How long do you think the filming for berlin2023 will take? 4-5 months? Surely not as long as lcdp, I assume it won't be as action-packed. At least I hope so, they probably don't have a budget like lcdp, so can't waste money and screentime on stupid shooting/explosion scenes.
Hi anon! I think it'd be 4-5 months at most. Unlikely to have lots of explosions and shootouts lol, but I'm betting that they'll travel around Europe a lot for filming on-location. I'm expecting more sets similar to the Copenhagen robbery, so smaller in scale but more delicately mapped out (with maybe more cgi involved?). Probably a lower budget than the later seasons of lcdp, but definitely a bigger budget than s1-2, which will go into fancy art pieces and Andres' clothes LOL
Unless we're all wrong, and Alex Pina plans to center berlin2023 on a scifi robbery where Andres steals the moon like the dude from despicable me.

I just realized that, were Rafael not introduced in S5, the ending to the show would have looked vastly different.
Maybe we’d have gotten one of the first versions of the script where a whole lot more of La Banda dies, i bet.

What do you think was the original intention with the Berlermo story? tbh i don't think it changed that much, the 'love poem' part was probably always there, only Andrés' feelings were added as an extra during filming. they improvised something during the kiss scene, probably his confession and kissing back. but yeah, pina deserves the praise, one of the things he did 100% right with Part2.
I think it was pretty much the exact same of what we got, just a little less requited. I think the confession might have been written, but probably not the kiss against the wall. Which in turn affected the speech from season 5 too. Because honestly speaking, even without the entirety of the kiss scene, if it wasn't in the show at all and then you watch the speech scene with the machine and it goes "Please don't let it be a mistake, don't let it be an illusion' then the machine works, what would you think that was supposed to convey? Personally, I would have taken it that the love was requited, that what was between them wasn't an illusion of Martín's. So yes, Pedro and Rodrigo definitely affected the move of things. But Alex Pina completely leaned on it, added to it, wrote more for it himself. So yup. He does!

not to post negativity again but i remember very little to no details about season 5 other than very obvious plot points and honestly i think that’s very reflective of the season’s quality.

HII could you maybe write something for Berlin like HCs being in a relationship with him, maybe with connections to the new show or sm.
(Im actually so glad I found someone who writes for this fandom bc there’s literally no one nearly 😭)
Berlin - Relationship headcanons
Thank you for the request!! <3 I'm happy to see more LCDP fans here omg 😭 Hope ya like it! :)
Smut version can be found here
Pairing: Berlin/Andrés de Fonollosa x gn!reader Genre: Fluff, headcanons Warning(s): Spoilers for LCDP. Cuss words, Berlin being a bit possessive, reader uses they/them pronouns Words: 1145 Summary: Being in a relationship with Berlin would include… English is not my first language - lmk if there's any spelling mistakes so I can improve my writing! <3
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Being in a relationship with this man would be a roller-coaster of emotions…
But you can’t really complain!
People see him as “cold and self-centered”, which is partially true.
BUT when he’s in love, it’s like his whole personality changes.
You are his whole world, and he will do everything to put his ego aside, and show you just how loving he can be.
And boy, he succeeds…
When he first saw you, it was love at first sight, or at least for him.
He would find out everything about you, what you like to eat, what hobbies you have, and the places you like to be at.
He would just wait for you to approach him first, but it wasn’t that easy…
After a while, he stopped being stubborn and started talking to you.
Berlin would make sure you fall for him, and that would be his biggest goal.
He would take you on extraordinary dates and totally spoil you.
He prefers calm private dates, but wouldn’t mind going to a bar/nightclub if you like that.
Despite his sophisticated looks, he knows how to party. (That one scene in Berlin when he’s at the punk club LMAOO)
Seeing you hyped up makes him happy, so how can he not love partying with you?
The two of you having lazy mornings together. Berlin is a night owl, and getting him out of bed in the morning is a challenge.
