"I'm Wolfie," Twilight confessed.
"Right?" Hyrule nodded enthusiastically. "Me, too! Wolfie is such a big mood!"
A bead of sweat dripped down the back of Twilight's neck. "No, I mean--literally. I'm literally Wolfie."
"Oh, for sure," Warriors said, sprawled out on the ground. "We are all Wolfie."

Sighs
summary: San scolds his duckie
pairing: Lee Donghyuck x Choi San
genre: smut / porn with barely any plot
estimated word count: 1000 words
a/n: Merry Christmas and happy holidays 🩵 This was inspired by their majesty themself, @atiny-piratequeen mahalo nui loa for both the inspiration and positive energy sharing you’ve given me to be able to complete this—I can’t believe this wip was born in late October… and I actually completed it, thank you so much motha!! Remember folks, copying other people’s works is plagiarism and that’s illegal. Don’t be that kind of person. Anyways, hope you all enjoy it :)

Donghyuck’s grip tightened as time seemed to halt. The sensations that danced in and around him, swallowed Donghyuck whole. Consuming him and leaving him nearly pliant, with all his strength being used to ground himself in his embrace of San.
“P-plea-”
“Quiet.”
One command. One simple command was all it took for Donghyuck to mentally retract. His mind rushing to fill his train of thoughts, left empty by his gradual impaling upon San’s cock.
The elder lathered his neck with love bites. Lips, tongue and teeth all gradually traveling across Donghyuck’s neck and collarbones like a calligraphy pen, imprinting its identity upon its canvas.
“I told you to trust me”
Donghyuck whimpered, the spearing upon his core barely starting and already he was breaking at the seems. His limbs that trapped and locked itself around San’s neck and waist shivered under the desired invasion.
“I told you to be quiet… why couldn’t you?”
“I-I-“
“Quiet!”
Donghyuck screamed as a spongy head first kissed the realm of his prostate, before suddenly weighing down upon it viciously. San, leeching harder upon the younger’s neck, paid no mind to the pleasurable wails coming from the one sitting upon him.
Spots and darkness started to flood Donghyuck’s vision as he still awaited for San to fully sheath himself. This was the deed that almost always took the longest. San was nothing short of impressive in all that he did and all that he was.
And it left little for Donghyuck to wonder on why the simple act of inserting himself into the younger was always a prolonged activity.
“One thing I asked of you tonight. One thing. And you couldn’t even do that.”
Donghyuck was trapped between heaven and hell. The immeasurable divinity he felt under San’s every kiss, bite, touch and caress clashed with the sharpness of his lover’s words. He should have been able to do it. He should have kept his bratty mouth shut. He should have kept those mean and jealous words from spilling.
And yet he didn’t.
And now he would pay back what was due.
“I’m s-sorry… I’m so sorry h-hyung.”
Donghyuck’s struggled to voice his thoughts through the hiccups that infected his vocal cords, a side effect of the ever growing tension building within his core. Growing like a wildfire. A volcano simmering and stewing in its heat. Pressure building from within, awaiting for the prime moment to rupture and explode.
The sudden press of San’s hips against his shivering rear left Donghyuck’s sanity nearly depleted, with San as the only foundation left for him to mentally stand upon.
“You know… that was very bratty of you. To run your mouth to your dongsaengs like that.”
Each word from the elder became pronounced with a thrust of his hips into Donghyuck. The younger could barely maintain what little sanity he had left with every new bruising kiss to his core. Only tears could spill down his naked form as Donghyuck hid his face in shame and pleasure within the crook of San’s neck.
San eased his grip on his mate’s waist as his thrusts slowed to a halt, the elder’s nerves finally thawing with every sob Donghyuck struggled to hide. The elder’s once vexed demeanor crumbling under the weight of Donghyuck’s tears.
“Duckie… why didn’t you listen to me? I told you to trust me. To let me handle them. Why could you not do that… just this once?”
Pulling back to gather a look upon the other half of his soul, San would thank their current bodily position—with his cock cradled by the gods gift to him—for it was the only reason his heart didn’t shatter at the sight before him. Of his Donghyuck falling into the depths of his emotions, tears staining his cheeks and soft hiccups choking his baby.
“B-because….”
Donghyuck paused, taking a second to gather the last of his thoughts as a finger that wasn’t his own wiped away his tears. The younger’s grip on the elder didn’t falter in its desperation in being close to his mate, tightening as Donghyuck accepted the weight of San’s forehead upon his own. The two sharing a breath, with only each other in their entirety.
“Because you’re mine.”
Donghyuck barely spoke those words aloud when the sudden crush of San’s lips met his own. A warmth consumed Donghyuck further and further as he suddenly found himself enclosed between the sheets beneath him and San blanketing him completely.
And with barely a moment to catch his breath, Donghyuck felt San’s apology and adoration.
He felt San’s apology with the fingers that danced upon his skin. Traversing from its place upon his hips until it secured itself upon Donghyuck’s neck and jaw.
