Seeing Def Leppard and Motley Crue at the Stadium Tour in Bramall Lane, Sheffield - 22/05/2023✨

Ok I’ll try and keep this as brief as possible, but I also want to include as many fun details as possible! also how has it been eXACTLY ONE WEEK since this happened aAAAH??? (from when I'm posting this at least)

Before the Show

So we started queuing at 8:30am, and we weren’t even the first people there! There was a group who had been queuing since 4am!

We immediately clicked with this group and we ended up becoming great friends, and they made the experience much more enjoyable!

I also had a few issues with my ticket, as I needed to print it but never got the chance (story for another day)  so I had to go down to the ticket office like three times😅

Just before we went in the nerves suddenly hit me: I HAD to get my spot that I’d queued 7 hours for.

As soon as I was let in I got the biggest adrenaline rush of my entire life, and although the staff were telling me not to run, I ran, and they didn’t stop me.

And I got a spot at the barrier with my friends! 

it was at this point that reality started to set in...

after 7 months of waiting for this very moment I was HERE 

Vivas came on after about 45 mins and they were AMAZING???

I was just looking at Tyler the entire time tbh bc he looks sO MUCH LIKE SAV ITS AAAAAA

also the lead singer was absolutely losing his mind at how big of a gig this was for them and I felt so happy! His joy was honestly infectious and I think they’re gonna do great things!

Mötley Crüe

After Vivas it was about a 30 min wait until Crüe, and every time we thought they had finished setting up the stage they added one more thing lmao

also Ryan was hanging around in the photo pit and he took our photo AWWW

I saw him the next day and he actually sent it to me, so now I have the very photo that Ryan Sebastyan himself took!

anyways the stage set up for Crue was just a little over the top imo perhaps to compensate whaaaat

they also had this extremely long opera(?) intro which just went on for way too long

and then they had that fuckin aLARM THING WHICH WAS SO LOUD

when the guys eventually did come on I will admit it was incredibly surreal... like tHAT is Nikki Sixx RIGHT IN FRONT OF ME??

Nikki was wearing the coolest jacket at first I want 23 of my own

Vince was uuuh Vince

like he wasn't terrible in person but listening back it is... not great

aNYWAY John 5 was actually so cool and fits in with them really well but he’s just not Mick Mars soz John

he also did this thing where he just drooled over the side of the podium?? like bro that was just so unnecessary JHGFGJK

also the music was just sO LOUD I found it hard to tell which some was which at first aND I WAS WEARING HEARING PROTECTION

at one point Nikki threw a bottle of Fiji Water and it landed right behind the security guard in front of me... I didn't want it😂

about midway through the set Nikki addressed the crowd and actually brought a kid up on stage and took a selfie with him which I thought was really cool!

Aaaand then Tommy addressed the crowd and asked women to show their tits🙃 and of course some did. oh Tommy 

then they played Home Sweet Home and let me tell you Tommy can sHRED on a piano

tbh the strippers (yes for those that dont know they have *female dancers* dancing on stage to some of the songs) were probably putting in the most effort out of anyone up there 

I think my favourite part was when they did the medley of covers, so Smokin’ in the Boy’s Room, Blitzkrieg Bop and Anarchy in the UK

they ended with Kickstart my Heart which was a lot of fun!

Def Leppard

it is TIMEEEE

there wasn't a long wait at all until leppard bc I think the show was a little behind schedule

but then when the countdown came on the screen it was the longest 6 mins of my life

and then Joe’s cover of Heroes came on and AAAAAAAH

THEN IT WAS THE INTRO TO TAKE WHAT YOU WANT

AAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHH

THERE THEY ARE DOING WHAT THEY DO BEST

it wasn't so much of a shock seeing them in person as I had seen them at the signing two days ago, BUT STILLL THATS THEMMMM

And Joe was wearing this soon to be ICONIC Union Jack blazer

Sav was wearing a polka-dot gradient suit (you know the one)

Phil and Viv were wearing THEE most gorgeous suits

Tho I'm kinda disappointed that Phil wasn't shirtless😪(jk)

And Rick in his sparkly tie dye shirt which I another thing I want 245 of

honestly the rest was a bit of a blur but in a good way!