He’ll also never let you leave bed. - “Just 5 more minutes, love! - “Are you gonna leave me, all cold and lonely in bed, huh?”
Berlin wouldn’t give up his flirting until you fall in love with him.
Once that happens - he won’t shut up about you
Like, EVER.
He would drive Sergio and his other friends insane with how much he talks about you, telling them a bit too much about his love life…
Berlin is the cheesiest guy you’ll ever meet, tbh.
And he takes that as a compliment.
He would write you love letters, send good-morning AND goodnight messages to you, and bring you flowers every now and then.
Berlin is a man with many talents, and he loves impressing you, especially with his singing
Cheesy as it sounds, he even sings you serenades to express his love and devotion.
You’d have to put up with his weird and impulsive ideas.
Whether it’s planning a spontaneous trip, a heist, etc…
He needs someone to tell him to calm the hell down lol
As seen in the show, Berlin is very passionate and a bit unpredictable.
Being in a relationship is no exception.
Everyday with him is like an adventure, and he knows how to spice things up to not end up like a “boring couple”.
His goal would be making sure the honeymoon phase never ends.
He would make sure to tell you how amazing and good-looking you are EVERYDAY.
He is not afraid to argue with you, but would rather admit he is “wrong” rather than have you be mad at him for too long.
He’s not always good at reading your emotions and knows what you’re feeling, but tries to.
It breaks his heart to see you upset, and will try to make you feel better.
He can be rather possessive too. If someone stares at you for a bit too long, or flirt with you, he’s not afraid to show them that “you are his”.
He’s extra protective of you when you are around his friends. He wants to make sure you feel safe, and also that no one tries hitting on you…
Especially if you are shy, he’d be very close to you, smile at you when you talk and laugh extra loud if you say something funny.
He makes sure your friends like him.
He wants to make a good impression on everyone, but especially when it is your friends and family.
Big fan of PDA. He’s a man that is not afraid to kiss you in public, and he practically never lets go of your hand when you’re outdoors together.
When cuddling, he prefers being the big spoon.
One of Berlin’s love languages is touch.
He enjoys having his hand on your thigh, giving your shoulders soft massages, and forehead kisses. He’s the type of guy to kiss your hands, too.
If you have long hair, he tends to fidget with it, running his fingers through it, stroking it away from your face and even braiding it.
Berlin definitely treats you like a god/goddess.
But the relationship would also be challenging from time to time.
Berlin being a criminal does bother you.
Your fear is for him to get caught and end up in jail.
He’d have to reassure you a lot that he won’t get caught, promising you that he will be fine.
But don’t worry, he makes sure to keep that promise.
His pet names for you: (My) love, honey, babe…
His phone is full with pictures of you and you’re definitely both his home- and lock-screen.
He has lots of money, and spends them on you, whether you like it or not.
Berlin enjoys luxury and wants to give you a luxurious life.
His dream is to travel and see the world with you by his side.
If you don’t speak Spanish, he would offer to teach it to you.
He is very overprotective and makes sure you keep a distance from his work.
But he does enjoy impressing you with dramatic stories about his heists.
During his most difficult and dangerous heists, he will think of you and keep on fighting so he can come back home to you.
When he’s away for a longer time, Berlin makes sure to text and call you with regular updates. But in all honesty, he just misses your voice.
Like I said earlier, he is an unpredictable man, and if someone is mean to you, yikes… - “Just drop it, Andrés!” “No, babe… I’ll have a ‘chat’ with them…”
Remember the throwback scene of Berlin and the man that made fun of his bow tie?
Let’s just say, whoever insulted you will return to you and apologize, trembling and crying from pain and fright.
…Berlin would just return to you with a smug smile, pretending like nothing happened…
And act all clueless when you confront him about it.
With you, Berlin is soft and passionate, but others view him as your “scary boyfriend”, a title he accepts with pride.
