A Post about Sky High? In 2022? More likely than you think

Alright time is a construct and my writing skills have improved since my pathetic last attempt at writing Sky High continuation fanfic, so here we are.

This is not actual fic (that’ll take a while) but rather a repository for my main ideas which others may use (especially since, again, this is gonna take a while for me).

Part One: immediate post- movie Continuation(s)

Obviously the first movie covers Will sort of coming into his own with the co- plot of the main characters coming together to save the school, with themes about expectations vs reality, legacy and the pressure to live up to it, the addictiveness of popularity etc. My idea here is to make a series of sequels, each focusing on Layla, then Warren, then Ethan, Zach and Magenta as a trio of their own (since there’s less material to work with each of them individually).

Rough Concepts:

Maybe I’ll flesh ice girl from the end out a bit?

First one’s on Laylah; I feel like her story would have to focus a bit on her simultaneously desire to change things for the better but also her naïveté- for example, what did she think not demonstrating her power “in protest” would accomplish? Why did she think making Will jealous with Warren was the best way to get his attention back? I know the answer is “teenagers are dumb” but that’s the point! I want to show them growing!

Also I think it’d be funny if each sequel escalates in stakes so the B plot in Laylah’s story involves saving the whole of Maxville instead of just the school. Warren’s should involve saving the state, and Ethan, Zach and Magenta get to save the planet because they deserve it

Warren’s will be an obvious callback to Will’s (aka the movie) with themes of expectations vs reality and legacy (albeit in the EXACT OPPOSITE way, of course) but also self acceptance, finding your own identity and accepting love and support.

(I also think my version of Warren’s dad should feature in Warren’s fic. As a treat.)

Anyway I was struggling to think up what the themes I should explore with the secondary trio’s story but then I realized it was staring me right in the face, THE FACT THAT THEY ARE CONSTANTLY UNDERESTIMATED OR FORGOTTEN, both in universe and out! Learning to shine will be their collective theme!

Individually, at this point I can derive individually themes from my headcanons if nothing else…uhh…

Part Two: The Timeskip

I have less of a plan for this one but have some Ideas:

I think Warren should either work at Sky High (like a principal or counselor or teacher, idk) or run a home/support group for troubled young supers.

Laylah has a doctorate, has probably won a Nobel prize, has been accused of bordering on ecoterrorism a few times but is very effective. If she’s still with Will (haven’t decided) then he’s definitely her househusband, taking care of their kids while also being a hero.

See above for Will, but also I think he would also make a good teacher, or maybe a normal but flexible day job, like being a realtor or personal trainer

I get the vibe that Ethan would work in tech or be a twunky librarian. I said what I said.

Zach would be an actor (maybe a C- list infomercial guy turned accidental icon, like Flo from progressive?)

Magenta would totally fill the “superhero journalist” cliche, she fights one type of villainy as herself and another as her alter ego :)

On that note I feel like the secondary trio (though Zach not as much) would contract their services out to certain well- vetted clients. Mag and Ethan’s abilities are ideal for espionage and several government agencies have been aggressively trying to woo them since graduation.