He felt San’s adoration when the elder’s other hand grasped Donghyuck’s cute cock. Fondling the adorable appendage, circling its head and stroking it to a desperate completion.
Donghyuck could only hold on tighter to his hyung before his lungs let loose a torrent of pleasured sighs. With his mind slowly ascending too high in the clouds and his release painting much of San’s navel white.
“My duckie.”
San almost chuckled at the way his words went unheard, as the now relaxing form of his boyfriend began to slip from its embrace to the elder. San was quick in maneuvering his love to lay limply upon their bed as he hovered over Donghyuck, like a beast delighting in its prey before completely devouring him.
“I-I… I sorry hyu-“
Donghyuck’s slurred words were cut off with another soulful kiss from San. The elder’s lips and tongue controlling the younger completely. Forever breathtaking, all consuming and irrevocably powerful in leaving San’s soul imprinted upon Donghyuck’s very own.
“I forgive you my duckie.”
And with those last few words, Donghyuck granted his beloved hyung a soft smile of acceptance before using the last of his strength to interlock his fingers with San’s as he awaited for more.
A sigh was all Donghyuck could grant San as the elder soon closed the space between the two.

After spending so much time watching dimension 20 I seriously don’t think I’ll ever be able to tolerate regular tv. My little gay heart has never seen this kind of queer representation in tv and it is nourishing my soul. And queerness is never the butt of any joke and the characters experiencing and figuring out their sexualities isn’t always sad and dramatic.
I have never related to something so much. This silly show of just a bunch of cool actor friends playing D&D has probably changed my life: I feel like I know who I am better now???
I am eternally grateful to Brennan Lee Mulligan and literally every person involved in Dimension 20 for giving us this show and this outlet to figure ourselves out. Also gonna be eternally annoyed with Dimension 20 every time I have to watch a straight romcom - give me gay wizards and fairies and candy people any day

it's been a while since i last watched steven universe but. listen. queerplatonic lapidot.
and not as a consolation prize "the crew waited til after the show was over and peridot was half of the fandom's most popular ships to reveal that peridot was aroace so the fandom wants an alternate way to keep shipping them" way
but as its own beautiful thing
like, take the main elements that make peridot and lapis's relationship as a romantic partnership or a friendship so interesting and endearing to so many people... and then add the complications of navigating a non-traditional relationship on top of that
peridot wondering why she doesn't feel attraction like the other gems she's met or like in the shows she loves. but finding so much happiness in this thing she's got going with lapis that she doesn't care that she can't feel romance, because what could be better than this? besides, isn't that the beauty of earth, that she doesn't have to act and feel like all the other gems, that she can just do things her own way?
lapis starts to worry that she's just settling for her relationship with peridot because she's afraid of romance after what happened with jasper, that she'll somehow become unsatisfied with her relationship with peridot after she works past that trauma. but time passes and she works through her trauma and fear of relationships, and those worries never come true and she never finds herself dissatisfied with her relationship with peridot, never finds herself wishing their relationship would turn romantic or wishing to replace peridot with a romantic partner (she may or may not consider getting a romantic partner *in addition to* peridot in the future, but that relationship would never be considered above her and peridot's relationship. and she's happy either way, with or without romance)
idk it's just neat!

With how I'm planning my fics, since Menelaus and Agamemnon spend some years at Tyndarius' palace, I kind of have them all be childhood friends in a way before Agamemnon and Menelaus take back their kingdom (Aga is around 19, Menelaus 15 when they leave. 5-6 years later they get married.) With how their marriages work out when talking about "Old times", Odysseus is the "odd one out" as he was the only one who didn't grow up alongside them. The poor guy is left out.
Odysseus: "Wait, why is everyone laughing? What does that mean? I don't get it." Penelope: "Well you see-" Goes on about a silly story but the inside joke is dumb. "...You probably would've had to have been there to get it" Odysseus:

Making mods for bg3 is a rollercoaster, I’ve spent 5 hours today making custom teeth because my dumb self clicked something in a wrong order and stuff was going to shit.
But now I have Lazuli and Iah (still working on them tho, I have no idea how to remove the horn stumps from their heads 😭)

I just started rereading Artemis Fowl, and now I’m very confused about Lazuli’s genetics.
Spoilers for the end of The Fowl Twins book 3
So, Lazuli is supposed to be a hybrid of elf and pixie with a little bit of goblin, and at the end of the last book it was revealed that her mom was the fairy that Artemis gets the fairy bible from. Initially I thought this was really cool, but while rereading the first book I realized that her mom is a sprite? Does that mean that her dad is also a pixel with a bit of goblin, and Lazuli’s phenotype just doesn’t show any sprite traits?
I considered that maybe Artemis mistook the fairy for a sprite when she actually wasn’t, but that seems unlikely since she had green skin, which as far as I know is only a trait that sprites have.