To summarize… Despite Berlin's cold exterior, he is the complete opposite with you. He has so much love to give, and isn’t scared to do so. He will make sure to worship you and make sure you feel loved. All he wants is to spend his time with you, and give you the passion, excitement and devotion you deserve. Being together with him is definitely not boring.
I have such hate-love relationship to Berlin bruh 😭 Andrés in Berlin >>>>>>> LCDP

@marqenobi thank you for asking my thoughts on Berlin show.
First of all, first time they mentioned the spin off I was very excited. I love LCDP so much, even some of the things I disagree in later seasons, season 4 & 5. Still, my god. It was authentic, thrilling, made you doubt that this teams could ever get away. Both heists were very AMAZING, one of a kind. The show that never been created like that.
The mint heist still and will always be my Fav. But the Gold heist, it was Grand. The mint heist was like Classic Noir Suspense, thrilling and dramatic, holding my breath most of the time. The gold heist was loud, a touch of war, a test for the humanity, shocking, and didn't give us the audience mercy by UNAFRAID to kill our fav characters 😢 both heists were showing us a very thin line between bad guys and good guys. Okay i'll stop ranting now before it gets too long lol.
Now comes the Spin off. Berlin fans favorite.
We expected the background stories of this maniac, his sly and intelligence ways to do the robberies. Why he never get caught. (This one I believe it had something to do with Sergio). And other things that We're so excited to found out about this man. I don't think fans care whether he turns out to be worse than we want him to, or not as evil as the fans thought he might. Fans would love any kind of representation on his arc. And this is why I love fan base, they can cook whatever there is in canon and made their own interpretation on him. It'd be fun. But not the overly obsessed in love with a stranger middle aged man.
When I watch the spin off. I finished them in one day lol. I'm sure some of us did somehow. We've been waiting. If I can be honest,
Berlin is the worst character on his own show. First, the fashion. That man cares about his look, his fashion is quite bad there. I'm sorry. The turtle neck is too much.
Second, Andres in LCDP season 1&2 were a fucking professional who would kill a witness, Advicing sergio to kill Angel in the hospital to cut a loose end, and other rational smart decisions in regard for his teammates, which some of them I agreed with him. That's why He's known to be a ruthless professional with a brain. That's what makes him worth to be the Captain that you can actually depended on.
Andres in the Spin off looks like a cartoonic character chasing a woman he fell in love with in 5 seconds, and for those who haven't watched, that's what He'll be doing until the end of the show. He forgot about Everything and it makes me so mad, because he doesn't care about his teammates, doesn't give a shit about the plan, he looks more of a dumbass than Arturo. A professional thief would never did that, especially if He's the one who leads the team.
The kind of love story is almost similar to Sergio and Raquel. The difference is Sergio really were a fucking cruel professional. Sergio still rational even when he knows He's falling for her. But his priority is the plan, the teammates, to get them out safely. He's willing to leave Raquel and even thinking of killing her mother (lol), ruin Raquel's career and possibly life, ALL PART OF THE PLAN. it wasn't just a sudden choice, it was all planned down to the last details, and that is the cruelest most ruthless Romance and revenge to the cops, that one could possibly think or interpret what Sergio experience weren't love but infatuation and adrenaline in the midst of heist. I'd like to talk about this some other time, it's gonna pissed off some Serquel fans. But We're not here for that.
Whereas Andres, the cold hearted Sociopath, he chased down Camille into the elevator and kissed her (cringe), singing Felicita with Damian with no care while his team being chased down by the cops (ok). Taking care of camille's best friend's kid (wtf), going to see Camille's husband in Jail and offer him help, because he is so in love with her, and tried to freed him. what is the point of helping her husband? What does he get from it?! I mean... They want to make him look like the Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man lol.
