you and you’ve been blissfully shacking up with him for a year now. Trust him.”
“And, you don’t think that he might be cheating on me?”
Prim reached, smacking her in the back of her head.
Katniss scowled. “Ow! What was that for?”
“Because you sound like a dumbass,” her sister retorted. “You love him?”
She sighed, nodding her head. “Yes.”
“Then relax, enjoy Thanksgiving week with our crazy-ass family, and get excited for karaoke!”
“Since when do we have karaoke at the bar?” Katniss asked with a smile.
“Since drunk people love to post videos of themselves or their friends singing ‘Don’t Stop Believin’ and tagging our bar,” Prim said. “I told Dad that it would be great for business and he agreed. Sometimes he even goes up there and sings—you know he has a voice of an angel.”
Katniss could see Darius, one of the head bartenders, setting up the microphone on the small makeshift stage.
“Oh yeah. Practically stole Mom’s heart with that voice.” Katniss smiled softly. “It’s nice to be home.”
Prim leaned over and kissed her on the cheek.
“It’s great to have you home. I’ll have Vick bring your usual.”
With that, her sister stood up and headed back to the bar.
++++++
Once karaoke got started, Katniss put her thoughts on Peeta aside. Prim was right; there wasn’t a bad bone in Peeta’s body, it was why she fell in love with him.
What was once a childhood friendship had turned into love during a middle school dance. After being dumped by her boyfriend, Cato, for a girl who looked like her but had bigger boobs, Peeta had come to her rescue and asked her to dance.
Then, under an overabundance of streamers and the sound of slow jams on the speakers, Peeta Mellark became her boyfriend.
Surprisingly to a lot of people, they had remained together from high school through college—attending separate campuses—up until now. She worked as a paralegal for Haymitch Abernathy, a prominent Manhattan lawyer while Peeta worked as a sous chef for famed chef, Beetee Latier.
They were content with their life together.
At least, she thought they were.
The volume of the crowd heightened when her father crossed the stage. Richard Everdeen, with his salt and pepper hair and kind coal eyes, became everyone’s dad as soon as they entered his bar and it was apparent in the appreciative applause as he took to the microphone.
“Hello darling!” Katniss turned to find her mother pulling out a chair across from her. They embraced before sitting down. “I would have been out sooner, but I was having a hell of a time dealing with these wine distributors.”
“It’s alright,” she told her mother. “You didn’t miss anything but a round of Journey songs and a really good rendition of ‘I Wanna Dance with Somebody.’”
“I really just came to the front for your Dad.” Her mother’s blue eyes went soft at the man on stage. “And you, of course.”
Katniss chuckled. “Thanks Mom.”
“Oh, you know I love my first-born baby!” She gathered Katniss against her. “But I’m always hot for my man!”
“And, you wonder why you two were never popular with the other parents,” she responded.
Her parents were great, but they were a little more…boisterous than the staid parents that often ran the events at the girls’ schools. That never bothered Katniss or Prim though as their parents were as supportive as any parents could be.
The girls were often the top sellers during fundraising events as patrons at the bar would buy anything to support the Everdeen girls. Or whereas a parent might run a cotton candy booth during the annual springtime carnival, the Everdeens were the ones who ran the dunk tank which often featured her father promising a free bottle of wine or soda for anyone who dunked him.
“Who needs popularity?” her mother said. “We have each other.” She looked around. “Where’s Peeta?”
“He should be along,” Katniss said. “Had to work late…but he should be here soon—I hope.”
Peeta had texted his apologies, but he was once again caught up with the restaurant. He spent less time in their apartment the more successful he became.
Her mother gave her shoulder a squeeze. “He’ll be here sooner than you think.”
Katniss nodded, turning her attention to her father.
“Anyway, thank you for coming in for this new thing we’re doing. My girl Prim’s idea—” The crowd whooped and cheered for Prim who did a curtsey from the front of the bar. “It’s a joy to hear all your beautiful voices—”
“SING!” someone called out from the crowd.
Katniss looked around quickly before turning back to her dad.