The Gemlings
Another fucking SU thing I wont stop unless someone asks me to write abt smth else
I love SU so much so here is a 7 page google doc on my 2 favorite gals and an oc
I could totally add more on this btw
The Crystal Gems walked over to the barn in the dead of night after hearing what sounded like a fight. As they stepped closer, the sheer smell of hormones flooded their senses. Along with the sound of hissing, chirping, growling, grunting and spitting.
“Guys?” Steven said, grabbing Garnet’s arm and looking up at her and Pearl.
“What’s going on? Is everything okay there?” He asked, worry filling his gaze.
“I’m sure it is. I recognize this type of environment. I think Lapis and Peridot are going to have geodes soon!” Pearl squealed, happily jogging up to the barn. As she came closer, she heard the sound of a deep snarl.
“Peridot? Lapis? Chrysolite?” Pearl called out to the trio that lived in the barn. She used her gem to cast light into the room, illuminating the large nest in the middle. The gems looked at each other as they saw Chrysolite, the male, being batted at by Lapis and Peridot. They hissed at him loudly, hitting his large muzzle as he tried to help with the nest.
“Chrysolite, you know you can’t be in here while your mates are nesting.” Pearl chastised, crossing her arms as she glared at him. He let out a creaky roar, sitting down with his legs out and his hands on the floor in front of him. As he reached a paw out, Lapis reached hers out, smacking it away with a growl. He gruffed and tried again, only to be hit by Peridot. He groaned and flopped onto his back, presenting his belly as a show of trust. Again, only to be met with the glares and growls of his mates.
“Come on Chrysolite, you’re spooking them.” Pearl stepped closer, only to be hissed at by all three of them and batted at by Chrysolite, who reluctantly got to his feet and left the barn, making sure to scent everything he came across. Once he was out, he closed the barn door and sat in front of it, staring at the doors as he slouched angrily.
“It’s going to be my nest too!” He shouted, crossing his arms as the two gems inside hissed at him.
“Why won’t they let me stay? They’re going to be my gemlings!” He grumbled, falling onto his stomach as he asked Pearl.
“You know why Chrysolite, it’s because they’re hormonal. You’re the sire, and sires’ hormones make them incredibly quick to violence, they just think you’re too aggressive to be around.” Pearl said, helping him up.
“But it’s my den too! I should at least get to stay!” He pouted, crossing his large arms across his chest. He bared his teeth and lashed his tail, clear signs he was not to be agitated.
“Look, you’re about to be a father and your body language is showing it too, you’re upset and until Peridot and Lapis allow you in there, you can’t be in there!” Pearl responded, looking up at the gruff looking male.
“So you’ll just have to stay with us! It’ll be like a sleepover!!” Steven shouted happily, hugging him tightly.
“Yeah, yeah I guess it will.” Chrysolite smiled and hugged him back, now walking back a little more willingly. When they got back to the temple, Chrysolite leapt into Steven’s room, snatching blankets, sheets, and pillows off the bed.
“Chrysolite?!” Pearl shouted, shocked at his actions as he threw the bedding onto the floor below. He grunted in response, taking the mattress in between his teeth and tossing down as well. He leapt off of the loft and spread the materials out, his instincts taking over as he began to build a new nest. He took the cushions and pillows off the couch as well, carefully arranging them in his new nest in the middle of the living room. He purred and walked around it on all fours, admiring his work.
“Ohhh…” Pearl exclaimed, understanding what just happened.
“You’re just nesting!” Pearl smiled and rummaged through the cabinet next to the couch, fishing out more soft textile things for Chrysolite to use. He happily took them and sprawled them out in his nest, before softly clambering inside and turning in circles, soon stretching and flopping down into it.
“U-uhm? Chrysolite?” Steven said, walking up awkwardly. Chrysolite grunted and opened one eye, peering up at him.
“Could I, y’know… Come in? I-I need to sleep too..” Steven said before Chrysolite snatched him by the front of his pajamas and softly tossed him into the nest before curling around him, giving him just enough room to breath as he fell asleep. Steven giggled and soon fell asleep as well.
In the morning, Chrysolite yawned, nudging Steven awake. As Steven crawled out of the nest, Chrysolite stretched out like a cat and trotted out of the nest. He looked around, checking if Garnet, Amethyst, or Pearl was there before he quickly walked out the door. He ran down the stairs and ran down the beach, kicking up sand as he ran to the barn.
“Chrysolite!!” Pearl shouted, causing him to glance back at her in shock before running quicker. He panted, quickly trotting over to the barn, speeding through Beach City.
“Chrysolite! Get back here! You’re going to scare them and end up most likely causing problems to their clutch!!” Pearl shouted, having Garnet and Amethyst chase after him as well. He ran through the streets, almost running into people as he ran to the barn. He hopped over the fence and scrambled over to the door, the gems right on his heels. He dashed through the open doors and skidded to a halt in front of his mates. He purred loudly, chirping as well as he rolled onto his side, presenting his soft belly, the most vulnerable part of his body. He flicked his ears and shook out his fur, emitting pheromones to soothe his mates’ nerves. He knew not to get too close to the nests, but he did scent the room, covering it in his scent so when the gemlings arrived, they could get used to it. Once he was finished, he purred and rolled around, taking in the attention that his mates gave him before they sent him out.