They also tried so hard to make him look like a psychopath but failed, the worst trials. First he threatened that guy in the opening scene, that was quite good actually, probably the best scene in the show, but it went down hill from there. Second, looking at the fork in the restaurant because he's angry lol, Alex Pina. You don't have to do that. That was very unnecessary. Andres killing a guy in the restaurant with a fork is done. And no need to remake that scene. And then, he threatened the Lawyer, I just realized that Andres is all talking, and talking, trying to scare people with his threats. Nothing much.
Third, the heist in the spin off. The advertisement of Berlin Spin off is that the Red Gem that They're gonna steal. The mystery heist we've been waiting for. And in the spin off, I don't know when did the heist ended. Just like that. What did they steal anyway? Only jewels. There weren't any red gem. How much? And what about the tunnel they made under the chapel? Did they just leave it like that? There are too many loose ends and of course the heist, the plan weren't great. I can say it was a very bad bad robbery, and an easy one too. No wonder sergio and martin weren't there. No need for the masterminds help.
The members of the crew were just like bad copies of the original. Nobody can change my mind on this. Tried so hard to bring back the old vibe gang, doing Everything wrong in this show and they have the audacity to promote it by saying "We're making a thing better than the LCDP". At least have some respect with the former show. The former actors also work hard to achieve a great show together.
Damian and his problem with his wife, Cameron and her past which Nobody cares, Roi (rafael 0.2) that's why andres asked him to wear glasses. Perhaps it reminds him of his son. But how does he know how his son looks like when he never ever seen him? (Season 5 plot), Bruce (i've got no problem with bruce, the dude didn't try too much, He's cool), kaila (Surprisingly I like keila more than the rest. She's not Trying to be somebody in the past, she's more of a fresh character than Berlin ever could).
Now Alicia and Raquel. They were meh. Their dialogue were bad. The chances of these two could thrive in Berlin if they have their own story. Instead of forcing their friendship on our faces. I was excited about their roles. But it turns a bit forced??? Idk if it's just me I guess.
The whole story line could work if they focus more about the robbery. And see where the characters develop from there. I thought perhaps if they gonna ruin Berlin character at least perhaps with a great heist plot could save this spin off. But it turned out to be a bad heist nobody even really care about.
Still there are some moments where berlin were tolerable and ofc great on some scenes. I have HUGE respect on Pedro for his acting skill but even a great acting skill couldn't save a bad plot and direction. The potential were there, but they are TOO focus on the Nostalgic that they ruined the chances to bring out the origin stories for Berlin.
The fans could do better tbh. Making gifts like @marqenobi did, or @pedroalonso did with their arts. And perhaps creating a better story lines like @roccinan fics for examples lol. About Berlermo and Hermanos. And others I too enjoyed very much. Since I guess we do it out of love for the characters themselves and not for anything else.
Strange that I still hope for more seasons you know why? Because I love the character. And yearn to see more of them. I was left disappointed. But what can I do but cringe all the way through watching berlin spin off.
Pedro you did great. But i'm sorry. Berlin spin off were very bad. And that's my honest opinion. If you have your own thought on this @marqenobi please don't hesitate to share yours too. Even if you disagree with me, I'd be delighted to hear another opinions. That's what i've been doing here on blogs reading different thoughts n opinions about things. Xoxoxo happy new year.

Twenty Questions for Fic Writers
I was tagged in this by the lovely @once-in-a-blue-moon-rising. Thank you! 😊 It's nice to revisit my fics, it's been a while.
1. How many works do you have on AO3?
23
2. What's your total Ao3 word count?
1,014,041 words. Yikes 😂
3. What fandoms do you write for?
Most of my works are in the La Casa de Papél fandom. Before that, I was in the Miss Fisher's Murder Mysteries fandom. I also have a handful of ficlets in the fandom for the Stormlight Archive books by Brandon Sanderson.
4. What are your top 5 fics by kudos?
My top 5 fics by kudos are all in the LCDP fandom, and they're all +100k words.
Number one is 'The White Queen', a Regency romance AU. It's got almost double the amount of kudos than the second-highest fic.
'Personal Relationships', a canon-compliant AU.