“I guess we’re getting a request,” her Dad said with a humble smile. “I’m going to dedicate this to my wife. Pearl, darling, this might be a little past our time, but I think you’ll enjoy for many reasons. Also, Katniss, my oldest girl, is back home so I think she’ll enjoy this as well.”
The familiar strains of the song began, and it was like she was 12 again—all legs and arms with no tits, but feeling the beginning of womanhood and the beginning of love.
 “Darlin' I, I can't explain
Where did we lose our way?
Girl, it's drivin' me insane
And I know I just need one more chance
To prove my love to you—”
There was a scrape of a chair and suddenly Peeta was sitting right next to her.
“Peeta!” She beamed at him. “I can’t believe you’re here!”
Peeta pressed a kiss to her lips. “Sorry I took so long…Beetee is so panicked about making sure that the holiday menu goes as planned.” He turned to Katniss’ mother. “Hey Mrs. Everdeen.”
“Hey sweetheart.” She stood up. “I’m going to grab a snack for you two—”
“Mom, it’s alright,” Katniss assured her.
“No, no…” Her mother was already heading away. “Don’t worry, I’ll be right back!”
Katniss turned to Peeta, who took her hand. “I guess she’s giving us alone time.” She smiled at him. “I really am glad you’re here. Truthfully, I’ve been a little worried about us.”
Peeta frowned. “Why?”
“You’ve been so busy…and sometimes I feel like you’re keeping something from me,” she replied.
“I’m sorry.” Peeta gazed at her, earnestness in those blue eyes of his. “I don’t know why you put up with me sometimes.”
“Because I love you, dummy.” His mouth widened at her words and she slid her hand to his cheek. “Always.”
Peeta covered the hand on his cheek with his own. “Always.” He looked to Katniss’ father and nodded a hello. “Do you remember this song?”
“Of course,” she replied. “It was the first song we danced to—when I got dumped for being Miss No-Boobs.”
“Trust me, the boobs came and more than made up for the delay,” Peeta told her with grin. He stood up. “Dance with me.”
She looked around the crowded bar as everyone listened to her father singing the chorus. Some people were even singing along. “Here?”
“Yes. I want to dance with my girl,” Peeta insisted as he stood up, pulling her along. He wrapped an arm around her waist, drawing her close. “I remember being so nervous when I asked you.”
“You were my hero,” she replied as they began to sway. “Imagine I was thinking that I was so heartbroken over Cato when you were in front of me all that time.”
Peeta met her eyes, suddenly nervous.
“I’m really sorry if I’ve been neglecting you. It’s just that I realized something; I don’t want you to be my girlfriend.”
Her heart suddenly ceased to beat, and she pushed away from him, her eyes filling.
“Then you don’t have to be.”
Katniss turned but Peeta still held her hand. “Katniss—”
“Let go!” She was full on sobbing in front of everyone. “I don’t need to hear anymore.”
Peeta obliged her and let go.
Katniss pushed past the rush of people, wiping her eyes. She couldn’t believe that he was dumping her in her family’s bar, on Thanksgiving week—
“I'm gonna swallow my pride
Say I'm sorry
Stop pointing fingers the blame is on me—”
Why the hell was Peeta singing?
She turned as the crowd parted and Peeta, mic in hand, walked towards her.
 “I want a new life
And I want it with you
If you feel the same
Don't ever let it go…”
“What the fuck are you doing—”
Peeta stopped in front of her, falling to his knees, as he continued to belt out the bridge of the Boyz II Men ballad.
“You gotta believe in the spirit of love
It'll heal all things
It won't hurt anymore
No I don't believe our love's terminal
I'm down on my knees begging you please…”
“You really should get off the floor,” Katniss told him. “It’s disgusting.”
“Not until you hear me out,” Peeta told her.
Her dad was suddenly by their side and Peeta handed the mic to him. The music stopped and the whole bar turned silent.
“I don’t want you to be my girlfriend, Katniss, because you are so much more than that. You’re my best friend, my biggest supporter, my guidepost, and advisor…because I do some dumb shit sometimes—”
She scoffed. “That’s for sure.”
“And, just like that, you keep it real. You’re also my soulmate,” he continued. Reaching into his pocket, Peeta present her with a velvet box. “I’ve already mucked this up, but hopefully this will help you understand.”