“What are we going to do with you?” Garnet said as Chrysolite was sent out, purring as he scented his mates briefly before they swatted him away. He smiled as he trotted out, scenting the outside as they left.
“You’re going to scare them if you lose your temper around them, your fuse is shorter than normal..” Pearl said, causing him to snarl. He sighed and stepped on the warp pad, activating it and going home.
After months of this, going over, scenting, being chased out, and repeating, Chrysolite grew tired. He lay in his nest, snuggling Steven close to him. However, they both were jolted awake at the sound of wails, and bright blue and green lights coming from the barn. Pearl, Garnet, and Amethyst quickly bolted into the living room to see Chrysolite shaking Steven off of his leg and bolting out the door.
“Pearrrrrl!!!” Steven yelled, falling back into the nest.
“Where is he going!?” He shouted, quickly dashing in and out of the bathroom in a new change of clothes.
“Peridot and Lapis are getting ready to lay, and Chrysolite’s sire instincts are going haywire! We need to stop him before he gets himself hurt, Peridot or Lapis hurt, or the clutches hurt!” Pearl explained, bolting after him.
“Chrysolite! Stop!! You’re going to scare them!” Pearl yelled as she sprinted after him, trying to catch up and stop him from interrupting. He dove onto all fours and ran faster, running down the empty dark streets to get to the barn. He panted as he ran on, leaping over the fence and diving into the barn, being met with the wails of his mates as they laid their clutches in the nest. He instantly began producing calming pheromones, purring and chirping to soothe the nerves in the room. He quickly trotted over to them, licking their skin to calm them. He rubbed their back, enjoying the time they had before they got angry at him being there. Pearl’s squeals filled the barn as she laid her eyes on their clutches, counting nine whole geodes in total.
Chrysolite purred loudly, rubbing his scent glands onto each geode. They laid together for a few minutes, tending to their young. Once the geodes’ safety was ensured, Lapis let out a growl, signaling for Chrysolite to leave. He grumbled as he got to his feet, rubbing against the clutch one last time, earning a slash and a hiss from Lapis. He retreated from the nest with a chirp and gazed at his offspring. He trilled and flicked his ears and throat fur, presenting a show of green-blue color. He purred loudly and pranced for them, giving into his needs as a sire. Lapis and Peridot giggled to themselves and sent him off. He trilled and jogged out after giving them a kiss, purring wildly. He closed the barn doors and turned to face the other gems, Pearl and Garnet looked at him, slightly disappointed in him going to see the two carriers, despite Pearl’s warnings about what might happen. However, he just gave them a smug look and pranced off.
Around two weeks later, Chrysolite was woken up by someone leaving the house. He yawned, stretched, and turned over, going back to sleep. Twenty minutes later though, he was jolted awake by the loud and angry cries of his mates in the barn. He was up in an instant, the instincts of a sire needing to tend to their family flowing through him. Garnet and Pearl ran in, causing Steven to wake up as well. Chrysolite grew angry quickly, fangs growing in his mouth as he snarled and spat, his eyes glowed as he bolted out the door, sprinting towards the barn once more. Pearl groaned, having to chase after him again with Garnet. He leapt onto all fours, running faster to get to his new family. He ran through the fence, smashing it to pieces as he tried to get to Lapis and Peridot. He slammed open the doors and panted roughly, observing the geode in Amethyst’s hands. Pearl and Garnet stormed in behind him, and saw what Chrysolite was upset at. Amethyst laughed awkwardly, placing the geode down just as Chrysolite leapt on her.
To him, Amethyst was not a friend. All he saw through his instinct clouded mind was someone trying to take away his baby. He roared and was on her in a millisecond, holding her down and slamming his clawed hands into her. He bit, tore, slashed, punched, beat, and screamed. At the moment, he was not Chrysolite, he was only a hormonal sire protecting his young. He attacked her so violently, she poofed and even then he was still angry. He raised a hand, getting ready to slam it down on Amethyst’s gem and shatter her. Though, just before he could, Steven ran over and grabbed it, running out of his reach before he too could get hit. As Pearl, Garnet, and Steven ran, Chrysolite ran after them. He growled and hissed, chasing them away from the barn and back into Beach City. He let out a deep roar, completely intent on viciously attacking them if they came back too soon. He spat as they ran back to the house, keeping Steven safe.
He grunted and stalked back, still on all fours. His teeth and other sharp assets shrunk back to normal. As he walked, he scented the area around the barn, marking trees and rocks by slashing into them. He did this for at least an hour before he heard the calling chirps of Lapis and Peridot. He eagerly ran back, before slowing down and carefully entering the barn. He heard their soft purrs as he padded in, his puffed up fur laying flat back on his body. He purred back, much louder and deeper as he smiled at them. They smiled back and started shuffling around, making room for his large body to fit in. He trilled happily and softly slipped in. He purred louder, his breathing syncing with theirs as he snuggled in, tucking them both closer along with their clutches. They laid like this for hours, falling asleep together. They lay like this for weeks, never moving from their spots.