I started losing my mind whenever they would come out onto the catwalk bc tHEY WERE SO CLOSE AND LOOKED ABSOLUTELY BEAUTIFUL

aLSO they're recording the performance for a DVD (I think) so hopefully we will be able to watch back the pro shot version at some point!

also I hope I'm in it bc at one point they were in the photo pit pointing a camera directly at me BBFJKBFJK

oh also Ross Halfin was there I forgot to mention that LMAO

I think during Armageddon It something happened in the crowd behind me bc the security guards were standing on the barrier basically leaning tf on me as if to get a closer look at what was happening 

so yeah I missed the majority of that song LOL and I never did find out exactly what happened, although I did hear that someone got escorted out 

also just before Love Bites my phone died so I spent the first half of that song faffing about with my portable charger which thankfully charged your phone super fast

they also played Promises which for some reason caught me right off guard? it was so good tho and I didn't realise how hard it went until I heard it live!

and then it was the acoustic section which I was looking forward to the most (tho I honestly think it got cut short bc they only played like two songs and the show was behind schedule) bUT IT WAS STILL ABSOLUTELY BEAUTIFUL

This Guitar is my fave off of DSH and hearing it live was just incredible

I love how you can just hear all their voices so well

aLSO IT WAS DEDICATED TO STEVE😭

Joe also said that Steve’s mum was in the audience and I think everyone in the stadium started to cry

and then it was Joe and Sav’s lil duet in When Love and Hate Collide which was so awwww

I can’t believe I actually got to hear Sav sing irl sOMEONE RESUSCITATE ME

anyways moving on, hearing a stadium sing “ROCKET, YEAHH!” is a religious experience I stg and its just something that cannot be replicated in a video

OMG HEARTBREAK AND SWITCH WENT SO HARD

the power that Phil and Viv held while walking out together onto the catwalk playing mf Switch 625

and then they started playing Hysteria and everyone started crying again

also they did the new alternate ending and if you weren't crying before you were then sorry I dont make the rules

The last song was Photograph ofc and thy put a bunch of photos from the leppard archives onto the screens🥺

they also put a bunch of photos that Ryan took of the crowd and tHE ONE WITH ME AND MY FRIENDS WAS UP THERE AAAAH

and just like that, Kings of the World started to play

I felt like my entire life had been leading up to those 90 mins 

it broke my heart to walk away from the spot I had queued 7+ hours for, but my head was now full of incredible memories

bring on Wembley!

Voiceplay-adjacent Visuals: The Headless Horseman

As IF I, a certfied Geoff Castellucci Stan, wasn't going to talk about any of his solo cover videos! I'm not gonna talk about all of them (though I can be tempted into doing more if there are ones I skipped that you want me to talk about!), maybe only like 45% of them or so, including all four of his Halloween uploads - the first of which is what we're starting off with!

Geoff's cover of The Headless Horseman was uploaded on the 11th of October, 2020, and is actually only Geoff's third song cover uploaded on his channel (after Bare Necessities and Blackbird). The song is from the 1949 Disney film The Adventures of Ichabod and Mr Toad, which is actually two stories in one: the first being about Mr Toad (an animated adaptation of The Wind In The Willows), and the second being about Ichabod (an animated adaptation of The Legend Of Sleepy Hollow, a story which Geoff actually did a full narration of on his channel back in October last year), and the latter is of course the section that this song stems from. But enough background info for the time being; let's get into this!

Neat set design, very spooky! Apparently this was filmed at Geoff's parents' house, and this is what he had to say about it in the description: "I filmed this at my folks house... IS ANYONE ELSE TERRIFIED THAT THEY JUST HAD ALL THIS STUFF LYING AROUND?! I mean... i thought I knew those people. My life is a lie..." 😂😂

(Well I guess having a love for Halloween and spooky stuff is apparently a genetic trait for the Castelluccis! 😁)

(Geoff does evil/creepy laughter in a fair few videos across the two channels - he seems awfully comfortable doing it! 😝)

Geoff had fun with the visual effects for this one, as I shall further display in this post!

There are only 3 frames of motion blur between the two frames here, but it absolutely works. Just enough to make it look deliberate and as if he/his character actually moved from point A to point B super quickly.

(You would know a thing or two about long fangs, wouldn't ya, Geoff? 😉)

Won't post a screencap because I can't get a good one, but the little moment with floating pumpkin face thing is pretty neat (on the line "when he goes a joggin, 'cross the land, holding his noggin in his hand, demons take one look and groan, and hit the road for parts unknown")

(Frankly, a little bit of a mild reaction to three disembodied heads suddenly singing backup for you, but I guess it can't be much weirder than having them there in the first place! 😆)

(Also the Disembodied Geoff Heads having their hair be tied/pulled back made a lot more sense after I watched Golden Hour (which I say a little bit about in the post for that video as well).