Her hands shaking, Katniss took the box and opened it. “It’s a ring.”
Peeta chuckled.
“That it is. A pearl in the middle because you love them so much—and of course, it’s your mother’s name,” Peeta explained. “The two diamonds to the left and the right are for your father and Prim. If you look at the outside of the band, there’s a small engraving of the signet that I found when I was doing research about the Mellark family during our senior year and if you look inside—”
Katniss pulled the ring out and looked inside.
“Always,” she read out thickly.
“I don’t want you as my girlfriend. I want you as my wife,” Peeta told her. “So, I’m on bended knee—on this beer-stained floor—asking you if you will please…please…be my wife.”
From out of nowhere, her mother pushed her forward. “For God’s sake, Katniss, say yes to the boy!”
“Yeah,” Prim said from the bar. “That floor is so gross and I’m pretty sure he’s wearing Armani.”
“Will all Everdeens please shut up—” Katniss called out. She joined Peeta, going to her knees, and looking into his eyes. “—so I can say yes to the man who’s loved me since before my boobs came in?”
Peeta blinked back in shock. “You’re saying yes?”
“I’m saying hell yes.”
Katniss watched as Peeta slid the ring on her finger with trembling hands.
Standing up together, her fiancé pulled her close to cover her mouth in a deep kiss.
“She said yes!” Her father bellowed to the crowd. “Free beer for everyone!”
The bar erupted in cheers as Prim, wiping her eyes, dashed behind the bar to help the bartenders serve.
Richard held his hand out to his wife. “I guess we’re having a wedding.”
Pearl wrapped an arm her husband’s waist.
“Our daughter must really love Peeta,” she said, watching the newly engaged couple, lost in each other’s embrace. “Because with a voice like that—”
“Well, let’s just hope that the children don’t inherit his voice.”

The PANEM Initiative, Chapter Twenty-Four
Chapter 24
“Please state your name for the record,” the judge instructed without looking at her.
“Katniss Everdeen,” she said leaning forward to speak into the small microphone. She sat at the front of the court room, surprised by how many people were there to watch the proceedings.
Effie had cut her and Peeta off as they were entering the building that morning, pleading with them one more time to reconsider attending the review. When her efforts were unsuccessful she warned them that they would be just as much under the spot light as Peeta’s parents were.
“Your every move and every word will be noted…and if you don’t want to cause yourselves issues with The Initiative, I suggest you keep that in mind.”
“Do you want us to lie under oath about my parents’ marriage?” Peeta had asked in a strained voice.
“Of course not!” Effie had looked appalled as she adjusted her hair. “You two need to present as a united front, stay next to each other at all times, do not comment on the proceedings outside of being on the stand, and do not under any circumstances comment on how this review is affecting how you view your own match.”
“Coordinator, you may proceed.” The Mellark’s Match Coordinator stood up and cleared his throat. He looked tired and frustrated, most likely annoyed that his nuptial success rate is decreasing, Katniss thought to herself.
“Miss Everdeen, what is your relation to the Mellarks?” he asked in a monotone voice.
“I am engaged to their son, Peeta.” Katniss pressed her sweaty palms into her thighs as she talked.
“And how long have you known the Mellarks?”
“My entire life…Peeta and I are the same age and have attended the same school since kindergarten.”
“What were your interactions like with Mr. and Mrs. Mellark as you were growing up?”
“I mostly interacted with Henry, he has always been very kind to me.”
“And Mrs. Mellark?” Katniss swallowed hard, trying to remember the words she had prepared in advance.
“I did my best to avoid Mrs. Mellark…I could tell she was not fond of children around her store.” She paused and took a deep breath – she had not imagined sharing her and Peeta’s story in front of this many people. “When I was 11 my family was struggling financially and we did not have enough food. Peeta would bring me bread from the store and the he started showing up at school with bruises under his eye from his mother.” There were gasps of shock from all around the court room and Katniss could see Mrs. Mellark shifting uncomfortably in her seat.
The Coordinator closed his eyes and pinched the bridge of his nose.