“Hey Chrysolite?” Lapis said, shaking him awake.
“Yes, Lappy?” He smiled and gazed up at her, licking her cheek softly, causing her to giggle.
“Me and Peri were wondering if you could watch the clutches for us? We want to go out together but we can’t leave them..” Lapis said, stroking his hair softly.
“Of course! I’d love to watch them, I haven't seen them in so long.” He cooed and leaned into her touch.
“Thank you!” She purred and hugged him tightly.
“Peri! He said he’d watch them!” She shook Peridot awake, who chirped happily, getting up from the clutch.
“Here, lay on your side Chrysolite.” Peridot instructed.
“Okay, what now?” He asked softly, gazing up at her.
“Alright, here we go.” Peridot carefully gathered up the geodes and slid them closer to him, slipping their sturdy forms under him.
“The outsides are incredibly durable, so they won’t crack if someone of your size helps with brooding.” Peridot explained, covering him with a blanket.
“Alright, thank you Peri.. Now you two go have fun. They’ll be safe, all nine of them.” He purred, shifting to make himself more comfortable. The two nodded and stroked him softly before leaving the barn, closing the doors and leaving it pitch black inside. He smiled as he curled around them, making sure every last one of them was safe and accounted for.
“Hi there babies.” He cooed, chirping and trilling happily.
“I’m your carrier's sire, so I’ll protect you and your mamas. We’ll all be so safe together, me, Lapis, Peridot, and all nine of you. Oh!!” He squealed, his incredibly loud purrs shaking the walls. He laid on them for hours, using his body heat to keep them warm and using his insane amount of fur to keep them safe. He had his back towards the barn doors as he snored, his chest rising and falling. He let out a snarl as he heard the barn doors open, his ears turning towards it. He turned himself over, crouching over his nest and geodes as he growled.
“Chrysolite?” Came Pearl’s soft voice. He opened eyes to look at her, snarling as his eyes fell upon Amethyst. He hissed loudly, his lips curling to show his gums and sharp teeth. He growled and puffed up his fur, making him look impossibly larger.
“Where’s Peridot and Lapis?” Pearl asked, stepping closer slowly.
“Out.” He responded coldly, pinning his ears back against his mane. Though still softening up around her.
“And you’re covering for them? How much longer do the geodes have?” Pearl asked, sitting in front of him with her legs folded under her.
“Yes, I’m taking over until they return. And I would say around a week or so.” He answered, starting to purr quietly. They talked for a while, Pearl calming him down and chatting about the clutch.
“Ow!” He yelped and raised his body up, watching one of the geodes begin to crack.
“Or today! Or they could erupt today!” He panicked, letting out a loud deep Sire Call, calling out to his mates for help. He carefully set all the geodes out in front of him, watching them as he called to Peridot and Lapis. Pearl walked him through the process of the erupting of gemlings, explaining how she used to be a midgem, the gem version of a midwife. He squealed as he saw a small furry blue hand poke out of the blue and teal geode, its tiny claws swatting around at nothing. He carefully took the top of it between his teeth, slowly removing it for the small gemling to poke out of. Its gem was on its chest, and was shaped like Lapis’s.
As soon as he helped it out of its geode, it started crying. Its small naked fluffy body wiggling around. He held it in his paws, licking it clean and cradling it on his bare chest, yelping as it clawed him unconsciously. Its cries lessened and it sniffled before it began chirping. It peeped as loud as it could, grasping onto the soft warm fur of Chrysolite’s chest. Pearl clapped her hands wildly, congratulating him on his first gemling’s eruption. Minutes later, Peridot and Lapis came rushing into the barn just in time to see Chrysolite licking two others clean. Both were blue, looking the exact same. Same green hair, same shade of blue on their fur, same cries, and both of their gems were on their left shoulder they were practically the exact same gem.
“Chrysolite!” Lapis shouted, quickly running over with Peridot to help calm their cries. He purred and set both of them on his chest with the first one. They purred loudly, helping the others erupt from their geodes and giving them to Chrysolite to clean and soothe. They sighed as the very last one erupted and Chrysolite took its small spotted body to clean it.
“She’s so small!” Chrysolite cooed, softly setting her with her siblings.
“Alright, Pearl, Garnet, Amethyst? Leave please.” Chrysolite said tiredly, shooing them away as best he could as he stroked the gemlings' backs. Pearl nodded and quickly herded the gems out of the barn, making sure to shut the doors. Chrysolite sighed, purring loudly as Peridot and Lapis curled up next to him.
“You’re so lucky we agreed to this. This entire process hurt.” Lapis jokes, softly stroking the sleeping gemlings. He chuckled and wrapped his arms around them, rubbing their bellies softly.