'Back to Galicia', a movie star second chance AU.
'Safe House', a witness protection program AU.
'Tell Me What You Like', a collection of canon 'fill the gap' smutty scenes.
5. Do you respond to comments?
I used to 😅 I used to love spending a lot of time writing elaborate and personal responses to comments, and I in fact met several of my best fandom friends through comment conversations! However, over time I just simply didn't have the energy for it anymore. There are still a bunch of super lovely comments on the last chapter of my last fic that I really should have responded to, but I simply don't have the mental space. I do feel bad about that 🙈
6. What is the fic you wrote with the angstiest ending?
I don't write angsty endings. I love angst in the main fic, but I'm committed to HEAs :)
7. What's the fic you wrote with the happiest ending?
Probably 'The White Queen', where I spent about 50k words describing just how happy they were 😂
8. Do you get hate on fics?
I've had a few nasty comments, but they're absolutely nothing compared to the vast sea of incredibly kind, lovely, and supportive comments I've gotten. I've been very lucky.
9. Do you write smut? If so, what kind?
My earlier work is almost entirely smut 😂 It's funny to see my later fics evolving into containing more and more plot, and less and less smut. I wonder how my readers felt about that 😂 The smut is explicit, but I've always tried to keep it tasteful.
10. Do you write crossovers? What's the craziest one you've written?
I haven't written any crossovers yet. I'm usually obsessed with only one piece of media at a time :)
11. Have you ever had a fic stolen?
Yes -- I discovered a few years ago that one of my LCDP fics had been stolen and put on Amazon for money! It took ages to explain things to Amazon (because I didn't own the characters) and to get it taken down. It was a very icky feeling.
12. Have you ever had a fic translated?
Yes, I've had several requests from people who wanted to translate my fics into Russian :)
13. Have you ever co-written a fic before?
No, and I don't think I could. I love to brainstorm about plot with a friend or beta reader, but I couldn't actually share the writing process. I'm too much of a control freak 😅
14. What's your all-time favourite ship?
If we're only looking at the first 2 seasons of LCDP, then Serquel. However, the subsequent seasons partially ruined them for me, so maybe I'd better choose Phryne and Jack from Miss Fisher's Murder Mysteries.
15. What's a WIP you want to finish but doubt you ever will?
My only unfinished fic on AO3 is 'Tell Me What You Love' in the LCDP fandom, but that's more a series of vignettes that I kept open in case I wanted to add more. It wasn't really meant to have an ending. That said, I don't think I'll ever add to it anymore.
16. What are your writing strengths?
Dialogue, I think. I also think in general I'm a clear writer who gets to the point without too many flourishes or detours.
17. What are your writing weaknesses?
For a long time, I felt like I couldn't come up with any kind of original plot, but I think I got better at that over time. I'm still pretty bad at descriptions, though. I just want to get to the action and dialogue, and I forget that my readers are not in my head and can't see the characters or surroundings like I do :D
18. Thoughts on writing dialogue in another language in fic?
I wouldn't include more than a few words of phrases sprinkled through the dialogue.
19. First fandom you wrote for?
Miss Fisher's Murder Mysteries. I was all of 26 when I first discovered fanfiction!
20. Favourite fic you've written?
That's such a tough choice 😅😅 If I absolutely have to choose, then I think 'The White Queen'. I was really just writing the exact fic that I wanted to read myself with that one. I had so much fun with it, I was so inspired that the chapters literally flowed out without any effort, and I got the most amazing response to it from the fandom. It will always be extra special to me 😊
I'm not tagging anyone in particular, but if you see this and want to do it, consider yourself tagged! :)

Twenty Questions for Fic Writers
Tagged in this by the lovely and wonderful @themirokai. It's taken me a while to get to it, but here we are today.
1. How many works do you have on AO3?
12
2. What's your total Ao3 word count?
293,965 - respectable, I think. An average of 24,497 words per work.