“What have your interactions been like with Mr. and Mrs. Mellark since you and Peeta have been engaged?” And so the questions continued. “To your knowledge, did your March Coordinator file an incident report?” And continued. “Miss Everdeen, I was informed that you were there the day that Mrs. Mellark was served her divorce papers, can you tell us a little of what happened?” And continued. “Have you had any other interactions with Mrs. Mellark since that day?”
By the time Katniss was done answering the questions she was exhausted and ready to shut out the public eye. She was dismissed from the stand and quickly retreated to the safety of her seat next to Peeta, who wrapped his arm protectively around her shoulders as soon as she sat down.
“Coordinator, do you have any other witnesses to question?” the judge asked after the personal witnesses, along with Ryen, Brandon, and Peeta, had all been questioned.
“No, your honor,” he said as he sat down.
“Mr. Mellark if you could please – ”
“Excuse me, your honor?” Mrs. Mellark’s attorney stood up as he interrupted.
“Yes?” the judge bit out.
“I was wondering if I could ask a few questions of my client.” He motioned to Ida.
“Mrs. Mellark will have her turn to make her statement after Henry makes his.” The judge waved for Henry to come forward.
“Yes and she has prepared that statement,” the attorney continued, “But I would still like to ask a few clarifying questions.”
“Make it quick.” The judge waved Ida forward and swore her in. She sat down and fixed her gaze on Katniss, an evil smirk on her face.
“Mrs. Mellark,” her attorney started. “There have been several testimonies today that have called your character into question, but one such testimony was confusing to me.”
“Objection!” Anita, Henry’s attorney stood up. “If Mr. Miller is confused by a witness’s testimony, shouldn’t he be asking the witness themselves?” The judge looked between the two lawyers.
“I will allow Mr. Miller to proceed. Please get to your line of questioning soon – and make it relevant.”
“I will your honor.” Mr. Miller cleared his throat and continued. “Mrs. Mellark, Miss Everdeen spoke of two occasions where you brought genuine concern to their Match Coordinator’s attention. Miss Everdeen spoke of these occasions as if your intent had been malicious, could you please spread some light on these situations?”
“The two instances that Miss Everdeen,” she spoke Katniss’s name with venom in her voice, “spoke of earlier were of two instances of a concerned mother.”
“Bullshit!” Peeta spit under his breath.
“I may have made some mistakes in the past,”
“You can say that again,” Katniss heard Bran mutter from beside her.
“But these two instances were no mistakes. I was, and am, genuinely concerned for my son’s future with that girl! The last time I spoke with Miss Everdeen she was on a date with someone else!” Katniss felt her stomach turning as Mrs. Mellark spewed her lies.
“And as a concerned mother, what did you do when you confronted her?” Mr. Miller asked.
“Objection!” Anita stood up again. “What does this have to do with the petition review?”
“Mrs. Mellark was painted in a tainted light earlier and all she would like to do is have a chance for the board to hear her side of it!” Mr. Miller yelled.
“Then she can address it in her statement!” Anita yelled back.
“Approach the bench, both of you!” The judge waited as the two attorneys hurried to him.
Katniss strained to hear what they were saying in hushed voices but the ponding in her ears was too loud.
“Mrs. Mellark, you may step down,” the judge said as the attorneys returned to their seats. “Now, Mr. Mellark, please, present your statement.”
“We the Review Board have been tasked with keeping the integrity of The PANEM Initiative intact. We do not take this responsibility lightly, making sure to examine and analyze every piece of information we are given. With that in mind, after hearing the prepared witnesses, both sides’ statements, and reviewing the proposed separation of assets, along with taking into account that the full children requirements have been meet and that Mrs. Mellark has refused to sign the divorce petition, we have decided to grant Mr. Mellark his request for a divorce.
Katniss could feel Peeta physically relax.
“In regards to assets,” Katniss watched as Henry’s shoulders tensed, “we are granting Mrs. Mellark’s desire for an even 50/50 spilt with exception to the house and bakery. We have decided to grant Mr. Mellark sole ownership of the Mellark Bakery along with the house that sits on the adjoining property, as it was willed to him by his parents.”
“Yes!” The Mellark men cheered in unison.
“Mr. and Mrs. Mellark, please approach the bench to sign your divorce papers.”
--
Katniss sighed heavily and leaned her head against the car window.