“OW!” He yelped, curling his toes as one of the small gems bit at one of the small pinkish bumps on his belly, sinking its sharp tiny teeth into it. Lapis laughed, carefully picking up the small baby and bringing it to her chest, helping it feed from her instead of trying to feed from a male. The baby chirped and took one in its mouth, feeding itself as it squeaked. The other babies raised their heads, chirping and squealing. Lapis and Peridot smiled, reaching out for their babies and having them latch onto them. They purred in sync together, slowly falling asleep with their babies.
A few weeks passed and the gemlings grew bigger. Their eyes have opened and almost all of them have Chrysolite’s yellow eyes. Some of them have Lapis’ wings but they can't control them and all parents have to keep an eye on them to make sure their wings don’t dissipate in the air. Whenever the gems came over, the gemlings, sometimes labeled ‘cubs’ by Chrysolite, loved to climb on Garnet. Whenever they clambered onto her, she’d have the goofiest smile on her face, sitting extremely still. Sometimes, they’d go outside, but only ever with Chrysolite, if he wasn’t there, they don’t go outside. When they were outside he never took his eyes off of any of them, even if he couldn’t see them, he knew EXACTLY where they were. They also really liked being picked up by Chrysolite. Since they didn’t know how to speak, they would waddle up to him, raise up their arms, and chirp wildly until he noticed them and picked them up. With the help of Steven, he taught them how to speak, even if it was only around 10 words a baby.

Comedy Is A Lie: I’m Going To Explain The Joke And It’s Going To Make Everything Worse
A buddy asked me why I cut a good joke from one of my fics and my immediate answer was “it killed the tension,” which, upon reflection, is a pathetic answer that is mostly inaccurate and does not even come CLOSE to how much thought I put into comedy in my writing. So I guess I’m going to write this out and excise the demon of over-explanation.
Part The First: What Is Funny
The biggest thing I try and keep in mind when writing editing comedy (and anything, really, but especially for comedy) is rhythm. Lots of parts to rhythm! Most obvious is the word-to-word/sentence-to-sentence flow. Timing is a really important aspect of verbal comedy, which is why performance is a good medium to use. You get to control the delivery of every sentence and the spaces in between. But when you’re writing, you have significantly less control over how a reader will interpret the rhythm: all you can do is word your sentences as best as you can and give them rhythm cues via punctuation. (This is why I use so many em dashes and commas… I'm working on that…)
The other part to rhythm is on a more macro scale. There are jokes that will roll along with the flow of a story. For me, these are jokes that don't deviate from the context of the scene too much. They connect one subject to the next, or they build off of each other (a ‘yes, and’ sequence, for example). Alternatively, the joke is delivered in a really understated way. Like passing off something objectively batshit as status quo. Either way, they flow!
Then there are jokes that will halt a scene in its tracks. These are jokes that recontextualize a situation, or make a particularly large leap from the current topic. Or, you've been setting up for this punchline for a while and this joke is payoff. Or the joke is just really, really funny. These are the kind of jokes where you need to give the characters (or the reader) a beat to process them. Sometimes. We’ll get back to that.
Part the Second: How Is Funny
So the point of all that rhythm stuff is that comedy has a flow! If every line is a witty one-liner, none of the lines are witty one-liners! If every joke is a one-hit-KO, you have left your reader unconscious. Basically, if you are constantly being #Funny, you become repetitive and predictable, and that is the death of tension (and humor is a tension-driven element).
One way to think of comedic pacing is setup (AKA building tension) and punchline (AKA payoff). It’s a balancing act: the more you build up tension, the more satisfying the payoff is going to be, but if you spend too long building up, you start dragging. You want the reader to think, “I can’t wait for the punchline!” and not, “oh my god, PLEASE get to the punchline already.”
Fun way to make the tension last longer is to put all those flow-y connector jokes along the way. The reader’s anticipating the Joke, so by giving them little jokes, it meets their expectations in little ways so that they don’t get too antsy.
Hey, what’s tension, you ask?
Part The Third: Why Is Funny
When I read a book, there are two emotions that get me to turn the page:
I don’t know what’s going to happen next, and I’m curious!
I know X is going to happen, and I’m anticipating it!
That’s tension. (Something something semantics—I’ve never taken a creative writing class, I don’t have a vocabulary)
You can have the calmest, low-stakes fluffiest fic in the world but as long as your readers are experiencing either curiosity or anticipation, Congrats! You have tension! I, however, like putting readers on fast-paced rollercoasters, so that’s the lens through which I’m tackling this section, which is: how do I use jokes in a story structure context? What purpose does a clown serve?
I mentioned earlier that some jokes are bricks to the face: they demand to be processed. Most of the time, I put high-impact jokes in places where I need the story to “reset” in a way: force a beat so the reader can process both the joke and the plot. That’s using humor to release tension. Literally. Laughter relieves stress.