Geoff assured people in the description that "no Geoff's had their hair cut for this performance" 😄

(Oh and I know I'm not meant to talk about vocals, but I feel like I'd be doing the video a disservice if I didn't mention the clever detail of how the Geoff Heads only sing in "head voice" for the song!)

Now this was a really cool/creative visual effect. No clue what it's called or how to describe it really, but it further makes him seem like a ghost/phantom/spirit in this video

Pfft, what're you reading there, Geoff? 😂

Is it just me or does Geoff have a thing for making his eyes look different in videos, whether with contacts or post-production effects? 😄

(Quite frankly if there's any video that proves that Geoff's not actually human, it's this one /j 😝)

Amazing, fantastic, always such a fun cover to listen to, we stan forever!

In the movie, the song is sung by the character of Brom Bones, who is voiced by Bing Crosby (who also serves as the narrator for both stories in the movie), but the soundtrack/album version of the song was sung by a dude by the name of Thurl Ravenscroft, whom you might know as the original voice of Tony the Tiger (the Frosted Flakes mascot), as well as the original singer of the song "You're A Mean One, Mr Grinch". Thurl was a fairly notable bass singer back in the day and is one of Geoff's idols/inspirations, and honestly, I think Geoff did the guy proud. In fact I would even say that Geoff is the modern-day equivalent of Thurl Ravenscroft! And I just can't get enough <3

ok the chapter was good but honestly i'm more excited by this story:

in more exciting news i saw my most favorite band ever LIVE last friday!!! (they're called armors and i highly recommend them they are very good and deserve all the love) i got to the concert late so i only got to see the last few songs and their keyboard player had other business to attend to so that makes me very :(( BUT i did get to meet their lead singer and their drummer and!!!! they were so nice!!!!!! and pretty!!!!!!! aaaaaa!!!!!! also they recognized me from always bothering them on social media and told me that seeing my comments was fun and made them laugh so anyway my heart is theirs forever and ever. love that for us

also i managed to squeeze in to one behind the barricade and was jamming my heart out and the lead singer sang into my phone camera and i ascended,, also a very nice lady told me she loved how hyped i was aND THEN APPARENTLY GOT A SETLIST?? i left the front of the crowd too early to get one but she gave it back to armors and told them to give it to me :') (the lead singer himself handed it to me maybe i cried a lil bit idk) nice lady if you're reading this 1) what a fucijgin wild coincidence and 2) i love u and my heart is yours forever and ever. love that for us x2

SO. I like to imagine that Javi got into security work after he stopped working in the DEA. he needed something less high strung, but still in a similar field. Security work was easy enough actually, with a background like his he found jobs easily and worked on temporary contracts as a bodyguard for many famous actors and singers. In his opinion almost every single one he’d met had been a TOTAL dick. He found celebrities to be pompous self-righteous pricks, many of which would use the same drugs he spent his life arresting people for right in front of him after a show or shooting. It boiled his blood to not be able to stop it. But hey, that’s showbiz. 

Now onto our sweet drummer babe. Who is a southern raised sweetheart with the hands of God that pound out music on her drum set every night like it's her one joy in the world. Her name is Gemini, but called Gem by her friends and bandmates. She’s the drummer of a new band riding the high of their newfound popularity that is just about to go on tour around the US. Javi is hired as a preventative measure. Sure they’ll have guards at each concert, but their manager thought itd be good to have one that went along with them from place to place, the entire goddamn time. 

To keep them out of trouble. The manager told Javi as he stepped onto the tour bus with a fake smile. 

Which meant babysitting. 

Ultimately. Gem was the only one Javi got along with. The singer was a pompous prick who thought he could treat Javi more like a goddamn butler than a guard. The bassist, perhaps in an attempt to gain more popularity herself, more vocal parts other than backup, or out of her pathetic schoolgirl crush on him, agreed with every word the smarmy schmuck said. The lead guitarist didn't talk much, when he did, was it was some odd bullshit about being on the “new wave of music” and talking in a way that made Javi think of a cult leader. He chalked it up to the drugs, but did not want to find out if he was right or not. But their lead drummer? Oh, Gemini was a woman with a bite. She didn’t hesitate to call other members out on their bullshit or their flippant disrespect of javi. 