“Sigh all you want, but we have to find an apartment,” Peeta said as he pulled out of the bakery parking lot a week later.
“I know…I just hate apartments…even ones that aren’t in the city.”
“I’m not a big fan of them either, but we have not found a house within our….”
Katniss lifted her head, ignoring Peeta’s words as she stared out the window, a sign catching her eye.
“Stop the car.”
“What?” He glanced at her.
“Stop the car! Stop!” Katniss quickly unbuckled and threw her door open as soon as Peeta had put the car into park.
“Kat?!” He jumped out, following her. “What is it?”
“It’s for sale.” She pointed to the sign that was swinging in the breeze.
“I see that…but there is no way it would be in our price range.” He stared up at the stone on the front of the house.
“They have had this house on the market for almost two years…” she paused and smirked at him, “they might be desperate.”
“What are you talking about?” Peeta raised an eyebrow at her. Her smile grew bigger as she nodded towards the neighbor’s house.
“Who really wants to live next to Haymitch?” she asked as she started walking towards the house.
“Not me.” He watched as she continued walking up the sidewalk. “Are we really doing this?”
“It never hurts to ask!” she called over her shoulder.
--
“So they accepted your offer?” Helen asked in disbelief as she looked up from her newspaper.
“No. But we asked if they said they would be willing to discuss the negotiations with The Initiative and they said they would be.” Peeta sat down beside Katniss on the couch. “They have been struggling to get offers on the house and no one has looked at it more than once.”
“Turns out, no one wants Haymitch for a neighbor.” Katniss smiled.
“What are the next steps then?” her mom asked.
“We already submitted the negotiation form to Effie yesterday – she said that someone from The Initiative’s financial department would be contacting the seller within 48 hours.”
“That is very exciting.” Helen smiled brightly at the two.
“Yeah, it should be – ”
“HEY!” Prim’s voice interrupted them. “ARE WE PLAYING CARDS OR WHAT?” she yelled from the kitchen.
“We’re coming – don’t get your panties in a twist.” Katniss jumped to her feet.
“My panties are just fine, thank you!” Prim yelled back.
“When did she turn into such a teenager?” Helen asked as she stood.
“Rematch!” Prim cried as she threw her cards down on the table. “There is no way they could have beaten us by that much! I demand a rematch!”
“You got it!” Peeta pulled all the cards into a pile and started to shuffle them. “Helen, you ready to take them down for a second time?”
“Oh yes!” She clapped her hands. “What do you say, Katniss? Ready to lose again?”
“What happened to a friendly game of cards?” Katniss laughed as Prim and Peeta stared each other down. “You know – ” a knock at the door cut her off. “I’ll get it.” She hurried to the door and pulled it open. “Effie?!” Their Match Coordinator stood on the door step with an exasperated expression on her face and her bright red hair a mess. “What are you doing here?”
“I need to speak to you and Peeta – his father said he was here.” She walked around Katniss, letting herself in. Katniss inhaled slowly, trying to stomp out her annoyance as she closed the door.
“I am…do you have news on the house already?” Peeta asked as he walked into the living room.
“The news I have is not happy news, Peeta…the Review Board has some concerns about statements made at your parents’ petition review,” Effie said as she looked around the room, seeming to decide on whether to stand or sit.
“Shouldn’t you be talking with my parents about that then?” Peeta asked, concerned.
“No, Peeta, I should not.” She pulled two folders out of her purse and presented Peeta and Katniss each with one. “The Review Board’s concerns are focused around your match.”
They took the folders and opened them. Inside were transcripts of Katniss’s and Mrs. Mellark’s testimonies.
“I don’t understand.” Katniss flipped through the pages, trying to make sense of it.
“I asked you not to go to the review…I warned you two that your actions and words were being watched, but you did not listen.”
“Effie, we did just as you said – we presented ourselves as a united front, we did not talk about the proceedings off the stand, and we certainly did not talk to anyone about our relationship.” Peeta tossed his folder down on the couch.
“You’re right Peeta,” Effie folded her arms tightly across her chest as she talked. “Neither of you talked about your relationship.”
“Then what is the concern?” Katniss asked.