But! You can also use those jokes to make the tension even worse! If you drop a bomb and immediately press forward, no processing allowed, you get stressful comedy. You want to laugh, but also a bunch of other stuff is happening and it feels kind of rude to laugh, so you get stressed. Sometimes humor can undermine a climactic moment, but if you use the right joke in the right spot you create shrimp emotions. If you’ve read DotF ch8 you know what I’m talking about.
Jokes also just make for good plot points? A lot of jokes are built on recontextualization. Everybody loves a good twist/reversal/surprise in a plot. Just make a joke and re-frame it, and bam! You’ve plotted! (Everything I’ve ever written started off as a joke.)
Wait, What Was The Question?
Tumblr media
Why did I cut the joke? It was a waste of a brick to the face. It was too referential, it required the audience to know/agree with something completely unrelated to the story, it didn’t build upon what I already established. It ruined the rhythm.
I need to emphasize that, despite all my Thoughts on this, the way I appraise my jokes is 80% vibe-based. I probably could have kept the joke, and it would have been totally fine. But I would know. I would know that my intended rhythm is broken… it would haunt me until the end of time…

Skies of pink and purple glowed neatly as the sun descended from sight against the horizon. The waves of the cool ocean were light and repetitive as it brushed against the sand dunes of the shore.
The lonely road was a barrier between the sunset kissed beach and the sleeping valley that remained covered in a shroud of green life.
As the wind ripped passed Dejun’s ears, his hands remained tightly around your waist, his chin sat on your shoulders and he held you close as if his life depended on it.
Because it did. Well, kind of.
The roaring of the harley filled the air as you sped down the empty road. Dejun held you close, his fingers grasping, arms encasing and soul intertwining with yours as you pushed the harley to speeds that were likely illegal. Of course Dejun didn't mind, he knew you wouldn't do anything to intentionally hurt him. However, as the tourist this time around in the relationship, he couldn’t help but worry for you. He didn’t want you having to fight for your life with law enforcement over something avoidable.
Despite the worry that simmered deep down, the thrill was breathtaking. It was moments like these that made his heart do cartwheels. Nothing could compare to the simplicity of just being with you. Together like this. Driving between a sunset and a tranquil valley. It was simple. It was fun. It was so you.
The slowing of the motorcycle brought Dejun out of his thoughts. "Why'd you stop?" He asked as he pulled his head from its spot on your shoulder.
A red traffic light struggled to shine against the sun's waning glare. And you turned your head curiously towards your lover.
"Because... The light is red."
"That never stopped you before."
Your face heated up swiftly at his blunt honesty. Despite his innocent nature, you savored the moments where he tested his own boundaries.
"Might wanna hold on then."
The chuckles that left his lips were ones of pure happiness. In that moment, he could have hated how reckless you could possibly be. Or hated how he was stuck on the back of a motorcycle of a thrill seeker.
Instead, he cherished that moment, and so many more like them. Your words. Your voice. Your presence. The feeling of your body. Everything. Nothing in that moment mattered because there was nothing to worry about anymore. Not when they were together, under the embrace of both the sun and moon.
Readily returning to his place attached to your back. Gracing your shoulder with the weight of his head, the harley roared to life before taking off once more. Speeding forward on the empty highway, under the glow of pink and purple skies.

Some Lapidot Drinking Headcanons so TW for alcohol and sexual reference. Yes this is for My Bizarre Roommate.
Tumblr media
Peridot
She's a lightweight, she's pretty much buzzed at one drink, mainly because for 1. She's little and 2. She doesn't like alcohol all that much, she only likes fruity stuff. She can get pretty bitey when drunk too, basically wanting to bite people and Lapis has to help keep Peridot out of trouble. She'll take Peridot home and basically put her to bed. Though, Peridot can get kind of horny and want to do it with Lapis but Lapis knows it's wrong to do that. So instead she just cuddles with Peridot in which both of them end up sleeping pretty fast. Luckily Peridot doesn't drink often due to sensory issues with alcohol and loud noises from a bar. She can also get paranoid at those kind of occasions. And yes she does get a bad hangover which Lapis helps her with. Also she doesn't drink often is also because she gets carded a lot despite being 24.
Lapis
She's more midweight about her drinking mainly due to her bigger size. She drinks more than Peridot does even though she suffers from similar sensory issues. She luckily doesn't get carded as much as Peridot does even though she's 27. But she'll have a glass of wine every now and then during events and often goes for a more sweeter tasting type. She can hold her alcohol but when she does get drunk, she'll be very sleepy and Peridot has to help her get home before she passes out. But if she does get drunk like that away from home, she only does it within walking distance because Peridot can't drive. Peridot also takes care of Lapis whenever she's like this as sometimes Lapis will start crying in her arms and Peridot comforts her. Hangovers for her aren't bad since she's suffered some bad ones before before she moved in with Peridot.

No one ever talks about how lonely the war is.
How it rips families apart not only by death, but also by distance. We are some of the fortunate ones. Our family possesses enough magic to allow a certain amount of communication. Nothing personal, of course, the spells are too sacred for that. But every message means that my siblings are still alive.