3. What fandoms do you write for?
Sherlock, Good Omens, James Bond, La Casa de Papel/Money Heist. I'm by far the most prolific for Sherlock. Would like to do some more LCDP one day, maybe even in Spanish. And I feel some Bridgerton (specifically Kanthony) might be inevitable one day.
4. What are your top 5 fics by kudos?
When It Rains - aka my completed Mystrade epic, 98,000+ words.
A Christmas Thief - my LCDP Raquel/Sergio advent calendar, based on the Netflix A Christmas Prince film. It is SILLY (affectionate). (41,000+ words)
Major Revisions - an enemies-to-lovers, academia AU for my eternal faves (it's Mystrade). Lots of silly Christmassy tropes here too. (27,000+ words)
A Series of Unfortunate Interruptions - Good Omens this time, wherein our favourite angel/demon duo cannot find a single moment alone to do some confessing and/or kissing. (8000+ words)
Plan Normandy - my LCDP fix-it, where the gang escape the Bank of Spain together, and have to decide what it is they're going to do next. (19,000+ words)
Note: all these fics are complete!!
5. Do you respond to comments?
I do! I don't always get to them immediately, particularly when real life is busy, but I will get back to everyone, at some point. And I always read them, and appreciate them.
6. What is the fic you wrote with the angstiest ending?
By an absolute country mile, it's Ashes, from my old FF.net account. Because that site doesn't have AO3's comprehensive tagging, let me add the warnings here: major character death, graphic drug use.
7. What's the fic you wrote with the happiest ending?
I think A Christmas Thief/Major Revisions/Plan Normandy are all pretty soppy by the end. But most of my recent fics have happy endings, even if I enjoy the anguish in the middle.
8. Do you get hate on fics?
I haven't. I got one kind of negative comment in a bookmark, but I understand that wasn't meant for me and, after I'd got over the initial upset, I realised they weren't actually wrong anyway.
9. Do you write smut? If so, what kind?
Occasionally, as part of longer stories. It's usually not particularly graphic - the longest and most detailed is Chapter 5 of Fire Dancing with Snow, if you want to get an idea.
10. Do you write crossovers? What's the craziest one you've written?
Not yet! Maybe one day.
11. Have you ever had a fic stolen?
I hope not!
12. Have you ever had a fic translated?
I haven't, I don't think.
13. Have you ever co-written a fic before?
Also no: I think I could, if we agreed the overall plot together and then wrote sections solo (and gave feedback). But I couldn't sit down with someone and discuss a fic line by line.
14. What's your all-time favourite ship?
It had to be Mystrade. I'm not always fixated on them, the fixation ebbs and flows, but they are the ship that has endured longest in my mind.
15. What's a WIP you want to finish but doubt you ever will?
I don't think there's a fic I want to finish that I doubt I will. There's at least one I don't want to finish because I dislike it (In My Blood I Felt Bubbles Burst, sorry), but if I want to finish it, then I'll finish it (unless I change my mind). It might just take me a long time.
16. What are your writing strengths?
I like metaphors, and kind of poetic description (particularly of feelings). I do, of course, need to be careful not to overdo it, but I think I often do hit the right note, and am able to describe complex feelings in quite original ways.
17. What are your writing weaknesses?
Over-writing, I think. I'm very wordy, and I can get stuck in minutae that not a single person (including me) cares about. I'm getting better at recognising when it's happening, but it's still definitely a weakness. Plus, planning out a bit elaborate plot, but then leaving it too long between chapters so I have to re-read absolutely everything to avoid plot holes.
18. Thoughts on writing dialogue in another language in fic?
I wouldn't write dialogue in another language in my English fics, unless I had help from a native speaker, as otherwise the level would be too far below my English level. But I've written a few bits and pieces in Spanish, and I'd like to continue improving my proficiency there.
19. First fandom you wrote for?
Doctor Who! Picture this: I am 13, and I am heartbroken after Doomsday. I decide I'm going to fix it.