“The Initiative’s Review Board is conducting a review of your relationship with Gale Hawthorne.”

Note
what is something everyone should know about your muses before interacting?
multimuse ask meme accepting
i told vicky to send this to me again bc i’m a dumb and didn’t understand it the first time
ruth balakov  - she is SUPER high energy. if you interact with ruth, expect her to be just short of bouncing off the walls. also, she’s super random, so don’t be surprised if she just rambles on and on about all kinds of random shit
samir chaudhry - this guy may seem immature, but he’s actually very thoughtful and considerate
tutankhamun “tut” mcmullen  - he’s emotional. look up “emo” and there will be a pic of tut. however, he’ll try and hide it if he thinks that his emotions will hurt the other person (well, that’s if he cares about them. if he doesn’t, then he’ll let it all out)
jughead jones - he’s a little shit. he’s also not the dark and brooding jughead from riverdale. i cannot stress that enough. my jughead is asexual, loves burgers more than life, and doesn’t say shit that sounds like a young chuck palahniuk. instead, he’s more like roald dahl minus a dash of the whimsy
melody valentine - again, she is NOT riverdale based. that’s honestly the most important thing about her and jughead. my melody is sunshine in a person and sings everything she says with the occasional bit of cryptic wisdom
mark darcy - basically, he’s a modern mr. darcy. something to know about him and my portrayal is that i’m probably not going to write him with a lot of people. most of the muse i have for him is when i’m writing him against bridget, and i can’t really change that. he’s deeply in love with her, and ??
choi han-kyul - this kid is the grandson of the chairwoman of a company so like he’s hella rich, and he takes it for granted at first. but then, he’s put in charge of running a coffee shop, and he matures a lot through the process. however, he doesn’t lose his playfulness. he’s honestly one of my favorites, and if anyone ever wanted to write with him, i would be beyond happy.
dr. noelle akopian - she’s a psychiatrist who’s done with ur shit
greg serrano - self-sabotaging but currently working on improving his life. in business school, used to be a bartender. recovering alcoholic.
maya - she’s the most pure and pls don’t hurt her
valencia perez - used to be a yoga instructor, but is now an event coordinator. hella gay even tho the show doesn’t admit it. deserves to be appreciated. is working on improving her “mean girl” tendencies. the “mean girl” tendencies tho are partially bc she’s never really had female friends and she just...doesn’t know what to do? she’s actually an awkward bean, but her beauty prevents a lot of ppl from realizing it
johnny castle - soft. again, don’t hurt him. he’s a dance instructor at a resort, but he can work in a lot of different verses. you need a dancer? he’s there. he’s very serious about his craft, and is a genuine human being. he appreciates honesty.
blair warner - she’s rich af and can be super conceited, but she knows how to have a good time and has a little bit of a devious streak. depending on the verse - is either in law school or a lawyer. intelligent altho ppl don’t expect it.
jo polniaczek - looks tough, is a soft. don’t let her leather jacket and motorcycle fool you. jo polniaczek just wants a simple life and she wants people to be happy and respected. respect is big with her.
emily gilmore - a socialite altho she prefers the term “philanthropist.” emily might seem “evil” to some people, but she has good intentions (in her mind). she only does things when she thinks they’re the “right” thing to do (at least, before the revival), but she also has a bit of a mischievous streak that’ll come along every now and then. her upbringing instilled certain lessons in her that she’s unlearning little by little.
meredith quill - she loves classic rock, motown, her son, and the world. she’s one of those people who’s in love with life, and her enthusiasm is genuine.
alice longbottom - she’s kind and altruistic. however, she’s not a pushover. my alice isn’t “soft” alice. she’s “u said something super ignorant and im gonna tell you why youre wrong” alice. gryffindor.
arthur weasley - arthur wants to learn everything he can about the world around him. a bit of an absent-minded professor, even tho his mind is always turning. he just has so many thoughts happening all at once, he can tend to jump from subject to subject without connecting them sometimes. gryffindor (altho he was almost a ravenclaw)
victoire weasley - read this here
helga g. pataki - helga is someone who came from a bad situation and pretty much raised herself. most of her interactions will be after high school. my headcanon is that she finished school and got a scholarship to ivy league and after that, she went to law school at another ivy. she hopes to be the first female president one day. she’s aggressive, but deep down, she cares a lot.