“He’s here to keep us safe, not make your fucking beds. If the crowd gets too rowdy next time, dont be shocked if he leaves your ass behind.”

It didn’t take long for the pair of them to fall into bed together. It started off as just sex for Javi, because he couldn't necessarily just ditch the band and go to a bar in search of a hook up. But at some point, as Gem played with his hair while he talked about his old man and the ranch back home he felt a shift. His heart would skip a beat when his arm curled protectively around her waist while leading her through a crowd, he’d find himself smiling and even tapping his foot on beat during their rehearsals. During concerts, he’s backstage, ready to lead them off when they finish. She'll be sweating, grinning like a mad man and basking in the cheering crowd, every time she showed off her skills on the drum he couldn’t help but feel a thrum of pride in his chest. 

That’s his girl. 

You however, he met differently. 

I'm not sure if you fall into the traditional sense of badass. As in some muscly scared woman kicking ass and taking names. 

You’re a college professor, smart, articulate and intimidating in that sort of sense of walking into a classroom people suddenly feel inadequate before you. Recently divorced, you realize you never acted for you, never had crazy moments of rebellion or wild college nights. So you take a leave from work. You're in such good standing with the university they allowed it. Join some friends who somehow convince you to follow this band on tour for a goddamn year and it's already the first day in and you know this was a horrible idea oh god maybe if you call your boss you can let him know you'll be there for the fall semester and you can cancel the long term substitute they have set up? God what were you thinking? You aren’t wild or spontaneous or-

But then the lights shut off, the crowd begins to scream as the music flows, a steady beat filling your entire chest. The stage lights up and you see the drummer, the most beautiful fucking woman you've ever laid eyes on in your life, with her eyes shut as she plays and her hair swaying as she moves to the beat. 

When Gemini opens her eyes she sees you watching her and feels her heart hammer. You're not looking at the band as a whole. Not screaming for the singer or lifting your top up for the lead guitarist. You're watching her. With this big excited smile and Christ you look so pretty as a friend pulls you close to dance with a laugh, but you're still looking at her. Gemini was used to being glossed over. She wasn't the singer or playing the electric guitar. She was the drummer. But you didn't look at anybody else for the rest of the night. 

At the end of the show, Javi watched as Gemini jumped up from her drum set and curled a hand around his bicep before pointing you out in the crowd. 

“She was watchin’ me the whole show, Javi. I think I finally got myself a fan.” Javi sees you, being tugged and pulled by your friends at the excited chatters of an afterparty. He watched your side profile with admiration that even after dancing to a 90 minute concert you looked almost regal among your friends. You turned, once more catching Gem’s eyes and extending a shaking hand in a self conscious wave. 

He felt her fingers twitch nervously against his arm as she, the lead drummer in a famous band, waved back with an excited smile. 

This will be interesting to watch play out. But he couldn't hide his attraction to you as well, even as he took you by the hand and led you backstage to meet Gem. 

He just really hoped this wouldn't come back to bite him in the ass.

A lot of the lore behind the band is fandom-made, especially around the Nameless Ghouls. 

This blog post here is a REALLY GOOD summation of the band. There’s the Papaganda Videos from when Papa II fronted the band.

Papa III became infamous for his Birds and the Bees talks (they’re all wonderful, Papa III was a flirty, slutty man whom I miss dearly). 

And there’s all of the chapter videos which help introduce Papa Nihil and Cardinal Copia.The Dance Macabre video also gives a look into Ghost- specifically, Sister Imperator and Papa Nihil.

Long story short: Ghost revolves around a fictional Satanic Church/Organization in which there are heads of the church- Papas- who are also the lead singers of the band, which is made up of Nameless Ghouls. The first three Papas were all brothers, and sons of Papa Nihil. On April 30th, 2018, it was revealed that the Papas were all killed, and a new man would take the position of singer for the band, Cardinal Copia. This was revealed via a magazine cover that had Copia holding the severed head of Papa Emeritus III with Sister Imperator standing behind him. 

There’s a lot of really good lore built up in the fandom about the Ghouls, the Church, the Papas, and the fanfictions that I’ve read have all been absolutely amazing?? Especially The Son Who Comes. The fandom is REALLY nice and really inclusive (the nicest bandom I’ve ever been in-), we all just really love the Nameless Ghouls and Cardinal Copia and his obsession with making sure people know where the taint is located.