20. Favourite fic you've written?
I'm going to go When It Rains, I think. This might be because it's got a lot of positive attention and that contributes to my warm feelings about it, but I do re-read parts of it sometimes, and it very definitely falls into the 'this is exactly what I want to read' camp, which I think is important in your own fics.
I hope you enjoyed this! And, either way, I am going to tag a few people, just in case you'd like to do this. No pressure of course, it is a little time-consuming: @the-toad-in-your-piano, @ewebie, @evendale, @brigwife, @feeisamarshmallow... and you, dear reader, if you so wish. Please tag me even if I've not tagged you, I'd love to read your answers!

The thing is lcdp s1 and 2 has a much more cohesive storyline but s3-5 has palermo….

Camille looks like Tatiana. And Alicia looks like Tatiana too. I like Keila. But do they really have to cut her hair like Tokyo? They're many different hairstyles out there. And why do you think Andres forced Roi to wear glasses? It's so funny to me. Either that reminds him of His hermanito or Rafael? But the way Berlin was so proud of Roi when Roi sort of betrayed him was like the scene in LcDp season 5 when berlin found out his wife cheated on his son.
Camille looks so much like Tatiana it has to be on purpose asdasdf. I usually don't think Alicia looks like Tatiana, but she kind of did for some reason in the spinoff. Fanservice for the "Tatiana is Alicia!" crowd, the true backbones of lcdp fandom.
To be fair, I doubt Tokyo's haircut was on their minds when they styled the women's air. Most likely, they just thought that looked generically hot.
As for Roi, LOL you know me anon, I totally think Andres made Roi wear glasses because he thinks his hermanito is the most perfect little boy to ever exist and if Roi wears glasses, then some of hermanito's perfection will rub off on him. Very touching if we go by andres logic XD
Agree with that last observation too. It felt like a lighter version of his reaction to the Rafael/Tatiana betrayal. I like how part 1/2 Berlin is a guy who loses his shit everytime someone hints at disobeying him, but Pina forgot that about in the flashbacks, so every time someone stabs him in the back in the past, he welcomes them with open arms and forgives them on the spot. A teammate could stab him in the gut, and he'd go "you've demonstrated strong willpower and laughed in the face of blood, I'm so proud of you!"

do u think berlin and palermo know each other already in the spinoff timeline?
Oof nonnie, I don't think even Pina knows how to answer that!
Let's see what the official LCdP timeline says, hmmmm

I like to think that yes, they do know each. I remember making a post about the Berlermo timeline a while back (one that I can't find because Tumblr's search function is trash), but I remember coming to the conclusion that they met around 2004, when Andrés' police rep sheet starts.
Tumblr media
I know that's a futile exercise because Pina plays fast and loose with the timeline, and at the launch party for Berlin last year, Pedro answered fan questions and when asked about "when" the spinoff would take place, he answered along the lines of "it takes place in a nebulous time/time outside time/doesn't matter".
So "official" answer - we don't know and I don't think we're even supposed to think about it.
My personal answer -
Based on some iPod shuffle that Keila wears in one scene we know the series takes place after 2010-2012, there's a scene (when Berlin goes into that bar to watch Camille play) where a cover of Demons by Imagine Dragons plays, and that was out in 2013.
If we are to believe Nairobi didn't pull the ten years number (for Martin being in love with Andres) out of her fine ass thin air, seeing how Berlin died in 2016-- the show could very well take place AFTER the chapel scene? Which makes no sense, because the chapel was where he married wife no 5.
Anyway, I gave it too much thought - yes, I like to think they know each other at that point, and Martin could very well be doing his own heist someplace else or is too busy sampling public saunas across Europe.