effie trinket - seems like an airhead, but effie is smarter than you think. she grew up in a society where certain things were expected so she fulfilled them. her upbringing was also extremely different in the sense that she was fed propaganda from a young age and never knew differently, but her experiences in district 12 (or other verse equivalents) have shown her that the world isn’t what she thought it was, and she’s learning what life actually is little by little
katniss everdeen - i won’t write katniss a lot just bc it takes me into a place that’s harder to get out of, but my katniss is a sacrifice of her circumstances. she never wanted to be a revolutionary figure and never felt comfortable with her position in it even after the war was over. her “toughness” that people seem to see is just katniss trying to survive. survival is her driving aspect.
jane villanueva - jane is a mama who is also an incredible writer whose first book is in the process of being published. she writes romance novels so essentially she’s just like us! she likes having a plan for everything, and her family is number ONE in her life
michael cordero a detective. is also a major nerd. thinks he could be a comedian, but he’s not actually that funny. like maybe if you have a certain sense of humor. he lives with a certain code of ethics, however, they might get bent at points if he thinks it’s for the best of the situation.
rogelio de la vega - telenovela actor. if your character met him on the street, they might not know him if they haven’t watched telenovelas, but he will assume that they know who he is and that he’s famous. SUPER dramatic. don’t be alarmed.
elle woods - amazing lawyer, loves the color pink, member of delta nu. in my version, i take pieces from the movie and musical. for my elle, vivienne was the one who told her to come back to the case (like in the musical), but at the end, elle doesn’t propose to emmett. instead, she and vivienne start dating and fall in love and get married
ryan atwood - he came from not a great family, and then he got adopted by this uber rich fam in the oc (orange county, california). he’s navigating his new life, and grappling with who exactly he is and what his place is in the world. just know that he’s deeply loyal and cares a lot about people
pam beesly - receptionist at dunder-mifflin paper company. insecure, but is slowly coming out of her shell. is an artist and outlawed at chili’s. is a huge dork, but also adorable.
fitzwilliam darcy - super rich bc he inherited everything from his parents after they died. they died when he was young, so he was thrust into responsibility at an early age which is part of why he is the way he is. seems stuck-up (and kind of is), but he just doesn’t care of societal expectations of friendliness even though he gets caught in what society expects when it pertains to manners, etc. is his sister’s guardian, and she means more to him than anything else in the world
jane bennet - pure, the sweetest. the oldest sister of five. in modern verses, i have her as a preschool teacher
queen clarisse renaldi - queen of genovia. a literal queen. tries to be diplomatic. expects people to do as she tells them bc she’s a queen. has dealt with some shit in her life - her husband died, her SON died. tries to stay optimistic.
sabrina fairchild - suicide attempt tw:her father is a chauffeur for a super rich fam. suffered from depression. attempted suicide, but thankfully, was found before it was too late. after that, she was sent to paris and attended cooking school. fell in love with paris, and also healed. developed a love for life. became a fashion designer.
capheus onyango - son of a local leader who was murdered when capehus was young. was raised by his mother who he loves more than this earth. spent awhile driving a bus called the “van damme.” is a sensate, meaning he is connected to seven other people. idealistic, kind, and too good for this world.
princess fiona - i’ll mostly be playing her with a real life fc. she’s a princess, an actual princess, and her parents had her in a tower for years bc there was a spell on her that turned her into an ogre at night. so kinda like the swan princess but instead of a swan, she’s an ogre. black belt. enjoys burping.
shrek - an ogre, however, if i keep him, ill be playing him mostly with a real life fc. isolated from a young age, had to take care of himself. is insecure because of how he looks and who he is. enjoys burping as well. has layers.
charles brooks - in charge of a publishing company. divorced. has two daughters. is cautious when entering new relationships because of his position and his family. respectful. intelligent. is finally starting to live life in a way that aligns with what he likes.
josh - tattoo artist. human golden retriever except more funky. is just trying to enjoy life while he can. definitely a millennial. spontaneous. knows how to have a good time. is super duper loyal and kind.