I mostly hear from my sisters. Amethar is fighting on the rough waves of the dairy seas, searching for his newly wed wife. Even though it was the worst decision he could have made, the glimmer in his eyes had almost been enough to stifle my anger.
Almost.
I wish we had the time for him to be young and foolish.
Sapphria would love that. I can’t even imagine what kind of hideous plans the two of them would continue to come up with at Castle Candy. Our youngest sister is a force of nature on her own, but with the creative plans that Amethar cooks up sometimes…
Oh, how I wish we had the time.
Citrina and Lazuli are back at the Castle, keeping our kingdom save from within the church and the library. The war effort looks different for everyone. And if anyone dares get too close… Lazuli will snipe them right off their feet with her magical bow.
Sometimes even I hesitate to use its real name. Being killed by arrows is one of the worst ways to go in this war. Unpredictable. Impersonal. Silent. Lonely.
I weigh Flickerish in my hand. I can only hope that if I die on the battlefield, whoever deals the killing blow will look me in the eyes. Loosing is never honorable. But it would be the closest thing.
---
My steps echo from the hard candy walls. I had felt it from the moment she fell, but within these walls her absence is almost overpowering.
The young gummy knight stares into the air, mumbling again and again what he has already told me and my siblings.
That Lazuli knew what she was doing. That she did it, because she knew it would be worth it.
I don‘t doubt that for a second. But it doesn‘t give me or my siblings much comfort as we put our sister to rest under one of the blooming peppermint trees.
As Citrina says a prayer, a thought enters my mind unbidden. I try to push it aside, because I have told my sisters to get rid of this childish notion many times before.
But this time I am powerless against it.
This isn‘t fair.
Of course it isn‘t. War isn‘t fair. But it is always different when it‘s your own blood on the ground of the land you call home.
It‘s different when the light that goes out lives deep inside your heart.
I had always thought I knew pain through the battles I had fought in the past.
I didn‘t know anything. This pain is blinding and deafening. It cuts my breath short every time I try to suck in the sweet candian air.
And it doesn‘t stop.
Not when I leave again for Ceresia. Not when we hold our ground and celebrate a victory. It never stops.
And just when I thought that I had gotten used to it, a sending reaches me and rips the ground out underneath me.
A second piece of my heart is thrown into darkness as I try to understand how another one of us is suddenly dead. Killed in the shadows by carnish assassins.
Oh, Sapphria.
How could it ever come this far?
But the war doesn‘t wait for the grief to settle. Only days before I finally could have returned to Castle Candy, another sending arrives.
I thought I might get numb at some point, but the pain is sharp and cruel. Nobody can explain to me how it happened, but it doesn‘t matter anyways. Citrina is dead. Killed in the streets in broad daylight.
I have to return home to the only sibling I have left. I have to be there for Amethar and see with my own eyes what in my heart I already know to be true. That I am the last one of the sisters. The oldest who failed to do protect her siblings.
But there is something I have to do first.
The war is not yet over and if I don‘t stop Calroy Cruller, no one else will.
The battle cries echo over the wheat fields even though the front is some distance away. If it were silent, it could almost be peaceful. The golden wheat dances in the soft wind under the rising sun. I had never been one for sentimentality, but in this moment I miss the smell of peppermint flowers in full bloom. It‘s been too long since I have smelled them and the next time I will, comfort will be the furthest from what I am feeling.
The tiniest reflection of something moving towards me is all the warning I get.
Something thuds painfully into my shoulder.
My first instinct is to drop to the ground, but if Lazuli has taught me one thing, it‘s that arrows will always come down. So I run.
The next arrow hits me in the thigh, but I keep running. The pain is sharp and cold. My breath hitches in my throat. Arrows thud against my armor. I can see the tents in the distance. If I can only—
Two arrows strikes true at the same time. One goes through my hand. Involuntarily, my fingers open. Flickerish tumbles to the ground and finds its final resting place next to me as the other arrow digs its way underneath my plate mail.
I am on the soft ground before I know why. Everything spins around me. The arrows don‘t stop coming.
We all have to die.
I just wish I didn’t have to do it alone. Though that seems to be the way all Rock siblings have to leave this plane.
Just as that thought crosses my mind, I suddenly feel it. A presence that I haven’t felt in over five years. Ever since Lazuli did the brave thing instead of coming home.
We’re here. Don’t be scared.
The hole I had carried in my chest ever since they were all ripped away, suddenly fills with warm light as my younger sisters surround me once again. The pain subsides as the darkness eats away at my field of vision. My chest shudders with every breath.
Lazuli’s hand is in mine. Citrina’s lips place a soft kiss on my forehead and Sapphria’s arm curls around my shoulder. A translucent smoke surrounds me that tingles on my skin. They are waiting for me. Maybe Citrina has been right all along. She has always been the most put together of all of us, even though none of us ever admitted it.
The war is lonely.
But dying isn’t.
A last comfort, I think to myself as I close my eyes and let myself drift.
Now it is up to you, brother. I know you’ll do us proud.