OR maybe they don't know each other yet, timelines are for suckers and season 2 gives us a Berlermo meet-cute in the Buenos Aires cafe (Martin pickpockets Andres and is intrigued when he figures out that none of the IDs or credit cards in his wallet have the same name)

Oh yes, if they don't bring something really outstanding new idea to the show, just heists and love, it will definitely flop - if it's just the copenhagen heist with slight modifications (with palermo, different wife, kid) the general audiance will get bored quickly and half the fandom (mostly serquels) already hate the idea if the spin off.
Precisely. With this formula, I genuinely don't see a way of this working out for them. Like for starters, the Copenhagen scenes in season 5 were the most widely disliked by the most factions in the audience. Ironically enough, they were disliked most by the Berlín male fanbase who unanimously agreed that the show was milking the character, they love Berlin but they have had enough, and that they just want to return to the main heist. A show being entirely about that is a flop in the making.
What he describes is pretty much what Netflix's Lupin is, with slight differences. And the things about Lupin is 1) Netflix already has it 2) It's successful enough 3) it's not so successful and loved that producers would want ten more replicas of it.
There are tons of light/comedic media about thieves going around thieveing. And as an original idea, it might have worked. But as a spin-off? As a prequel? It won't.
Especially that with Pina's luck, Berlin comes in days where prequels are having their golden age. There would be high standards now. Better Call Saul just finished and it redefined everyone's idea of what a perfect prequel should be like. House of the Dragon and Rings of Fire are both showing and getting a shit-ton of attention, and at least regarding the former, having a glorious moment of success. Netflix is planning around three other major prequels including one for Vikings and one for The Witcher. Berlín will come with heavy competition and "a prequel can be way better than this. This is no excuse."
And honestly speaking, if you're not revealing something new and exciting and original, why make it? Berlin isn't exactly a mystery character anymore. We know all the major events of his life. Why are you going for a feel-good show taking THE one character in the original show that definitely has the darkest life/nature?
Like let's be honest, Berlín doesn't have a good head start. Lcdp's general audience loudest reaction to it was "isn't it enough? Shouldn't they stop?" So while yeah, they might watch, they are already wary. The one chance the show has of succeeding is to Really add something new and surprise people. Definitely by not taking the most disliked element from the final season and making it a whole show on its own.
No one wants to see "the golden age" of the character because we've already seen his biggest heist in operation and his planning for the biggest heist of all characters' lives. The Vikings Heist was nothing compared to them in excitement and intrigue, nor in pure entertainment. I highly doubt anyone watching the show had any care for how that heist went on its own. It's the sort of the heist that would be a background event in a fanfic. Definitely not something someone would get into a whole new show to solely watch. The love and heartbreak element is equally bad because 1) we've seen his most dramatic divorce and the one that had the most effect on him 2) we already know that all those marriages didn't mean as much to him as his relationship with his bestfriend per his own confession. So knowing this, why would we get invested in the drama of the show?
There are genuinely some good ways to go about making this show. Showing the gradual development of a character from a poor boy who's the son of a fatally ill woman and a dead bank robber to one of the most infamous, successful, and intelligent robbers Europe ever had IS interesting.
Even doing a half-and-half where Berlin keeps its parent show's trademark flashbacks nature of his Golden Years side by side by his clumsy youthful making into a criminal would also be a perfect choice. But watching little fun robberies for a whole show knowing his biggest ones and how they went? Really not very interesting lmfao.
And that might be for the already existent audience for lcdp, who again, are pretty wary and not very excited for the show. But I don't see how that would attract a whole new audience on its own either. And as you mention, for the fandom part in the audiences, Serquel, who make the largest and loudest faction, already mostly hate it.
So the general audience of lcdp will probably not stick around, the fandom part already hate it, very little luck in attracting new audience, and lesser luck of appealing to the macho male fanbase that idiolized him mostly for his macho psychopathy AND as the anti-hero within a group that they also loved, that won't in this show. This might sound pessimistic but it's genuinely what I think how it'll turn out if the show ends up being a longer version of the Copenhagen flashbacks.
Hopefully though this is not the case and in their coming 33 rewritings, there will be something more interesting than that.
